Done a dive on your vids today ha. Lucky to have seen them live over a dozen times. Great memories. You'll get a lot of us Canadians here man. Gord and The Hip. It's us.
There are so many more I could have requested, including NOLA is Sinking, but I though ten was a good start (3 a couple of months ago and 7 more now). For NOLA is sinking, I'm thinking of requesting both the studio version and the live "Killer Whale Tank" version.
Thanks for requesting these songs and great choices so far. Killer whale tank is a great version but I don’t think there is a video of it which is disappointing. The westwind version I think is a great demonstration of his stage presence. 👍
This was their sixth studio album. Here's a list of the albums from first to sixth. Tragically Hip, Up To Here, Road Apples, Fully Completely, Day For Night, Trouble at the Henhouse. I'm glad you're listening to them and discovering a band that didn't get the exposure they deserved in the US. Truly CDN music icons for me...along with Rush.
This song (and lots of others) got HEAVY HEAVY radio play when I lived in Buffalo. The Hip did well in the border towns and I saw the The Hip in Buffalo in the hockey area and they drew 12-14000 people. I also saw them Syracuse, NY (2 hours to the east, not a border town) and the 3000 seat venue was about half full... I don't know why. TTH actually opened for Rush, once, in Toronto, in December of 1990!!!!!
It was kind of eerie how there was a shot of the twin towers and then they disappeared quickly. The next frame was still a city shot but the left side is empty where the towers were in the previous frame.
"I don't know what to believe Sometimes I even forget And if it's a lie Terrorists made me say it The beautiful lull The dangerous tug We get to feel small From high up above"
Excellent song, a favourite off of Trouble at the Henhouse which overall is a great album. Cheers Justin, glad your liking The Tragically Hip. Thanks again Todd.
I make a parallel with AC/DC and ZZ Top in the sense that they are very consistent stylistically. You like a few songs, you'll dig them all. This is really a cult band, with a charismatic shaman in Gord. You hear The Hip and you're immediately in the zone. 😮
