Here's a quick video talking about some of the tools I use to maintain my knives, flashlights, multi-tools, and more. Likely no news to the true gear heads, but might be handy for people new to the gear world.
The strop is by Knight Street Strops, / knightstreetstrops .

For lube and corrosion prevention, I use Ballistol (for both my guns and knives). For strop a knife, I just fold my old jeans flat and use that because I don't have a strop.

An outstanding rust inhibitor product is Boeshield T-9. It was developed by the Boeing Corporation to protect metal parts in aircraft. I use it on all my high-carbon steel blades and tools, and have yet to encounter a speck of rust. It has a 30-year track record of hard-use, real-world application, and is widely accepted as the best rust inhibitor on the market.

Wahl hair clipper oil ( actually Chevron Superla White Mineral Oil) is a great knife pivot oil, Come in around 7.5 W and is so much cheaper than the alternatives. It's designed for blades and $10 buys you 118ml..a lifetime supply

frod lube is actually horrible for firearms and can gum them up under certain conditions but its really good for other uses where you want to maintain lubricity on a surface without making them wet and prone to attracting debris

Hey Nick, love your channel and your vids. Very helpful and informative. You are my go too guy from now on when it comes to maintenance of my folding knives. Is mineral oil ok for lubing? I'm ordering some frog lube but have used mineral oil a few times on some cheaper knives to test it. Would appreciate your feedback.

Wiha makes the best tools bar none. ill always pay a bit more for them, but they are affordable for quality. i recommend everyone get at least 1 strop, but 3 would be better. you should never use one strop for different micron size compound, thats why 3 would be idea. for example you could have one with 1micron another with .5micron and another with .25micron paste on it. or whatever you choose, and get that really nice mirror polish on the edge. plus you can use one of the stropes with the slick side, while the ruff size is great for removing the burr.

How does Wiha compare to Channellock or Bondus torx drivers?
@tacticalcenter8658
@tacticalcenter8658 7 лет назад
i would say Wiha are the best, but i havent tried Bondus. Bondus looks decent. The handle on the Channellock will give you better grip than the driver shown in Nicks video. which could be a good thing or a bad thing when you run into locktite, i just dont know how well the steel is with Channellock as i dont use those anymore.

Batz look for patches that have the least amount of lint. Cotton wrap (gauze) isn't tightly woven and doesn't do a good job. The tighter the better. Cotton flannel is often what they are called.

I like to use Aegis Solutions EDCi.
@NickShabazz
@NickShabazz 8 лет назад
I've heard rumors that both AegisEDCi and FrogLube are chemically pretty much the same thing. Both some sort of plant oil, I think Wintergreen? They seem similarly colored, similarly smelled, and similarly marketed, except Aegis is "for knives". I wonder if they're the same company?
@Muffs17
@Muffs17 8 лет назад
+Nick Shabazz Thats very interesting. I've never heard any rumors like that before. The Guy behind Aegis moved to Utah from Florida in the last year or so. I also live in Utah and he came to a local USN get together. He was talking about how he was developing a lubricant in the near future. He seemed like a really cool guy and he also brought a box of EDCi samples for all of us. His website says that the lubricant is currently in the final stages of testing and evaluation. It also says that about a cleaner they are doing.
@NickShabazz
@NickShabazz 8 лет назад
+Vitaminb3 I don't know this for sure, by any means. But visually, the comparison is compelling. Does your Aegis have a sort of minty smell, too?
@Muffs17
@Muffs17 8 лет назад
+Nick Shabazz IDk I can't put my finger on what it smells like. I would say it kind of has a slight coconut smell, but I can't smell mint at all.

Wow, your voice changed at a near linear rate in relation to the number of subscribers you've had.. I'm not trying to be rude, but stay yourself man. RU-vid fame has caused a lot of channels to die because what people initially liked about it ceased to exist. I really hate to see you taking all these free knives. I know it's a major turn off to a lot of people. A high percentage of viewers are gonna tell you exactly what you want to hear because they want you to like them. Therefore throwing any constructive criticism they may have to the wayside. Stay you,your core audience will love you for it. And the 100 people who say how ignorant I am, and tell you all is well, consider the source. Good channel that definitely filled a gap in the world of knife/gear reviews. Your channel will almost certainly survive whether you heed my warnings or not. But in life its about quality not quantity. Cedric and Ada has an awesome outlook as far as "free gear" goes, and why it's a positive thing to not be "that guy". Nothing in life is free. Stay cool man!
