The Slave Trade explained - KS3 History Revision
Between the 16th and 18th centuries, an estimated 12 million slaves were transported from West Africa to the Americas. British traders sailed from ports such as Liverpool, Bristol and Glasgow, to West Africa and exchanged goods such as guns, textiles and rum for slaves. Slaves were then taken across the Atlantic to the Americas were they were sold. The traders then returned to Britain with a cargo of cotton, sugar and tobacco. This was called the triangular trade. Slaves were sold at auctions and put to work on plantations, picking sugar and cotton. British traders made huge profits from the slave trade. In 1837 Parliament abolished slavery in the British Empire.

Your lesson gives the impression that all enslaved people were brought to work on plantations in America, which is far from the truth. Did you know that the White House was built by brilliant architects, engineers, stone masons, and carpenters who were enslaved? This is just one example.
