I'll say it. The hardest part of liking any of Viv's work is that you can't say shit about neither of the shows because otherwise an army of dudes who won't even read the full thing will manifest only to curse the hell out of you

The Fandom and Hatedom for Vivziepop's works is insane to be honest, you can rarely say ANYTHING because then people will see it as you taking a stand with either side.

Husk’s development in episode 4 was refreshing to see. I hope that the show does more stuff like that.

The pacing is honestly the only real HARDEST I've had with the season soo far. Like I think the story is really entertaining but it could benefit by slowing down a bit. Maybe they’ll do it for the second season but I am still invested.

The show is currently blowing me away. By no means perfect, but it's got so much heart and soul, which is important because that's what got it this far in the first place. I think Hazbin's HARDEST right now is it's rushing all it's plot points. It needs to take it's time because other than that, this show has been amazing, especially episode 4.

For me, I feel like the hardest thing about watching Hazbin Hotel Is that character and story plot lines feel a bit rushed. I didn’t really understand the whole character arc for Vaggie in episode three as I felt like it wasn’t built up enough. I also can’t say I’m that invested in the hotel itself. Since we already know that heaven created hell because they were afraid we don’t really get the sense that redeeming souls is something that is doable, or will achieve anything as we already know there are something sinister going on in heaven. I still like and enjoy the show, especially the music, but the only real plotline I am interested in is Alistair and his backstory. Again, this is just my opinion and anyone is OK to disagree with it.

The Show is the definition of “Flawed but good overall and still has potential”.

The swearing is the biggest turn off for me. Im not pearl clutching. I don't mind swearing but there are ways to use it for comedic effect successfully and vivzie fails at that often. When swearing is shoved down your throat it loses its meaning. Take loser baby for example Husk swearing ruins it. It pulls you out. But at the end when the other demons find them and one goes "they're fuckin' singing!?" That hits well. Curse words shouldn't be used to replace other words. They should be instead used to enhance a sentence for comedic effect. Vivzie doesn't seem to understand this. Infact it's not just her this is a common miss step in a lot of adult cartoons. Take big mouth for example. Swearing can be special but when every other sentece is full of swears it loses its meaning

The creator and the fandom are honestly the part that hurts the show most for me. If people have criticism, even if its constructive, it gets bombarded with pure hate. Story can improve, characters can become more developed, humor can be formed and learned from over time, but the Fandom is an outside factor that the show itself won't be able to fix. Its up to the ones that love it to change the precedent they set. Which hasn't been a good one so far. The people that despise the show aren't much better, each side is an extreme, leaving a very sour taste in my mouth by the fact tha I can't say anything positive or negative without drafting myself into the war or ending up collateral damage in the process

I absolutely love the show, its all i wanted, i never expected a perfect 10/10 show, i wanted a show with complex entertaining characters, great vibes and great art. Now that it arrived I even got super emotional at different parts.

I feel as though Hazbin's biggest problem (outside of overuse of cursing) is having your knowledge of previous material a nessesity to understand some things. Like, did you know that Sinners (people from earth sent to hell, not hellborn) can't die unless it's by angelic weopons. Camilla sells them. Like you only get half the story. So while im LOVING every moment, i can't help but notice that.

I love and hate how rushed it is, I love it because it isn’t underwhelming but at the same time the story is really really rushed.

Personally, I'm just not a fan of existential "heaven is just as bad as hell" type stories. I mean, it works fine as a twist in a Lovecraftian kind of story. But I'm stressed enough about life on earth. I don't need that kind of anxiety about the afterlife.

I'm already addicted to the show. I hope we get more of it cause its a BANGER.

I just wish the show would focus on it's actual main cast more to begin with without jumping right into the deep lore and conflict that's brewing between the angels and demons. Like, in a vacuum (I'm including the pilot along with the show btw), if we ignore all of the fandom theories, Viv's tweets, and all the other information you would've learned about the show from being terminally online, theres no reason to care about these characters really, thus, the huge angels demons conflict feels really underwhelming. And like, when that one character who I cant even remember the name of got that fucking power ballad solo/duet, I was just like, "Ok, who the hell is you though, wtf" I really wanna like the show, but it's just so hard to. I just wanna more of the actual characters that I've grown to really love since the pilot, not dozens of random nobodies that keep being introduced

Im glad hazbin is off to a good start. The fact an artist I found in 2015 has been able to start an indie cartoon revolution and a goofy little idea got turned into a real show that's enjoyable is amazing.

All it really needed was double the runtime for the plot it was trying to tell. We were so close to greatness, held back only by the runtime length of a single long movie.

I personally don't find the raunch to be too off-putting, considering it takes place in literal Hell. It makes sense that the people there wouldn't have filtered language. Though that isn't an excuse for the show to just smother everything in raunch. Where they're at now is fine, its what i would expect the dialogue in a Hell setting to sound like.

A friend told me the pilot was to draw people in to a raunchy hell show with no meat on the bone. Plus I was looking forward to seeing the Archangels and how they would do their relationship with Lucifer. Then they told me and I quote “Adam is the leader of angels and I’m sure there will be no god or archangels talked about in any way shape or form.” So I kinda just tossed my interest out the window.

I guess my issue with my series is that it's struggling to find a balance on what it's trying to be. The pilot was very snappy, very polished, on beat with it's comedy, while telling a bigger story. You start to see this approach take more effect in Helluva Boss. Where it's office humor fits super well with the bigger storylines they're trying to introduce. After watching the first 4 episodes, I realized there are some elements of Helluva Boss that should have stayed with Hazbin Hotel. (The Deadly Sins, musical pieces, etc.) Here, the cast plays off each other well still, but the punchlines became hit or miss. That's because now they have a chance to tell a huge story within 2 seasons. So I expect the show to have moments where they drag on too long. Which makes it weirder that the story is all over the place, because they're trying to cram all these elements in the first season. Do they want to be more episodic? Do they want to focus on lore? Why is everybody getting powerful character development so early? Why do we have so many storylines going on at once, and which should be focused on? You would think they've nailed the formula with the pilot, while working on Helluva Boss at the same time. While this show has a strong identity, it has it's flaws keeping it together. Another brief note I'll mention is the artstyle. The pilot's backgrounds & character models looked fantastic for a concept episode. Here it takes a big dip, with backgrounds looking more flat, and characters feeling more shorter & thinner than they should be? Helluva Boss had this issue too in some episodes, but it's more consistant here. The animation is still amazing to watch. Still very fluent & fun to look at. Overall, it's only the *first 4 episodes,* of *season 1.* With the rest to come, and all the legal controversies out of the way (from both shows). I bet Vivzi feels great finally taking her time writing out season 2. Which gets me a bit excited to see where they're going to take this. This has tons of potential I'm sure they finally want to tell.

The real hardest part for me, as much as I hate it, is watching it without feeling like I’m betraying my religion. I understand that it’s just a fictional show, and I understand that it’s ok to watch media even if it doesn’t agree with your personal beliefs. Despite all that, there will always be something in the back of my mind feeling like I’m getting stabbed in the heart whenever I see people treat my religion like a mythology when they theorize or when people use concepts they don’t understand to paint Judaism and Christianity as bad. I think the biggest hurdles I had to get over were Lilith, Lucifer, and Adam. I just couldn’t keep watching once I got to Adam sadly. It made me too uncomfortable, even though other episodes are really cool and the concept is great. And at this point in my life, if something makes me uncomfortable, it’s healthier to just ignore it I’ve realized. It just sucks cause I really do wanna watch it, cause I actually like helluva boss, but I just can’t

I agree that the pacing is a bit fast. But i still love the show. Heck, some shows have pacing issues as well, but people still love it without it being perfect. I just hope nobody in the show dies (unless it's Val)

Seeing the show introduce the plot about a potential hell uprising from being able to kill an angel... I think the series is getting too big for its britches in that department. Give Viv a story about her twisted characters doing zany things and it's mostly her wheelhouse... give her a full scale Hunger Games haves vs. have nots and all out war? I think the series will get cut short by Amazon before her writing level matches those stakes. I'm not trying to knock her, I just see where her strengths lie. Also, hell's a disorganized corrupt fucked up place where the denizens kill and rape each other, is it plausible that they'd be able to organize to fully change the system? I think she likes introducing big ideas but has no idea where she's going.

This was surprisingly a really well thought out review. You have subverted my expectations once again like with your Plankton vid. My main issue is one that Viv's other show (Helluva Boss) has, a lack of good structure in the season and how the episodes are placed. Idk if that was the actual term for but basically Im referring to the placement of the episodes. Much like Helluva, serious plotlines have been introduced extremely early on in the series and it came with at the cost of less focus on some of the main characters and the jadedness of characters who were supposed to be over the top jerks. We're being introduced to entire new plot lines of different characters that it takes away any development we could've had for existing ones. Tho I will admit it does work much better for Hazbin as it supposed to be much more "serious" than Helluva, and we might need all we can get at the moment for character background and world building. Sry if that was long, great vid nonetheless!

I feel like 8 episodes isn't enough for an entire season. Or rather, it could be enough, but not enough has happened in the first 6 episodes for a season conclusion to happen in 8 total episodes.

I'll be honest I hate the haters more than the fans. Sure it's a bit annoying when people treat Viv like a saint who can do no wrong but there's people who hate her and both shows as if it was personal by now... On a different note. The pacing is way too fast,and idk if I should blame it on flawed writing,or these people trying to get as much out before their show is axed without a warning...

I hate the fact some people dissect the hell out of the world building, point out its flaws, and call it bad writing. There’s gonna be contradictions in any fictional world. Toy Story is one of the most beloved series of movies ever, and there are SO many things that contradict the premise. Like why does Buzz freeze like a toy when he doesn’t think he is one? Or why doesn’t Woody know his own character’s lore when most other toys do? This is left unanswered to this day, but it doesn’t automatically take away from the quality by itself. At that point it’s just a matter of how much these contradictions bother you. That being said, one gripe I do have is that fact that they portray heaven as a place for good souls, while simultaneously showing Adam is just as bad as anyone else in hell not even being subtle about using extermination as oppression rather than population control. I would’ve much rather had him be the “high and mighty above-it-all” type rich people are typically depicted as instead the exact same brand of asshole as hell. It could’ve been such a cool way to distinguish heaven from hell while still being on brand for Vivziepop’s writing.

I do agree on a lot of things, but I believe you should have waited for the full season to release. A show never feels the same if you see only the first half compared to after watching in it’s entirety.

Im going to rant here so just bare with me here. I genuinely getting tired of people on Twitter nitpicking whatever Vivziepop does at all, the most notorious being an account with a Pomni icon (Not saying their name of course.) They have garnered attention by criticizing the show repeatedly, while sure some of it is valid most of it is heavily stupid, the account has great art but 90% of the content is just Vivziepop hate at this point, while sure it's good to criticize shows and creators they have gone straight off into the deep end, the two stupidest being grey skin color and what Vivzie did in the past, along with that they claim that characters who look perfectly fine need redesigns, usually changing them into animals or changing the skin color. Now usually I would question why the POC characters are colored grey, but heres the thing: they are all grey, plus if you look at Helluva Boss the humans have varied skin colors, meaning that if you go to hell your skin color may not match at all, its just the design choice, but lets not focus on that they say, "lets criticize on what Vivziepop liked on Twitter! Oh boy she liked a tweet about bad art that means she's a hypocrite!" At this point a lot of the haters are just trying to stir up drama, and criticize the most smallest of decisions.

The Hazbin Hotel fandom/hate train is literally as bad as the Star Wars nuts. Everyone with legitimate criticisms is called an evil troll (at best) and everyone who likes it for sane reasons gets called a moron (at best). I feel content with hazbin hotel as it stands I won’t have a fully developed opinion until season 1 is complete but so far I’m liking it. Yeah it can be raunchy but It gives like… drunk college students on Halloween type of vibe if that makes sense 😂. But when it gets serious it gets really serious, and there are serious moments in the background of the chaos. IMO, the in seriousness and raunchiness is like Angel Dust… it’s doing that to hide something bigger… something they don’t want us to see yet so they divert the focus. I get I may be looking too far into this but this is just how my brain is making it make sense 😂

i have seen the first 4 episode of hazbin hotel. i do love the show, it's very different than most things i watch, but it's fun to see a hell in a light where no one wants to be there. i can see how all that belong there are crazy and all that survive are monsters mimicking the normal life.

Honestly I’ve never been huge with fandoms and I’m quite new to seeing content from them. And my impression of it all is just a WHOLE lot of drama and lots of debating about lore, i honestly thought fandoms were just people taking shows at base level and making fun little conversations about it but it just seems stressful! Though at the same time it’s so easy to get caught up in and embarrassingly enough it’s brought me to start commenting on videos which is something I never really did before!

The most popular criticism ive seen is that the animation is bad and it’s just not? It’s very good.

I really like the show, except for the musical bits, but that's a personal thing. I actually think Angeldust is WAY more tolerable in the show than the pilot. Vaggie too. Idk all the characters seem more likeable in the Amazon show. Character design of the bartender and radio demon still bug me, but are a little smoother looking in the show.

Angel dusts "reprimand" was EXTREMELY uncomfortable and I loved it. It felt so real and depressing

So basically in this video you described the show doing... character development and plot development. They took characters who were basically just raunchy one liner characters and made them into fleshed out characters through episodes devoted to telling their story archs and in the end when the two most recent episodes released we get to see a jump forward by 5 months and witness how much they've changed by their actions. I also think that Nifty stays the same as a comedic relief for whenwe reach the end of a scene where something emotional happens and they need a character they can fall back onto as a "Haha guys look, it's the funny murder lady doing more murder shenanagins"

Yes to all of this, but especially the part about how the shift from TV shows being entertainment to being identity has not been a welcome one. You bring up a really good point about how much this is facilitated by us knowing the *showrunner's* identity and muddying the waters of liking or disliking a show with endorsing the *showrunner*. I wonder how much of the polarization of shows like these would exist if the exact same show was dropped by a large faceless network instead.

Angel Dust and Charlie are probably my favorite characters so far, but it's really hard for me to choose which one I love more because they're both really great, I honestly like Husk a lot too, I think almost all the characters are pretty great in their own way, except Nifty, I think she just needs a little more to be more interesting she's kinda just "the weird quirky girl that is just there" so far in the show

The character Adam is what almost made not watch the show again, because he reminded me of Chazz from Helluva Boss.

For your last few thoughts, that’s exactly why I really try and distance myself from fandoms of shows I enjoy. People get wayyyy too up in arms about liking/disliking shows and some of the names attached to them. Another thing about Hazbin Hotel is that I feel like it was always meant to be a very niche show, where it checks a lot of boxes for what some people want in adult animation while also being very far from the adult tv standard and thus a bit off putting for others. Not everyone is going to like the music and songs if that isn’t their thing. Not everyone is going to be comfortable with a show set in hell. Not everyone is going to like it and I feel like we need more shows where that’s the point. It’s fine, dare I say good to have a show with a niche audience, and I honestly wish there were more of that in adult animation instead of just trying to appeal to the widest audience possible. I just wish it wouldn’t always lead to such polarizing views that only get amplified online.
