All of our jerseys have our last name and the year we got married because that's something we do together as sort of an annual trip and it's easier than picking our favorite player who may or may not stay with the team

I am a Flyers fan. Lived in Pittsburgh for a couple years (2010-2012) found a Flyers Jersey at a thrift store that said ibite and had the number 18( referencing Hartnell biting a players finger in a scrum) I bought that puppy for $4(never had money for a jersey back then) proudly wore that jersey for years and it even debuted as a zombie hockey player costume a couple times.

Agreed with your own name on the back. I have one jersey from each sport I follow (hockey, baseball & football) with my own name and the year I became a fan of said sport. Players come and go so fast that you’d spend a fortune keeping up with them. I know I’ll always be a fan & wont get traded for $1 and a stuffed-crust pizza to a rival team. My biggest jersey foul: It's not wearing fake jerseys (to each their own), but selling fake jerseys at authentic prices, hoping to fool an ignorant soul who doesn't understand the difference.

The most amusing jersey I've seen was during a Red Wings game against the Canadiens last season or the season before that. It was a Canadiens jersey. For the name it said "Leafs suck" and the number was 67.

I go on a lot of business trips and love to catch games. When I go I wear my Kings jersey. I’m just there for a good time. I don’t have a name on my jersey. I see a lot of “Chiefs” jerseys. The team from Slapshot

Life's easier when you realize you only have to make yourself happy. I have jerseys with my last name, and some that say "Sir Jeffrey" (because if you're going to be a Knight, why not use the title?). Yeah, some people give you grief because "I never played" to which I usually respond "I'm not pretending to be Marc-Andre Fleury". I do stick with three different numbers; 17 to represent the year Vegas entered the league, 58 because it's a retired number, and 98, because it's my personal "lucky" number. If / when Vegas wins the cup, I might letter a jersey with "Cup Winners" and the year as the number. The one thing I don't really like is advertising, and even then it's tricky. Attorney Ed Bernstein has a seat pretty close to mine, and wears either a "Nuff Said" or "Call Ed" jersey, but, then again, he also sponsors the penalty kill. I've seen a few that advertise a real estate agency. I sort of toss that into a "not thrilled, but not worth getting upset about". Oh, and my custom VGK jersey was not delivered in time for either the preseason or the first home VGK game back in 2017. I wore a Las Vegas Wranglers jersey. I have the panoramic photo giveaway they had taken on opening Knight, and it helped me locate myself (not that it would have been too difficult, and I just have to move up the blue line from reverse center up several rows). It might have been third party to the game, but reflected Vegas and hockey.

You have my attention Sir! My rules are simple, while I personally do try to avoid putting players names on jerseys that they never wore (EG Gretzky in a 2007 era Rebook OIlers jersey) I feel you can wear (a) any jersey either of the 2 teams wore, at any point in their history (b) any jersey of a specific player currently in the game even if it is from another team. I once saw an article about this that suggested it was forbidden to (a) wear any jersey with your own name on it and (b) can't wear any jersey with a player that is younger than you....stupid.

Your video just made me remember that long ago I saw a Tugnutt Nordiques jersey at a game in Edmonton. The wearer even got Tugnutt's attention in the pregame warmup and he smiled. Tugnutt was such an underrated goalie.

One thing you can do if you have a jersey with your name on it, is wear it to a game and when you inevitably run into one of those super mega "I know everything about this team" fans that will give you crap about it, is tell them "what you've never heard of ______? He was one of the most underrated players of his time, some fan you are.", and watch them panic to find any info on a player with that name.

Any Kings/Ducks Frankenjersey I see at Honda Center just raises many, many, questions. lol

Kings fan here. In the 2012 Finals at Gm.6 there was a guy in a section near me who wore his Kings jersey personalized "CUPB4IDIE." He'd worn that jersey to games for several years. Lots of us in the area came by at the 1st intermission when the Kings lead, 3-1 to congratulate him on finally being able to retire it.

I have always thought the concept of a grown person being so concerned about what another grown person is wearing they go to the trouble of making a Facebook post about it on team fan pages was a bit strange. Its one thing to see it and kind of go 'huh, what???' and another to rant, rave and ridicule someone on Facebook. Back in the day in Nashville we needed every fan we could get to keep the team, and it was a good site seeing hockey fans in the building that were not a fan of either team playing representing their team.

Could you imagine wearing an actual wool sweater and playing a intense sport like hockey. I can understand that perhaps back in the day those arenas might have been pretty cold, or when kids were outside playing in open air rinks having a hockey sweater might have served a purpose.

I have a my Stars winter classic with Zubov’s name. I’ve always thought if someone’s gonna complain about the jersey someone else wears, buy them a new, more accurate one then.

Went to a game in St Louis with the Blues playing against the Flames. I wore my Rangers jersey and my wife was in a Blackhawks winter classic. We got put up in the screen with a message reading “are they lost?”. We were both booed heavily

The same stripe, the same font, the neckline and the logo that gets blocked by a hoodie is the only difference in look. How toxic can a community get?

The only excuse for those half and half jerseys of two teams is when a parent has two kids in the league that play for different teams.

The worst is when you get your last name on a jersey with your favorite number, and then a couple years later a player that has the same last name as you get on the team but with a different number of course. Then you look dumb cause it looks like you got the wrong number for the player.

I wear custom jerseys with my last name and year I was born. I prefer custom jerseys because players move on/retire, but I plan on being a fan for a very long time. They're a bit more expensive, but seeing my name on my favorite team's jersey is amazing!

About the misspelled jerseys, only one I would want is a "Gretkzy" Rangers jersey, just cause that happened in an actual game and would be a fun story

So I have an avid jersey collection for all sports, and I have 2 Milwaukee Brewers baseball jerseys with my name on the back and with the number 95, due to me being born that year, to show that I have been a fan since birth. For those that have custom names, I agree with this fine gentleman that as long as there is meaning behind it, custom names and numbers are perfectly fine.

#2. The NHL Auction site sells NHL Jersey's autographed with name and number by a player from another sport. Gronk Bruins or Lightning jersey, Mike Piazza Islander jersey. THEN they also sell Vice Versa like Baseball, Football, or basketball jerseys with the NHL player's name on them. It ONLY works if the athlete is invited by the other sports team to a game and they give them a jersey to wear for like the First pitch or be on the field before the game. Like other sports, athletes do puck drops wearing hockey jerseys.

I prefer 'era correct' names and numbers on jerseys, but agree that putting 9 / HOWE on a CCM Detroit jersey is absolutely ok as there's no way I want to wear one of those thick wool sweaters on.

Very good video Shannon & congrats on 200K subs. I have a mix of NHL Team Jerseys that have players names and #s as well as ones with my last name on them with a # to reflect a special year. Such as #50 for celebrating the ‘nucks 50th season. The jerseys that have my name on it are mostly used when playing Ice hockey or Ball Hockey. When playing in Beer league tournaments it’s easier for Refs and linesman to populate the scoresheet. Exception to this is when the team has our own custom jersey & have to wear it in the tourney.

I agree with not judging the person wearing the jersey. Sometimes people don't have a lot of money for Jerseys and can find jersey with fouls on them for a couple of bucks in a swift store. It's fun to wear jersey at the game even if it goes against the so called jersey rules.

I have personally done the third party thing to MLB games. I don't have all the teams and we like to visit other stadiums just to see other teams and parks. Its just a plain Detroit home jersey with no name or number. At that point, I'm just a fan of the game and if I get a few high fives from fellow fans, more fun to it. On another note: if you want crazy jerseys, check out the Kalamazoo growlers baseball team. Anything from selfie jerseys, emojis, cows, children's hospital, etc. Cool promotions and fun looks on the field! Great for family small town teams.

Seattle has been leaning into the number 32. They just named the bar at their practice facility "32 Bar and Grill", for example. I agree with your list, tho. I think the 3rd party jersey thing isn't odd, since a lot of us are jersey collectors and like to show off our stuff. They're usually a representation of what teams/players you like, even if they're not present that night. I agree with putting your own name being maybe a little iffy, but it's just something I wouldn't do.

Here in Winnipeg I’ve seen a few Jets/Canadiens mashups, and about 8-9 years back one of my friends and his kid stitched Jets and Leafs jerseys together. I haven’t found any of those mashups to be ugly, but….. that’s a lot of money, man. Especially considering, while it isn’t necessarily ugly, it still doesn’t look good. I’ve also noticed watching some Habs games that there’s a guy in the front seats wearing a Habs/Preds mashup where he has the Sabre-tooth overlapping the ‘C’ in a really creative way. If you’re going to stitch two jerseys together that’s the best I’ve seen done.

Years ago, The Hockey News used to do a ranking, best to worst, of all the minor pro team logos on all the jerseys. The first two years the Cincinnati Cyclones came in last. That godawful goofy looking goalie that looked like Jason Voorhees forming a 'C' with his catching glove and stick. The marketing dept for the team turned that rank into a very successful campaign, "Dare to wear the WORST" and sold tons of jerseys, hats, everything. They'd probably get a jersey foul just for having that emblem.

My friend took me to a Ducks-Sharks pre-season game a couple years back and some guy there had a custom throwback Sharks jersey number: 00 name: CupsWon. It was hilarious.

My favorite story comes from about 8 years ago. I was at a Leafs game for my birthday and at dinner before the game, across the aisle, was a table of Leafs fans. One was wearing a jersey with Mahovlich on the back and I went through dinner kind of chuckling. I finally leaned over and said, "Have you not found a player you could root for since goalies started wearing masks?" He answered something like "there's one in every crowd" and we both had a little laugh.

I do own a couple with my name and number on it. I like Shannon”s reasoning along with the players get moved reason. That and I figure it’s my money, I deserve to be happy with it. I wear 95 as it’s my beer league number, it’s not used much (Mat Duchene, Alexei Morozov) and it’s the year my daughter was born. I’ve often wondered about wearing 0 or 00 as no player can wear it.

The local hockey team the ECHL Jacksonville Icemen did a sport mix jersey with the Minor League Triple-A Jumbo Shrimp Baseball team, on the jersey it says "Frozen Shrimp" and it's the Jumbo Shrimp logo but holding a hockey stick, and the colors changed from two shades of pink to two shades of blue to make the Shrimp logo appear as it's frozen. It's the one local teams jersey I wish i had.

my friend has a flyers jersey with crosby’s name and number. and this is a jersey foul but also a sick power move. as a flyers fan, i find this absolutely thrilling knowing they wear that to games.

Found an old stock 50/50 home/away islanders jersey when a sporting goods store closed. Spent to have the appropriate color letting and numbers. Originally planned on newly named young captain Rian McCabe, but they traded him for Trevor Linden the day before I dropped him off... I liked Linden from his cup final vs the dreaded Rangers so I got his name and number, with the "C". Traded before the end of the season, I never wear it... Even years later.

the Kraken going 21 in the vein of the Seahawks having 12 works pretty well. 20 players on the roster, so the fans are the 21st roster spot, so it can work for that and for their expansion year.

Sometimes when I go to Coyotes games, there’s a group of people that sit in the lower bowl that all wear Frankenjerseys for OEL. Half AZ/Half SWE. I assume they’re probably close friends and family. I thought those were pretty cool, and it actually makes sense.

Two things: 1. When it comes to your own name, I’m fine with it if it’s when you’re a kid or if it was a gift, but when you’re a grown adult I think it’s really dumb. 2. Per your #1 rule, I agree, but I wonder if there were any players you wanted to see playing for a certain team JUST to get the jersey. I wanted so badly to see Martin St. Louis play for the Blues OR to see Miroslav Satan change his jersey number to 6 and play for the Devils.

I think my favorite misspelled jersey was when someone ordered a Colton Sissons jersey and the name was put on upside down. Colton Snossis ladies and gents.

Isn't it interesting how so many players numbers get so ingrained into our memory? Any time you see that number you immediately think of the player. It kind of blows my mind how I can still vividly remember the numbers of players from the early 90's.

$250 for an authentic jersey. That player gets traded or leaves in free agency. That’s $250 out the window. I don’t mind those who put their own name on the jersey.

Problem with getting a jersey with a name on it, is if they get traded and then are hated after they come back, ie: max pacorietty Canadiens jersey, waste of money, I always get my own name, makes me feel as part of the team

Never played for/wrong sport is only acceptable when worn by the athlete whos name is on it (e.g. Dak Prescott shows up at a Stars game, they give him a jersey with his name and #4). Baseball does it from time to time with the ceremonial first pitch. However, if it's funny, it unlocks it for anyone else wearing it ironically (like when Tony Romo signed a 1-day with the Mavericks and fully suited up to take warm-ups).
