Over the past few weeks of building my campervan I am getting asked a lot of questions about how I'm building the van and what tools I am using. So I've put together this quick video to go through the tools I have used, and where I am using them, to build my campervan.

Just incase you didn't know or have forgotten, the hammer you showed us is called a dead blow hammer and the noise it makes when you shake it is because it is filled with lead shot. Loving the videos and a great build. 👍🏼

Having that workshop is a definite game changer, imagine trying to walk around and fit those interior panels in the recent winds. Or the van rocking in the wind while you’re marking stuff out. Laying out your flooring materials in the dry workshop must have been heaven. Plus now the clocks have gone back, outside lack of light stops play at about 4-30, indoors you can carry on as long as you want. I can see I need one of those work lights in my life!

I treated myself to a multi tool about 12 months ago and simply can’t believe how much I use it and for so many different jobs. Great bit of kit! I’m a real tool guy and this was just about the one thing missing. Really enjoying the build series.

Been building up my tools this year ready for a van build in 2023. Have been umming and arring about a multi tool for sometime and you’ve just convinced me. I’ve also made a note of this video as I think it’ll be one to revisit. It’s been immediately useful thanks. I’m one of those people who are happy with what you share whenever you’re willing to share it. So thanks very much again.

As you have the Ryobi tools, the one thing I still have that is Ryobi is a cordless caulking gun.... brilliant for long runs of sikaflex ... saves your grip and gives a nice smooth bead.

As you already know. Having the use of the unit you're working in will make a huge difference to achieving the end result. I served my time has a vehicle refinisher and its all about the right working conditions. Put the shop radio on, relax and get on with your day. Am enjoying watching you're project and seeing it progress. It's looking really good and thank you for sharing you're experience and knowledge. Regards Toe.

A fun fact about the multitool. Did you know that the multitool was originally a surgical bone saw. Therefore perfect for precision cuts when performing van surgery. 🤓

I remember having a cast removed when I was a kid and they showed me how it wouldn’t cut me if it touched my leg 👍🏻

Having the right tools makes all the difference to getting a good finish. The multi tool is good for so many tasks with a little practice, and deserves good quality blades. I found it so useful cutting out the metal to fit the security door locks on our van. Love the set-up John, thanks for showing us around. 👋

That's a dead blow hammer 😏 it has lead beads inside to stop it bouncing back 👍 Nice selection of tools, people ask me what's the most important thing to know before starting a build and my answer is "knowing someone to borrow tools off of" 😁👍 Nice one 👍

Love it John. Glad to see your not using wood, going to look very professional when finished. Really enjoying these videos & watching you build your van. Can't wait to see the finished product. Well done John

I'd also recommend multiple tape measures.... As they do love hiding themselves and you spend more time looking for them... 😉

I’m enjoying watching these videos because it helps me learn from others experiences, and after watching your vlogs I’ve learnt plenty. There’s nothing worse than starting a job and not having the right things in place to get the job done properly, and this reminds me of all the tools I haven’t got but wish I did have. Over the past 2 yrs I’ve slowly added things to my toolbox collection including many of those essentials that always come in handy. But the overriding factor in all this is the workshop you have and the one thing which makes me really envious. The amount of stuff you can get done and not have to worry about the weather is just great👌👍

Are you planning on having all those tools on board when you travel. That will be quite a bit of extra weight

I love all the British names for these tools…..certainly helped seeing the “instrument” when you called it a different name (I.e. spanner)

Get a good headlamp using a 18650 battery. It is great when wild camping, hiking and working in spaces without light. With a work light one have to move it around and the light is never exactly where one need it to be. I have both but always pick the 1200 lm headlamp (typically running it in 200 or 600 lm mode).

Hari OM Oh,,, that was a teasy-sneaky-peeky!!! I inherited a fair few tools from my late father; full drill/screwdriver kit, a heap of screws. Already had the tape measure, ladder, hammer/s, rulers... I like the look of that rubber mallet - once used for purpose, would make a good maracas... or safety enforcer! YAM xx

All puns about measuring need to be posted 3 times. Love the field of green tools though. Better colour coordination than my tool collection.

A hand full of tools!!! I've not got that many in my house 🙂 It's not a problem, my next door neighbour has just about everything you'd need for a small engineering firm. If pushed, what would you whittle it down to for a tool set to carry around whilst on a long road trip? Keep up the good work.
