Why Oddballs Is PERFECTLY Boring 

I got the notification saying "Oddballs is PERFECT..." So i thought he was going to rant about how good it was, and then I saw the "LY Boring"💀💀

the issue with oddballs is it cant find a middle ground between his youngest audience and his oldest audience...

Honestly; would you still Imagine Rebecca Parham or any other Storytime Characters getting their own Netflix Show be like?

The thing about this show that frustrates me the most is how nothing is coming together. The premise, characters, storyline and environment are all very interesting. If there was more cohesion the show could be something noteworthy enough to talk about. It has all the pieces to the puzzle, but nothing is connected.

Making James a kid in this show doesn't feel like something done to fulfill a vision, but rather a calculated move by executives. They know James's RU-vid audience is comprised mostly of kids, so they probably figured aging his avatar down to be their age would appeal more to them.

There is a formula for almost each episode. James will complain about an extremely minor problem that no one cares about like a brat, James will try to solve it with Max, someone or something will get in their way, and at the end it will be like nothing ever happened.

I *HATE* how Echo treats James in most episodes She always just makes James admit something he doesnt believe in order to get him out of a personal situation *or literal danger*

How to fix this show 1) Have James not be the main character. He feels less like a 3 dimensional character and more like James doing a silly voice. 2) Tone down the randomness and absurdity by 1% and have it be 1% more grounded in reality. They should take notes from American Dad. Those plots get weird but they usually start out normal and the episodes usually have a moral at the end. One of the American Dad writers made this comment. " We once had this joke idea where Roger has sex with an iphone and has an iphone alien baby. We rejected it because it's bad science. We want some level of realism." Oddballs would probably go for that joke.

I feel bad for James, especially after seeing the video explaining how he got rejected for being a youtuber. Maybe if it was like a smaller show without continuity it would be better. The show has very good moments, seeing that it is funny watching clips out of context.

In all honesty, I finished watching the 2nd season a couple days ago and i liked the first season better. but i can understand why a lot of people think that the show is generally terrible and boring.

I've heard that when other people actually did get their chance with Netflix they often quit because Netflix tried to control and remix their ideas to much.

It's honestly tragic that even fans of James can't defend this show other than it's art style :/

We learn about the crew dynamic, see Stolas’ troubled home life, meet Blitzo’s ex girlfriend, meet Millie’s family and an overarching antagonist, get some insight into Moxxie and Blitzo’s deeper insecurities, see some of Stolas’ powers, and get introduced to a major figure not only in Blitzo’s past but also a major player in Hell’s social system. Then, three episodes into season two we get Blitzo and Stolas’ first meeting and their fathers, how Blitzo adopted Loona, a potential friendship arc between Loona and Octavia. Yes there is somewhat of an over arching story but the series is primarily episodic as a whole and it does so much in every single episode.

The problem here isn't really Jame's fault, rather Netflix. If Netflix hadn't tried changing anything, i bet it would have made a good show =^

Odd balls getting a second season is only making me wish the cuphead show got a fourth season.

The main problem with youtuber's getting their own show is that they act nothing like they do on their channel. I mean, there has been a few exceptions like pewdiepie, joey, miranda, and others who made it work. I feel that the series would be a lot better if it centered around the lazy subway worker we all know.

You'd think having a toaster as a main villain would make things interesting. But somehow made it even more dull.

I feel like stuff like this are always mid or bad. Because the main character is the RU-vidr. Just like the Fred movies or that Annoying Orange show. I feel like one of the most basic things you can do is create a show with you as the main character. I feel like James didn't have an idea for a cartoon show, but he was given the opportunity and took it. Which, isn't a bad thing. If I had an opportunity to make my own cartoon show I'd take it! It's just... I was curious about the show but when it was revealed that the main character is basically James but younger, I completely lost interest. I don't like watching a show with the creator of the show as the main character. It's so much harder to detach your show from your RU-vid channel and get a new audience when the show has your RU-vid channel's character as the main character.

I remember watching Oddballs and watching it felt like Deja Vu. I realized this is because everything was so predictable. Once I understood the basic premise I could almost write the entire plot in my head and it would unfold right in front of me. Its so boring.

For me honestly when i 1st saw the Oddballs show i was like " why yes he would make more random shows by his own creativity ". But wow i've been stunned to this point has this totally changed so far thus it still continues for more he's got the guts going, plus thanks for sharing this Alpha Jay Show man

Oddballs is like "The fantastic world of Gumball", but without the unique Characters, the funny jokes and other Stuff. Gumball even has some "Storyline" that comes up from time to time, like the enemy with the magic remote.

Another thing is, this is the first ever show made by a story time animation channel. This means the big mega corporations are watching and wondering if this will work. And determine the standards for other shows made by other story time animators. So if this show is deemed a flop with James, what if Jaiden and Rebecca wanna end up giving it a try? Well, it may make it much harder for them. So this is much bigger than most people know.

I love how much detail you put into these videos, the amount if tv that you have to watch to make this really well researched content must be a lot

Although I haven’t seen the show, this is what I’m getting on this video. It’s hard to make an show adaption to a RU-vid channel, but it is possible. Like The Cuphead Show is an adaption to the game, but it still builds different lore that you wouldn’t know just by playing the game. It can be an alternate universe that has different lore while still maintaining the same personality. I hope there will be a season 4(or season2? Idk) to Cuphead, but anyways Cuphead is an example of cartoon adaptation done right.

Adapting RU-vid channels is pretty hard, that’s why I hope my favorite channels (Glove and Boots and Let Me Explain Studios) stay here on RU-vid

This may be a bit of a stretch, but maybe all of this was from Netflix's corporate meddling. But who knows?

What's sad is this show will probably end up being good in season 3 Why that is sad is because NETFLIX KEEPS CANCELLING CARTOONS AT THEIR SECOND SEASON. So right when this show would be good it's gonna be cancelled

Oddballs season 1 was pretty okay, it was a mixed bag, but ok, the second season was less funny and more annoying, and James got worse and Max somehow got better. Also Echo has nothing to do. Mr McFly is great still, and it’s cool how Toasty is back and can talk. But I think season 1 was a little better

I would argue that just because it's not remarkable in conversation doesn't mean it's boring. if it can bring any form of value to a person's life, then it's good and if it is good, then it's in some form interesting. And it can bring value to people's lives, even if that is just a few minutes of goofyness and comfort.

For once I agree with alphas words I mean I watched all 8 episodes And tbh (sorry James) I was bored It was too kid friendly for my taste Also The last episode "toastys goodbye" it felt very anticlimactic

I thought season 2 was pretty okay. Admittedly there's a lot more they could have done and they probably could have done some things differently on some episodes, but for the most part I think it's good. I still think its pretty cool that James even had a chance at making a show and accomploshed it. It might not be everyone's favorite thing in the world, but that's true with just about every media. You can ask 100 people, and chances are there's only going to be one person that says they like it, and one person that says they hate it. So while I liked the show, I can understand when others say they don't

You know, it was a missed opportunity for James to make it TV-14, then he possibly could have been himself in the show…

The main reason why I was not onboard for oddballs is that sometimes the personality that the content creator is known for is completely gone or at least tone down to not offend anyone. I just wish some shows take a risk and not just always be brand safe.

I think oddballs is a great show especially when compared to other current media.

Tbh. I wish this was a RU-vid cartoon instead. It's good, but it fits in with something like Pencilmation or Talking Tom and Friends.

Besides the golf cart episode, she also talks about preparing for toasty in the "james pretends to be a sub teacher" by saying she needs James' mom lab tools. She also expresses interest in Dirt's missile defence sistem in the "Mas Mayor" episode though she never says why.

I was actually ok with the first season but I hated the gross out humor in the second season so much that I watched like 1.5 episodes then gave up on the show all together

I'll have to say this, maybe James is lucky this show is mid, the animation to this design of the characters are great though but I think James is lucky cause Netflix has a record of canceling their most loved and successful shows so many people loved. And I hope Netflix doesn't screw him over like Netflix has done with a lot of creators

I think theodd1sout wants to do interesting stories, but NETFLIX won't allow him. But if it's not that, and this is the idea he had for the show, then they should hire different writers

honestly, the fact that it's a kids show doesn't excuse it's bad writing and humour, even the character designs doesn't make sense. their mediocre episodes with an annoying protagonist, a guy just there for gags and another extremely annoying character that doesn't bring anything to the table. I had high expectations for this show since I watched theodd1sout for some years now and enjoyed their content but the show is a let down.

I genuinely enjoyed the show a lot, although there *are* parts that definitely are boring But I like James's work and how far he's come, and I'll be supporting him so he does better in the future

James is a very talented writer, but he fares better writting to a more adolescent to young adult audience. His humour often comes about pondering about the small things in life, like wrong phone calls or spiders, akin to a Seinfeld episode, something that those two demographics at the very least can understand. Him writting for kids is like having Tony Hawk in your show but he plays a lawyer, or Quentin Tarantino directing Peppa Pig. These are all talented people but you aren't giving them room to show their skills

Hearing you talk about build really reminds me how Gravity falls had great story progression throughout it's 2 seasons

Season 2 just left me with a ..."That's it?" You watsed my time sort of feeling. My main issue with this series that they don’t properly establish the world. Sure, he mentioned it in the story bible but from the show we just get context clues. A good way to show the setting of the world if James' school is doing a Science fair but UH OH! Looks like the adults are entering too. Which makes it unFAIR! That’s a major disadvantage but the students are determined to get first place. However, all the student struggle on their own but if they put all their minds together maybe just maybbbee they can beat the adults.

To me, the show is good. It's boring sometimes but I like the gags, I like Max's character and I managed to enjoy the show, however there isn't a middle ground between "Infantile" and actually serious plot. But other than that, it's an enjoyable show I'd love to watch as a 12 year old in a summer morning before school.

I wouldn't mind you looking at Bee and Puppycat for a review of the Netflix series and original Frederator uploads on RU-vid

its as if they took NEPTR from adventure time’s debut episode, ran with it as an underlying plot, and made a side character that heavily borrows the color scheme and some of their motivations from bliss from the new ppg series

The only thing i enjoyed in the 2 season was emo toasty i kinda wish they made it more like the first season, we can explore more of the characters and the world , maybe even towns outside of dirt and atleast adress the toasty arc like the first episode of season 2 where they could have atleast have a episode where toasty did make a army of house appliances and everyone in dirt is getting ready do destroy him but james is aggaints it or smth, and they all make up or defeat him and have more wakky andventures. Partners was a great episode and in my opinion echo kinda became rude in the second season i problably made this comment too long lol

Hey, adventure time is an amazing show but it isn’t until season 3 that they actually start to care more about storytelling and not just endless ‘fun-filled filler episodes’.

Lol I thought I would have a good motive to see this show cuz to be honest when my eyes made contact with it the first thing that came in my mind was: "yeaaaaaah nha, doesn't look something I would be invested" but at the same time I though "maybe I should try at least the first episode" (I never finished, it was so "nothing" and it was a weird feeling, I just gave up and went to see saiki kusuo or play mine or anything)

honestly on my opinion oddballs should do something like adventure Time. In adventure Times 2nd season finale, we get a cliffhanger that isn't resolved until season 5. During that time, we see other plot points resolved, like The ice king and Marcelines relationship. It doesn't have to focus on 1 huge plot point, and can try to build up to that point, like James ( who feels more like a supporting character) and max build a smart refrigerator. Also, why does James go to school when He's an ADULT in his own videos?

Seeing James in a Netflix show, is now weird to me :/

At first I would say the show probably is influenced by corporate decisions, but seeing shows like gravity falls, adventure time, Steven universe, it’s clear that’s not the case, either way I still enjoyed the show, but it still could be waaaay better

So a decision in the 1st episode had consequences that were revealed in the finally. If you want to keep the episodic nature. Resolve it in the season 2 premier and have it introduce a new background problem to be solved in season 2 finally. Rinse and repeat. If you want to shake up the setting, make either the finally or the solutions to have some massive ripple effect

Season 2 was pretty much more of the same compared to Season 1. And to be honest, this is probably as far this show can get knowing Netflix and their BS logic.

I did think of something while watching this video, I think their not so plot driven show is both on how used to making one video and not deep diving it further in future animations and possibly some inexperience writers. (no hate to the writers or what they do with the show, this is a simple idea) But I do think that James and his team are trying something it just isn't doing too well

I love the Odd1sOut, I just never thought his show was as interesting... Like, his videos are very entertaining, but I don't understand how they failed at doing the same on his show in Netflix. I think the main issue is that the episodes were too random, not much storyline between said episodes and the humour barely or never landed perfectly as much on his channel. This is my opinion, no hate to James or any of the developers.

When I saw the trailer, it failed to grip me. Then I saw the first episode and I did not want to see more.

@AlphaJayShow I do think this show is like why did this show get green light considering how basic and mid the writing is.

I have a lot to say about the show, but I'll keep it short. James made a video about the shows development and the original idea sounds way more interesting and enjoyable than what we got. Also, James' Avatar is looks really boring compared to all the other characters

perfectly boring is exactly the right thing to call it... this show takes the word generic and truly defines what that means to its fullest... that isn't even me being mean about it, yet... that's just truly what this show is: perfectly boring.. you know, in like the most "i want to see this show succeed" kinda way.. and the worst part is that, i myself could easily fix this show... just looking at it, i can immediately see where the problem lies and how to fix said problem to make it go from a "this thing exist" to a "wow, i can't wait to see what next season has in store for us" inb4: "oh but you're underestimating how hard writing is" no actually... that isn't the problem, and i'm definitely not overestimating my own writing skills either (i know i have tendencies of mediocrity every now and then) but what i can say is that this show just misses that one little element, that is so easy to give it, and could literally fix everything that makes the show a thing that exists, and make it more than that.. because really, i want this show to succeed, but it's just mid and nothing more, nothing less

So basically it's kinda like a Steven Universe or Digimon Ghost Game. It meanders around its narrative with a bunch of episodic filler til the very last episode(s). It seems this becoming an reoccurring issue for a lot of cartoons.
