The bags look like something I would use for a painting project. Like a sleepover/birthday party project. “Paint your own bag!” And you use it to take home whatever goodie bag you get.
This is literally like that one we bear bare episode were the bears are OBSESSED with tote bags because they think theyre "saving the nature" but if the trend stop, they should do what the bears did in the end of the episode, where they give it to the local beavears to stop the flood so they can build there nest!
That show was warning us all even from way back when. I mean, when I first watched that episode, gosh almost 6 or 7 years ago now, I was like no way would anyone become this obsessed with owning multiple versions of a literal tote bag - an item so worthless and not even one of a kind. It was absolutely ridiculous to me, but here we are anyways. Got people thinking that possessing mutiples of the same thing is an aspirational personality trait
these trends are getting old too fast, and then when it's out of style, they waste it by throwing it away. it's sad how people have no regards for the environment.
i hate it so much. im scared to get rid of my old plushies and blankets that i dont need anymore because i want to find something else to do with them other than throw them away, like donating them or something. im trying my best to keep my new plushies in good condition as well to be able to donate them in the future. even when i use plastic straws, i use them for *months* before throwing them away. i wash and reuse them until i cant anymore. i know with the way things are right now i cant exactly completely not contribute to pollution as bad as that sounds, but i do at least TRY to not be wasteful.
It's not just them throwing them away, these companies make more. The manufacturing takes raw material, the factories pollute, and the transportation to get the bags from the factories to the distribution centers and then to the stores involve ships, trains, and trucks. If they're not made overseas, then the ships aren't needed, but they probably are.
I feel like these are the same people that will preach about being more environmentally friendly whilst simultaneously participating in these consumer trends. I admittedly don't care about the environment as much but I try my best to be smart about my purchases by doing my research and making thorough evaluations on whether or not I truly want it. And when it comes to clothes, that article will have to be on its literal last thread before I throw it away.
I think it’s the “Trader Joe’s” logo, as some people see it as the hip (or hipster) place to buy groceries. We don’t even have that store in the state I live in!
They are ugly. Like bags you throw junk in and keep in the back of your trunk. Use it for outdoors activities where you don’t care if it gets dirty. Storage bags. Definitely not something I’m wearing out with a decent outfit.
@@cybergutzthey have ones that have prints, one is decorated like it is a jar of pickles and another I like looks like sardines. These tote bags are actually quite plain. Trader Joe’s has a lot of cute reusable bags, I have the pickle one and it’s my fave.
WTF is wrong with people?! Its amazing to me that there are people out there pissing away $1000 on a set of 4 $2.99 bags while other people, such as myself, don't even make that much a month and can't afford basic necessities. The job market is horrible, so try as many of us might, making a living is little more than a fantasy right now. Sure must be nice to blow money on crap you'll throw out once it's not in style. What an absolute waste!
Same here!! If there IS something trendy that I'd like to get, I just wait til all the hype is over and the item people went bat shit crazy for is all on sale!! 😂😅
@@rubyblue444 Yes, exactly! On the very rare occasion that I've wanted something trendy, I've either waited till the hype is over or I've been gifted the item by like my mom or my Aunt because they knew I secretly wanted it.
@@rubyblue444I am doing this with Stanley Cups right now. Lol, when the Stanley craze happened, it made me not even want to get one. Now I have a chance 🎉
Microtrends like the Stanley cup and now the mini tote bag are being used trying to substitute the genuine emotional connection and social belonging that many of these people crave. It lasts a few weeks at most, then the thing isn’t trendy anymore and they’re back to being lonely. So they hop onto a new microtrend and the cycle repeats
I cannot believe this. I literally swore ‘You gotta be kidding me-“ under my breath. I have this theory that in this day and age, people are so in need to be the top of a trend. That is gotten so bad that one person can just claim something, and it will instantly go viral. We are literally searching for SOMETHING to become viral, so we can gain validation. That we can be someone special. Those resellers too man. They’re crazy, no shame with those people.
I MAKE BETTER CONTENT THAN THIS. I'm a 30+ year old media creator with aspergers syndrome who is a jack of all trades with a passion for fighting against cyberbullying. I've been doing these kinds of things for over 10 years and I've picked up a whole set of different skills along the way,,,

This is why I wasn't that happy when the cup obsession was over, because it was clear they were just going to substitute it with some other obsession, yet another micro-trend.

I think the reason or at least partly why this is happening is because people are more alone than ever and they want meaningful relationships but either don't want to put in the effort to form them or just don't have the time so when these "trends" pop up they hop on them to give themselves a sense of community. Maybe that's why they move on so fast, once everything is sold out or most people bought it they find something else to keep the feeling going, that's my theory anyway.
It was sur it would happen however the Stanley cup proved itself to be a "durable" product that can survive a fire so you get it why some people wanted it. Now....what do they want with a simple bag ....?
Yall I think We Bare Bears predicted this…. Remember that episode were the bears bought to many tote bags because of “Tote Life” That’s how this feels right now
Tote bags are an amazing entry level sewing project (even hand sewing)! Its funny to see ppl fighting over the availability of the different colors, when you can literally make ur own bag from two colors of duck canvas from the craft store and choose whatever accent color you want. The bag is extremely cute not gonna lie, but its also so easy to make.
They're buying it for the brand name not the bag itself. Same thing with the Stanley cups, they were buying it for the brand not the actual cup itself..
@LoveFatBirdsI’m hoarding yarn. lol currently making a bunch of baskets and cozies to use the yarn I’ve had for two years and dunno what to make with them (didn’t like the texture of the yarn so they’re not fit as a wearable project)
5:06 Ok see, this is my issue. Why the hell are people using the grocery bags when purses and satchels exist??? LIKE C'MON NOW 😭 (EDIT: OML THANK Y'ALL FOR THE LIKES 💜)
Because: -things can Break and spill -totes are easier to clean or wipe down -a purse or satchel is not made for carrying huge amounts of groceries, so -it can lead to breakage, ripping or tearing your purse faster if you stuff it like a Thanksgiving turkey
Because re usable bags are designed for groceries😂 wtf 😂 Are you going to carry around six plus purses? Be normal and carry reusable shopping bags like regular people, this trend is dumb
$2.99 is alright for a bag, but trying to sell them on Ebay for a thousand dollars? People be losing their blasted minds. I've been pining after a Chobits figurine for nearly 5 years, my husband for our anniversary finally bought it for me brand new for $350 bucks (a steal by today's market). I can just imagine his face had I told him I spent $1,000 on a Trader Joe's 3 dollar tote bag. He would murder me. Do these people hate money? If they have so much and need 100 Stanley cups and 200 tote bags, is the economy really that bad? What the hell is going on? Holy shit the U.S. is completely phucked.
It makes me fear for the future for both me and the environment (thanks science class). But apart from that, congrats on getting the chobits figure! I'm surprised you got it at such a steal too! I've been sniping both a Mononoke figure and a Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei figure, but both of them are sadly out of my reach for the moment ;;

@@dieselbabyyeah it’s most likely that these listings will never be sold, unless someone makes an offer for way less money and the seller realizes that’s the best they can get because no one is stupid enough to spend 1000$ on tote bags you could get for 12$.
When I needed a reusable tote bag, I just used the one that came packed with my air mattress. It's way more durable than anything you can buy for groceries since it's made for wilderness durability.
These people need hobbies. Real hobbies, that take time and energy. Like caring for a garden or something. This isn't like building up a... a stamp collection, ya know? This is just wildly out of control consumerism by people who've forgotten how to engage with real life without being bored by anything that isn't an adrenaline rush.
I only buy tote bags both for function (chiller bags because of cold goods) and seasonal reasons (one supermarket has really cute seasonal ones, especially for Easter and Christmas), but since they’re designed for reuse, I’ll stick to reusing them for their intentional purpose. North America is really sinking into the pits in terms of trends like this.
Whole Europe wearing tote bags, and they use it for all purposes possible. Why should it be a problem that it's not used for groceries? I think it makes more sense to put groceries in... well... a backpack?🤔
What has happened to the world?!? I guess the world can’t be saved, from Yetis to Stanleys to Trader Joe’s tote bags. Like, I have been using my Luna Lovegood tote bag with a quote (I’m a mega Potterhead) for almost two years, and I’m perfectly fine!!!
Thank God atleast not in my part of the world. Life's kinda slow paced in here, and people are either too poor or too unaware of the trends to give 2 fks

Stanley Cups are ugly, too - well, I find them ugly. The tote bag is just a tote bag. Okay for $3 if you have a few items you've shopped and no other bag to carry them home. But definitely nothing to obsess over. Some people are weird.
It is probably the "blindly follow[ing] trends to fit in with popular culture" ordeal, even back with fads about raccoon hats way back; in a demand system, it's all about attention and so every train wreck that causes gawking is made of gold. It's how those with a fortune are fortunate, a matter of funneling, enough people spamming attention and gold at once for temporary prosperity while most others are overlooked.
Damnit, I have a coon skin cap because I had one as a kid. Please tell me the “trend” you refer to is when the hats were popular during the fur trapping trade, and not anytime recently? I’m going to be upset if my stupid hat is suddenly a trend
You know I was bullied by my peers for a vast majority of my school years because I was different and didn't follow trends, I'm now glad that I don't follow trends because this just shows that I am the normal one in the end. Don't get me wrong the bags are cute and I would like to have all four colors because I'm a collector but I ain't waiting in line for a bag like it's the Call of Duty midnight release back in the 360 era. Just go to the Dollar Tree and buy their mini tote bags in the art supply section, if my memory is serving me correctly it's the same thing just minus the colors and logo. Get fabric paint to add color if you want color.
people would use the thing for anything BUT for its point i bougth a shopping bag, great thing.. but why people in US would kill for a random over hyped item?
I live in Russia and I've seen people fighting over clothes at the second hand shops.. so this problem is everywhere, no matter how expensive or popular those things are :")
I'll be honest, sometimes I use the reusable bags I keep in my car as a purse when my outfit doesn't have pockets lol. I don't even think it's cute, just practical in a pinch. So busting down your local TJ's door for these bags is insane to me. And I certainly don't understand collecting them like Pokémon or buying them from a reseller for any price upwards of $2.99 😭
I sometimes use reusable/tote bags to carry certain items when I’m going to a museum, the zoo, beach, or other places. I use them to hold a sweater/sweatshirt, my camera, a doll or two if I bring them to take pics (I collect dolls and like taking them to tourist places, etc.
3:08 ikr 😭 these mini totes are so tiny, probably not every brand of bread will fit in!! and the big ones are RIGHT THERE and so colourful, too! If I need to pull out a tote, that's because I can see that my backpack won't be enough, which usually means "I've fit the Hard Boxes And Containers in, but those Light And Easily Squished things are still all out and plentiful" WHY are they so obsessed with the TINY ones.. they are not even aesthetically pleasing..
UHM BUT !!!!!!!!!!!! There should be SOMEONE who started this craze !!!!!!!!!! LIKE WTF ITS NOT SOMETHING WHAT HAPPENS OUTTA NOWHERE like who on earth is this influencer
It’s a popular souvenir item in Asia for if you vacation in USA but most can’t afford that so ppl in USA reselling them do they can get bag if they can’t afford a vacation to USA
@@ElinWinblad Seeing all the asian people scrambling for them in the video I somehow just knew it must be some stupid americaboo trend started in china or somewhere, where the trader joes bag is "cool" to have. That explains the middle aged asian guy grabbing a handful. Probably for his younger relatives, so they can be "trendy" back home
For years, my mum has acquired a small collection of trader joe bags because she wants one from each state (she has under, 10, we live in australia). Those bags have a unique state specific design, whereas these ones are just plain white. why are these even popular? at least the state specific ones have cool designs.
See, that’s wholesome and cute. Getting one unique thing from every state you visit sounds like something fun, and always comes with memories and a story behind it.
We do our weekly shopping at Trader Joe’s, but I’ve had a sprained foot and have been getting grocery delivery the last two weeks. Thank God I missed this insanity in ours! Yeah, everyone and their mother has a huge stash of reusable bags they’ve collected over the years. We get free promotional ones and sometimes I get them as a gift bag, so I have NEVER felt the need to buy a reusable bag! I don’t know if it’s just me, but these bags aren’t even cute, just a basic canvas bag that you can literally get anywhere. I worry about what social media is doing to society sometimes.
I found these super cute knitted totes with a bunch of extra handles and I at least thought it'd be something like that. Wow the standard mini shopping bag
I think is the "feat in with pop culture" option, as i saw in a Film Theory video, all the ways people use to connect to one on other (like religion, patriotism, etc.) are despair and now people are more desperate to have something in common with others (idk if I wrote that right I'm spanish, plus, this is only speculation)
I think you're on the right path. People are using these trends because they're lonely and don't have another way of connecting with others, the trends make them feel like they're part of a community.
I literally use the same tote bags from Cotton On that I bought when I was 13 (I'm about to turn 18). One time the straps on the bags broke, and you know what I did? Stitched them up so I could keep reusing them because that's what they're meant for
There's always got to be something to become like Beanie Babies for the Boomers back in the 90's; I think there was even a divorce court case in which the husband & wife sorted through their collection of hyped stuffed animals in front of the judge. It's an "investment".
You would think people would learn from said Beanie Baby failure, since there's literally only 5 or so with any actual value, but when you look at the state of how were globally regressing as a species, I can't say I'm surprised. Just horribly sad and disappointed.
Now imagine this happening with any other place... "Lining up at Woolies at an ungodly hour of the morning for their bag drop!" Do these people not have anything better to do with their time 🤦 (Also, I genuinely feel bad for any normal person in the store during all this, must've felt like some cult behaviour)
This reminds me of the Rae Dunn craze a few years ago at Home Goods/Marshalls/Tjmaxx. They were outside of the store every day before opening for several years. They would hang out in the store for hours and peek in the backroom and wait for them to roll out the cart. There were fights and major upselling of it. Now I see it at thrift stores everywhere 😂. Have you ever seen a bunch of middle aged women arguing over mugs, canisters and birdhouses? I have 😬
I got the cutest reusable dang near indestructible tote bags that have things like cactus wrens on them but my mom found them and you have to buy them online. I really don’t understand these quick trends with bonkers reselling when there are super cute really tough bags that take like 4 clicks to buy online. I should add my daughter(21)uses the bags I bought as a purse.
I feel like collecting tons of REUSABLE grocery bags is kind of ironic. Like the Stanley cup being a reusable cup. They should exist to reduce waste and instead people hoard them as a trend and they get cast aside creating more waste
Trader Joe’s bag is really a popular item in Asia and I think people are reselling it to overseas people who can’t afford to go on vacation to USA to get one as a souvenir
If its one thing i can count on when i wake up every day, its a new Haylo Hayley upload and it's always some outlandish shit 😂 its become my morning routine
I have a REALLY super niche thing. Its a tshirt. From a local radio station. For a hour station exclusive that was done by teens. Which now no longer exists. No more than a 100 of these were printed. I have NEVER seen another being worn and i live in the area of the station. So yeah. I think im good Trader Joes. I have something that money literally can not buy.
The fact that overconsumption is just so... normalised is strange. It's a reusable bag, the whole point is to buy one or two and use them for future shopping trips.
We won against the stanely cups, but at what cost? It's a bag, what the hell is so special about it?? It's a Trader Joe's bag, I've never been to Trader Joe's, but come on, it's like if everyone crowded up just to get an Aldi bag and didn't use it, and also "TrAdEr JoEs BaG hAs A cHaLlAnGe!!" No, YOU have a challenge! The bag never chose this "war", also on 4:15 , how does a PS5 AND A NINTENDO SWITCH COST LESS THEN SOME STUPID BAG FROM A RESELL ONLINE!?!?! 5:08 I agree with, like, WHY ARE THEY GETTING BAGS IF THEY DON'T NEED IT!! these people have nothing better to do to be honest, this is the Stanley cup craze all over again, and also 7:04 , going to 4 TRADER JOE'S FOR EACH COLOR OF A BAG!?!? WHAT???
Why do people seem to need multiple things that wont even be popular later? They only get said items to join in on the trend. Not its relevance. I find that plain stupid.
Oh my god I swear that when there was the stanley cup craze i told my brother "what's next?? Reusable bags?" It was funny then. It isn't now. This says a lot about what mindless trends do to people and how easily influenced they get
The thing is alluding to things being limited editions, or there for a limited time only, isn't a new thing. It's been happening forever, people these days are just so obsessed with feeling trendy and special that they'd rather spend all day looking for a bag or cup that's trendy than actually do something for themselves cause picking up a new hobby in adulthood is considered "cringe" now. People forget that unless you're in school and/or surrounded by jerks that NO ONE is going to care about what water bottle you use, bag you carry, or sunscreen you use. (I remember the super goop obsession, it still scares me how sunscreen was a trend you should protect ur skin regardless of what's popular on skincare pages). No one's going to care if you're wearing Lululemon or your local supermarket brand. I genuinely think these adults that are participating in the chaos are still stuck in their high school years and have forgotten that in real life these material things don't matter. What matters is what you do with your life not what you have.
The question in here 'why don't they want the full sized bags?' is how I feel about it... or when I see smaller reusable bags in stores... I live in california where you have to bring your own bags or pay for them and you better believe I'm choosing the big versions
