When you were making pizza the other day I started thinking about using a pudgy pie iron it might work for pizza and you can cook something else on your flattop.
Cookie Sheets!!! I have about 4 half size cookie sheets from SAMS to transport food/equipment to and from the griddle. But you are spot on in keeping it simple out on the griddle.
Two things I think are a must that are not on here: 1) The aluminum tubs that go into the grease trap. Saves you a lot of cleanup! They are so cheap. 2) A fold out elevated tray that you can put somewhere on your griddle when cooking things such a pancakes. You can put the finished ones on the elevated trays and it keeps them warm while you finish all the other food Bonus 3) A TV so I can watch the Chargers games while cooking for everyone at football parties!
I like it when you were talking about the do and you mentioned recycling. I was about to go buy a dome for my griddle when I realized what I was about to buy, was identical to the wok lid that I had in the kitchen that I rarely use. It lives on my grill. Didn’t cost me more. we also had a leftover stainless steel bowl/pan that is like the one we used to feed our dogs with. I drilled the hole in the bottom and put a small wood knob on top and I’ve got a small. Again additional expense. I’ll save those pennies and use them on a good instant thermometer every day.
Been using the Flatrock and it's totally changed my meal prep game. So much easier meal prepping for the week for the fam. Need to add the metal lid to my list.
I have to agree that an instant-read thermometer is hands down the must-have. Using it to get the proper temp increased the quality of our food from hit or miss to home chef quality. Especially getting the breast right on a turkey!
Aluminum serving trays make great steam covers, just use tongs or spatula to lift them up. I have a dewalt tool box to keep the griddle tools and accessories under the griddle shelf and out of the heat. The blue rhino griddle has wide side shelves that double as a cover, and allow hanging a grocery bag as a trash bin. You could punch a larger hole in the ketchup bottle lid. The spray can of Chosen avocado oil works well for a light mist.
I bought the generic spatulas and scraper on your recommendations. They are awesome. The best thing I bought was a rolling tool chest from Harbor Freight. I use the top as extra table space for prep and the drawers for my griddle and grill tools, tv remote, etc.
Well done, thank you for the practical solutions. We are just getting started using our Blackstone while camping. The heat controls aren’t very good but nothing at that cost is perfect.
Blackstone's combo thermometer doesn't seem to get enough recognition IMO. Infrared and probe features and it's awesome . It's small, accurate, and combines two tools into one. I recommend it to everyone that buys a new flattop and I'm not sure why I almost never see it on RU-vid.
Shameless ( LOL ) plug for the best spice combos I have used - And like you - years ago when I first started my griddling venture I thought I had to have a lot of "accessories" that I rarely if ever use - Thanks Neal
Whether you have a flat top or charcoal or gas, the #1 game changer in improving your cooking is the instant read thermometer. Knowing when to pull your food off the heat is so important. Your final product will be more spot on more often. My steaks come out perfect every time. Going by touch is way to iffy, and it depends on your cut of meat. Sirloins feel different than ribeyes at 120°F.
Excellent and very informative video Neal! By the way I just saw y'all on Tommy's show. That was a fun video to watch this morning as well. Have a great day Neal! 🌞
The aluminum pans for the grease trap. They are disposable but I dump out the gear and water wipe it out and reuse. I also have the orange silicone cover for the BS and love it
Great video. I would love to watch a video where you try and find a tool that is close to the Treager scraper. Then we could all buy that tool instead of having to buy the Treager kit.
@@TheFlatTopKing I've done some research on this. One top names is Hell's Handle products. After finding them and researching more, I found a brand that's well made, equilavent to Hell's handle, for $7. Maybe you can do a comparison between a Hells Handle ($45) and a Choice 6" x 5" Square Edge Turner with White Polypropylene Handle Item#: 407TRNRSW65
Such great videos! Quick question on cooking essentials: How do you clean your wood cutting boards? A local chef once told me to never use soap and water as the soap can leave off flavors. I didn't think to ask him "So what do you use instead?". So? Asking a different chef now : ) Thanks again! Love the videos and your presses are fantastic. Cheers from CO
Personally I think thats crap...ahhaha now way you can sanitize chicken pork beef etc....I have used soap my whole life....never once have I noticed something off...My biggest advice is...make sure your cutting board is oiled/seasoned correctly...this will prevent the deep penetration of flavors...as well as bacteria
Great video & info, my personal issue is I have so many types of grills from smoker/Gas/ wood fired pizza oven to charcoal i can't possibly buy and or store a dedicated griddle I have been looking for something that would fit Weber Summit S670 to use as a griddle to use in top of this BBQ, Any info on this would help me out immensely.
Neil , Amy another great video . Question , that silicon mat , I've heard their good for winter storage . They help with mouse droppings , I have them here and I've tried everything to stop them , your thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated .
I use a plastic cleaning caddy from the thrift store to tote everything out to the griddle. It's not as nice as yours or a blackstone caddy, but it was $1.
“Your” meat press is not available? I looked up as many ‘Kenzy’; ‘Kensy’; ‘Kenzey’ message as I could think of but could not find them…. Did I miss them listed?
Based on this video, the real question is, out of all the griddles you've used and done reviews on, which is your go to griddle? I'm still in my research phase and can't make my mind up on which to get. So many great models to choose from and all in a similar price point.
@@TheFlatTopKing --$900----$450--$900 in named order and lowest prices listed at the time I checked Sometimes there must be massive sales like I have run across with Blackstone
Do you have to constantly recalibrate those thermometers I have one but I always feel it’s not accurate because I feel like like I need to recalibrate it in a glass of water help me out here I’m a greenhorn
you would think that by now someone would have copied that traeger scraper design. i was completely let down when i discovered you had to buy an overpriced kit for 1 good tool and a bunch of useless junk.
hahaha I an not looking....I have turned them down...I have never chased or wanted a brand deal with griddles...you think i am this far in the journey and have not been approached....We just mentioned on multiple videos I was just in Salt Lake City, 2 weeks in a row for both Camp Chef and Traeger....
You must be referring to the Thermapen ONE. I have one. I also have a ThermoPro Lightning, second from left at 8:26 in the video. When I got the Lightning, I felt like a fool for falling for the marketing BS from Thermapen. Paid double for the ONE vs the Lightning, and the Lightning works exactly as well as the ONE.
@@TheFlatTopKing Still too long, as of RU-vid watcher nowadays short informative videos are most helpful and useful. Thank you for replying bro, good luck.
