Yes, it makes a huge difference. If Laura sees a random pottery vessel, that many will overlook, Laura will find another two, create an intetesting collection, and style them with other books, greenery, etc. It gives each piece more meaning and gives people ideas. Great vision. 👍

I am loving this series. A big thank you to Jessie for his "suggestion"...and to you for taking the challenge!! I know you have heard this many times before but the Goodwills in your state are amazing. There are 7 Goodwills in the county I live in and even if you took everything from them and put it all in one store, it would still be lacking by comparison! PS My profile photo here was taken on a visit to Portland 💚, overlooking the International Rose Garden. 🌹

I live in Toronto, in Canada. All of our Goodwill stores went out of business several years ago - bankruptcy. There's not much to replace them - a few rather sad-looking Salvation Army stores. I am completely gobsmacked at the incredible Goodwill stores in Laura's area. They're clean, organized, and the amazing things she finds! My dream is to visit the Pacific Northwest and follow Laura's travels to all the stores, vintage, antique, thrift, flea markets, and drive up and down that beautiful coast. Sigh.

@@maryclaremayo6157 What a great road trip that would be. I can't agree more about the Goodwill Stores in the Pacific Northwest. I live in Sonoma County, CA. and we do have a few local thrift stores that are enjoyable to browse but nothing like those shown in these videos.

The Goodwill stores here in Minneapolis tend to be not worth a stop. Most of them are really messy, filled with broken items and lots of Target store leftovers sold at increasingly higher prices. The best items are now pulled out and sold online. (Boo!) Most of all, they are definitely a for-profit business whose CEO pulls down a hefty salary. We have so many thrift stores here in the Twin Cities and most of them are non-profit. Those are the stores that I donate to and also buy from to create a perfect circle. Yes, Goodwiil supports a charity but with a very small percentage of their profits. I prefer to shop at thrifts whose entire profit goes towards a charitable cause. I do really love your sense of design adventure and our mutual dislike of still-useful items going into landfills.

A while back, you shared how you have a condition that you can’t imagine things. Forgive me for not remembering what it is called. I think it is amazing how you can envision the pieces that you find with other items and even transforming their style just by changing the things around them like you did with the clock. You are an Overcomer. Your love for vintage and style has given you a vision and an ability like no one else has. I think it is BECAUSE of the condition that you have. I am not sure how you do it, but maybe it is because your brain is not cluttered with all of the other things that those of us without your condition are cluttered with. what a gift and talent you have. Your videos are amazing. I love seeing you shop for the items and then styling them. Also, you’re videoing and editing skills are amazing. All your videos are so enjoyable to watch and inspiring to try decorating in different ways and I have learned so much about what to look for when I am out thrifting. I can’t wait for the next video in this series👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😁

@leftcoastrevivals 2 месяца назад
Thank you so much Leslie, you’re so kind to have left this uplifting comment 🥰 It’s called Aphantasia. I really do believe it is a huge contributor to my creativity and you nailed it with the part of my mind not being full of other visuals that get in the way of creating/designing. I can’t speak for what it’s like to visualize, and it’s hard to explain, but for me it’s more of an instinct. I do struggle with larger projects like landscaping 😂 I’m fine with interiors when it’s a full room but I get nervous making big choices like exterior house paint and landscaping. Since I can’t visualize and those are not easy to change 😂 I rely on inspiration photos and apps to display the project for those!

It is interesting to learn about aphantasia. I remember taking my mom shopping in a large fabric store in my city. She walked around and around the store looking for fabric for the pattern she had in her hand. I finally asked her what she was looking for so fruitlessly. She explained that she was looking for the blue and white window pane checked fabric that was on the pattern cover. It was what drew her to the pattern itself and she could not imagine it being made in anything else. I was quite surprised by this but I then understood her dilemma. We found another lovely blue fabric that made her happy and I finished the dress before she went home after her visit.

I’m Australian and our thrift stores (we call the Op Shops) are horrendous. Clothing is sold for more than new price and any goods that are actually worth money are sold on eBay instead of being put out on the shelves. All we are left to sift through is basically rubbish. And these days you are hard pressed to find an op shop that will even take donations. They usually have signs up saying donations not accepted. I had a trailer load of kitchenware, clothing and shoes from a deceased estate (an old friend had passed), the Op Shop refused the donation and told me to take it to the rubbish dump 😢

Hi Laura! I watch you all the time & never noticed this before, but your first stop or 2, it appears you had company in the back (passenger side) traveling/floating from the back to up front past you. Rewatch at these marks . . . @ 8:05, then @ 12:15, and again @ 16:30. Single orbs appeared from the back on the passenger side to up front. Larger ones initially & then smaller. I only saw them from the earlier stops. *** I have sage . . . but I definitely do not smudge enough. I see you have smudge sticks in some of your prop pics. Going on 20 yrs of collecting, 15 years of selling & I/we have seen & experienced a few things 😉😉. Nothing wrong with a "cherished item". I've even experienced an attempted ice cold attachment after having a short black mass run in front of me @ a favorite antique shop. Hubby is my witness. 😊 Sensitive empath here . . . and they seem to "gravitate" to empaths. *** Love that your style & mine are so similar. I'm excited to see what else you find. And the geraniums!! Love them because they remind me of my mom & they're from Italy ! A twofer ❤

Wow, I don't know how you spotted the orbs? Just for fun I went back to rewind and see what you saw. I did see them eventually. I had to rewind a few times and slow down my speed down to see them. I normally watch videos at 1.5, lol. Good spot. 👍😁

I am definitely all in on Team Patina! 😁 And I am honestly impressed with how you styled up that square clock - I have to admit I kind of snort laughed when you picked it up, but you gave it your magic touch! Also - that coverlet was stunning.

I thought it was absolutely brilliant what you did with the 1980s clock. That was some genius level re-imagining of one of the dominant looks of an entire decade. I grew up with that whole "Max Headroom" new wave '80s look and have always felt it wouldn't play well with anything LOL. Nice work changing my mind!

❤So much good stuff & Fab Styling! I have been collecting little orphan studio pottery dishes myself, after suffering bad regrets from leaving an especially good one behind. Happens! Especially liked your layering of plates! Pretty! The bedspread is Epic, love it love it love it. Thank you for the video xo
