Only those who truly suffer are capable of genuine content and infinite seriousness. The others are born to harmony, love, dance, and gracefulness. And there are many who would gladly give up metaphysical revelations, obtained through despair, agony, and death, in exchange for a naive love or the voluptuous unconsciousness of dance. And there are many who would renounce glory acquired through suffering for an anonymous happy existence. cioran

Reminds a lot of the Godfather of Pessimism Arthur Schopenhauer. He was also more of an artist than a technical philosopher. I do think it is an interesting idea, but not really a valid option to consider. Our whole neurological and biological condition screams out: Let me live. The "will" to live, to survive and to hope is implanted deeply in us. And may I say, it is a hungry will. Those genes are selfish as hell. Its a bit like D. Humes denying causality in an academical sense. He really did not live up to his thinking on a daily base. Pretty sure this philosopher appeals more to artists than to scientists or average human beings. Also the meaning of birth is way overburdened and goes beyond scientific evidence. Nice to listen.

A priori and reversing the terms of the problem, just as one does or does not kill oneself, it seems that there are but two philosophical solutions, either yes or no. This would be too easy. But allowance must be made for those who, without concluding, continue questioning. Here I am only slightly indulging in irony: this is the majority. I notice also that those who answer “no” act as if they thought “yes.” As a matter of fact, if I accept the Nietzschean criterion, they think “yes” in one way or another. Albert Camus

EXACLTY! Breediotards have to lie to themselves and everybody and their kids. If they didnt they couldnt be an optimist and they would actually have to hold themselves accountable for the crime of forcing kids into this shytshow! They DONT wanna deal in the truth and reality and be held accountable for their stupid evil actions! I was speaking to this one woman on facebook who had commented on some tragedy or stupid political situation and she commented this world has to be some other worlds hell. I look at her profile and sure enough she had 3 kids. I ask her why did she drag kids here then and to my surprise she said because im selfish. I actually told her i respect her honesty and accountability. Most time they deflect, blame shift and even project on childless people that we are the selfish ones. I told her I already knew the answer to that question before I asked it tho. =============================================== Breediots don't care about reality. They care about ‘hope’. Usually, their happiness comes at other people's expense. These people are evil and abusive. I feel sorry for their children.

Corralation, not causation. Also, all this does is support the idea of depressive realism. However, all of this aside, depression or dark traid personalities or not, the arguments still stand on their own
@augmenautus
@augmenautus 2 месяца назад
@saggyshaggy So, there are a few things to answer your points. If we take your argument that correlation does not equal causation, then you are arguing that rather than people who are high in psychopathy, machiavellianism, and depression adopting antinatalism that adopting Antinatalism itself is causing people to become psychopathic, machiavellian and depressed. That seems unlikely, but if it was true, it would be an even more damning argument against Antinatalism. Depressive realism was a hypothesis that turned out not to be true. The idea was that depressed people see the world more realistically. However, further studies showed people with depression consistently see events in a negative light regardless of the situation they are in, which is not a rational response to reality. It's true that even if all antinatalists suffer from depression and personality disorders, that that doesn't disprove their arguments, but it should make us question their arguments more closely. Is it a legitimate philosophy or simply an expression of mental illness. 🤔

If you hadn't been born, then instead of this life it would have been some other life - one that was born. That's all you are: a life. Let's do a thought experiment... Scenario one: Imagine an empty universe devoid of all life. But then a life pops into existence. Scenario two: Imagine an empty universe devoid of all life. But then a life pops into existence. Now, what if I told you that in one of these two scenarios the life that popped into existence is you... It could be either one. Both are lives. Now what if neither of them are you? If you weren't the life that popped into existence would you be in a state of deprivation being safeguarded from the subjective conscious experience that the brain that exists is doing? No! There'd be no you to block that experience from being experienced. It's the only experience there is! So instead of "nothingness" (or whatever you want to call it), there's experience... Because there's a brain that's doing consciousness! So there's consciousness. It'd be imposed just as the consciousness that's reading this was imposed... In this way, there's no escaping conscious experience. Even if you hadn't been born, then instead of this life, it'd be one that was born - one that _does_ exist. This idea of not being born as protection from conscious experience is just snake oil deepity.
@truthhammer69
@truthhammer69 Год назад
This is true, however, there are different forms of consciousness and it still does not provide a good argument in favor of humanity continuing to exist. Clearly, our consciousness is the source of suffering, the more complex nervous system is, the more capacity there is for suffering, so the best thing for humanity is extinction.
@naturalisted1714
@naturalisted1714 Год назад
@@truthhammer69 You're the first person to ever stump me in regards to the point I made above. You make an excellent point!! I've been sharing my "if it weren't this life then it would have been some other life" view (exposing the futility of the Asymmetry Argument due to Generic Subjective Continuity) for a while (years), and you're the first to come up with a rebuttal that actually faces the problem GSC causes. Well done. ... I'm digesting what you've written now... Consciousness certainly is the means in which conscious beings suffer, and humans definitely do-as far as we can tell-have the most complex conscious experiences that lead to existential dread, etc... But if all human life went extinct, then there'd only be the consciousness provided by the brains that remain: animal brains and perhaps insect brains too... And perhaps alien brains out there somewhere... And perhaps some planets have aliens that have conscious experience that's much much worse than humans, and living lives far worse... But we can't know that. But we do see the horrors of wild animal's lives... So the question comes down to: would you rather be a human or an animal or insect? Out of those lives, I'd personally choose to be a human... I gringe at the idea of being torn to shreds alive by a crocodile or lions... Or the millions of other horrors wild animals endure... As for humans not having any reason to exist: I think of a scenario where our engineering abilities could give us the ability to spare a planet that's experiencing a hellish lifestyle (much much much worse than ours) from continued existence. And help us travel to better places, and do many other things to improve life here on Earth and elsewhere. Do we really want these capabilities that evolution has created to be lost forever? I think they could serve a greater good when we accept GSC (the point I made in my original comment).
