What cards do I have (or not have) from Mike Payne's Top 100 Baseball Cards from the 1980s? Here is the article from Beckett: www.beckett.com/news/top-100-...
Great video because the 1980's were the golden age of the card collecting hobby. All these cards, regardless of their $$$value, are awesome and bring back fond memories. Thank you for posting.
Thanks for letting me relive a little bit of my childhood! All my cards got burnt up in a house fire in 92 or 93. But all sadness aside my holy grail card would be the 1982 Topps traded Cal Ripken Jr. I had the 1982 Topps as a child but always wanted the Topps traded (he was my hero) One day I will finally get one! :-)
This video brought back so many memories. My father owned a large card shop that I worked at from 81-88 until I left for the Army after graduating high shool. Working with and collecting cards and comics during the 80s was the best childhood ever.
This was a great video and a lot of fun. Looking forward to searching through my collection and ripping some more 80s wax to see what I come up with. Great stuff and better memories!
Great video Joe! I also did a video on this set about a month ago and i have about 65 of the 100. I agree with some of your picks of the players that weren't included. Love those 80s cards. Thanks man always enjoy your videos.
I started collecting in 1985.Great memories.I used to hoard Josee Canesco and of Craig Jeffers.Hehe! The rich kid up the block had the 1984 Don Ross Mattingly.Anyway another great video.I watch card videos all the time to keep sane these days. Thanks Man😂
It would be awesome if you can do that for all decades. 90s 2000s 2010s. To 2020. Top 100 would be so cool. Very informative. Details are great. Well done. Top 100 from 2010 to 2020. Next. Crossing my fingers.
Very cool video brought me back to the time i started collecting! My dad and i put together sets of all manufactures from 81-84. I even kept alot of the doubles. However years ago these sets lost favor and i had a storage unit broken into. I got them replaced but it wasn't the same and then about 3 yrs ago had a friend help me with my collection and these sets didn't make it back to my house. I still have about 20 cards on this list but missing a bunch including Mattingly Fleer and Donruss i still have the topps i think. While watching this i did purchase a set of 81 Topps and Fleer so we shall see how those turn out. Very nice collection by the way!!
I really love this set and there are some great cards you showed love it. i am working on it as well as I just got back into collecting and thought this would be a good set to chase. I created my first video ever about it this week so great timing.
35 years later and the 84 Donruss Donny Baseball is still the most sought after card from the era. Only ever found 1 as a kid as it was horribly miss-cut.
What I like about the list is that its not just the most valuable. Cards of guys like Wally Joyner, Joe Charboneau and Ron Kittle truly reflect baseball cards in the 1980s. I wasn't collecting when the latter two were hot (like you, 1987 was my first year collecting), but I heard the stories from my uncle. Thanks for the video, we need more content with all the crap going on. I shared this on Twitter.
Although the 1982 Topps Kmart Wills honors the 20th anniversary of his MVP season with a picture of him on a 1962 Topps card, THAT particular card was never produced due to a contract disagreement at the time. Hence the 1982 card is a representation of a Wills "rookie " card albeit twenty years later.
What a list?!?!? Griffey at 50...John littlefield...It sounds fun to find/match a list of cards though! I need to find that 88 scrore update! I love the RR of Griffey...
Awsome 80's man I am surprised on how many you didn't have, awesome chicken card I don't have one Wally Joyner was a stud for a short time. Great showcase
Billy Ripken could almost be number 1 for the amount of non collectors that wanted that card. I remember the USA Today having a article about it and on the tv. Thought 86 Donruss Canseco should be higher. That card absolutely exploded. I could go on and on about this. Awesome video. Wish I saw it sooner.
Awesome... I looked through the list quickly and I only have about 14 of them. Of the 85 Kirby Pucketts, the Donruss is the best looking one and, of course, the one he left off the list.
Such a frustrating video to watch! I kept wanting to comment like it was a live stream lol Some great cards in there and many points I wanted to agree with :)
I only had 5 of the cards, the Griffey Upper Deck Rc, the Fleer Greg Maddux Rc, the Topps Griffey Rc, The 87 Topps Mark McGwire, and the Donruss Barry Bonds Rc.
I went through the list and I only had 4 of them: 1988 Topps #799 Tom Glavine; 1987 Fleer Update #U-68 Greg Maddux; 1987 Topps #320 Barry Bonds & 1982 Topps K-Mart 20th Anniversary #2 Maury Wills.
Becketts list was good but where was? 1987 fleer will clark rookie. It was selling like hotcakes for 30 bucks. 1989 fleer ken griffey jr rookie 1987 topps jose canseco with the cup on it everyone liked the cards with the cup 1985 donruss kirby puckett rookie 1983 donruss tony gwynn rookie 1983 fleer tony gwynn rookie 1981 topps tim raines rookie they put like 5 worse guys in over the best from that set. 1989 upper deck jim abbott card was hot for awhile 1981 fleer rickey henderson 1987 donruss mark mcgwire rated rookie
I have that Jim Abbott card. For some reason i have like 50 Jim Abbott cards in my collection. He was a badass but I never PC'd him so i don't know how i ended up with so many lol
Excellent collection again. I have as few you don't have. We can do some business. I'm selling my collection, your collecting. Got my cards in the 80's and 90's Never bought again
Little trivia knowledge.....that 1988 UD promo Wally Joyner was the first card ever produced by Upper Deck. I think their first card ever, but certainly their first baseball card.
The ‘88 Delino Deshields is noteworthy because it doesn’t exist in the Topps set. It’s one of the only cards made exclusively for the O Pee Chee sets, which otherwise are identical to the Topps sets (except for logo and inclusion of French translation and occasional ‘now with x’ note on front).
where did you get the 100 list shit i got the 83 topps mcgee forgot to put in my video..but i have the becket mag..but i only noticed the top 80..did i miss the 100?
Enjoyed the top 100! I have every topps cards which are in their original sets. Have every Topps set 78-present. Topps 71-76 just missing 77 set. Can you tell I'm a Topps fan?
Hey. Love the channel. I have the 89 USA Topps Jim Abbott. Also have the 89 USA Topps Tino Martinez RC. Let me know if you want to do a trade. My 89 Upper Deck Randy Johnson split somehow. Heard you say you had a few. If not it's all good. Keep up the videos!
Am I the only one who sees a gap between the top of the 83 Topps Gwynn and the inside of the holder? It looks like the card is smaller than it should be. To be clear, I am not claiming Silver Jackify did anything shady. There are so many trimmed PSA 10 cards in circulation, it's almost becoming commonplace to see them these days.
Howard Cosell saying that Willie McGee was ugly, like ET on live TV was one of the most disrespectful comments ever said on live TV. Willie McGee was not happy about it, and understandably so.
I'm a big Canseco fan, but the 87 card is one of the least appealing All Star Rookie cards I've seen; it's just not a good picture. Even the cool topps cup doesn't make up for it. The Mcgwire rookie is only worth it as a Tiffany, the Bonds tiffany is a pain because I had 2 that should have graded higher; either were better than 10's I've seen.
Very nice cards I got the same cards. I got like triple seven. The card that you don’t have I got you can get a hold of me on the RU-vid comments. Look up a Harold Baines or Dave Stewart cut off card Joshua domeier if you’re looking for them cards you are missing. I got them cards im perfect condition you got some u don’t have let’s talk
i do not have the johnny ray/bonds error. i do not have maury wills, i don't have mattinlgy 85 tiffany only topps or the winfield/mattingly together. honestly i would say i have 85 of the 100 please checkout my videos i just started making episodes from 1950-to present im up to 1988 i love your videos...much respect..breeze
