We learnt this trick from the great Kiff McManus who we recently interviewed on this Channel. It's well worth a watch for some fascinating stories and useful tricks employed while working on Top Gear, The Grand Tour and most recently the Feature Film "Boiling Point."
In this rig Simon Bysshe from URSA demonstrates how a DPA microphone is more sensitive on one side compared to the other and how this can be utilised to capture the cleanest audio on set. We also demonstrate a way to use sticky tape as a protective layer against wind noise and some neat tricks for holding the mic in place to avoid it becoming ripped off in the heat of the action.
Filmed in Madrid during our URSA Workshop Tour of Spain with See Sound AV - we were overwhelmed by this fantastic location for a workshop! A huge, quiet, acoustically still mixing stage all for us to play around in all day!
We are currently editing a load more videos from our tour of Spain. So please stay tuned for more.

Saw Kiff talk about this technique in the original video and we've used it countless times since in all sorts of weather and locations including on lots of climbers. Definitely worth using Very Sticky Circles for extra staying power 💪

Great trick I’m gonna try this. I’m curious though, what white tape is that went over the cord? It almost like paper tape.

This is a golden tip, can't wait to try it myself. Out of curiosity is it really a way to completely eliminate rustling noise on set? I've issues dealing with it on winter jackets and chef suits

Great tip! Thanks for sharing. I see the URSA TAPE sticky strips on amazon but not the MINI MOUNTS used in the video. Is it the same type of tape, same strength. Could i buy the big ones and cut them? Asking because if its too strong i might not be able to use the small circle furs again. Thanks!

tbh, the result doesn't sound that well, especially if it is for a show with so much action and movement. I'm sure if given enough time he can make it more perfect.

I bet he knows how to make it sound impeccable. But for this video you guys didn't do him justice. It sounds really bad and rustle-ey.
