Jordan Peterson literally changed my life. Brought me from a point in my depression where I had lost nearly every thing and could barely get out of bed and would cry in the shower and didn’t enjoy life at all….to having an apartment, having a job, getting an even better job, staying close to my friends, mending family relationships and putting my own life in order. Thank you, Jordan. ❤️all love and blessings and goodness to you.

@@mrx4814 I feel like Jordan Peterson has helped me, in 2 basic ways. one way is with insight into understanding my mother's unhealthy behavior that has hurt me deeply. in fact, it was his symbolic interpretation of Sleeping Beauty that really gave me a framework for specifically pinpointing the unhealthy parenting that I needed to learn how to overcome the consequences of for growth. he has also helped me make sense of the chaos my life was left in by an ego death that resulted from a traumatic betrayal I experienced with her as an adult. even being able to define my experience that way really benefited me. it left me in shock and then confused disorder from the derealization and depersonalization of a shattered identity. I didn't even know where to begin in rebuilding my sense of self and developing the healthy behaviors I didn't learn as a child. I think Jordan Peterson can serve as a kind of surrogate father for people who are lost and need guidance in learning how to organize themselves, draw boundaries, and learn healthy behaviors that support taking responsibility for oneself in the real world. I find his pragmatism refreshing and helpful as someone who tends more towards the left than he does. I don't agree with him on everything but I do respect him a lot and that's uncommon to find nowadays with how far people go off the deep end in extremes. his advice has practical value for overcoming the obstacle of disordered psychological patterns in building a meaningful life.

@@Rocksteady246 Jordan Peterson is a clinical psychologist/professor who did a thesis on alcoholism, yet claimed that he wasn't aware of the well known dangers of benzodiazepines.. [RETORT: “well-known” dangers is incorrect, as the long term (NOW considered 2-4 weeks) use of benzos is very new and many doctors are still unaware. Long-term use revelations are largely in the past 5-10 years, not 20-30. He experienced a paradoxical reaction to abrupt cessation, which is rare and a separate topic.] Jordan Peterson also stated himself that he "adamantly" tried to get a client to take pharmaceuticals. [RETORT: “pharmaceuticals” is an extremely broad term and covers medications which have helped treat suicidal ideation. Also covered is every other medication available OTC or by prescription, which deserve more gratitude than condemnation… yet demonizing “big pharma” is popular, unlike gratitude. Accountability is for both credit and blame. I give with both hands.] A clinical psychologist who isn't aware of the well known dangers of benzodiazepines, yet pushes pharmaceuticals onto others, has questionable competency at the very least; can you grasp how dangerous this type of incompetence is within the mental health world? [RETORT: it’s obvious the effort is attacking the man, hence the lack of knowledge on both him and benzos not deterring.] I criticize everyone, including him, but your comment is unjust.

@@dn1697 The old egyptians had an interesting framework, Egyptian gods were not inconceivable and distant deities that required to be worshipped and appeased. They rather represented archetype-like divine principles - "states of soul" - that humans pass through. Perhaps the classic example of human identification with divinity in ancient Egypt is the way in which people became united with the god Osiris. This was a pious wish in New Kingdom Egypt, for all who passed over to the otherworld. Osiris was the god who died in this life to be born anew in the otherworld. It was a pious wish, but it was also a necessity if one was to undergo the transformational experiences involved. And so we often see people portrayed as Osiris, and we read their names in The Book of the Dead conjoined to that of Osiris. This same Osiris, it should be said, governed the cycles of death and regeneration throughout the natural world. (6) [Osiris] presides over and facilitates this rite of passage from one mode of existence or awareness to another. So to get out of depression you would need to go death and rebirth transformation process within your psyche

It has been about a year and a half since the last time I really gave Jordan my attention. Jordan has the most genuine concern for humanity. The courage he has, to continually face chaos for the well being of others, is truly remarkable. He has given me the courage to face life head on. For the first time in my life I can say that I am making progress. I bought his book and began to read it. However, I only made it through the first chapter before I stopped. I knew what I needed to do. I got away from my home and got a job with an honorable organization that has taken care of me. I have a girlfriend I adore. And I have been working with a therapist and psychologist for 7-8 months. I have come from a mental state of pure resent and frustration to a state of acceptance, awareness, hope, and action. I have only scraped the surface of progress and still suffer from mental health issues. But I have found some order in my environment and in my mind. I am healing, slowly but surely. And I have developed a sense of self-worth. Jordan, thank you for your work. I hope you are well. -Garrett

I just finished Beyond Order today, I’ve read Maps of Meaning a couple years ago and I’ve still to read 12 rules for life but I thoroughly enjoyed Beyond Order, the layout of the chapters and the focus on each theme within a chapter made it comprehensible and easy to pickup and read even after putting it down for a day or two as the themes are hit home so effectively that everything registers much more easily than in maps of meaning for sure. Although I know that’s the work from which the other volumes derive their content and that is clearly what Peterson was going for making them accessible and practical to follow. I have been going through a rough period of late and the last chapter; ‘be grateful in spite of your suffering’ resonated so profoundly with me that I was attentive to each word printed on the page. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in self help as it pertains to psychology, anthropology, philosophy and even spirituality. Thanks for writing the book in a trying time in your life Dr Peterson as I know it must’ve been hard. It has payed off tremendously I assume as I imagine it has helped not only me but many others to navigate their lives in trying times. The fact that you wrote it in such circumstances testifies to the resilience of the empowering messages throughout the book as it concerns the development of the individual.

Thank you Dr. Peterson. This video really helped me understand why I'm struggling in life. I now realize that I never fully integrated in our culture. I always felt like an outsider never really fitting in. I'd convinced myself that the problem was with others, now I understand that my attitude of non-conformism has been hindering me from having positive relationships and making my life chaotic. My temperament is liberal and I am predisposed to negative emotion. Not a productive combination. Eventhough I changed my outlook on reality to be more can-do and optimistic it didnt have the results I expected because I never established an identity that satisfactorily conforms to society. So I've been living in a feed back loop without knowing it. Clarity, its beautiful feeling.

The same things Dr. Peterson is saying about abandoning your isolated self to become part of the functioning unit is so spot on what I went through. I was consciously doing that while not 100% abandoning my Self. There has to be an "averaging out" of some type of socially normative behavior that everyone follows to maintain some type of homostasis... A "touchstone" to always return to when life gets to crazy.

As far as I'm concerned it's suffering but it's not pointless anymore since I am aimed at something. Maybe if you can visualise beyond the suffering, and the path is definitely something that is interesting to you (something JP talks about a lot), then you know it's worth it, and as you say it's aiming at something none the less. I have ADD and BPD. I get what your saying. So I have my brain on 2 and trying to sponge up more info. I'm 57. Bringing out my inner gifts. I do accomplish things as soon as I speak it into existence. May take 5 years but i do as say. I learn from failure. I love it sometimes because around the corner is better.
@zer0bankoe
@zer0bankoe 2 года назад
I think BPD is your brain not liking to be commanded. Is it true that you didn’t have anybody to tell you what to do or how to do things ? Because i had ADD when I was young and that meant that I didn’t liked it to listen to authorities. When I became older I became wiser and realized that my dad wasn’t around to push me on the right direction. My mom is bitter and does not have a good sense of disciplined dominance. She a typical angry Russian mom that doesn’t use logic, my dad is a typical modern African dad who left my mom because he just didn’t care ( he has many kids by different wife’s). The Gov. told me I had ADHD too, they recommended weird pills but lucky me that I never took them. It’s my best strength, I only pay attention (very focused) to things I’m interested in or to important things. Explore your mind and learn to know yourself better than any outside observer ever could. Have a nice day 😄✌🏽
@zer0bankoe
@zer0bankoe 2 года назад
@@mik569 Did you even read the whole comment? 😅 I said that ADHD is my greatest strength. People with ADHD are quickly distracted when things are boring or when things aren’t that important. But when someone with ADHD is interested into something they are laze focused and will find out everything or learn everything about the subject until they are satisfied. But ma’am… I strongly recommend trying to quit medication. Just try and if it doesn’t help start taking it again. You have a nice day too!😄

It’s good to know his positive effect on people brings him comfort. He has his battles, and I’m thankful for everything he has done. When I first saw Peterson I was an overweight anxiety ridden kid lacking a father figure. I binged every one of his college lectures, interviews, etc, before he even wrote his first book. And it radically changed my life. With his influence, and a few others, I shredded my weight, developed a profound, more positive outlook on life. I became a coach, a trainer, played basketball in college. I obtained my dreams. I’m now in the army, stationed in Hawaii, and am engaged to the best woman I’ve ever known. This man’s influence took a scared, overweight kid from nothing, and helped mold him into a dude jumping out of black hawks. Thank you, JP.

You make people think - you introduce a wake up call in some and a revision of their own belief system a d/ or thought process in others.Thank you for that. You managed to do the impossible - the take peoples focus of victim mentality when it comes to order - and put responsibility in their own thinking , acceptance and choices. When I listen to Dr. Peterson speak about evolving yourself into the hero, he always makes me think of my father’s personal evolution. They remind me of each other. My father was a very happy, loving, settled young man. He had a loving family, a deep faith, and a good life path that he’d planned doing something he loved, he had gotten his degree in journalism and had begun his career as a sports reporter. It didn’t matter at that point that my father was a sensitive and very caring person. It wasn’t dangerous to be. But then came the horrors of World War II and he found himself thrust into a world of chaos, fear, violence and cruelty. In the midst of this nightmare, one of the few things that allowed him to reorder himself in the best way and function was to become a good leader, showing courage for his men, learning when a man would be helped by a joke, a firm word, a nod of head, silence to allow them to regroup. He came back into the world both the same and yet very different from the easy, happy young man he’d been. He used all those skills he’d learned in the war not only to raise all 11 of his children, but he used those skills to help our community as well. He was a hero, he was courageous, he was loving. The war did change his life trajectory. He went back to school and became a doctor and moved across the country into a place with very few doctors. The war broke him but didn’t destroy him. He made a beautiful life of the two selves, but beauty and suffering drew the same piercing response from his soul for the rest of his life. Something could be so beautiful it would pierce his heart with an emotion beyond joy and make him cry. Other things, even simple bad things like a lonely spinster, would cause him piercing suffering beyond sadness and also make him cry. I see all of that in Dr. Peterson. The only thing I can’t see, and it is most probably because Dr. Peterson is a stranger to me, and who can read the thoughts of of another person’s heart, is that my father was always deeply grounded in his Catholic faith. It helped him see things from an infinite perspective, where all things work together for the good, and his joys and pains had a purpose. Dr. Peterson probably feels those same things. It’s difficult for me as a stranger to understand how to work through that without the roadmap I was given by my parents. I see a beautiful soul in Dr. Peterson. It struck me so strongly when he said “What is true?” So closely echoing the question Jesus posed to Pilot, and thereby to us, “What is Truth?” When I take myself out of the story of the passion at that part, I always think Jesus was practicing the Socratic method with all of us. 🙂
