Let's discover more oddities and mysteries within the Pro Skater series with part two of the Pro Skater iceberg. THUG 1 PC: www.myabandonware.com/game/to... Tony Hawk's Pro Hater 2: • Tony Hawk's Pro Hater 2 THPS 4 Beta: • THPS4 BETA
Actually if I’m not mistaken, the reason why developers and 3D modellers used to mirror the model below the surface to create the floor reflection effect, is because adding lots of flooring or other surfaces with glossy mapping would have made the rendering super heavy and wasnt efficient for the hardware of the era. But glossy mapping for rendering did exist.
Yes, it is WAY more computationally intensive to try to emulate the effects of a reflection, especially in reference to a moving camera, than to simply put shit upside-down under the water.
I can't believe neither of these videos mentioned the fact that this series exists in the same universe as Neversoft's Spider-Man games, with both him and Wolverine having been playable at some point. I believe Spidey even mentions Tony Hawk in Enter Electro.
Oh yeah, I think I vaguely remember that when I played Enter Electro years ago, but I can't seem to find a reference to it... might have to play it again to refresh myself. Apparently Tony Hawk was also meant to be a playable character in the first Spiderman game as well, but that got scrapped.
Using the What If code will cause Spidey to quip if you land on a THPS billboard. I never played the 2nd one so I'm pretty sure it was in the first game, probably in the Venom chase level.
I remember it was on the first Neversoft Spider-Man game, during the rooftop police chopper chase, before Spidey faces against Rhino. I think if you crawl on the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 billboard, Spidey would say, “Tony Hawk! Hey I skated with that guy!” He says that same quote during his FMV in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2.
It's mentioned that it was released in Australia as well. Why work hard on making a PC port of THUG 1 when it's only going to be released in 2 places in the entire world??
Id like to think the issue comes with how PS2 games handled transparencies. If you look at a lot of PS2 to PC ports of that era, alpha effects are often badooking in the PC versions.
Saw both back to back last night thinking there was no part 2 at first, so that was a nice surprise I was gonna comment on the first one to compliment you, but it's even more applicable here. Presentation is pretty good, but the use of clips for humor and stuff adds to the otherwise mundane iceberg video experience, and the use of THPS sound effects too. And the music choices are _specially_ good Dunno if you've covered Go Go Hypergrind and the likes by now, but I hope you do. Another game I'd recommend looking into if you haven't is Evolution Skateboarding because it even beats late-era THPS in absurdity
Another wonderfully made video! It was worth the six months to finally have a mostly solid conclusion to the mysteries and omitted section from the first and some other things to boot. Only thing that I can remember that didn’t get a definitive answer from the first video was who were the mysterious women, Yeah whispering in NY & the anime chick in East LA.
Great vid mate. Guess i'll add in two things here just incase, one of them being another possible easter egg that is easy to miss: 1. Since im doing THPS2X eventually, and since i already showed that THA8 easter egg you didnt have footage for in the last video on my own vids, i'll see if i can pull off the Roswell boundary break easter egg there for footage of that. 2. in THUG2's Create-A-Park, there's a premade park called "Bubs Oldschool" which not only uses the Mars background, but also has 2 bowls on the corner of the map that coincidentally form an exclamation point. The map name, the background choice and the exclamation point bowls all point to it being a reference to Bubsy 3D... 8 years after Bubsy 3D. There's also Create-A-Park premade maps that reference Daytona and Crash Team Racing in name, alongside the re-occurring maps from throughout the game's Create-A-Park's, like Ji Land and Park of Doom.
Bit late but there's one thing that requires explanation: THUG PC - PC games never were region locked, so except lack of compatibility with modern Windows (PC being most backwards compatible platform, my arse) and hardware, there's nothing stopping you from buying an Aussie physical copy and playing it on your WinXP machine.
in tokyo lelvel of thps3 there the gabs are all japanese dishes. and when you get to the secret area the round neon commercial that drops is on it is written 門mon what means gate in japanese. the kyoto level has a sign of ヨドバシカメラyodobashi camera which is on of the biggest electric stores in japan.
These aren’t anything super groundbreaking but the female create-a-skater has some secrets in a few games. In Pro Skater 3 if you select a tan skin color, the underwear will change from white to pink. Pro Skater 4 has breast physics. In Underground if you angle the camera just right you can see that the character is wearing blue star pasties, and these can be ever so slightly seen with the daisy tube top. In Underground 2 and American Wasteland the female cas has different idle animations, and if you manipulate the camera to see the character’s chest in AW, it’s a black censor bar Edit : Female voice 2 in THUG 2 says “You can’t choose between these and a kid in a body cast” instead of me
I believe that the black cube is supposed to be the secret room in the skinny man’s house that you can enter. When you enter that door that creaks open at the house, you fall into a black abyss then spawn back in.
Oh shit! Thanks for the shoutout! Glad I could help with some of the iceberg entry corrections. Some people say that I have a pretty decent knowledge on the THPS games and their quirks, and suggested that i should make my own iceberg on the series or specific entries in the series. I thought about it for a while, and I'm still interested in it. And as always, another great video! I also didn't expect that ALPHAMastaG shoutout. I used to watch his stuff a lot back then, and he was kinda an inspiration for me to try to find glitches on my own. :3
pro skater is referring to more of a "hey let's see if we can get this celebrity on board with our product" type deal. kinda like shark tank meets endorsement deals in the case of thps, it was a thing game dev studios did but I'm not sure about now tho.
im actually impressed with how much you seem to know about 3d assets, with how offhandedly you mentioned the skinning test amongst other things you talked about. are you an artist too? :o
I believe thps 1 on n64 had moon gravity but i may be mistaken. And i feel like ive made it outside the fence on area 51 back in my youth so ill confirm it was possible somehow, but just gives you the red text if you go too far
Never mind it was the downhill domination menu music that reminded me of this song but fr tho go to the part before the abyss and then sing youth of the nation over that instrumental lol
If only people talked more about the premade park, Montana. Though not as popular as the goat, it too is a running gag in the Tony Hawk series, poking fun at Neversoft's founder Joel Jewitt being from Montana and that the state is flat and empty.
since you mentioned Planet Tony Hawk website, I think it'll be interesting for you to learn that the founder of this site, a guy named Trevor Esposito has written a book covering the entire history of the Tony Hawk franchise called Tony Hawk's Gaming Domination. It is a must-have book for any hardcore TH fan
you were actually not far off when you said “you have to pay for the revert in THPS HD” cuz only in the PC version was that the case. the console versions got the revert via an update
The video that he tried to get out of the map on Roswell people That I watched said that you have to use private carrera and people say that there is a moon gravity cheat In tony hawks pro skater 1 if you need help
I remember playing Canada on thug 2 and where the dude is peeing off the ramp if u lip on him on the edge he screams “I don’t wanna die” and starts falling and then you lip on it again and you fall underneath the level.
The "neuroslaps" are alternatively, and prominently, called "neuroplants." At least, that's what I call them. Other than that, I only knew half the things listed in the video. The only piece of information in the Abyss was the KSPS rough demo of THPS4 because I've played the game on PS2.
