Hello and welcome to my first ride and review of the new Triumph Street Scrambler 900.
Apologies again for the length but I tried to add everything in again.
Please ask questions and comments below and I will endeavour to answer them all.
One correction: The Pillion pegs CAN be completely removed.
Huge thank you as always to Herts Triumph for allowing me to ride these bikes and to access them early. I really do enjoy riding these bikes and making these reviews in the hope that they help people find their perfect riding partners...
Thanks again for watching!
Until next time: TALLY BALLY HO!

Agree with every word, tried all the others and only got on this last ! what an idiot as I had spent the last 18 years !!! on a Tiger... At 62 now I find that I feel as confident as I did when I was 22...thank you Triumph you will keep me riding for at least another 10 years.....just had my first day out on my bike that I collected yesterday.......

Did my first test ride on this bike on 2-1-2020. Mr. Rambunctious is spot on with his review. I knew within the first mile of my test ride that I had to purchase this bike. So much fun and so easy to ride. A mile wide grin was on my face during my all too brief demo. A BIG thumbs up to Triumph for their effort here! I am going to love cruising (and then some) down all the wonderful roads that surround my hometown in Northern California. Thank you Mr. R for your unabashed enthusiasm for this motorcycle, and for pointing myself towards a bike that I never would have considered before your review.

Thanks for your many reviews, I enjoy all of them. Have fancied a T120 for a while and recently went to test ride one at Bevans Cardiff. Whilst I was waiting a few minutes before setting off I also had a sit on the Street Scrambler, "Have a go on that as well if you like", said Drew, the ever helpful sales guy. So I rode the 120, then the Scrambler, back to back as it were, then returned to the shop and ordered a Scrambler which I'm picking up next week. As you say, there's something about it that makes it really rewarding and fun to ride. Just goes to show that certain bikes have qualities that just don't show up on spec sheets!Keep up the good work.Tally Bally Ho!

Best video thus far on the Street Scrambler. Thanks for putting together a thorough review. I have a 2016 CBR600RR currently that I love riding and am debating adding the Scrambler to my garage. I thought I'd be content with just having the CBR but fell in love with the 2016 Scrambler when I saw it in Colombia, South America of all places. Then Triumph came out with the Street Scrambler which is a perfected version in my mind. I must have it!

Captain Rambunctious It's better to give depth of information in my opinion. I might have to buy one of these if finances are good to me. Next step for me is a Gsxr 600 for track days but I'll definitely go to Phillip McCallen's and have some fun on triumphant machinery. Sounds great.

Got to ride one last week, what an absolute blast. The actual performance far exceeds what you would expect from the data sheet. The clutch and throttle are so light and easy to use with all controls in the right places. Brakes, performance and handling encourage you to give it some and go for it. The standard pipes sound awesome.! Although i found the seat firm its big enough to move around even for a fat bloke like me. Only down side for me is the price. 9,200 for a red one is up there in the Tiger price range. But what a cracking bike to ride, i found myself giggling more than once. :-) Tim

You've hit the mail on the head. Exactly what I was trying to get at... So much more than I expected. It's just SO easy to ride and therefore such a hoot! @CaptainRambunctious
@CaptainRambunctious 7 лет назад
Tim Holt I had the Tiger for 6 months. An excellent bike but I got bored. No character although exceedingly capable. If you can put up with slightly less practicality and versatility, then the Scrambler is a good mix!

Awesome vid Cap, been waiting for this one! I went and tested one on Tuesday, I was smitten. The bike is absolutely amazing! Now we're both pretty Triumph biased so some people like not be as enthusiastic about it as we are but this bike actually is AMAZING! So much so I ordered one on the spot! (in the sexy Khaki obviously). I was like a little kid :D

Great video👍 I was thinking about getting a T120 as a second bike after testing that and the T100; however, more recently I've been admiring the looks of the Scrambler in the showroom and have watched several reviews, all of which have been incredibly positive. I have now decided to test one of these and if it lives up to expectations, will probably place an order. Many thanks for your enthusiastic review. Cheers, Andy
@CaptainRambunctious
@CaptainRambunctious 7 лет назад
Your welcome Andy! Thank you. Yes, the Scrambler is a lot more fun than the T120, and you don't really notice the lack of power unless you are after good roll ons above 80mph... Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! :-)

Nice review Cap. Looks great, sounds great, love it! Want one, particularly for playing a bit off the beaten path. I notice they left Bobbin bosses off the swingarm and with the rear brake placed where it is, it appears centerstand is necessary "option." Damn Triumph STOP IT already! I think you make a great point about power. People get so goofy over it and will hardly ever most of it anyway. Much more fun to feel like your working a bike than lugging some race engine around at 3k rpm on public roads. Your honesty about how much fun it is even compared to your own Thruxton is appreciated and compelling!

One minor quibble: the entire passenger peg assembly can disengage from the frame, not just the pegs. I've got them off on mine and it looks fantastic. I just finished the break-in maintenance and am really giving it a go now!

@Sunesen
@Sunesen 3 года назад
@@n518080 Absolutely. I've had it for about 2 months now and I am loving it. I just looks good, sounds good, rides good and feels good. It's not going to break any acceleration records or speed records, but it has everything it needs to outperform most cars on acceleration and can go well above the speed limit here on freeways. I get mine with some extras, heated grips, the small windshield and the Vance & Hines muffler. The heated grips are the best thing ever. In cold weather, they will save your hands from freezing, even if you are wearing the biggest, thickest gloves. Definitely money well spent. The small windshield takes the worst of the wind when going on the freeway. If I were planning on going on a really long trip with lots of freeway, I might consider getting a bigger aftermarket windshield as the wind can get pretty hectic. The Vance & Hines muffler is great. I initially had a bit of reservations about it, since I loved the look of the two stock exhausts, but the V&H muffler just makes it sound so mean and throaty and since I'm not looking at it myself for 98% of the time anyways, it turn out that I was not as bothered by the switch as I had thought. I only got it because Triumph threw a black friday offer my way where I could get it for 50% off though. Not sure its worth it at full price. Good as it is though, from time to time I find that I kinda miss my previous bike, a Yamaha Diversion '97 sports/touring bike. It had big body panels that took almost all the wind, big luggage racks and a great engine performance. If I were to go for a real touring trip, I would probably rent a touring bike like that for it. Maybe I'll grab a Yamaha Tracer one day as my second bike. XD But as long as its all about going on nice rides, going from A to B and generally just feeling yourself, the Street Scrambler definitely has you covered.

Nice review, thanks for that. What about the heat from the exhaust? Does it heat up too much if you drive stuck in the traffic like in the city center? i live in sicily (italy) where the sun hits hard

I'm afraid that I don't know. I didn't notice it at all on my ride, but I wasn't stationary very long and it wasn't very warm either! It is well protected, but one could assume that you would get some heat... I'm sorry that I can't say any more. I wouldn't want to without having any experience of it in warmer weather... I will ride it again soon though, just for fun, so should be able to report back in warmer weather.

It was fine when I was out of the city, but when filtering and at slower speeds (up to 50 kph or so) I did notice the heat a bit. It wasn't uncomfortable, just noticeable. I imagine it'd be great during the winter.

I have one. And a Thruxton (and a Tiger 800 XCX). I agree it is a much better bike than the previous model, which I thought at the time was the best fun I’d ever had on a motorbike in 45 years of riding. The new one is superb. Thruxton, by the way, is not the R but I still feel is the right one for me. I don’t race, literally or figuratively. I do enjoy riding fast but also relish the challenge of mastering a machine. It was primarily the firmness of the suspension that turned me off the R, plus I didn’t like any of the colours as much as the Green! By the way, the foot peg brackets also come off ( the Scrambler).
@CaptainRambunctious

Just a lovely, entertaining, but realistic review. You are one of the best, Captain! By the way, what are those squiggly lines on your roads? And what is a pram ? Reporting here from Kentucky.
@CaptainRambunctious
@CaptainRambunctious 6 лет назад
Thanks Mike... Squiggly lines? Are they the zig zags at the side of the road? They are no stopping lines near schools and crossings, so that visibility for pedestrians crossing roads is not impaired.. A pram is a trolley with wheels that you put babies lying down in - I believe it's called a stroller in the US... Thanks for watching and apologies on the late reply! TBH!

Great review - nicely done! So many great bikes to choose from these days - I've moved on to my full licence now so want to get something bigger than my current Honda CB300F. I started biking because I wanted one of the old style Triumph Scramblers because they looked so cool. Now having spent 16 months riding and racking up 17,000km I'm wondering if I need something with a bit less "upright" seating, and perhaps a bit more power. Choices, choices, choices!

Thank you captain for yet another lovely film. :-) There's one thing I find quite irritating though. I really must tell you. It's the word "you". When it's used instead of "I". Often in situations when someone is trying to explain something. "The seat is comfy, YOU can ride all day". When it should be "I can ride all day". But that's me, I suppose. ;-) Pricey bike this one. But lovely, very nice! :-) Lovely film, indeed!

@CaptainRambunctious
@CaptainRambunctious 6 лет назад
I had a 2013 Thruxton so know what you mean. Runs out of puff and sounds like a sewing machine unless you have a some fun tinkering with it. the new Scrambler is completely different. More torque, more power, and extremely well poised, flickable and light. If the new Thruxton didn't exist I'd have the Scrambler. Such a fun bike. So much fun all through the ranges below 80mph... If you plan on being faster than that for long periods, that is the only time you would miss having a bike with a bigger engine. A great bike and so much better than the old Thruxton...

Captain, I CAN'T UNDERSTAND that 270° Crank. When Triumph first came out with it they were trying to get a "Harley" sound. They were UNSUCCESSFUL. YOU know I've been riding more than 50yrs. The SOUND of a 360° crank MEANS BRITISH PARALLEL TWIN. I HAVE NO $. I'm STUCK w/my "Dyna StreetBob." (talk about TOP-HEAVY!) Triumph is OLDER THAN HD. If a 270 has an advantage over a 360..... fine. Did I tell you RED sent B/D Greetings from Munich? Really MADE MY DAY!
@CaptainRambunctious
@CaptainRambunctious 7 лет назад
John Spencer very kind of her. Not sure they were going for a Harley sound, just more a throatier throb. I understand that the 360 is a Triumph set up but certainly the difference between my old Thruxton (360) and the old Scrambler (270) wasn't that much. If anything it gave a bit more lunch lower down in the revs which was the point over purely for sound purposes. My new Thruxton (270) sounds nothing like a Harley and thank goodness for that... but I do prefer the 270 sound over the 360 of my old Thruxton. Is has more resonance and apparently also helps with lower down thump... allegedly... Anyway, it's probably just a preference thing... Thanks for watching and for the comment. TBH!

Captain I have a couple questions not related to your review if it is not too much a problem? What happened to your cool tune you had with the reviews and also what happened to Bigglesworth? I do enjoy your and Phil480 reviews, your work is much appreciated and is something old guys like me cannot say how great it is.
@CaptainRambunctious
@CaptainRambunctious 7 лет назад
I thought that I still use all the same tunes, but maybe I've left one behind somewhere? Bigglesworth is alive and well but he doesn't live particularly close to me, and as I have rostered work, we are not available together very often, so doing reviews with him is tricky to organise. He'll be back no doubt! :-) Thank you for watching! :-)

31:43 I wonder if there are any trails over there...you wouldn't say or even think of that on a Street Twin or Cup. The Scrambler entices to look out for possible off road excursions. It does seem like a do it all bike. Interested to see what luggage options there are. It looks like that side exhaust would limit whether panniers could be attached so you could go on a longer adventure trip.
@CaptainRambunctious
@CaptainRambunctious 7 лет назад
Tail pack and left side pannier would balance out nicely. Basically what you would have done if you had the older Scrambler... Certainly easy enough to have about 50l of luggage on the back.. Then when you add rucksack and/or tank bag, that's a few days at least, and a tent could strap to the top of the lot... Anyway, with a bit of imagination it's all there! :-) Good comment, and thank you for watching! :-)

No offence taken Sir, I would definitely agree that the original Scrambler is indeed top heavy. So it didn't run out of fuel then? :p Okay, here's my thoughts. I wish I knew about this last year! It seems to be the perfect combination of what I like about the Street Twin and the original Scrambler. Having a lower seat height is a bonus for me. Sounds like the handling is a big improvement. I prefer the classic looks of mine, but that's not to say I don't like the more modern touches that the new one has. Those front indicators and fork reflectors would be the first things I'd change. Top notch review Captain!

Thank you Sanjay! Very kind of you to say so. I hope you find it useful. I'm sure our local dealer would let you ride it! After all, they are in the selling bikes business! The helmet is the Bell Custom 500 Roland Sands edition. The Roland Sands bit is just the design, there are lots of different paint jobs for the Bell Custom 500. I find it a very comfortable and relatively quiet (for an open face helmet) helmet! :-) Thanks for watching! :-)

I've watched most of your videos thanks. Used to have a thruxton and now looking for another Triumph. If you were to own one bike, which would it be and why? I'm keen on the 2018 Speedmaster, T120 or this bike. I loved the thruxton but not ideal for a long day ride. I need something that will do everything but not really worried about off road.

Guy Wolff in New England here ..I have two days and 300 miles on one of these ..I just got off of 15 K miles and two seasons on a Yamaha 1700 road star.. My riding habits are 70% back, very bumpy, roads (DO you call those C roads ? ) 15% dirt roads and 15% highways (M roads ? ) ... I consider this bike a back-road roadster .. The suspension is a bit light but my feet are in the right place to stand (or Post) if I see something coming up and the bike is planted and stable in the twisties &.tall enough that I am not scraping pegs . It has enough pep and really more usable power on the highway at the 70 to 85 /90 when you have need than I had with the 1700 .. I love the light weight after the 750 pound Road Star as well .It is great at turning twisties into straight lines. The pipes are hot when you are in town traffic on a warm day (and the water cooling fan makes magic heat in stopped traffic ). Also I wish it had a larger gas tank but all in all it is a perfect bike for my use .. I will get a center stand, heated grips, a long flat seat and a real rack for rain gear or my banjo as the seasons go on .. Thanks for the great reviews on all these wonderful bikes .. If you want a real hoot give the Moto Guzzi V7 stone 111 a ride .. Welcome back to the 1970's ! All the best , Guy

Hello Captain Rambunctious....Iam 171cm and 65kg..Which model should be better for me-STREET TWIN or SCRAMBLER...I read,that both of them have very similar parameters.In your video you like more the scrambler.Maybe because its seat is 4cm higher than the seat on the street twin...Is there anything else,significant,which makes the SCRAMBLER a better choice than the STREET TWIN....or your opinion is based on your height and weight?? Thanks in advance
@CaptainRambunctious
@CaptainRambunctious 5 лет назад
I think that it is also the steering. The rake seems steeper and so even quicker to turn and also feels lighter so maybe the bars are a bit wider... It was just a more fun package whereas the Street Twin felt a little slow and boring although it shouldn't have been on paper... It was all about how it felt. I don't think that it is the height difference. My friend Phil480 is 5'4" and he copes on the older Scrambler which is higher than the street scrambler, so at 5'7" you should be absolutely fine... Hope that this helps... I think that the scrambler looks better too although the street twin is very easy to customise and make your own...
