We can say it is easy to walk away with 800k, since the vast majority of us would never see that amount of money ever in life. But from Franklin's perspective, with all the things he did and went through to get that 73 million, walking away with just 800k is unfathomable.

It wasn't just ego and feelings. Franklin was delusional and dealing with actual mental illness by the end. Even after Veronique left him, Franklin could have still sold the Spring Street property and recouped at least a couple or few million. Letting that property go into foreclosure was just plain crazy. Even crazier was the fact that on probably the exact same day the bank was foreclosing on the Spring Street property, Franklin killed three people in Monrovia trying to recover funds from the crackhead (Peaches) who had robbed him a year earlier.

@@Saint0999 They tried to do too much in the finale. I didn't have a problem with Franklin's outcome, but instead with how they got there. They fleshed out every other storyline in season 6 and then glossed over whatever was going on with Franklin to the point that some of his actions seemed out of character and bizarre to the audience. In addition, two essential scenes were missing. They should have had Cissy speak her truth about why she shot Teddy at the exact moment she did, maybe in her conversation with Leon. They could have had Havemeyer reveal what was really going on at that park, maybe in a conversation with another colleague at the CIA. The storylines with the DEA and the KGB basically went up and smoke at the end, and some of that could have been cut earlier in season 6 to give us what we needed in the finale.

Honestly speaking I'm a huge fan of Franklin but when you think of the things that he had done, from taking the elderly couple's library and selling it, to kicking people out of the shelter to find his father. He really did deserve his end. Plus the series had given us all of the possible consequences of being in the drug game. Death= Jerome, Life on the run = Louie, Poverty = Franklin, Prison = Cissy and Redemption by leaving your life to be a better person= Leon.

So I rewatched the entire show again.. money doesn’t change us, it just makes us more of what we already are. Franklin always thought Leon and everyone was beneath him. Remember the book Leon asked him to read and he never touched? Franklin was already on a high horse and had no sense of responsibility.. which were the traits that made him wealthy. The fact that Franklin thought he could just walk away from this game after everyone told him you can’t just exit this game.. shows how Franklin always thought he was untouchable. He was like this from the beginning Edit: this is also a scene when Franklin is joking about Leon saving money in a shoe box, which is irnonic because if Franklin did stash money in an “old school” manner he wouldn’t have been left with nothing
@Watermelon_Man

It’s ironic because it was actually his overestimation of/higher expectations for Teddy that began his downfall. He believed Teddy to be a man of integrity and thought they had a mutual respect. Teddy took advantage of that and showed Franklin that he saw him the way Franklin saw everyone else.

Franklin was truly a product of his environment to an almost text book level, AVI once told him that what makes Franklin special is that fact he has the choice to be anything he wants, i believe this is largely due to the vast variety of positive and negative influences in his life, Franklin was empty plot of land ready to be built upon, truly multifaceted and very talented individual, everyone loved Franklin, believed in Franklin and respected Franklin, but unfortunately everyone saw the Strength and potential in Franklin Saint but Franklin himself - You would think that more than any other character in this show, Franklin himself would have the ability to reform and come back from rock bottom yet he was the only character in the show that couldn't, Leon, Cissy, Oso, Jerome, Skully, Alton and Wanda all escaped but Franklin wasn't able too, which I think is the deepest and best plot point for me.

@darkswaggboss9059 that may be your interpretation of it but their circumstances were ultimately made worse by Franklin, when Franklin had to make sacrifeces, he sacrificed the people closest to him, and 1 by 1 they left him - you may be forgetting that every single person in Franklins life had a part in making him into the person he became, stop looking at Franklin as a person and more like an investment becausebthats truly what he was - and the proof in this theory is that, once everyone started to leave whether they died or otherwise his situation only got worse, Franklin was the Ship and the people around him were his crew, with no crew to sail a ship, it wont stay a float - Greed and Entitlement destroyed him and it didnt have too, his family told him countless times to leave whilst he was ahead and he did not listen - but they say absolute power corrupts absolutely and its Tragic because Franklin had it all but didnt see it until he lost it

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think what a lot of people dismiss about Franklin is that he’s incredibly young, he’s roughly 19-23 between seasons. To expect him to be this mastermind, seasoned kingpin with all these contingencies for hard times is giving him wayyyyy too much credit. If someone steals $73M dollars from you any sane man will go insane and do everything in there power to get that money back and go after the person who stole it from you. Franklin tried to leave the game but everyone around him fucked him and kept putting him down in the end he lost it and had to pursue the only thing that mattered most to him money. Louie is another person who caused the downfall of Franklin she had everything money, power, respect but still that wasn’t enough she wanted the ultimate power and wanted to become Franklin, she never acknowledged she has all this because of Franklin and she betrays him by going behind his back to Teddy. The question is if you was Franklin and you get robbed of $73M dollars are you going to forget everything and live you’re life when you have the motherfucker tied up and his willing to give you $37M dollars I don’t think you are, Franklin’s mom and Leon are telling him to stop and reassure him but they weren’t in his position they didn’t lose everything he worked for. Franklin did what he had to and in the process he lost everything and became the one thing he didn’t want to be his father, an alcoholic, non existent to society but saying that if the people around him we’re loyal and didn’t fuck him the downfall would’ve never happened imo.

Keeping tens of millions of illegal money *in banks* was foolish, as was repatriating that money to build a whole skyscraper in downtown LA. In addition, Franklin failed to take heed to what happened to Grady, and Franklin also should have had multiple stash locations with various confidants knowing about certain ones in particular and only Franklin knowing about all of them. Teddy screwed up too. How do you steal someone's $73 million and don't leave town? When Teddy told Franklin during the torture session that he thought he could live with the consequences, Teddy revealed his own naivete about what the consequences could be. After Franklin failed to recover his money from Teddy, it was time for Franklin to regroup. Even after Veronique took Franklin's $800k, Franklin still had the option of selling the Spring Street property and recouping some of the more than $10 million he had invested in that project. Letting their property go into foreclosure was way deeper than alcoholism. Franklin was both delusional and crazy by that point. Even crazier was that Franklin killed three people in Monrovia trying to get money back from a crackhead who robbed him probably a year earlier on the exact day (give or take a day) the bank was foreclosing on the Spring Street property.

In my opinion, Franklin’s pride and arrogance ultimately was his hubris. Granted Louie played a part as a catalyst in certain situations but ultimately she wanted her autonomy just like Franklin; but because he thought he was smarter than everyone and trusted the wrong ppl essentially, he caused his great demise. He also underestimated too many ppl, Leon included. Definitely a cautionary tale about excess and greed. Great documentary.

She wanted "autonomy" because she wanted to take what Franklin already had and attempt to expand it into other major cities. Doubling or even tripling the money for herself. Franklin was in too deep to let that happen. Plus, Louie was not Franklin, she eventually would've got used and rolled over by Teddy and anybody else. Obviously Franklin made a lot of terrible decisions and ultimately deserved his fate, at least on a karmaic level. From a business standpoint though, Franklin never f*cked anyone that didn’t deserve it. So, let’s not pretend that everyone but Leon, Oso and Jerome didn’t betray him at one point or another. My point being, if everyone just shut up and did what Franklin said, there’s a much higher chance all of the characters in the show would be alive and wealthy instead of dead or in jail with their “pride”

Here's what everyone either forget to pay attention to or didn't carefully watched this particular episode that I'm gonna say right now. Season 5 Episode 7. @Tes7000

Yes, so many people forgot that Teddy put the wheels in motion to take Franklin's money before Franklin told Teddy he was leaving the game and before Louis approached Teddy about taking over as distributor. Teddy took all of Franklin's money to kill the Spring Street project and because Teddy never intended to let Franklin ride off into the sunset with that $73 million. Franklin didn't take heed to what happened to Grady and ended up with almost the same outcome. It was CIA standard operating procedures for mules who stepped out of line or outlived their usefulness -- screw or eliminate the mule, and seize their assets.

Yessir. Teddy wanted to eliminate Franklin since the Alton-Irene Abe debacle. It probably was one of his main reasons for keeping tabs on LA during his exile. Then when he got shot by Kane's crew that was the final straw. The scene you mentioned is a slight detail that most people miss in even in the rewatches. Luckily for me, I've watched this show over almost ten times lol! Teddy was going to burn Franklin regardless. The series of events between episode 8-10 in season 5, including Franklin threatening to kill him just sped up the process.

Having grown up around poverty I am extremely sympathetic towards Franklin becoming the monster he became. When you got nothing and claw yourself to the top and usually through horrible means. You bleed for it and bleed others for it. You give up on your morality and live with constant cognative dissonance it distorts you. Once you taste the power and respect money gives you it is hard to not get addicted to it, reason for it when you have fuck all and people treat you like a second class citizen you grow resentment towards them and then you have it all they come to you because you are now the powerful one, the rich one and the one who can make things happen. When you are in a lifestyle that Franklin was the gangster ones loyalty becomes the most valuable currency because one person can end it all and it's even more so the case when most of your criminal associates are your blood relatives, childhood friends and inlaws. Betrayal from those will sting so deep because they know fully what you and themselves been through to get there and this is how many real life underworld feuds start and in some cultures become generational blood feuds within parts of a family or between two connected families. I honestly loved this show and the dynamic of Franklin and Leon since it is very realistic. I can't fully relate to it since I am not African American however so much resonates with poor people all over the world, I've seen this play out and see it play out today with a new generation of drugs and drug dealers. Quite tragic if I am being completely honest however it is bound to happen over and over again until we can find it in ourselves to not treat those who are less wealthy or fortunate than us lessers but as equals.

To me, a filmmaker/actor/artist, the details you’ve shone light on in this video and the previous Dark Psychology of Franklin, make my point even clearer that nothing good comes out of rushing, and if I want to be impactful in any way, I must continue to focus on the road less traveled (by that I mean continuing to learn, instead of looking for the “easy way”

If he would’ve taken his L, he would’ve left with 800k, his mom, his girl and kid. Instead he lost all that and he’s a alcoholic bum.

Franklin could have also probably recouped at least a few million from the Spring Street property. Franklin had invested at least $10 million in that property before he lost it in the foreclosure.

this is the greatest show i can’t find myself to finish. i’ve been drip feeding myself episodes since the final season’s release. i’ve seen how franklin ends up and in most, if not all ways, deserves the ending he got but it still hurts seeing this downward spiral. amazing show, and great video.

Damn Jerome...they got you 😢 that had me tearing up. This last season really hurt my feelings. I was wanting everyone to win but I know it usually doesn't work out that way. Sad that this was the last season. Best show I've seen in a long time.
