New theory: Ra's spirit now lives in the sword alongside Drach'nyen. Every time Abaddon is about to succeed, Ra's soul subtly sabotages him. This is why Abaddon is such a joke.
The only custodian he told all his plans for humanity to such a tragic fate i hope in the future they explain how abbadon took drach'nyen from this legendary Golden jailer.
I'm sure in book 3 of the black legion series it will be covered as the 2nd book ended just after the black legion escaped the eye during the first crusade.
He became a winged dragon (some say golden chicken) and was summoned by a Prosperan sorcerer playing a children's card game. All the heretics he defeated were banished to the Realm of Ultramar.
@@ldavidtw2000 A wind up kitten, which also beat that nerd Tzeentch. There is just one opponent I fear would be too much for him, but the chances of facing him are so hilariously low as to be funny, hahahaha...... [BAZINGA] (Still very sad GW made Alfabusa quit making such an amazing series)
Ra actually accomplished his mission, he has so far kept Drachnyen from reuniting with the forces of chaos. Sure abbadon has him, but he just uses him as a fancy sword for the most part. Instead of Drachnyen being free and actively trying to end the imperium where he can get the most done, he gets leaned up against abbadons throne and occasionally swung at something.
@@heartlessnobody1143 Abbadon is 40k version of Thanquol. He survives not because of his plot armour, but because he is so incompetent in comparison to his potential successors that every other faction tries it's hardest to keep him as the main leader of Chaos, because that minimizes the damage.
Custodes are so fucking cool. Like astartes are bad ass and primarchs are dope but the fact the Big E keeps a whole fucking pack of these monsters around is just something else. Imagine being a baseline human and seeing legendary spacemarines getting clapped and then one single custodes rocks up and turns the tide of a whole battle, and then you are lucky enough to find out there are tons of them out there.
What’s even more amazing is they aren’t just bloodthirsty butchers, they’re warrior poets. They’re steeped in all the highest culture of humanity, they represent the peak of human potential.
Ironic how the destroyer of empires was felled by the sun god of Terra’s first major empire. As if the gods of the ages before even the age of Terra wanted their revenge.
@@CountingStars333 There are people that believe that North Korea is the cradle of humanity, not _because_ they are North Korean, but because that's what they have been told is the truth. To most of the _world_ , not just Europe, Egypt is one of the first major empires, because it *is* one of them, it is just not *the* first, and that was all you had say. To be honest, China is a fair bit younger than the New Kingdom, the Shang Dynasty, which was the first Empire on a par with Egypt was around 1600BCE, whereas Egypt were building pyramids about a 1000 years before that. Now, whilst there IS evidence of construction from 10,000 years ago in China, that information is from sources that are very difficult to verify independently, and almost certainly don't fit into the 'major empire' bracket. Politics is absolutely playing a role when China talks about archaeology, age is equated wisdom in many countries, so increasing age increases perceived wisdom. Indus valley was not a major empire, even though it is older than Egypt, though Sumeria certainly is older *and* a major Empire, so yes, you are correct there. Basically, I'd be _very_ careful about being certain regarding the age of empires, and I'd be even _more_ careful when assuming what people know based on where they are...
I was actually making a Thousand Son's Loyalist Successor Chapter called "The Children of Endymion" Since his name is Ra and the Thousand Sons have a Egyptian type Motif.
I don't think Abaddon could beat Ra even after drinking all the chaos kool-aid. I hope Ra went out in a way more badass way and Abaddon just picked up the sword later.
I think Ra would've gone down fighting against a tide of demons, before finally even the legendary powers of a custodes would fail him and he would be forced to fall by abbadon's hands, in addition to daemonic corruption running rampant through his body.
@@scorpiowarrior7841 They could play it like that, just says got it off a golden guy abadon could've embellished it and that guy could've been a long dead corpse.
I'd rather Abbadon finds the blade in Ra's corpse other than beating him in a fight then taking it . I genuinely believe Ra is one of those individuals who would eat Abbadon for breakfast anytime .
I mean, he would undoubtedly wipe the floor with Abba`s ass easily under normal circumstances. But by the time they met Ra was running around the Webway impaled and somewhat posessed for probably millenia, definitely not seeing a lot of food, water, proper sleep and gear maintenance. It wouldn`t be an impossible fight for Abbadon.
@@iddqd-bp5yq if Abby does kill Ra, I will settle for nothing less than a book detailing that of an insanely long duel where Abby nearly dies several times.
@@forspartaaa2348 so I can't remember the official name for it right now, but basically it was a member of the Mechanicum who had a map of the known webway downloaded to their consciousness, then were uploaded into a giant OP robot that was able to handle fighting multiple knights.
@@KaiserAfini I personally would love Ra to return in the current setting along with Valdor (the king in yellow). The other Custode protag in this book was also really cool
I wonder why that so impactful in the realms of chaos that it spawned that powerful a daemon it's not even close to the first murder in the grand scheme of 40K
Whatever people say about emperor, i still really respects him. He could've taken his custodes, malcador and some human samples, flew out of galaxy and wait for big reset. He could've created normal humans and repopulate easily. But he didn't. He stayed there, fought and didn't let humanity to die out even though he knew he gonna become a vegetable. Yes some his decision was bad but he had the responsibility and burden no human could carry, plus not enough time. He sacrificed his beloved custodians and many things he loved.
In his own hubris to try and cause the entire human race to turn atheist he led to Lorgar’s descent. After that, the Horus Heresy and his entombing upon the Golden Throne only to become a religious icon. Yet despite it all, he has suffered for 10,000 years to try and guide humanity despite it being so easily to quit.
my problem with the emperor is more a problem with the writters, hes clearly imperfect, but some of his mistakes are really stupid, how he treated angron for example, he wasnt too pragmatic, or too emotional, he was just straight up stupid with makes no sense
I’d like to imagine that by the time that Ra is found by Abbadon, he’s like Artorias of the Abyss. All of the time spent fighting through the Webway and the horrific blade that he’s made to contain has been destroying him until he’s nothing more than a raging beast, but still maintaining his fierce loyalty to the Emperor.
Within less then 10 minutes of your video coming out nearly 2k people have already come to see your amazing content because we love your work and your videos "keep up the amazing work you Aussie gronk"
"I got it off a golden guardian." Ah, you mean you found Ra's unmoving corpse and pulled the sword out of it. Because I don't believe for a second that Abbadon could kill Ra.
Why not? Abby is literally superior to pre corruption Horus, just as how Luther as able to fight on par with the lion, the things Chaos dose to a mother fucker especially if they prove themselves worthy. Hell Ra wasn’t even the most powerful custodian he was literally mid what makes him cool is how we told That he is an avrage custodian that is only special because of his humanity and determination that others lack. That is why he was beloved by the emperor. Him losing to Abby after wandering for a thousand years let alone 10 is a forgon confusion. Hell the eyes of the emperor kinda prove that custodians don’t last for ever and get slowed by time.
“The Archimandrite was an avatar of the Unmaker God a fusion of Hieronyma's brain with a weaponised chassis similar to that of a Domitar Class Robot created with forbidden lore from the Hexarchion Vaults. It included clawed feet, fists capable of crushing power armour with flamers in the wrists and shoulder-mounted Volkite and Avenger Bolt cannons. One hand also mounted a double-barrelled energy weapon that produced fusion beams, a rare gift from Arkhan Land”
Sorry I was wrong, he is pretty bad sass but still my point stands. Even unarmed and armored a primarc can kill most custodies. And Abby is confirmed to be Physically Horuses equal if not superior.
@@dennisbatye1932Abaddon was struck by a fatal blow from 1,000 year old Sigismund post-heresy and only survived through warp fuckery, and one of the greatest Custodes is surely a match for Sigismund
I like to think that after stabbing Ra with the sword and giving him his final order, the Emperor would take a moment for quiet contemplation with the dead and dying all around him and the destruction of his hopes and dreams for humanity he would watch as Ra disapeared into the webway and he would think......RUN FORREST RUN!!!!!!!!!
Genuinely did not know about this character or narrative. Thank you for this information! The FW custodes captain model might be a good representation of Ra.
Off screen death, so he could come back. Abbadon's victory is at hand, moments away from destroying the golden throne... "Thanks for holding on to that for me while I finally took a power nap..." Abbadon turns in terror...
Dude, that Macharius mini is one of the greatest minis I’ve ever seen. The text on the sword, the different choices between a living Saint statue or an actual character, the details in it all, fantastic work.
Master of Mankind is one of my favourite novels, ADB set up the ending so well with Ra and his conversations with the Emperor. Will definitely be re-reading that some day soon
@@donmongoose Best reading experience in my opinion is: Horus Rising-Flight of the Eisenstein, Fulgrim, A Thousand Sons, then Master of Mankind. I read those in that order when I started the series and highly recommend it, the novels flow seamlessly like that and make it feel satisfyingly intertwined. There’s obviously other novels like the Mechanicum one you can read for backstory before Master of Mankind, but going from Magnus’ fall straight to that really made me feel the weight of the consequences of his actions.
@@kieranmcccccc995 Yeah that certainly sounds like it would make sense. I just read them in the order they came out in then randomly go back and read which ever. I think Legion is probably the one I've read the most, absolutely love that book.
@@donmongoose Legion is a masterpiece. I think, for me, nothing will ever top the subtle dread and tragic fall of the Luna Wolves in the first trilogy. But man, I finished Legion within a couple weeks because it was so incredible from start to finish I just couldn’t put it down.
@@kieranmcccccc995 True, I was almost disapointed that the series changed focus after the triology, the books all worked together so well despite being different authors. Didn't help I wanted to hit my head with a brick to forget reading Battle for the Abyss
I’ve heard a theory that drach’nyen is sort of humanity’s Khain. It found out that if humanity were to die so would it so it “helps” the imperium, resulting in the only black crusade to succeed being the one that revives Guilliman. Probably not true but still interesting
My theory is that The Emperor "Reprogrammed" Drach'nyen, perhaps imbuing it with a part of himself so that should it return to The Emperor he would get power boosted. And I believe Ra, or his spirit, purposefully guided Abaddon to it because last I remember Abaddon had to fight through hordes of daemons that really seemed to not want him to have it. And then Abaddon kept failing in those crusades all those times almost as if Chaos didn't want him to succeed (He's never ascended to Daemonhood despite doing so much even though others have ascended from less). But recent lore makes me more doubtful but I at least thought my idea was cool.
I kinda hope we get a video on "how would the Heresy have gone had Magnus not destroyed the Web Way project". I know it totally fucked the defense of Terra, but did it also totally change the time tables on the Traitor Legions invasion as well?
Not quite, except for himself and his own legion…imagine him being the second most powerful psyker in the Imperium, what happens if he remains loyal? Even if the traitors attack Terra a) Big E doesn’t have to sit on the golden throne all the time b) Malcador doesn’t need to sacrifice himself c) Magnus could’ve watched over the webway after Horus had been beaten But then again, to say “what if x happened, then y would be the ultimate consequence” is pretty arrogant, bc you don’t know whether Magnus fascination with the warp and his psychic powers might’ve led him to be corrupted later and shattering the webway later when mankind relied on it heavily. So nobody could say…
@@alexanderruckheim3870 i think the heresy just could not have happened if Magnus never ruined the web way, or not in that way and moment. BUT, you said something really true and clever. He was fascinated by the warp, so maybe during his "quarter" on the golden throne to survey and power up the web way, Tzeench could have spoke to him directly to the ear and grow more fascination to the warp and chaos, and corrupt him little by little. But also, the emperor would not have been really far or he probably would have sensed it, or at least some chaotic vibrations arround Magnus and sort that out himself, probably by cutting Magnus in two and taking the full time job. So many things that could have been sorted and avoided by a proper education and no secrets for Magnus, because he is the 2nd most powerfull psyker of the imperium, and psyker's powers are tied to the warp, inevitably he would sooner or later found out about the existence of the chaos gods and everything. If the emperor took the time to learn him what he knew, and treat him as equal in front of warp knowledge... so many bad things could have been avoided, and inflicted to the chaos gods themselves.
@@seijurohikko6382 Horus would’ve still betrayed the Emperor and since he’s the most charismatic and beloved by his brothers I reckon he’d have corrupted a lot of the other primarchs. You are right though about the Emperor. He could’ve been more open to his sons about Chaos and the fuckery of the Chaos gods. However the fact that he didn’t just goes to show that the Big E himself is flawed. But I believe even if he did, Horus, Perturabo, Fulgrim, Lorgar, Alpharius, Conrad and Mortarion would’ve still definitely rebelled, Angron most likely too. Magnus joined the traitors after Horus manipulated Leman Russ into burning Prospero. If Leman would not have been tricked, it could’ve been a different story. Another example is Alpharius, he seems an enigma to most. However he hated Guilliman and Guilliman is favoured by the Emperor and since Horus was the only one among the Primarchs to take an interest in Alpharius, Alpharius had no choice but to follow Horus. Here’s the thing though, and that was my main point. To say „what if“ is so misguided, bc apart from the immediate consequences we don’t know what could have happened further down the road. Like you said Tzeentch might’ve still corrupted Magnus, or another Chaos God could’ve gotten into any other primarchs head. Every Primarch has flaws to be capitalised on. That is what makes it so damn hard to predict, what would happen. I love WH40k lore cause it’s so damn close to our reality.. the way in which the characters act is an exact mirror of us human beings…no matter that they’ve been endowed with supernatural abilities. And that makes it so great in my eyes as it is, so no reason for what ifs
The emperor in his infinite wisdom: 'Mh. I have a sword in my hand that can permanently kill demons. Okay, maybe it won't work against this one cause he's weird. So I'd better come up with something. Oh I know, I'll transform him into an object so he can't break free. But what kind of object? A cube? A sphere? A rock? No, no, it has to be kewl. I know, I'll transform him into a sword so that when Chaos comes around and finds him, they'll have a really OP weapon to add to their plot armour. I'm such a genius. No wonder all my plans work so well.'
It's more likely that the emperor bound it to the closest object he could get his hands on, which was a sword. Makes the most sense since there was a whole war happening in the webway at the time.
@@drkittyphd6205 yeah, binding it to something would have been one thing (even then I'd prefer a demonic handguard over a sword) but he literally chose the shape. To be fair, the Emperor is pretty much a colossal galactic fuck-up if you've noticed. Literally all of his plans went badly.
This reminds me of the grey knight with the evil sword and he sits alone telling the sword “no” and or “shut up” as if he’s close to others it could try to corrupt them
Drach'nyen didnt "Turn" Ra Drach'nyen even says in master of mankind "All the stars of the galaxy will die and wink from existence before a Single Golden one would turn from their master" Refering to the Custodes So yeah, No

That was one of my favorite 40k books. I loved the insight into the Emperor with the flashback to his childhood in ancient Samaria. I wish there were more 40k books like this.
That image....the emperor coming as the rising sun and allowing the souls of the fallen to reinforce his chosen custodes is a beautiful sight to imagine.....

Yo major. Can you do a video on drach’nyen please? I’ve heard about him but can’t find any info on him. And I trust that you’re a lot better at research than I am
Of the like 100 30k/40k books I've read or listened to, Master of Mankind is by far one of if not my favorite book of the entire Horus Heresy series, the moment The Emperor makes his appearance in the Webway the book goes from absolutely fucking perfect and amazing too pure giga Chad god status. So glad you covered Ra finally.
Ra and Valdor are such under rated characters cause of the Primarch's during the Heresy Era. Would love to get a Unification Wars series so we see more of Malcador, Valdor, Ra and the Thunder Warriors as well the early Astartes.
I actually love the "Master of Mankinds" book, but I think most of us will as it allows us to actually see an converse with the Emperor, which is to few an far between. Also where's my plushy MK, its needed in my Van to cruise around😭😭
i’ve only ever heard offhand about a custodian being stabbed by a demon sword and the running into the warp, but holy crap i didn’t know this was the story this is actually really cool
Just finished "Master of Mankind." Also, just watched this video (I know, slow down.) Holy hell that book was fantastic. One of my most enjoyed entries in quite sometime.
bro Ra would be a great dark souls boss. imagine wandering somwhere magical like the webways and suddenly out of nowhere from the eternal fog, a giant golden knight comes marching with a big demon sword impaled in him. and then he stops and just looks at you. then he attacks you because he can not risk it that somebody will take the sword. and he would do everything in absoulte quiet because his eternal quest goes on since thosands of years, with the sword impaled in him he lost his soul but he never forgot his duty to the emperor! his existence has become the duty of guarding the sword even if his soul died after thousands of years wandering alone and forgotten in time in the webway. woud be fucking epic to see this in a dark souls.
Man you should do a whole video on the book Master of mankind it’s so good an answers a lot of question an issues people have about big E prior to the lore dumps in siege series
I always assumed the emperor named his custodes after gods to disassociate the name from a god and reassociate the name as someone who serves the emperor. like an extra defense against religions creating gods in the warp.
I just had a thought. If Ra ends up being corrupted/enslaved or otherwise turned evil, he could possibly be the King in Yellow. I know currently the most likely identity for the King is Valdor, but I still think its a fun theory.
I want a book or serise on RA trying to resist the demon sword and keep it from chaos till abandon claims it…either cause ra Did finally corrupt or abandon kills him
