I may not agree with a lot of his opinions and beliefs, but when it comes to describing songs that he hates, nobody in the music review community can top Mark

As much as I love ARTVs diverse content and Todd's humour, Mark is easily my favourite critic on RU-vid. I just love how deep he gets into the analysis and even if we disagree, I usually see where he's coming from.

Judging by Chris Brown and Lil Wayne's appearances, I'm almost 90% sure "Look at me now" will be on the list

Jason Derulo's career being an odd mixture of Club Boom, Radio Disney "Adult" Contemporary (for soccer moms), and R&B sex god is fascinating.

Seeing Pumped Up Kicks in the dishonorable mentions makes me feel safe in saying that my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined

In terms of upbeat songs about school shooters, "Teenagers" by My Chemical Romance is way more insightful and interesting than "Pumped Up Kicks" could ever dream to be.

Wow Mark. You put Someone Like You on top of THIS list? I’m incredibly surprised, and I really disagree with you calling Adele the “most overrated, pretentious artist of the 2010s”

Gotta hard disagree on the PC Music shade but I do understand it. Also I will defend "Pumped Up Kicks" as a particularly dark and wry little joke song with a special place in my black and withered heart but, again, I get your issues here.

When Mark tore into Hot Chelle Rae, I thought he would say that the song is basically a bad Family Guy joke, but he saved that reference for “Sexy and I Know It.”

OMG I listened to the radio almost every day in 2011 and #1 played AT LEAST three times an hour. I ended up memorizing all the lyrics and I hated it so much. I still hate it today. Why didn't I ever change the channel?!

2011 was basically the 1991 of the 2010s, a transitional year for music with many changes. Only difference is that the music was a lot less influential in the former year. PS, I'm surprised you hated "Pumped Up Kicks" by FTP. I thought it was a cool song when I first heard it. Well at least you gave out legit criticism towards the song, so I can't flame you there.

Half these songs were my jam when I was 15 (ET without Kanye's verse, The Lazy Song, Pretty Girl Rock, Rocketeer) and I think they still hold up today. Some of these other songs I've either forgotten their existence or were some of the worst of its time

17:30 PREACH! Seriously, though, The Other Side is up there with Versace On The Floor as the best song of Bruno's career, and, yes, had it been pushed as a single, it would've been a massive hit, considering how huge all three artists were at the time.

I completely forgot the song Lighters existed. Goddamn I hated it back then and it sounds even worse now.

Great video. My only real disagreements are E.T, which I find to be a decent banger, and then the placements of The Time and Lighters, which I'd easily swap. "Dishonorable Mention: Foster the People's Pumped Up Kicks" The hatred is a bit unearned, I think. A happy sounding song having depressing lyrics isn't reason enough to hate a song or else Paramore's Hard Times would be the worst song of 2017. As for the song's message, I'm not sure the song was trying to have a message. Foster said he normally writes the chorus first and then the rest of the song around it. Originally, the gun was supposed to be a metaphor for something instead of an actual gun. What message or commentary would a song about school shooters have, anyway? No sane person would write a song about school shooters where the message is "I endorse school shooters." There's an Elton John song called Ticking that recounts the events of a mass shooting as if he's talking directly to the shooter in a way that's neither supportive nor judgmental. There's no message or commentary beyond that and yet I consider it one of his most underrated songs. Just saying, maybe you're expecting something from Pumped Up Kicks different from what it was trying to achieve.

I wish he would do a worst of 2009 list first since he seems to really like that year. But I still can't wait for this one!

Seriously, when I first read the original blog version of the Worst of 2012 list, I refused to believe he hates (or hated) that song less than Jason Derulo's 'Don't Wanna Go Home'. Heck, I think I still do. I remember parts of that list where Mark would mention the duo and/or that song with disdain. Right now, the only reason I see someone not liking 'Don't Wanna Go Home' is because of the sample, but hey; we'll find out tomorrow.

Im really glad Mark shares a bit of similarity with my own beliefs regarding the quality of this year. I always perceived it as potentionally the best of the decade for not really having any bad songs in my eyes. Maybe 3-4 I outright dislike but nothing to cry over.... but after looking at that year end list again I couldnt really find that many highs besides adeles contributions and so much of it was kinda forgettable. Still a strong year by virtue of lacking bad songs imo.

I'm not going to argue with many of these. Many of them I even forgot existed. But I will say that "Tonight, Tonight" and "Sexy and I Know It" are guilty pleasures. Also, and I have to be careful with this one, but I also like "E.T.," as long as it's the original and NOT the version with Kanye, because his part is absolutely atrocious.

Lighters isn't the worst song on any any list. But it is somehow one of the most disappointing songs I think I have ever heard. Three great ideas meshed so sloppily together to make an unlistenable song

2011 was during the near end of my high school career but the year I listened to the radio the most. Though while I liked this year, there were plenty of crap. I think the song I disliked the most that I heard this year was probably I'm Sexy and I know it while my biggest guilty pleasure of the year would be the Jason Aldean song (I am kind of a sucker for brocountry that isn't anything done by Florida Geogria Line).

I love Pumped Up Kicks. The tonal dissonance is intentional and a juxtaposition of childhood innocence and violence. The fact it's an up tempo song about school shootings kinda has a punky irony for me

I agree with the number one pick. Nothing worse than a boring song, especially considering how talented Eminem and Bruno Mars are in their own genres. Sexy and I know it hit so bad it’s good territory for me years ago, still does. In 2011 that Enrique Iglesias song creeped me out, and as a woman in her twenties now that opinion still holds up I’m afraid. Something sinister about it in an not fun way. Great list as usual Mark!

The saddest part about Dirt Road Anthem being a Jason Aldean hit in 2011, is that Brantley Gilbert recorded it in 2010 and Colt Ford recorded it in 2008.

I disagree about The Lazy Song. It's not perfect, but I like the cheesy, relaxed, mellow vibe, and as Todd In The Shadow put it, we need a song dedicated to the times when we feel lazy, when we don't want to do anything and just relaxed. Is it Bruno's best song? Of course not. But I'd definitely say it's one of his good songs.

Tonight Tonight is a terribly simple song but I can forgive it. It was on my iPod when I was 5 and I’d always listen to this song. Ah, nostalgia.

I agree with almost all of the picks here... and as for the one dishonorable mention where I had a knee-jerk reaction, I realized that you were right in that "Pumped Up Kicks" has aged horribly. Still surprised that "Grenade" didn't show up at all.

Dirt Road Anthem was mixed a little too high during the buildup to its placement on the list to the point where it drowned out Mark.

You really hit the nail on the head about eminem starting to focus more on technicak wordplay and speed. He was once so poignant and amazing without trying so damn hard. Its like hes trying to prove himself when before he knew he was amazing and just proved it by making awesome songs that were funny and witty and amazing. Now hes so focused on wordplay and speed hes so choppy and jerky and it never sounds pleasant to listen to.

The funny thing is I don't even mind the majority of this list. 2011 really was a great year.

As a pre video comment, dIfficult one to call for the worst. Don't think Chris Brown is going to take number 1 again, Grenade is a horribly manipulative ugly little song which I want to see placed highly on here. Potentially between tonight (I'm fucking you) and Sexy and I know it, as to which one caused the biggest headache and is the most irritating. But then Luke Bryan released Country GIrl (shake it for me) this year as well!, I forgot how much crap 2011 had! jeez....
