This man is talking 3,5,10k watts and I’m over here stressing if my alternator and battery can handle 700-1000w

Usually an extra battery and upgraded one up front is fine for something
@derekgardin1512
@derekgardin1512 8 месяцев назад
Most stock electrical will be fine under 1500 watts total. I've ran plenty of systems 900-1500 total (400 RMS on doors and 500-1000RMS on sub) and have been fine. Done it on many different vehicles. As long as you have a decent battery and don't play it when the car isn't running you'll be fine. My stereo would kill my battery inside 2 songs if the car was off.
@user-jd3yf3qy7s
@user-jd3yf3qy7s 8 месяцев назад
If you're running a true 1000 watt rms like a JL 1000/1 you will need a small secondary battery and a big 3 won't hurt. You will most likely notice the headlights dimming

Hey man, love your vids and look forward to seeing the boat build especially since we are buying a boat and I’ll be looking at adding some good audio too! My question is about my electrical, I have a 250a alt which is 160a more than stock and my total rms between my two amps is 2k should I have a secondary agm battery ?
@NextLevelCarAudio
@NextLevelCarAudio 3 года назад
If you have A strong under hood battery and big 3 you should be good. Tho most HO alts put out only half power at idle. So if lights dimming with bass you will likely need to raise idle rpm or add a supplemental battery.

@Swen-bk3kz not true. You select wire size based on your load, then your overcurrent device is sized to keep your wiring from overheating. Read the NEC or any number of SAE papers, if you think otherwise.

Great explanation. I'm adding a upgrade to a 04 Chevy Tahoe. 2 Earthquake 12" subs. Running a 6000 watt Rockville. I have 4- 12" pioneers subs SVC 2 ohms with 2- 800 watt kickers running each set of 2 subs. It hits hard with the 4. Sounds clean. Looking to hit a little harder. I've installed upgraded electrical and alternator. Very clean install with what I have. Not sure if I'll need the second battery with adding the Rockville. I'll be running 7200 watts to bass subs an additional 1000 watt pioneer to the mids. Total is 8200 watts. I've been Researching for a few months on the electrical details and Ohms, taking notes before installing the earthquakes. ( Conflicting opinions from what I've read ) seems I may need to add an additional battery and components. Your other videos helped as well 👍much appreciated. Cheers from Florida 🤙

Great advice! You should mention some companies such as rockville tend to use "rms" incorrectly. At least they include the "cea" rating, which is the actual "rms" in this case. And often companies don't include the rms and only the peak power handling hoping that you'll come to the conclusion that it's half of what the peak is. Don't take the bait! If they can't tell you the rms you should try to stay away from them.

I get it. Using the gain to compensate for under power is not a good thing. Leaving the gain alone, or setting properly on a system with a large wattage sub paired with a smaller RMS amp channel.

Wish I would have watched more videos like this when I got started and my "exoert" buddies who weren't out anything and I blew my gear. So I did LOTS of research, made lots of mistakes, and I had a ton of fun and spent lots of money. But if it's something you love, it's worth it. I learned quick about beefing up my wiring, but let me tell upgrading the alternator was a game changer. Do it since and do it right unless you like working on your shit constantly. Running 2 sundown x15v2s in a wall on 2 Def bonce atom 7500 a and jbl 8 channel dsp amplifier (need to upgrade), 260 Amp HO ALT in an 02 4runner. She's starting to sound nasty and I love it

Great videos. Helped me a lot already. I've been wondering if I need to replace my battery for my sub setup but couldn't find any info. Now I did. But at what moment would you advice a battery upgrade? I have a 560 watt amp and a 12v, 45ah 400a car battery. And a 10 inch 400 watt sub.
@NextLevelCarAudio
@NextLevelCarAudio 3 года назад
In all honesty you should be good for the time being unless your battery is old/weak. If your lights dim when the bass hits, that’s a sign you don’t have enough reserve power. Doing a big-3 upgrade will help A lot if you have not done so also. If doing big-3 is not enough, then need good under hood battery, if that is not enough, you need a aux battery in the trunk, if that’s not enough, then time for a new HO alternator. But that is usually the case in the 2000watt+ rms range

Would you recommend installing a LED volt meter directly to the amp or threw the stock fuse panel on your car? I have herd mixed feelings on this. Thanks
@cq4620
@cq4620 2 года назад
I’m more into SQ than SP, and my gear to install is Stereo Integrity 6.5”mkiii’s, 3” Carbon’s in pods on dash, focal tweets, Focal 6.5” in rear doors, I may find room to install a couple 5” Mids in rear for surround, AVIN HU>Audison DSP>80 Amp Gladen 4x120 & 5 (4X90 + 1 350 @4ohm to 2 ohm) w 0AWG to dual fuse 4AWG, w/175 Amp Terminal Fuse. I’ll be spraying some Cascade VBX1 dampener in the doors and possibly the floors, Arches etc. I’m thinking of getting a separate battery to mount in the trunk next to the Main Battery with NSX Isolator/fuse to Batt. So I have 2 Q’s-1. The only speaker I’m not replacing is the Sub, which is an open Dual Coil in the rear deck. I think it’s 2 x 4ohm wired in parallel due to the onboard Amp feeding 2 Ohm speakers throughout the car. As such, if I feed it with 350W@4-2 Ohm, assuming the amp will adjust to the appropriate OHM, will I be overpowering it or doing damage to my 5 Channel Amp? Is there a way to test? 2. How small/big 2nd Battery should I get to power this setup?
@NextLevelCarAudio
@NextLevelCarAudio 2 года назад
It sings like you will be okay 👌 remember, if you are pushing out more power than you need you can always compensate by reducing your gains on your amp. Arc that power level, probably just getting a really good under hood battery with big-3 upgrade would suffice

Awesome video! New to car audio so got a quick question. What wattage amp would you suggest for a 150w 4ohm midrange speaker? Thanks 👍👍
@NextLevelCarAudio
@NextLevelCarAudio 3 года назад
If 150watt rms, and if running a pair, I’d do a 300 watt rms amp and set gain properly for headroom. If running 4 speakers, then a 600rms amp. If the 150 watt is max power, then RMS is typically half that so just cut those numbers in half

Hey man awesome channel, definitely gonna be one of the best car audio channels on YT. Quick question currently running 3 VXF 12s on a skar 3500.1 2ohm duel voice coils and currently purchased another 3500.1 to strap together so I'll be at a 2 ohm minimum at the amps. I have a very healthy power supply and my sub wiring options are 1.3 ohm or 3 ohm. Kills me thinking about losing power if I go the 3 ohm option. Would it be to risky to wire to the 1.3 with box rise?
@NextLevelCarAudio
@NextLevelCarAudio 3 года назад
You should be more than okay... just set gain a little more “conservative” than you would. Typically to not overwork your amps. With rise, you will be well over 2 probably closer to 3. So yeah buddy, that’s what I’d do!

1. How powerful system could be without need to upgrade generator or adding battery? Up to 2500W RMS? Mine BMW e90 330i has 180 AMP one. 2. To fully use 1,2kw RMS subwoofer, how much power should amp have? +50%? 3. If with car running I would listen at full sound (with adjusted gains not to get clipping) and without turning volume down I would turn engine off, would subwoofer get a clipping signal becouse of lower voltage? Great video by the way.
@NextLevelCarAudio
@NextLevelCarAudio 4 года назад
1) 2,500 watts is quite a bit for a purely stock electrical. at just 1,500 watts i'd consider upgrading your main battery to a AGM, doing the big 3 upgrade and getting one of these: www.down4soundshop.com/xs-power-xp750-ck-xp-flex-4-awg-1000-1500w-install-kit-and-xp750-battery-combo-with-511-mount/ at 2,500 watts, you would need even a bigger supplemental battery or a 2nd XP750 wired in parallel. 2) Some subs can take a lot more than RMS ratings, some not so much.... always best to get an amp at RMS and set gains properly. but if you want headroom which is not a bad thing.... then get one a little bigger and set gains conservitavely accordingly. say you have 2 500 watt rms subs.... you will have no issue getting a 1,500 watt rms amp and setting the gains properly. See my other video on setting gains by ear here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6BdKX70rlP4.html 3) You could very well damage your equipment.... you got to understand electricity. When voltage drops, current increases. Current created thermal energy (heat). Electronics do not like heat. so yes.... try not to run your system anywhere below 12.3-12.5 volts.... if your dropping below that.... you need to upgrade your electrical. Hope all this helped. take care and thanks for supporting my channel.

Quick question, when you start adding multiple alternators, do they have to have a matching amperage output? Or is that not super relevant? And how do you generally go about mounting them, arranging your pulleys, and running your supply wires?
@NextLevelCarAudio

If they are running on same electrical system then yes they should match. If isolated like my setup they don’t have to. Check out my dual alternator setup here: answers all your questions ;) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uhMynTkcokU.html

If you under power your subs and it the right base for you and if one day you want to turn up the bang and over heat your amp it will go into protection, on the flip you don't have protection on your woofers so they just fry right??? Overpowering versus under power subs.

I’m wondering if this will be enough or too little. I want to do it right. I’ve seen people run a 3k amp with them same sub on stock everything with no issues. However I would like to stay safe and reliably send power to my amp and sub.

I’m using the seat post to the rear seats because my frame isn’t grounded but somehow the body is. Using a wire wheel to take the paint off with pure copper wire lugs and hit it with some clear coat after to keep it from rusting. Haven’t had any issues

I have a question so for 2 battery do i need to fuse 2 fuses between the battery and then one more fucse to run from battery to amp so a totals of 3 fuse or 6 fuse?

Just found you and found this super informative. Despite the fact I felt somewhat attacked about the buying and realizing you got the wrong thing and returning lmao. I'm about to put 2 kicker L7 q class 12s with a little over 5 cubic feet tuned to 32hz. I have to wait 3 more weeks for the box though 😢

New subscriber. Great videos you know what you’re doing 👌🏼💯 the key point I’d like to make is you’re a great communicator! That’s not always a very common trait. It’s a virtue and separates the good from the elite lol. Okay without further a due I have a question. About compatibility and tune setting for my amp to power 4 Kicker 6x9s (product # 46CSC6934). The amplifier i bought many years ago but still works great. It’s an old school Rockford Punch 500s 2 channel. My wire configuration should be optimal. Each pair of 4 ohm speakers wired in parallel to create a 2 ohm load at each channel. My main question is do I want to set my amp to high pass or all pass filter? These will be my mids and highs in a 4 door crew cab super duty truck. I’m not looking for huge bass, some mid bass is good. I have subs with another amp to do my big bass. Rather than buying a 4 channel amp I’d like to use what I already own so this is why I’d like to do my configuration like so. I’ve never used an amp for mids/ highs only subs so this is new territory for me. Kicker CS Series 6"x9" 3-way car speakers- 4 ohm impedance, 150 watts RMS (450 watts peak power) Rockford Fosgate Punch 500S amp - 125 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms 250 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms 500 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms in bridged mode
@NextLevelCarAudio
@NextLevelCarAudio 2 года назад
Thanks for the support and kind words. I’d definitely do High pass between 100-125hz. Just so they don’t get overworked with the frequencies your subs should be handling.

Hey I have a 12inch vibe blackdeath 5000rms 15,000 peak power and a audiobahn 1500HCQ which is suppose to give 2000rms and only thing av added is a litihum 200AH battery in the boot. I did run it without the litihum and got slight dimming from the headlights but now awaiting to chuck my sub back in with the litihum what do you think?

Grounding! If you have a unibody car(no frame) then You should be able to ground at the seat mount bolt, as long as you clean the surface free of paint.

I’ve always tuned my gains by turning up the radio til I hear a slight distortion in the voice speakers then I back off a notch and adjust the gains from there.

hi man, im running an ground zero 12 inch 800/1000w rms 1 ohm and i was thinking to take an SounDigital SD 3000.1 EVO 4.0 amp or SounDigital SD 1600.1 EVO 4.0 but the different in price is only 20 bucks, the 3000.1 is too overpowered for my sub ? i was thinking to set low gain , to lower the 3000 rms to maybe 1000 rms , it is right to think of it this way? keep up the good work :)

Make sure they get shielded! Double or triple shielded would be best to eliminate potential signal interference! Also nylon jacketed is a nice extra layer of protection.

I have a 8k taramp 1ohm then I have 2 star audio 1 ohm 3000 watts max and I also change my alternator to a 370 but when my bass hits it clips goes into protection mode I turn my gain down but sometimes it clips only if I turn it up a little to much I have 3 battery’s too one yellow top and the other ones are ds18 audio battery’s there pretty big battery’s but my bass amp clips from time to time when bass hits hard i have 2 grounds and 2 o gauge wires going threw it I used a splitter at the power and ground to have to grounds and 2 red wire at o gauge but it clips from time to time I’m wondering maybe my taramp 8k bass needs more voltage is the only thing I can think off your thoughts my voice side I have a taramp 5k for my 4 10 but that side never clips

Ok so im doing research before I start my first build …you said power and audio on opposing sides, I was wanting to run my power by the driver door and my audio down the center is this far enough apart or should I route it through the passenger side, I do intend on putting 2-4 LiFePO4 batteries from the truck bed (in a toolbox w/a dc-dc charger and a few other goodies in there) and run that wire up through the driver side to the amps still same setup for audio wire

I seen somewhere that you can tune your subwoofer amp with a tweeter at 40hz when turning your gain up when the tweeter starts making noise you would be clipping your subwoofer and to dial your gain down to where the tweeter is quiet again. Does this way actually work for adjusting subwoofer amp gain?
@NextLevelCarAudio
@NextLevelCarAudio 3 года назад
You can use tweeter method. But not as actuate for me as setting by ear. And not nearly as accurate as using o-scope. Check out my video on my channel on setting gain using cheap $40 o-scope. Here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hQOPP-l3AMo.html

I only running 500 watts for my sub and I am running stock electrical. Before I get a 1500 watt sub amp, I do a big 3 upgrade with 0 gauge OFC. Even though I’m going for an SQ system with a single twelve, I might upgrade my alternator down the road for an extra peace of mind.

One can run all cables on one side of vehicle. Either the electrical cable or the the others need to be shielded. Shielded cable is more expensive but time is money. How much time would you save not removing panels from one side. However if your going to sound proof then no need for shielded cable because you will have all access to both side from removing all for sound proofing.

Does bridging a 2channel amp cut the speaker impedance in half? I was told this many years ago. Like if i bridge my amp to 1 4ohm svc sub. Does the amp see it as a 2ohm load or 4ohm load?
@NextLevelCarAudio
@NextLevelCarAudio 3 года назад
That’s correct. When bridging a 2 channel amp the specs almost always call for a 4ohm minimum load. Because It will be giving the 4ohm speaker 2ohm power so to speak

I just stumbled on this video.. I have 2011 Nissan Altima, it has high mileage...I bought a Bose radio/cd player this spring off of eBay..the radio matches my car..I got my radio from UPS..and I got my money back, I found out from the dealership that I need an amplifier so the radio can work properly, I’ve been trying to find an amplifier and etc.. and I don’t won’t to spend too much money on my car, because it’s an older model Altima, want kind of stereo system/ speakers do you recommend that won’t break the bank
@NextLevelCarAudio

You can factory integrate into your existing head unit. No problem. I’d get a good set of components. (Woofer,tweeter,crossover) for your front doors, and an amp to power them. Then a subwoofer and amp for your trunk. Size/power depending on how hard you want to bump
