Another benefit of a light is that it is a legal defense. You can say with confidence that you were able to correctly identify your target and item that made them a threat.

Another advantage of a weapon mounted light is it's very disorienting to look at while turned on even in the daytime

Personally, I'm particularly excited about the advancements in optic systems and recoil management.

As a Canadian, the only upgrade to my pistol I need is a visa that leads to a green card.

One more advantage to a weapon mounted light is only having to draw one thing instead of two. Though you should have a second, off weapon light for those instances where you need a light, but it wouldn't be appropriate to draw your weapon.

I run a TLR 1 and Swampfox Justice on my Glock 19 gen 5. I do agree with this top 5, but light and sights are definitely the 2 most important in my book.

Red dot, barrel, comp, trigger, and light. Those are the upgrades to pick if you need to upgrade. And I would definitely choose compensator over slide cuts and porting. Rather not fool with factory weights and specs of a slide.

I have a streamlight laser/light combo on my P09. That laser is surprisingly useful for taking snap shots. Its almost as accurate as using my irons.

I know this might sound odd, but I actually wish the magazine release on my Glock 19 Gen 5 stuck up a bit more and wasn't so far forward on the grip. That's literally my only complaint about that part of the gun; otherwise, it fits my hand pretty well without any backstrap. I do like that they included an ambidextrous slide lock, but that too has its flaws, in my opinion.

One thing to keep in mind with a weapon light is that while you are searching with the weapon light you are also aiming a deadly weapon. That doesn't mean you don't put a light on your weapon but it might be a good idea to also keep a hand held light with your gun.

When red dot sites finally "click" for you, you'll ever go back. Its like riding a bike. One day you "get it" and wonder how you ever shot without them. It really was weird when it happened for me. It was basically instant and you cant "unsee it"

Another nice thing about a weapon mounted light is the added weight on the rail helps with muzzle flip and recoil

Two drawbacks to weapon mounted lights: 1.) To use it, you're pointing a presumably loaded and ready to fire weapon at someone. That's felony assault in many states. 2.) Since the light is typically much wider than your trigger guard, light bearing holsters are significantly wider than the gun allowing a gap between gun and holster for easier entry of foreign objects like draw strings or other small objects into the trigger area - reducing holster safety. A good light is critical. Where that light is... is just as critical.

My carry is a 19x so unfortunately no dot options unless I get it milled. But I love this gun for edc so I’m keeping the irons on that. Anything else I’ll put a dot on.

Weapons lights are great except wherever you are pointing the light is also where your weapon is pointing. If I'm not sure that what went bump in the night is a lethal threat I'd rather not point my weapon at it making me a lethal threat. (Example: Police chasing a suspect into my yard and you point your weapon mounted light to see them better. They may be justified in using lethal force.)

I remember 30 yrs ago when the biggest upgrade for our glocks was a rubber Hogue grip.

Only use your support hand thumb to activate your WML, not your trigger finger.

I keep hearing everyone talk about and demonstrate "proper grip" and yet the grip deemed proper inadvertently engages the mag release and/or makes the shooter reliant upon having two hands available. My grip is complete before my support hand even gets near the gun, which allows me to shoot nearly as accurately with only one hand and, in defensive situations, I won't be at a severe disadvantage when I'm fending off an attacker with my support hand and I will be harder to disarm. Thank you Massad Ayoob for demonstrating an actually proper grip that functions just as well single-handedly.

I have a SIG Sp2022 and my grip always makes the slide not lock to the rear. I love the extended, easy to reach slide release, but sometimes I wish they had just kept it small

Talon or Handleit grips work well for improving grip.

For the 99% of gun owners out there that are neither SpecOps nor LEO, a bombproof mounter weapon light is overkill. Also, I'll never understand why any civilian who's decided to mount a weapon light wouldn't step up to a combo light & laser. For lightning fast target acquisition, especially in low light (or with a green laser, at any time), there's nothing like it, even with a red dot (which can be one's plan B).

If you're at home, in the dark, you can turn on your home's lights. Adding a weapon light and red dot adds size and weight to your carry gun and the size of your holster. You may find yourself leaving your carry gun at home because it's become bulky and heavy.

Weapon mounted lights are highly overrated for non law enforcement. We don't get to pull guns and point them at people before we've identified whether they are threat or not. The likelihood of legally justifiably hunting someone down in the dark with a WML is also highly dubious. I have one on my nightstand gun, but rarely carry with one anymore.

Wouldn’t it be better to have a flashlight to identify the target first? It would be a better option than to have a flashlight on a loaded pistol aiming it at one of your loved ones. Just a thought.

My honest advice: Do not modify or add anything to a serious self defense weapon. I have had numerous range guns come up with sudden issues and malfunctions after changing springs, red dots, etc

So basically buy a pdp pro and throw a light and dot on it. Grip perfect, trigger perfect, controls perfect, rail perfect. They fixed just about every gripe people had with the ppq. Why buy a glock and sink tons of money modifying it when you can buy a pdp pro, which is better than a modded glock, right from the start

Training, practice, and solid skill base are more important than what is on the gun. Indian, not the arrow.

All this comes down to CC or Home defense/Duty. For CC I will not put a dot or a light on my CC gun. For inside your home or duty use, a light and dot are a must. For CC a light on your gun is no good. All it will do is encourage you to maybe commit a crime. You cannot point a loaded weapon at someone to see what they are doing. Just well, the only reason you should EVER pull your gun is when your in imminent danger, by then you have already identified the threat and have decided lethal force was needed and the time for the light has passed. It might come in handy for after the shooting to make sure the threat is down, but most don't think of it being used like that.
