The Truck Market Just COLLAPSED! Buyers WON'T PAY For OVERPRICED Trucks.

Dealerships Just Collapsed and Dealer Lots are PACKED With $100,000 TRUCKS they CAN'T SELL. Ford, Chevy, RAM and Toyota can't sell overpriced pickup trucks. Ford truck sales have plummeted. RAM truck sales numbers are at their lowest for the quarter in over 6 years, and Chevy is so desperate to sell their trucks that one dealer is even offering up to $16,000 off MSRP. Even Toyota is struggling to sell right now. With truck prices out of control and inventory piling up all over the country. Something has to break, and it's finally starting.

Blows my mind that the "cheap" Chevy Silverado work truck you showed is over $41k. I swear just a few years ago dealerships were advertising them discounted for the low $20k range. Same with F-150 work trucks. Insane! Meanwhile, I keep driving my 16yr old GMC Canyon with 121k miles because it still runs well and I plan to squeeze the life out of it until truck prices come back down to reality. Mine is a basic work truck and it cost under $13k out the door brand-new as a 1yr old leftover. I refuse to spend $40k on a truck. Dealerships and manufacturers can kiss my A. Let those trucks rot on their lots.

What always amazes me about the price of trucks is that back in the 80's and early '90's, if you wanted a (relatively) cheap vehicle, you bought a pickup. The "pricey" choices were sedans and minivans Oh how things have flipped.
@johnappleseed9290

It seems like the bigger the better is the trend now, so many aggresive drivers more so than ever before and people feel that a large SUV or truck will “protect them” from harms way. So many of the average joes go out of their way to spend this ridiculous amount of money on a vehicle. The dealerships know this and so do the manufacturers. I drive a Tacoma and I paid a third of the of price of what these new GMCs/Fords and Rams are going for.
@Arcella1981
@Arcella1981 6 месяцев назад
yeah what bugs me is no one makes the small pickups anymore, I heard its because the automakers have to pay a fee based on vehicle size and the small pickups are more expensive so they just started to make them bigger, i remember when the ford ranger was a tiny truck but now it is about the same size as the F-150
@jameslmorehead
@jameslmorehead 6 месяцев назад
@@Arcella1981 It also comes down to the EPA's fuel economy requirements. You can search for the chart, but the quick and dirty of it is they are using an exponential curve for the fuel economy versus vehicle wheel base square footage. That is, the area measured from tire to tire dictates the fuel economy required by the EPA whereas a larger footprint requires much lower fuel economy. If you notice the trends with automotive design, overhangs from the wheel to the bumper have gotten shorter to increase this area for the same size of vehicle. On the other side, small vehicles like a ranger, S10, or Miata have ridiculously high economy requirements that it's impossible to make them. The equivalent for a single cab, short wheelbase compact truck from the early 90's would need to have a fuel economy of 45 to 50 MPG. That pushes them into a hybrid or full electric and out of the price range of a compact vehicle. It's one of the dumbest ideas ever.

@@tradd1763 you can literally buy a good used truck for $30k. Base model gives you a functionally-equivalent truck for way less cost without that fancy crap that will cost a fortune to fix. Funny thing is, I get offers to buy it for up to $20k. The used truck market here in Texas is equally as nuts as the new market. Dealers are asking $20-40k for stuff with over 100k miles on it, although I suspect this is because new truck prices are so outrageous. Without even taking today's high, outrageous prices into consideration, dealers not too long ago made their own market adjustments above MSRP on vehicles. I made MY market adjustment too - I will NEVER, EVER patronize any dealer that made those adjustments above MSRP, What goes around, eventually comes back around, and I have absolutely no sympathy for any of those dealers.

In the 1960s, pickup trucks were selling for less than two thousand bucks. They were on sedan chassis and rode like lumber wagons. But they were great transportation for the thrifty. The recent pickup fad was a testament to advertising.
@seana806
@seana806 6 месяцев назад
Reason why cars and trucks back then were more reasonable is because people were sensible with their wants and needs. If people wanted something cheap back then, they usually opted for: manual steering, manual brakes, manual transmission, no air conditioning, manual seats, manual windows, could have even gotten a heater delete in some vehicles. If you wanted some comfort, could have just opted for the air conditioning. If dealers checked off every option, would have added a significant amount to the price resulting in slow sales. Only vehicles on the dealer lot that were loaded were demonstrator models, or was once of those circumstances where someone ordered a car but ended up canceling since they found a better deal elsewhere.
