I'd like to hear what Jean Chrétien (former Prime Minister of Canada, seated to her Magesty's right) remembers about this event. I'm met him a couple of times and know - both from my experience and those of other lawyers - that he loved to tell a good story!
Hi Rory, I stumbled on your Tragically Hip reactions recently, binged them. I've been a HUGE fan since their Fully Completely Album (the album that slightly broke them to northern states (I'm American - upstate NY). I grew up with the band, and was devastated when Gord Downie passed. In my opinion Gord is on par with Dylan, Young, MItchell as a lyricist. A poet who happens to be a brilliant front man for a brilliant rock band. Love seeing you discover them over the videos you posted. Long live The Hip.
"Bring Out Your Dead" is a brilliant inside-joke reference from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, 1975. This scene from the movie brings a humorous touch to the horror of the plague that turned people against one another, especially at the slightest hint of illness. As Boccaccio puts it in his Introduction to the First Day, "It was not merely a question of one citizen avoiding another, and of people almost invariably neglecting their neighbours and rarely or never visiting their relatives, addressing them only from a distance; this scourge had implanted so great a terror in the hearts of men and women that brothers abandoned brothers, uncles their nephews, sisters their brothers, and in many cases wives deserted their husbands". Gord Downie was an enlightened genius. A century ahead of the rest.
How beautiful was that performance?? BEAUTIFUL!! I HAVE BEEN WATCHING TRAGICALLY HIP ALSO. I LOVE TRAGICALLY HIP LOVE GORD DOWNIE!! AWESOME REACTION RORY ❤ THANK YOU SCOTT FOR THIS AMAZING REQUEST 😊🩷🔥🤘✌️
Hahaha…that was a classic reaction. It almost makes you think that Gord had planned out to do a tame song first, then… I am true to myself, no matter the audience I stand in front of. I’m here for the people.
