After being in Havana and Veradero/Matanzas/Cardenas numerous times over the last decade or so I can tell you it's not the locals you need to watch out for. Yes, there are scammers and hustlers to watch for but as far as items being stolen or altercations it's other tourists that are the issue. There are a lot of Canadians but there are also a lot of British, Swiss, German and Russian (who still think they own the island and everyone on it) tourists who just don't care. If you have something go missing, whether it be your phone, wallet, camera or cash, it probably wasn't a local who took it - it was the "great people" you met at the resort who were watching the table while you stepped away, or came up to your room for a few drinks. The police crack down very heavy on locals and more often than not, they just won't risk it. Only buy cigars at an authorized store, be careful with the water (and ice in your drinks), don't drive in Cuba - just leave that to the locals (legal driving age in Cuba is 19)

Cuba has been on my list of destinations for a few years now. I'm assuming it would probably be best to take a boat or flight from Mexico into Cuba & show a European passport rather than US.
@TravelDroner
@TravelDroner Год назад
You're correct that for travelers from the United States, it's best to enter Cuba via a third country, such as Mexico, as US travel restrictions to Cuba are still in place. However, it's important to note that simply showing a European passport may not be enough to circumvent these restrictions, as US authorities may still have ways of tracking your travel to Cuba.

Is the mail service in Cuba reliable? If Americans mail clothing, medicines and the other things you mentioned would they get to the people? Or would the items be stolen by postal workers and customs people?
@TravelDroner
@TravelDroner 10 месяцев назад
Great question! The reliability of mail service in Cuba can be a complex issue, and it can vary. Generally speaking, the mail system in Cuba has improved over the years, but there can still be delays and inconsistencies. Additionally, the type of items being sent, as well as how they are packaged and declared, can impact whether or not they make it to their final destination as intended. Regarding the possibility of theft, while no mail system in the world is 100% foolproof, instances of mail theft within the Cuban postal system are generally not widespread, based on reports. However, it's always good to be cautious. If you're sending valuable items like medicine, send them through more secure means or trusted organizations specializing in such deliveries to Cuba. Customs regulations are also crucial to keep in mind. Certain items may be subject to inspection, fees, or even confiscation if they don't comply with Cuban regulations. Therefore, if you're considering sending clothing, medicines, or other items, it's essential to familiarize yourself with the Cuban customs rules and consult with a professional shipping service experienced in sending parcels to Cuba. I hope this answers your question! Thanks for watching and commenting on the video.

@TravelDroner
@TravelDroner Год назад
@@joc-3.0.5 Thank you for your follow-up question! Before you visit Cuba, there are a few things you should consider: Visa and Documentation: Check with your country's Cuban embassy or consulate to see what type of visa or documentation you need to enter Cuba. Cuba has specific requirements for visitors from different countries, so it's important to do your research in advance. Currency: Cuba has two official currencies, the Cuban Peso (CUP) and Moneda Libremente Convertible (MLC) MLCs are mostly reserved for Cuban residents. As a traveler, you won’t likely need it. You can still get a pre-paid MLC card and buy things in these MLC stores in dollars. It's important to familiarize yourself with the exchange rates and know which currency to use for different types of transactions. Accommodation: There are many different types of accommodation options in Cuba, from hotels to private homes (known as "casas particulares"). Research and book your accommodation in advance, especially during the peak travel season. Transportation: Cuba has various transportation options, including taxis, buses, and car rentals. It's important to research your transportation options and plan ahead for any travel within the country. Cultural and Social Norms: As mentioned in my video, Cuba has unique cultural and social norms that you should be aware of before visiting. This includes things like tipping, greetings, and respecting local customs. By taking the time to research and plan ahead, you can ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience in Cuba. I hope this information is helpful to you, and I wish you a wonderful trip to Cuba!

It's important to note that every travel destination has its own unique challenges and precautions, and our intention was to equip travelers with information to help avoid potential pitfalls and make their visit as enjoyable and safe as possible. Cuba is actually considered to be one of the safest countries for tourists in the Caribbean. Violent crime is rare, and tourists are usually well-respected by locals. Our video aimed not to discourage travelers but to help them navigate certain aspects of Cuban culture, customs, and regulations that might be different from what they're used to. Of course, as with any travel, it's important to stay aware of your surroundings, follow local laws and customs, and take precautions where necessary. Ofcourse nobody talk about this.Such a picky government. i would say if your up to the neck in the shit do not be picky! We have visited Cuba on many occasion> Tourist guides and people are saying there is an embargo since Kennedy so therefore cubans they boycott the US. But how come most of Cuban tourisme and income are in US dollar? Oh we boycott US but not US dollar.What a hypocritical shit. We wish the best for the country. We come from a communist regime. Having food on the table and working hard or having freedom by national heroes whom ruined the country and are dead. they declared under the pretext of freedom and the nation is starving is very very low .

Thank you for sharing your insights. Indeed, the situation with currency and tipping in Cuba can be quite complex and is not often discussed. The issue with coins and damaged bills is a real challenge for travelers. Regarding the use of the U.S. dollar, it's an interesting paradox. Despite the longstanding embargo, the dollar has become a significant part of the Cuban economy, particularly in tourism, a vital income source. This creates a unique economic scenario where the dollar is both essential and contentious. Your perspective, especially from a background with similar challenges, adds valuable depth to the discussion. These issues are nuanced and often difficult to navigate. We all hope for the best for the people of Cuba and for improvements that lead to a better standard of living. Thanks again for your thoughtful comment and for adding to the conversation.
