Seeing all these things happen to other drivers and you realize how careful Jack was over the years, paying attention to all the details, and it's all on video too.

I was a driver in the 1970s. In that time I drove 40ft flats 45ft tanker and truck and trailer tankers double tanks and 27ft high cube vans. I ran west coast and 11 western states. Rigs I drove were COE and conventional IH Pete KW Freightliner and even a Dodge COE. Did some team driving but mostly by myself. Mostly non sleeper spent many a night sleeping over the doghouse. These trucks none had Automatics they were 13 or 15 speed roadranger or 4 and 4 / 4and 3/ 5 and 3. Some were 2 axle and the others were 3. Sometimes I ran 3 logs and have had to drive for as long as 72 hours. 72 hours was maybe 3 times but 24 plus was not rare. Back then I had to drive full time for one company but couldn’t get enough time to make a living so I would drive casual for one or two other companies. That would make long hours. I might be home 9 hours out of a week. I loved driving but back then it was way different and so I went back to the metal trades. Made way more money worked way less hours and was home every night with the wife and kids. I like the COE cabs best.

I'm a driver that has been retired many years now, but I can remember spending many a night in a rest area, highway on-ramp shoulder, or a business parking lot …. is that not allowed any more??? It wasn't necessary to find a "Truck Stop" every night. Of course, I still remember PAPER LOGS …. heh .. heh .. heh. :)

Hey Jack, I live in Huntington Park, CA and the only free Truck Parking near us is in our neighbor Vernon California there is a MCDONALD'S @3737 South Soto St,Vernon,CA 90058 they offer 12 parking spots for Semi Trucks. I hope it helps out and always helping a fellow trucker.

I'll bet I know what happened. He Googled it just like you did and found those two that you found that just happened to have the word "stop" in their description and then that was it... his mind was made up. As far as he was concerned those were truck stops and you as an experienced trucker knew they were not. So now sadly that driver has a mark against his record that he shouldn't have. Oh that is so aggravating!!!!!!!

I never deliver or pick up in California again. Cause there is no truck stops. They say there is but lack of parking space. I found a good spot. Slept for like 3 hours. Until a worker banged on my door said I gotta move. I was like why. He said I can only park for a few hours. Lucky I had 2 hours to drive. By the time the 10 hour was closing I found a spot. And an officer was like ??? I explained why I had to park here. I said I can't drive. Will either get handcuffs or move. So I moved and went over driving limit. Dispatcher called I rejected the csll. Got to a parking lot at a mall. Where there was trucks. Called dispatcher who switches me to manager I said my story and they knew the California issues. I said sorry but I had to find a spot. Hope u win that case Jack. And I like sitting low like ur boss does.

Poor truck. So unfair that rigs always get hit in the parking lot. There should be a lot more understanding for the lack of proper parking for 18 wheelers. Awesome looking on the silver/chrome Pete.

Thanks for the video. When I saw the damage and then that there was a code - my first thought was that it was the outdoor temperature sensor, but then I saw that it did show the temperature so it could unfortunately be something more expensive. When you first said "Ontario" I was a bit confused since I thought Canada... If there aren't any truck stops between LA and Ontario Canada, then it's definitely time to quit trucking.

The OR officer was probably referring to the tiny little "truck stops" that show up around Rancho and Riverside that are basically fuel stops with maybe 3 or 4 slots for trucks. They're a joke and fill up around noon.

I hate dealing with LE &/or Courthouse Gang who just don't care at all about people, Only there get there 20 or 30 in. System is so screwed up, You tear somebody's TK up you fix it back as it was period. Insurance is biggest legal scam in USA. Like Monthly Highway Robbery without the mask..

I was hoping Jack would treat us for breakfast but a cookie will have to do... Hey Jack how about calling May Trucking Company in Salem Oregon and speak to your counterpart as to how to appeal OSP’s final determination. They’ll know how to appeal the decision, the ins and outs of Oregon law and the likelihood of success. They may even have an attorney contact who deals with the issue. Good Luck!!

For as many times as I've gone into Southern California, there's a few things I've learned. 1) On street parking for semi's is few and far in between. They hate semi's parking on the streets. 2) Traffic in general is horrendous regardless unless it's between 11 PM- to roughly 4 AM. 3) I've essentially learned that if you've got a delivery and a pick up in the same day in so cal, you better have a full 11 and 14 because of traffic. At minimum, 7 hours driving with at least 2-3 hrs sitting to kill.

Jack - How about having some of your drivers provide photographic evidence. If the officer involved is just looking at a computer as you showed, that may not be sufficient. Have folks go to those locations and photo them. I reviewed the maps/photos for the places that list themselves as truck stops in that area. It seems they are CAT scales or fueling stops, not full fledged park/sleep/shower/eat truck stops. If the officer didn't dig deeper after you lodged your appeal, he simply did not dig deeply enough. So, get the pics and with what is already on the computer, I'd appeal it again if I were you. Go up the chain and ask his supervisor to review this matter. Let us know what happens.

Did the driver get to the receiver with only say 30 minutes left on his clock? Would he still be able to use Personnel Conveyance legally if he knows it would take them several hours to unload?

Hi Jack, there is a place called ATS truck parking in LA. However its about an hour from Huntington Park. Roughly the same to Ontario. It is a long term parking but does offer 10 hrs for 20 bucks. No washrooms , no restaurants but does have 24 hr fenced security. They do have porta potties and allow food deliveries escorted right to your truck.

You know you're down south when you see billboards advertising pecans!!! I love it. 1/2 South Carolina girl.

As for the damage to the Red Volvo, wouldn't it be cheaper to replace the complete hood assembly than to try & patch a fender and repaint to match? Trucker Josh had a similar situation a number of years ago with his Freightliner in which he hit a Moose with right side, bending the bumper be into the right fender and Insurance Co. determined it was cheaper to replace the complete hood, rather than patch the fiberglass fender into the hood & repaint.?

There is a cat scale in Montebello off I-5 and some parking there. Never parked there but have weighed many loads there. Also not sure if over night parking is allowed there but I assume it is.

Well , I seen cops writing drivers tickets for take there break on shoulder at rest areas in Virginia. What are drivers to do when hours are up . No matter how you plan a trip you can’t tell the future. ie traffic jams weather Accidents . Full truck stops and so on . Just shut down where you run out of hours ?

You can prove YOUR case-can the Cop prove he knows of a Truck Stop,as he SAID? I'd ask to take it to COURT. If the Cop can't show the Judge a Truck Stop big enough to offer parking,the Judge would have to rule the Driver had no option but to drive to Ontario,and you could ask the Judge to have the Driver's record cleared and have the Cop pay the Court fees.

Did he get the ticket for having run out his click? If he using personal conveyance, how can the ticket stick?

California has a lot of truck parking You guys just make everything look difficult when it’s so simple. you guys make a turn and make it look difficult

There is legal overnight parking at a McDonalds in east LA, which is between HP and Ontario ;) There is also legal street parking in numerous areas. A driver should never rely on a truck stop for a break. Part of the job is being creative and problem solving, along with planning ahead for a situation like this. Cheers

The elimination of truck stops and where trucks can go in the cities is why I quit driving line I now only drive and a couple of counties in northern Cal and that's it. The last time I got a ticket in California to the officer told me you were in California you have no rights.

Have you tried to get ahold of a lawyer. I’ve fought a similar issue in court and they took it off my record as long as I just paid the fine. I was happy to do so.

Another interesting angle of Trucking. Law Enforcement will Never (or very, very, Rarely) Ever Admit when they’re Wrong! They automatically think they are King and everyone else is a Criminal and how dare you attempt to Waste their time any longer Appealing their Obvious Mistake. The State Police are grossly underpaid and that in itself gives them an unfair reason to strong arm everyone them come into contact with. It is obvious they Hate Truckers and will be more than happy to take every opportunity to blackball a Trucker and eventually his livelihood. Very Sad!

It’s interesting to see this side of things. I’ve always said that driving is the easy part of trucking. I wouldn’t want the stress of the office...plus I have a better view. Lol

I expressed your drivers situation on another truckers vlog and they stated your defense is in the FAQ section of the Federal Carrier Safety Regulations. Your driver should've been ok to use PC to drive to a safe haven as long as he took the required 10 hr break after. Did he screw up and try to combined the PC and break time? I hope you post a follow up video.

its true i live in commers only place i can think of is union pacific next to the 99c commers. but there is no place besides Ontario. I work for swift only thing to do is to be team drivers out there somtimes form longbach to Jurpavally it can take up to 3hrs

Hey Jack, why does he have to stay at a truck stop? I know you always did but plenty of drivers just pull over where ever they can. Was there no where he could of done that?

Always an uphill battle challenging the Man!

You can take the police officer to civil court and argue your case in front of a Judge without a lawyer, appeal it if you loose then get a lawyer, or sue your insurance company for not holding up their end of the bargain if you feel they are at fault, and insure to lock in your rates so they don't sky rocket if you win the case.
