Watch Jigarthanda Double X and thank me later 😊 One of the highest rated movies of 2023, it's a gangster drama with dark comedy, political themes, and is constructed an an ode to cinema through its theme, meta plot and movie references. (Loosely connected prequel to Jigarthanda, 2014, great too but not on the same scale)
I wanna add to the chorus and say that i also really miss the titles of the movies at the bottom of the screen. The great thing about these top 10 of movies of the year was always the amount of movies that are shown/mentioned and having the titles on screen helped to look for them.
I'm more than frustrated with this exact issue. It's one of the big reasons why I loved & recommended Cinefix to people for so long (before IGN ofc). Sometimes it's one of those random movie mentions that is more eye-catching than the actual pick. In fact, often it is one of those random mentions.
“They Cloned Tyrone” ABSOLUTELY deserves to be on this list! Can’t believe how under the radar this film went! It’s a masterpiece from start to finish and holds amazing rewatchability!
10. Godzilla minus one - action 9. Beyond Utopia - documentary 8. The boy and the heron - animated 7. Talk to me - horror 6. Killers of the flower moon - thriller 5. They cloned Tyrone - best July 21st movie 4. Poor things - comedy 3. Asteroid City - drama 2. The taste of things - foreign film 1. The zone of interest -top film of the year
Audio so much better! Nice quick reupload, and a pretty solid list. I got Monster as best movie of the year but I’m heavily biased on the Kore eda/Sakamoto masterpiece
I was just about to ask what's up with the audio in this video. Was the mic recording even more muffled in the original upload? Glad they fixed it to this point then, but I wonder what had happened.
THANK YOU for re-uploading! The soundtrack is awesome, but Clint Gage’s voice is awesome-r. Have a great new year, CineFix! My favorite channel on RU-vid
It's wonderful when these lists happen to both agree with some of your own choices (The Zone of Interest, Asteroid City, Poor Things in my case) as well as throw a curve ball and introduce you to something new (They Cloned Tyrone). Looking forward to checking out some of these other suggestions.
If I may give another recommendation: Watch Jigarthanda Double X and thank me later 😊 One of the highest rated movies of 2023, it's a gangster drama with dark comedy, political themes, and is constructed an an ode to cinema through its theme, meta plot and movie references. (Loosely connected prequel to Jigarthanda, 2014, great too but not on the same scale) Another rec is Sapta Sagaradaache Ello (Side A & Side B), hard hitting romantic drama about a young couple dealing with separation when the man goes to prison.
Here you go, the list of all the movies mentioned in the video including the movies talked of without spelling out their names because our guy drops random gems here and there just like that. Feel free to correct or add any movies I might have missed out. Saw “Anatomy of a fall” yesterday. Wasn’t expecting to like it but was blown away.. it really is a Masterpiece. The plot, the pacing, how they foster doubt as to the truth behind the accident, the depth of the characters, some surprising quirks in the cinematography, the performances. When it ends you are intrigued and disturbed yet in awe of it. For once a Palme d”Or has real substance. Its a Great film that is a great story with good tension. Best film in a long time.. Cinefix you should watch it again because it deserves a lot more than the mention you gave it.

I personally wouldn't put Asteroid City in the top 10 at all. It was Wes Anderson doing meta Wes Anderson. The storytelling was the story, and hence the story was bad, the characters didn't have enough screen time to sink in, and I was left wanting for another Grand Budapest. To each there own but it felt like Community's Abed making a movie about Abed.
My least favorite Anderson movie. I was so disappointed. Should not be on this list. Agree that none of the characters had enough time to sink in and have weight. Fridging the mom at the start of the movie is lazy too.
Y'all really are the best! They Cloned Tyrone just shot to the top of my list. I also appreciate the Suzume shout out. That's my favorite film of the year so far.
Man THANK YOU for putting They Cloned Tyrone on this list. No else has done that so far. I didn’t even realize it dropped on the same day as those other films...
Zone of interest is a monumental achievement of the art form in its totality, the human compliance, the evil we choose not to see but it lingers in the corners… Taste of thing is one of the most marvelous and gentle movies of the last decade… thanks for bringing it on!
Watching Asteroid City is like listening to the dialogue in my head going round and round with itself. I loved it. You guys always have something unique to add to the conversation and I'll definitely be going through a lot of your list. Happy New Year!
Guys, I watch this channel for many years and I couldn't ignore the stereotypical way you talked about North Korea. You made them the villans, but the Korean War was a genocide caused by the United States who separated the land!
Great as always, many films I didn't know about until today which definitely are a must watch now. But a comment on your edition, it is nice you try to add the title card of the movie (in its own font) entering the list, but I really like the old method, the ribbon where you put the name, year and director. Same goes to the little 'subtitle like' info about the movies you mention that didn't get on the final list, as a non native english speaker it was really helpful to know the names of those, and since they are not mention on the description it is more difficult to get a grasp on them. Please think about yourselves as a global chanel, as you were before IGN.
Agreed on how useful the ribbon was, especially for the mentions. When I put the transcript on, it was a lot easier to follow though, so I could reconstruct the list, but yes, the ribbon was great.
It would have been nice if you were to list all of the mentioned films in the description section, as you raced through them too quickly to get to the winning film (i was interested in the contenders as well)🤷♂
MY TOP 10 MOVIES 2023 (Warning: middle aged man bias) 10. Trolls 3: Band Together - Let's start off with my most quirky choice. Because of my 6 year old daughter watching this a zillion times, this film played a big part of our family life for the past couple of months. The flick has no right being this good, after a middling first movie and lousy second entry. Banging soundtrack! 9. The Covenant - tight action, never dull, a new kind of Guy Ritchie film 8. Poor Things - weird, wild, a hard R rating, funny, Emma stone command performance 7. John Wick Chapter 4 - everything you want in an over the top action flick 6. They Cloned Tyrone - blaxploitation meets sci-fi meets comedy. Just so, so good and thoroughly entertaining 5. The Killer - super underrated. An upper tier Fincher flick, if you are a fan of that director 4. Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse- at least as good as the first one. Quality from beginning to end. 3. Super Mario Bros. Movie - so earnest, totally family friendly, sweet, pure, and yes that’s 3 animated films on my list 2. The Holdovers - harkens back to a simpler time of flimmaking. The performances and direction just stuck with me, for days and even weeks after watching. Touchign without ever being saccharine or twee. 1. Oppenheimer - the front runner for best picture, and for good reason. Compelling, staggeringly brilliant filmmaking Runners up: Barbie- a delightful comedic treat The Creator. Incredible Sci-FI premise, with stunning visuals. Almost fantastic, the lead actor brought down the energy of the film Beau Is Afraid: a crazy, kooky movie. Out there surreal horror. Not for everyone, but as a middle aged man I connected with it in bizarre ways Inside: starts off pretty standard and then becomes a bonkers Art/experimental film, and I’m here for it. Without William Dafoe it’s a pass, but he makes the movie. BlackBerry: thoroughly watchable little dramedy. Nothing mind-blowing, but solid and fun. Killers of the Flower Moon: Let’s get honest, this movie should be on my Top 10 list instead of Trolls 3. It was so good. But so long. Incredible direction and acting. But did I mention it’s long? Would’ve preferred the piece chopped into 8-10 chapters and served up as a miniseries.

Awesome list! I haven't made my way through those shown yet, but so happy to see some Asteroid City appreciation. Its now in my top 5 of all time and I think a lot of people quickly wrote it off for being to whimsical...when it's one of the deepest movies out there. Good stuff! 👍
@ririswan6352 "Literally nothing happens in the first half of the movie..." would describe a humongous chunk of cinema as a whole, and probably a one hundred percent of the greatest films ever made.

1) "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" belonged in "Animation", if you're going to split things up by category. 2) "They Cloned Tyrone" was a great idea but with a tepid execution. And way more of a Social Commentary-style film than something I'd simplistically categorize as "Sci-Fi Fantasy". 3) "Asteroid City" was twee nonsense. "I don't understand -- just keep telling the story" is a line that's a perfect encapsulation of the script. All production design, no plot.
I really haven't been keeping up this year, but so far The Iron Claw was the movie i enjoyed the most this year. A bit sad to not see it get a shout out from you guys.

Cineflix: “we would give to Oppenheimer, but since it was viewed by more than 500 people, we’d rather give to this Iranian movie recorded with a Motorola V3 and premiere in a church basement in a small city in Sri Lanka”
Your really great script on this video is impressive. I watch plenty of RU-vid pieces like this, but wow, between the scripting and how it was read, this really worked well. Great editing and all that, sure. But what a great read. It felt like a friend telling me about this and not an ANNOUNCER.
Great list! Was hoping for a mention for Fallen Leaves by Aki Kaurismäki in the foreign section. Brilliant movie from a genius director who should be talked about more in my opinion.
Damn..That was really Truly good.. I’m impressed A descent explanation of most films with tact And personal opinion Without being overbearing by the critics personality. Every take was interesting to listen to, I am honestly impressed. I hope you said more about the international films I barely got their titles though. Regardless and with no nitpicking I Look forward to your continued reviews, and Thanks Always for mentioning unconventional and less mainstream films and shows. Much Needed

I am curious, since both are foreign films, which do you rank where outside of genre between The Taste of Things and The Zone of Interest? Do you stick with TToT because you named it best foreign? That would mean you prefer it over TZoI, right? Or if you were classifying outside of genre where it you could not have two films occupy the same slot, would you rank TZoI ahead of TToT? Again, both are foreign, and both are dramas, which intrigues me of how you would rank them against one another.
nobody can hype up a movie like the guys from cinefix. I lost 99% of my passion for movies but maybe I'll give a few of these a chance... when I have time...

I have loved most of Wes Anderson's output but found Asteroid City to be too arch and detached for my personal tastes. The Stork And The Heron has beautiful and amazing animation, but I found the story to be unfocussed and disjointed. They were not "bad" movies, just disappointing for me. If they brought others joy, that's cool.

It's frustrating that you don't show the names of the films at the bottom of the screen as they appear, like in your other lists. I wasn't always able to understand the names of the films he was saying.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. I love how it captured how one thoughtful boy becoming a man can challenge an entire system of conformity by questioning the very foundation of its beliefs - that sacrifice is necessary. I've never seen such a succinct takedown of the basic conceit and cruelty of collectivist ideology.
My top 20 would be: 1. Oppenheimer 10/10 2. Barbie 9/10 3. Chłopi 8/10 4. Past Lives 8/10 5. Air 8/10 6. Godzilla Minus One 8/10 7. Killers of the Flower Moon 8/10 8. Elemental 8/10 9. BlackBerry 8/10 10. Saltburn 8/10 11. Zielona granica 8/10 12. Maestro 8/10 13. The Holdovers 8/10 14. The Equalizer 3 8/10 15. May December 8/10 16. Znachor 8/10 17. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 8/10 18. Scream VI 7/10 19. Dumb Money 7/10 20. Asteroid City 7/10 I still need to see the below as they will open later in my country: Poor Things (Jan 19) The Color Purple (Jan 26) The Zone of Interest (Feb 9) Fallen Leaves (Feb 9) All of Us Strangers (Feb 9) Monster (Feb 16) The Iron Claw (Feb 16)
@@xkee2013 I did. It didn't crack my top 20. It's a brilliantly made movie that... didn't connect with me on an emotional level at all. I admired it but didn't like it.
@@LelekPLN So ALL these movies connected with you and ATSV didn't? Hmmm. So that's why you didn't like it? Fascinating. I respect your opinion. I vehemently disagree with it, (especially based on your list) but I still respect it.
Seeing Godzilla right away ❤ that movie pulled so much emotion out of me in each viewing I’ve had so far (3 times Ahaha) it’s just, the best Kaiju film in decades, ever maybe
In alphabetical order - Barbie; Bottoms; Broker; Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves; Elemental; How to Blow Up a Pipeline; Nimona; Past Lives; Polite Society; Rye Lane; Scrapper; Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse It's all subjective in the end, but these were some of my favourites. I didn't yet get chance to see a few more that I think I will like, such as Anatomy of a Fall or Godzilla Minus One.
Once again, the absence of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in the list of animated films leads me to consider that The Boy and the Heron might have a chance to win the Oscar.

Yeah…. Asteroid City is just “Wes Anderson being Wes Anderson” without anything actually *interesting* about it. I mean, I love most of his works, but this one just feels more like a caricature of a Wes Anderson movie than an actual serious movie of his. I dunno, maybe it’ll grow on me on a rewatch in a couple years, but I was seriously underwhelmed by it.
i got 2 movies on my list, which I watched and enjoyed multiple times: If You Were the Last, and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Runner ups: The Creator, The Velveteen Rabbit, Kick Me, A Haunting in Venice, Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning Pt.1, Barbie. now, if we wanna talk "bad" movies, we can do that too. Lady Ballers, The Marvels, Rebel Moon Part One, Manodrome, Lion-Girl

Putting a good Wes Anderson movie as a thumbnail is a mistake. No actual real fan of his would consider it among his best works let alone a thumbnail for best of 2023... Love all you do usually just got to point out the obvious when needed.
Sneaking in a shot under the guise of self-deprecation is almost as good as your videos are. Once again, I thank all of you. Perhaps this year I will finally watch The Mirror. Please help reminding me.
Phew, the audio was terrible in the other video but my comment still stands - Godzilla Minus One was my favorite movie of the year, it had everything *INCLUDING* Godzilla.

Good call on They Cloned Tyrone. I don’t know if Jamie Foxx has been funnier. And Poor Things is glorious and messy movie that reminds me of Fellini’a insistence on nothing looking real and yet I accepted it completely.
thank you so much for reposting with improved sound! it was a pleasure to watch and as always left me wanting to watch a bunch of movies. Poor Things is up for tonight. Happy new year!
Your list is very good. I struggled finishing 'Poor Things', although the movie got better as it ended. 'Zone of Interest' was more like the best film of the decade.
