Liberater4589 Yeah, Bulgaria did not participate in the war against the Soviet Union unlike Romania, which is probably why they were allowed to keep southern Dobruja.
Suomi, why were the Dodecanese islands ceded to greece and not turkey when turkey owned them before italy took them (italy defied the treaty that they signed with the ottoman to keep them which I learned because of you, thanks Suomi) and when turkey also joined the Allies?
Finland: In a defensive war, but loses territory, acess to Artic Sea/Ocean and pays hundreds of millions Bulgaria: Kinda forced to enter Axis, gets territory Seems logical
Edoz Ssj USSR was a winner in the end so Finland can't take any land from USSR. However,as a defender rather than aggressor, Finland should be given war reparations from other members of the losing axis and maintain its prewar border.
Really? I took this map from the Blank Atlas, after all. I didn't know the exact maritime boundaries myself and since I was running out of time to get this video up, I just decided to use one from the Blank Atlas. Thank you though! I cannot wait to see your video about the Pacific Theater!
☭Suomi★ Most were fine, it was just the map showing Japan at it's height. It was more spherical/ovaloid in form as opposed to ridgy like that. Plus it didn't surround the Solomon Islands, which were mostly held by the Japanese.
☭Suomi★ Yeah, unfortunately I can't 100% guarantee the accuracy of the maps people post. I'm currently re-organizing the maps and removing ones that aren't maps or are horrible inaccurate but I can't constantly moderate.
***** Yeah that makes sense. I've been working on some maps myself lately and I hope to upload most of them after New Years. I'm pretty sure most maps I made are flawless.
One suggestion/correction: it was NOT the Hiroshima-Nagasaki Nukes that convinced Japan to end the war, it was the Soviet invasion of Manchuria. Emperor Hirohito said it himself: "Russia has entered the war, thus it is necessary to study our surrender." For more information/evidence see "Racing the Enemy: Stalin Truman and the Surrender of Japan." Surprised you would make this error Suomi!
No it was the nukes more than anything. The SU declaring war was just the icing on the cake. The U.S. was prepared to use as many nukes as possible to force surrender. Even if they invaded the, U.S. Was prepared to use them tactically. The emperor pretty much saw that this would have led to their extinction so they surrendered. The SU was just icing on the cake
+Aaron Vasquez Well, its both equally. The emporer saw the nukes as the turn, but the army saw the Soviet Union as the turn. Most of Japan's good quality armies were in the South, preparing for America. They hoped that no matter how many bombs were dropped, they would still have enough to bleed out the US. Then suddenly came the USSR, with a whole bunch of troops, enough to take on Japan on its own, and, most importantly, willing to lose as many as it took to win.
Wobbo No, it really was the Soviets. If there's one thing communists hate, it's a figure with a divine mandate ruling over a nation, which is exactly what the Japanese had. Knowing this, Japan decided to cut their losses and surrender to the US instead of wait until the Soviets invaded, to have a chance of keeping their emperor.
Soviet union : yeah poland, im just going to take half of your land, But here take all of germany on your side of the oder and lower preussen while i take the upper preussen, carpanthian rutheria and moldova.. Edit: estonia, latvia, lithuania, karellia, salla, petsamo, the kurill islands and (the rest of that other island west of the kurill islands)
@@chilledmadness9546 nothing is bad with speaking german :P btw the world is fucked up so bad under the rule of usa and the western super powers! i don't see any difference between the germans and the allies or the soviets in this matter!
@@vladimirheleta5665 i still have a point here, the world is not any better, in fact i see everything they blamed hitler for to be achieved by usa and the western powers, they dominate the whole world, and they wage wars more than peace deals, i would rather to live under a dictator that tells me i am gonna enslave u and be honest, than under some democratic leaders that promise me freedom and peace but in fact they enslave me! one is honest yet a dictator, the other is a liar yet acting honest!
RobyTheDino Finland got the luckiest, only had to cede territory to the USSR and pay some reparations. They didn't enter the Soviet Union's sphere of influence.
James Bond I would, but unfortunately I can't yet. I recently signed up for the Blank Atlas but my account hasn't been approved yet. Once EmperorTigerstar approves my account, I'll be able to post my maps there.
Jake W Bulgaria was the only losing power who actually gained territory after the war and the only Axis power who didn't participate in the invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, which was a very clever thing to do.
These land giving back thing was such a mess. Some countries gained what they shouldn't have gained. For example, Poland got really big chunk of land from Germany's territory, while Lithuania didn't got any lands,at all! And even Russia (Soviet Union at that time) got some lands between Poland and Lithuania (1:01 - 1:06)which is not even land connected to Russia. Like, what the hell? Who made these decisions? And it's not even only these countries. As I have read in comments Romania have lost lands from Russia too. Why was that? Who made this peace treaty? Corrupted governments or something?..
the soviet union gained the city of koningsberg from germany which today called kaliningrad and it was connected to the soviet union lithuania was annex by the soviet union and bessarbia was occupied by the soviet union during world war 2
Munky I still don't get it why Lithuania got such a small lands compared to Poland. I mean, should Lithuania had received some lands from Belarus, Ukraine and ect? Even Koningsberg (Kalingrad now) was formely Lithuania's land until Russia started to grow in power in Sibir and Europe. No wonder in current Poland is better life than Lithuania. No shit, they got some big ass land mass. My english is not my primary language so please do take in mind and don't make fun of my mistakes. Oh, and I'm not that great at history so I would like to hear what's your opinion about it and why those lands haven't been added to Lithuania.
Transylvania couldn't even get back to Hungary becouse of the Treaty of Trianon and from the Vienna award so its not gods fate but the jerk Entente then the Allies!
1:16 Little correction: The Saarland wasn’t annexed by West Germany. There was a referendum in the Saarland just like in 1935, wether the people want to unify with Germany or with France. So it wasn’t a military coupe.
Love the video, but noticed one thing that kind of irked me, and don't know if anyone already said this or if you noticed during the video, but: The island of Guam was ceded from Spain to the USA in 1898 following the Spanish-American War in the Treaty of Paris.
So my standards as follows: 1. Winner or Loser 2. Aggressor or Defender 3. Forced to join the allies/axis/Comintern or volunteered or even eager to join (Deliberately or passively) For winners only: 4. Fought bravely to gain more warscore or cowardly surrender (War participation and spirit) 5. Reasonable or Unreasonable Demands; Also the value of war demands and affordability of losing parties. IMO, countries such as Yugoslavia, Greece, Ethiopia, Poland and China have 100% right to make a demand with RECONQUEST CB and ask for money reparations and get losing core provinces back. They won the war as pure defenders. They were not forced to join the allies but actually had early fight. They fought bravely rather than easy surrender. Again, taking lost core territories rather than asking for extra land was COMPLETED JUSTIFIED。 USSR case was more complicated, it fulfills 1,3, 4 completely and had some flaws in 2 and 5. So some of their demands exceed warscores and were unreasonable(divide Korea, ask for Finish soil, force Poland lose land) But it's reasonable for Soviets to recover some of its lost territories post ww1, ask for war reparations and temporary occupation BUT NOT partition and abolishment of Prussia or east Germany. Finland and Bulgaria, as well as Austria and Romania as well as some other nations fulfill 2 and 3. But they still fall in 1. So they should be asked to make certain monetary reparation to winners, but not ceding territories or paying some other unjustified costs. Still , they shouldb't gain anything from this war though they should remain prewar borders. USA and UK they fulfill 1,2,3,4. Still they didn't lose cores, they should act as peace keepers and ask for justified demands but not unjust ones like partitioning Germany and Korea. But they have the right to gain monetary, trade benefits and power projection from occupation. France and Belgium fulfill 1,2,3, not so much for 4 but definitely qualified for 5. Thus, France is justified to take Elsas-Loringen back as a dual French-German core province. But it shouldn't make irritating demands to bankrupt Germany and Italy. Germany/Japan/Italy: They fell short in all 3(5) categories as aggressor, loser and deliberately start the war. Thus, I didn't see any justification for them to ask for demands including Germany unifed with Austria unless allies and both nations approve or Japan determine the fate of Manchuria or Spratly islands.
At 6:13, you mention that Papua New Guinea was returned to the United Kingdom after the war. However, Papua New Guinea was actually ceded to Australia after the war. Papua New Guinea would then become independent in 1975.
Well in theory Finland gained land since it lost the port of Hanko to the soviets in 1940 but it gained controll of it after the war in exchange for the prot of Porkkala.
He means by the Treaty of Trianon it was really unfair Austria get us into the war and we fucked by entente even austria got some land from us when they started the war!
3:51 Ethiopia had been restored to independence back in 1942 already I believe. Italy ceded it's right in 1943, so the Paris treaties only confirmed what already happened.
@@_utahraptor It was still not a good excuse for the Soviets to take land that they obtained from a pact with the Nazis, all pacts with them should have been declared null and void.
5:58 The Diaoyu Islands which the Japanese and Americans referred to as Senkaku, belongs to China since the 1300s, and is currently under Kuomintang control since after 1945. You didn't talk about this dispute between China and Japan.
Correction: Somalia was given back to Italy in 1949 and remained with Italy until 1960 when British and Italian Somaliland joined to form modern Somalia. Yes technically the UN kept watch over Italy in Somalia after giving it back but technically the Italian colonial period didn't really end in 1947 via the treaties.
Cool video the only mistake was that italy wasnt forced to become a republic, people voted for it. Italy even during the it war was a monarchy (wich wasnt voted after the war).
A few small mistakes. Firstly, you misspelt Australia. Secondly, Papua New Guinea was under an Australian League of Nations Mandate. It was not ceded back to the UK, it was owned by the Australian government prior to the war and returned as such at the end. :)
1:15 At this point you do not include the Baltic states in the SU, which can be understood from a certain point of view, but you also include Memel (klapeida) in the Kaliningrad Oblast (Norteast Prussia). The Nazi's took that territory from Lithuania and so it is not included within the German borders of 1937, which were taken as a starting point to all this. I think at this point Memel (Klapeida) should already be included in Lithuania. Great video by the way!
3:39 Tientsin (Tianjin) was never Italian. Before the war some western countries had the right to place a garrison there (one of them was Italy) but the city was a municipality of China. Italy may have surrendered those rights formally to Japan, but this was not a territorial exchange. It was always a municipality of China.
+Hermann Fegelein "stole" is a little bit of an exageration here m8. The Island of Corsica was SOLD to the French by the Republic of Genoa in the late 1700s Savoy and Nice were given up as well during the Italian Unification as a compensation from the French intervention on Sardinian side in the 2nd War of Independence. Ticino has been Swiss territory for centuries, they consider themselves Swiss and that's pretty much it Malta's more complicated, but it has been under non-Italian rule for most of its history and the Italians also failed to occupy it during WWII. The only claims that may have some legitimacy are the Istrians ones, as they had a large Italian speaking population, before they were driven out by Tito soon after the war
+Hermann Fegelein Dunno about you, but i've never seen any of those regions' populations cry to come back to Italy, also because Savoy has ALWAYS been mostly a French speaking region. Ticino was lost centuries ago and nobody has done anything to take it back, why bother now? Why bother now with ANY of the Terre Irredente? It just makes no sense
Jean Derpnald Apologies, I really couldn't change much about it. If I would have made the slides longer then the video wouldn't fit with the music. I already had to extend the music clip to 80% to make it fit on its current speed. If the slides go too fast for you, you can slow down the video manually in the settings bar under the video.
☭Suomi★ I know, right! In my map videos, I pick the music before I actually make the video and then actually create the video in time with the music, so it all fits. It slows me down quite a bit, but I think matching the music with what is on the screen pays off in the end.
I know that noone knows what haooaned to you but you forgot to say about Italy Greece claimed Northern Epirus and the dispute is even on this day but no one remembers it...
Mário S3queira From your tone, it appears you don't like it either. I 100% support freedom of speech, but when people shout all this hateful stuff in the comments, it becomes really annoying and angering. There's a difference between freedom of speech, and being a decent person that doesn't tell people to go to hell when they have a different opinion. (This wasn't directed at you, btw)
Darkov I like hearing different opinions and having arguments, but only with people who understand how to do it or don't call everything that isn't politically correct being racist, nazi, fascist, etc...
I don't see how ww2 treaties were to fix It destroyed germany permenantly forever as was split into two puppet states with removing austria at the same time having a genocide at the east. Not to mention half of europe being under soviets boots and africa staying under foreign occupation, and finally poland getting a very rough treatment after the war by the new soviet elected regime although it was supposed to be in the winner side not to mention the genocide in eastern poland.
"Romania was on the winning side" Not quite Romania turned against the Axis when the Soviets were knocking at their doorstep...but before that they were with the Axis...
To anyone who thinks that East Prussia should be returned to Germany: read Omnipotent Government by Ludwig von Mises. He states that the Prussian annexations during the Partitions were without any justification: it wasn't part of the HRE nor the North German Confederation.
Mert Okatan are you serious? East pressia has been populated by Germans since medieval times, it was called the teutonic order. Learn some history first.
West Prussia, while it had more Poles living in it, was still majority German, outside of the area that intersects with the Historical Region of Wielkopolska (greater Poland) and I'm pretty sure around the city of Torun, outside of that West Prussia, especially Danzig, were German Majority
I know the comment is old, but poland declared war against Bohlsheviks after ww1 and they took Belarus and Ukrainian lands, so in WW2 soviets declared war on poland to take their land back.
