i am Brazilian, most of the things you said are on point, for young kids from the favelas football is the only way they have to make it out the hood and growing up in poverty, financial literacy isn't a priority, that's why most brazilian players have a bad time after their careers, sometimes even when they still play, they can't manage their own income, overspend on parties, friends that don't have any consideration for them, women and booze, when they go to europe and get high wages it's all over for them, i live in the UK and every time i tell someone that i am Brazilian "RONALDINHO" is the first thing i hear (before bunda 😂😂) but unfortunately bad decisions are the only reason the Brazilian National Team isn't the best anymore, the day we see a Brazilian with CR7 work ethic and lack of injuries it's over.

I loved Ronaldinho but am glad I know a bit more about Brazil than those people who know the country just for footballers. The telenovelas of Globo, bossa nova classics, the legendary neighbourhoods of Rio de Janeiro... I really miss the old telenovelas of late 1990s-early 2000s.

The Nike adverts the skills videos online just everything about him I don't think we've ever seen anyone have as much impact on the world as Ronaldinho despite it being for a lot less time due to his prime being around 4 years long compared to Messi and Ronaldos which were a lot longer

It's kinda sad that a lot of Brazilian footballers are one of the most inspirational & idolized players of all time, But always have a bad downfall or end up on a bad note. Another big example would be Ronaldo Rivaldo. If it wasn't for that injury imagine how his legacy would hold up today.

He was class his whole career...from 2001-2013 12 years of consistently being incredible and even when he went back to Brazil he made the other players look stupid, he put weight on but still looked amazing on the ball. Age happens to everyone but Ronaldinho is still probably one of the best players ever, his creativity, trickery there won't be a player like him again. A career lasting nearly 20 years is a long one. @@Vizehthank you for saying that! Europeans don't seem to understand that for South Americans and people from the southern hemisphere, Europe is a very harsh, cold environment - in all sense of the term (people, climate). We are used to having warm weather and natural sunlight all year, to live in the northern hemisphere with its 3-4 months of darkness is a traumatic experience (just like a Swede or Englishman won't enjoy 3-4 months under 30 degrees and 85% humidity). It's freaking depressing not to be able to enjoy time outdoors. For those that don't understand I recommended reading the words of Rai and Romario about their arrival in Europe in January - and they actually succeeded in Europe. The family thing is key as well. Europeans when they say "family" mean only parents and siblings, they are not used to a social life with extended kin.

I just want to point out that, while it is the case for the overwhelming majority of Brazilian players, Ronaldinho didn't grow up in poverty. His older brother Assis was a football player at Gremio. And a good one. So he had a good financial situation. It was true that they came from poverty as a family but the situation was far better at Dinho's time. On that note, here in Brazil is well known that Ronaldinho is the Naive one, had he been protect as mention from a very young age, and the real shady one is his brother. He is the one managing Ronaldinho's carerre since the star and responsible for all the decisions. The situation in Paraguay was his arrangement and, the worst part is that you don't even need a passport to enter Paraguay as a Brazilian. Kind of a similar situation happens with Neymar. Neymar Sr was a professional football player and manages neymar's career since he was a child.

When Ronaldinho said he will not watch Brazil ganes because they will not win the copa america he was absolutely correct: Brazil lost their soul. Modt of the team left Brazil soo early they are playing like Europeans. South American football requires guts, and perseverance. In the qualifiers for the WC and lastest friendlies Brazil is playing wayy to delicate, there is a lot of diving, and they are too involce into European politics that do not apply to US. When you look at Uruguay playing peak Bielsaball, Argentina being Argentina, and Colombia not loosing a game in almost 3 years, yes Brazil's probability of winning are just not that good.

@Vizeh A lot of Argnetinian players are in Europe. That's true, but they are mostly staying in Argentina a bit longer and often going up in the younger national teams. So you have two pillars of Argentinian football phylosophy: Bilardismo (wining at all cost), and attractive football. Another thing is that srgentina is producing a lot of good coaches. The majority of national team coaches in South America are Argentinain. So a lot of work is invested on the youth levels, on creating a winning mentality. Brazilian coaches are trying to play Brazilian league football with European minded players. It doesn't really fit very well.

When was Dinho the best in the world? He's always been a really entertaining player to watch, but was he ever the best? He does have a ballon d'or so you can say then but is that not because R9 (arguably the best Brazilian player of all time who only has 1 WC less than Pele) struggled with fitness and Premier League Players tend to not be rated as high for the ballon d'or (only 4 premier league players have ever won it)? Zidane, Kaka, young Neymar, young Messi, and young Cristiano Ronaldo all at different points also outshined Dinho. None of that is to say Dinho wasn't world class, but was he ever the best? He can very much be your personal goat and your favorite player of all time, but that's not what I am asking

Dinho is a footballer, not a business man/footballer. He is only smart football wise, anything else, shaky.

Maybe more focus on the rexona post to get the context of his original post shitting on Brazil. Love your stuff but this is silly.

Brazilians are weird when it comes to football. Weird mentality that is. For me Neymar is the biggest waste of potential of all time. Someone who could have been top 5 best players of all time fell so hard. And the biggest parameter that led to that is his mentality, not his football skills. I think his biggest mistake was moving from a romantic cult like club Barcelona to PSG just for the money and to be in the center of attention where he could be the main star of the team when he could have been Barcelona's legend with Messi as his friend and mentor. But it's sad how one of the best players in the world fell into irrelevancy. Last few years its been just constant injuries and parties with a few exceptions. I'm pretty sure out of all PSG matches where he was a part of the club after he joined them he played in about 50% of them which shows how injury prone he is and I think one of the reasons why that happened is because he left Barcelona when he was used to train in their own way and joined PSG that's a radically different club than Barcelona is.

"Brazilians are weird when it comes to football." Europeans would be equally weird if they were forced, for no reason other than money, to transfer across the globe to a different continent with an entirely different climate, culture, cycle of seasons, etc. I had friends in university in Europe who couldn't contemplate spending even 7 days away from their family, let alone 6-12 months. The coldness of the people, the darkness that prevails 3-4 months a year is not something Brazilians or Argentines are used to back home (no wonder they do better in Italy/Spain which have more relatable cultures and weather). Put an Englishman or a Swede under 30 degrees Celsius with 80% degree humidity 3-4 months a year and see what it does to them.

@@oldskoolmusicnostalgia That's not the problem. There are thousands upon thousands of south american players that go to Europe at a younger age and they turn out completely fine. Neymar went to Europe when he was 19 and said that it was his dream. Messi for example is one of the people you are talking about and he doesn't have these problems.

I don't know why some Brazilians never live up to their full potentials. Ronaldinho, Neymar, Robinho.
