I rewatched the Justice League animated series recently and boy they were good. Good stories and character development and the animation was great. We were spoiled with good quality shows as kids
I think the best thing James Gunn can do is come out and release an official statement saying the Snyderverse ends with Aquaman and The Flash and we will be starting completely fresh with some of the same actors. It’s a clean slate and it puts those toxic fans to bed but an open invitation to everyone else.
So alienate all the original fans who stuck by the dceu from the beginning and cater to the people who never liked most of the early films, didn't show up for the Geoff Johns/Hamada era films after Snyder was pushed out and only want superficial additions added to the films like " more fun and shiny costumes " ? Yeah.. that's a great idea, way better than working with the universe already setup and moving forward with some quality films. Hate it or love it. Snyder already did all the heavy lifting, world building and character development. The “snyderverse” will remain canon to the DCEU, but the tone and characters will shift dramatically compared to their counterparts in those films. While I wasn’t a fan of those films, looking at it objectively, I think it’s false to say a “minimal amount of DC fans” weren’t happy with those films if you look at the ratings and revenue they generated. Snyder might’ve done some heavy lifting involving the world/characters, but given as how a lot of it will never come to light (the nightmare timeline for example) then they’re gonna have to start building a new plan moving forward. You’re entitled to your love for those films don’t get me wrong, but saying that only a minority of DC fans didn’t like them is just plain wrong.

They already changed the tone when Josstice League dropped and they stuck with it up to this point. And it failed. I can say it's minimal because WB gave fans like yourself what you wanted and most of you didn't come out to support these films in theaters or during the pandemic streaming releases. Snyderverse merch, toys, figures etc still sell like crazy to this day. The bluray was at the chop of the charts for months and popped back up multiple times. That's not even getting into how much bvs made in theaters and digital bluray + all the Batman/Superman merch that one film sold. Im sorry, but you cannot say the same for the films I mentioned above. Shazam damn near flopped, and no one bought the merch, they barely bought the bluray. Samething with WW84, which is arguably the worst dc film made in decades. BoP was a major bomb and did nothing to help sell the Harley Quinn character in multiple avenues, if anything it hurt the character and the Birds of Prey IP. The merch for this film did not sell either. They even had to give away birds of prey inspired comics and toys to scholastic cus they were collecting dust like Rose Tico toys lol. The Suicide Squad flopped when every other film that came out around it bounced back from the pandemic box office and made bank. TSS lost 200 mil .. and even with all these colorful characters, nobody cared and they didn't support it in any avenue. No one sitting around like "man, cant wait to grab that figure of Ratchacher 2" It's all good talk but when push comes to shove it meant nothing. You got your light hearted tone, and nobody cares anymore. And it must be minimal cus most of the dc fans did not show up to support the new tone or direction. Most of the dceu fans kept buying the Snyderverse films and merch then said fuck everything else after that. The numbers and sales prove this. Truth is, fans like yourself could never be the majority when it comes to DCEU films specifically.. cus you didn't like them from the beginning. You left it behind while a lot of others stuck with it. And there are a lot of DC fans who loved MoS from day one and stuck with the universe. Those fans are the one who built up the current DC films fandom. The rest of ya were the ones complaining about smiles and red trunks. And you can't pretend like you're a majority . If you were it would show. Superman is in Black Adam right now, spit curl with the john williams theme. Where are ya at ? Not supporting lmao cus its always been all talk. Keep the storyline going, make small changes but that's it. As soon as they changed the zimmer theme to williams it caused a huge debate and backlash online. Because a lot of people love the Zimmer score for this universe. Who knew giving Superman character development would be such a big deal to some but it worked well and they could easily move into the next chapter of DCEU Superman because of that development that was already done. If they're going to keep fucking up canon, pushing bs nostalgia and changing the universe to cater to petty complaints from fans who are probably going to watch an mcu movie instead, WB will lose even more viewers than they already have. Snyderverse fans aint going anywhere, just like the Nolanverse fans never left, neither did the Burton fans. DCCW fans are still around too. The whole point of what im saying is cutting off one side of consumers to cater to another side that has yet to prove that they'll actually show up is a dumb idea for a fresh start. If they can find a way to have their cake and eat it too that should be the answer. Cus I guarantee you a lot of DC fans will not stand for MoS, BvS, ZSJL, WW etc being retconned, rebooted or disregarded in any way. They're all great CBMs to tons of fans. Going in that direction will only cause more fan divide and issues for the studio. Its time to bring this all together once and for all. Cus I know for a fact the fans you think will be enough wont be.

DC honestly is better overall compared to Marvel, has better IPs, better story arcs, albeit more depressing stories than marvel, but yeah I feel like they lost their momentum already, superhero fatigue is real and we have marvel to blame for that
Yea i can agree with the IP and better story arcs, but it's dissapointing they werent utilized well with good manangent or else their movies would have been more consistent. But tbh I dont think DC has that much bad movies as people may claim , they would just look at the RT scores or because it's not light and gives off a pop- corn flick like the MCU most persons would automaticlly cancel out DC movies even befoe seeing them . But because of the MCU great track record, even if the RT score is bad or word of mouth , they'll actually go check it out for themselves . The problem is not Zack Snyder. It’s the old WB executives and marketing team. Zack told us in a video that his superman would be a Clark Kent learning to become super man in our world today that was not the marketing for this movie. It was just superman. The old WD instead of allowing Zack Snyder to tell his story they continued to try to get a Director. That’s known to tell a good story with time to fit in a two hour window that is not known for and put expectations that cannot be met. That’s why the movie was choppy. It’s not Zacks work it’s the old WB’s involvement.
I can't imagine the disappointment for fans of those movies to see how it go in a completely different direction. At the very least, you'll always have ZSJL.
@@thethriftytypewriter I think that was the main problem. The DCEU had a direction and it made money, but WB wantd a billion right out of the gate. They weren't willing to earn it by building. Then WB traversed onto a non-direction. It wouldn't have been so bad if, after they pushed Snyder out, WB actually had a plan. These idiots were actually going to off Superman and make Batman a 70 year-old after Flash.

Unfortunately I’ve only seen Arrow seasons 1&2 and The Flash season 1. There seems to be so much going on that I don’t think I even wanna try to catch up at this point

I am a dc fan, and think that dc should do its own thing, if executives wants to chase marvel with contant film releases, i am not interested in anything that is made with this purpose. If they are doing dc original stuff like releasing live action from other directors ones in 2-3 years because they have something interesting to say with the character, then i am loving it, like Matt Reeves's Batman film that have a unique identity, if i want films every year i will watch great animated films (very recommend, if you want something great to watch you will always find something there, and comics dive deep into characters too, so choice is limitless), i do not want release schedules, i want quality. DC is my third writing inpiration (after Avatar The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra), and dc majorly influenced my writing genre (drama, with character development) and i want to see great things more, not milking of characters, and milion movies every minute

Notice the trend within your list? All visionaries. Matt Reeves, Nolan, Snyder, and Wann are not simply directors-for-hire. That is what is lost with the MCU. A cohesive DCU cannot rely on visionaries whose movies all carry their signatures. This is why Edgar Wright walked away from Ant-Man.

It's a pretty simply thing to wrap one's mind around: - The DCEU was a mess because it began disingenuously and WB relied on a visionary to abruptly create a shared universe that he did not set out to do. - To fix the DCU, a show runner (Gunn) needs to direct directors-for-hire to keep each movie aesthetically the same, more of a live-action cartoon, and running in a single direction. Like the Arrowverse, and like the MCU, the DCU will eventually become bland and mediocre in its sameness. If Zaslav is smart, he will continue to allow side projects, so that visionaries like Donner, Burton, Nolan, Snyder, Phillips, and Reeves can do their thing and keep raising the bar for this genre. Like the MCU (or Arrowverse), nothing in the new DCU will do this.

I prefer the DC universe even with its constant ups-and-downs (much like Sonic) because when it tries for bigger and bolder things, it's far more stimulating, even when it's not always successful (I'm glad you mentioned the, "Do We Need Superman?" scene). And as for the Birds of Prey movie: 7/10. Enjoyable but it only flirts with being a much edgier movie, instead of being able to fully commit.
My issues are more with the story structure than anything. I think the story is good, but the characters weren’t developed properly due to the way the story was structured.

It has gotten beyond old. 🙄 So many years later, it has become clear that what people have hated ever since MoS was never really the movies they saw. It was always about expecting to see what they didn't, and feeling cheated. It was always about the feels of Superman, not about Superman. They didn't want to see an experience and pissed off Batman after twenty years, they wanted to see twenty something year-old Batman being Christian Bales. Their "not my Superman" quickly turned into "but, but, we always loved Cavill" the moment they found out that WB was going to have no Superman.
I really loved what they did with joker in the Snyder cut I hope we see more of that joker in the DCEU also I would love to see a batflack film with death stroke in it I been waiting for that since 2017 I just hope we get it in the near future.

My favorite scene in B v S is easily The Martha scene is perfect music choreography and the acting on behalf of Ben afleck was great and it also made Batman incredible as long as Batman didn’t kill but he did sadly
That was the point. This was a weathered and experienced Batman who witnessed his "code" facilitate the continued murders from criminals he never put down. All his code managed to do was get Robin killed (and hundreds of others). He was angry, which is why BvS is also a redemptive Batman story. The "Martha" scene was not pulled off well. What went on in that moment was left to the imagination of the viewer. And many viewers don't like a movie not being clear about itself.

This probably doesn’t go for many but I actually really liked WW84. I thought the story was fine, pacing was cohesive, and the casting for some characters (especially Pascal) was phenomenal. It wasn’t the best I’ve ever seen but the fact that it has a glaring 5.4 on IMDb is absolutely criminal

*sigh* ok: The Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern was ok, but bogged down by the lack of a strong villain, and directionless Green Lantern, once he had his powers. 5/10 Batman Begins is hands down, THE BEST superhero movie of all time. Nolan truly understood how to make a real down to Earth superhero movie: Treat it as a drama first (a character study of Bruce Wayne), and add action as needed. The only real misfire was Katie Holmes (Maggie should have been the original Rachel Dawes). 9/10. Everyone loves TDK, but I think it was one point less. The movie is carried by Heath Ledger, but Gotham loses some of its artistic style, and simply become Chicago. I did still like it quite a bit, but less surreal and Two Face literally coming out of nowhere, bring it down to an 8/10. TDKR: Bane doesn't fight Batman. He fights a frail man who can barely walk, and is easily knocked down by slapping his cane away. Completely unfair. The knee brace was a complete insult. I can't believe Nolan thought that was inventive. If anything, it was cringe. And NO ONE gets up from broken vertebrae by doing calisthenics. You need surgery immediately if you ever want to walk again, assuming your spinal cord was spared. That whole scene completely suspended disbelief for me, and ruined the film. 4/10. Anne Hathaway was phenomenal as Catwoman, which is too bad, considering the rest of the movie did not match. MoS: Reeks of WB studio heads wanting to capture the magic of Batman Begins. I can just see them sitting in their conference table: "Hmm, everyone loved Batman Begins, so let's do that with Superman. So they give us 20 mins of Krypton, then a sad, emo Clark (who has zero reason to be). They can't really give him a tragic story and stick to canon (I could have done it better TBH), so instead they have him do the clique "you're not even my real dad" bit, right before the dad dies tragically in a freak tornado. Adding insult to injury, there was absolutely ZERO reason for Clark not to save his dad. If anything, that should have been the segway moment where Clark embraces his destiny, etc etc. Amy Adams is terrible as Lois Lane, and her cringy lines don't help. The destruction of Metropolis is so over the top, that one sits there wondering how that city will ever be reconstructed. Of course, Snyder has to end the movie on a happy tone, with Clark joining the Daily Planet. I'm left wondering, what Daily Planet? the city was reduced to rubble! And to add insult to injury, Superman is a d10k. Destroys a military drone, and then says "I want to help, but it will be on my terms". Sure, the entire planet would immediately embrace this guy with open arms......not! If anything, the entire world would now be paralyzed with fear, and would embrace anyone that could claim to be able to control or kill these god powered aliens. I did like the fight scenes, Cavil was a good casting choice, as was Costner and Diane Lane. Shannon hams it up pretty good. 5/10 BvS: The studio heads just couldn't leave enough alone. They saw TDK made a billion dollars, and wanted a repeat. I can imagine their thought process now "Hey, everyone liked the Nolan Batman, so we made Superman into the Nolan Batman" - "But people want to see actual Batman, what do we do?" - "no big deal, we'll make actual Batman a psycho" - "ok, didn't everybody looooooooove Heath Ledger as the Joker?" - "They did, so let's bring him back, but this time he's called Lex Luthor" - "How do we get Superman and Batman to fight?" - "Easy, Superman is Nolan's Batman, he will go after psycho Batman organically. We'll have the Joker Lex Luthor pull the strings" - "Batman has to get the upper hand and "win", otherwise people will think the movie sucks! but how do we stop him from killing Superman?" - "Pfff, easy, don't you remember that both of them have mothers called Martha? Superman will call out for Martha, and that will shock Batman into changing his mind" Anyway I never saw the theatrical. I saw the extended cut, and that is worth 3/10, mostly for the cool visuals. Josstice League: A convoluted mess of Snyder's dark DC with Whedon coming in to give it a MCU coat of paint. It was 'almost" an OK film. 4/10 Snyder Cut: What happened? Snyder actually made a good story? It has all the lame Snyderisms...................but he listened to the fan complaints, and mostly ironed out his excesses (at least in the writing). Superman is barely in it, and that's good, because Snyder's Superman sucks ba11s. The story is Cyborg's story, and he does great! 7/10.......until that weird ending, 6/10. Aquaman 1: stupid as heck movie, but fun. Great visuals, simple story. Not a lot of convolution, which clearly helps the story and the pacing. Black Manta was the best part. 6/10 WW1: This movie felt like someone saw a bunch of those war camaraderie movies, where soldiers band together for a good cause.........except that one of them happens to be a super heroine. Gadot does a great job. Clearly powerful but feminine and likeable. The 3rd act was weak, 7/10.........but then they go and kill off Trevor. Phuck U movie! 4/10. Shazam: Calling this an MCU movie is doing it a disservice. This is a much smarter film. It felt like it has tints of John Hughes teen "coming of age" comedies...............except the protagonist coming of age is a super hero. This did for a super hero comedy what Nolan did for super hero drama: Concentrated on the organic elements of its hero getting to where they should be, with the heroic stuff has excellent garnish (not overpowering the story). It has some misses (all the kids becoming Shazams without earning it, for example. Only Freddy should have been a Shazam in the first film). But the story mostly works: 8/10 Haven't seen any of the others. They basically gave the finger to Cavil, so I will not be watching any further DC universe movies, especially by James Gunn, who everyone seems to have forgotten is likely a p%@o.
Bro didn’t watch all of marvel phase 4 and lost interest. Watch them, then judge. They’re supposed to be fun not earth shattering. But now gotg 3 is here and is the best of marvel’s lineup. I only started with phase 4 cause I was too young to understand the mcu and as a fan who came in during phase 4 / infinity war I believe while yes it’s had problems, there were only 2 bad projects. Thor 4 and she hulk. Others where 7’s or 8’s like Erernals was a 7, but imo MoM, NWH and Black Panther 2 were fantastic and better than any of their previous films. Of course there will always be opposing ideals, Critisism. That will always exist but I have to say people jsut tend to follow a single kind and agree without thought. The mcu isn’t dead, it was merely trying to change after the infinity saga and COVID. Now with its bad people up on top gone, writers wanting better pay etc we can even SEE with gotg 3, it’s gotten truly back. Marvel is back and I’m sick and tired of people always desiring endgame and infinity war quality with all of its new films. Iron man 3, Thor 2, hulk. All mediocre but not bad. Imo even worse than the worst of phase 4. Except she hulk that’s trash. But remember we had Loki, moon knight, mom, nwh, werewolf by night!!! Like come on we need to just accept they won’t be 111/10 quality only sometimes like all films, and definitely won’t get to that until phase 6 where we get back to infinity war/endgame territory. The word y’all need is Patience. We all need it.
