The negative connotation had nothing to do with how advanced , cultured, or knowledgeable they were or were not...the philistines did not know the One true and living God.
I love these archaeological findngs that support stories from the Bible. It's fascinating! Even if you don't believe the stories from the Bible, they still were written by people who lived in the iron age, the bronze age, even the stone age. They tell us about their culture, their life style, their enemies an their enemies' cultures, about what was important to them and about the way they were thinking. And if there are archaeological findings that give us a picture of the world they were living in, that makes it so much more fascinating.
Sorry but this guy is a proven hack. There are no Archioloigist that believe these things are true. He has done several very biased shows that are not true.
Daniel Reiter:. It, plainly, states that Samson was a "judge" of Israel, who was descended from Dan; one of the sons of Jacob, son of Isaac, son of Abraham.
I like the video so far, but I have to say that the only thing the presence of the two stone pillars at the philistine temple proves is that the authors of the Bible knew what a philistine temple looked like
I’d love to hear middle eastern history from the actual people 😣 Philistine aka Palestinian people are very much still alive, just like there are over 90 million indigenous people still living across the americas, but yt historians say they died hundreds of years ago.
Indeed, plenty of Philistines still there. Just wondering over the transition from a greek ppl to a semitic ppl. 3000 years of inter-marrying perhaps but somehow that ought to make peace not war... or not... lol. Marriages are not always happy. 3000 years of marriages might cause trouble...
Several thoughts. One. Feather head dress, kilts, and ability to run extreme distance sounds like the sea people could have been mesoamerican. Second after the bronze age collapse how were the philistine able to continue development of more advanced tools given huge amounts of time between progression of human tools? Number 3 what if the migration of Egyptians after the collapse are being mistaken as sea people?
So the Philistines were so cosmopolitan and advanced that they inspired envy and greed amongst warlike Babylon, who conquered and destroyed and enslaved them. But the hick nomad dweebs called "Isrealites" were not worth noticing (and harder to catch without a big city to pin them down) so the Isrealites survived as a culture, and therefore got to be the ones to write down their own version of history and legend, and cast themselves as the heroes against every other culture out there.
The winners always write the story that suits them. Can't trust anyone. It is indeed medieval that archeologists are not allowed to study scelletons even millions of years old....
@@AlashiaTuol archeological evidence that does not conflict with Biblical accounts. The idea being, if they relate stories based on events that are plausible to believe, then their motivations for keeping such a cohesive record over the course of 2000 years is also plausible.
@@carbine090909 Archeological evidence not _conflicting_ with Biblical accounts is in no way the same as _confirming_ them. Lack of proof negative does not mean one should assume positive. Also, that's flat-out wrong anyways. There's no evidence of the Biblical plagues in Egypt, and that's a pretty big thing to be missing from the historical record. We have pretty substantial records of every major period of Ancient Egypt because Ancient Egyptians _loved records._ The fact that we have at least some records describing the welfare of the Egyptian kingdom from every rule and dynasty, as well as plenty of archeological evidence, none of which align with the Bible's description of events in Egypt, is itself a historical contradiction. The major exceptions to the continuity of the historical records are the intermediate periods, but the culture during those periods in no way resembles the Egypt described in the Bible. Such disasters would have left enormous amounts of evidence behind. And there's no written records confirming the events of the New Testament until 100 years AFTER the events occured, despite these events occuring during the height of the Roman Empire with tons of literate people and records kinda being Rome's thing. This is not to say it's 100% definitively impossible that events that inspired the readings actually occured, but it's self-evidently unlikely at this point that the Bible's accounts are historically accurate. Speaking as someone who studies art history and focuses primarily on the ancient world, the Bible was written by people within the cultures they spoke of. Before it was written down it was passed down in oral tradition. It makes sense that a lot of things in the Bible's _setting_ would line up with the historical record because those are the settings the ancient Hebrews would have exposure to. That doesn't prove the events happened, or that the Bible's accounts would be accurate if some real event actually inspired the stories.
@@carbine090909 Also, what cohesive record? You say 2000 years, so I assume you mean the New Testament, but the books of the New Testament contradict each other _a lot_ when it comes to chronology and the people involved in different tellings of the same alleged events.
@4:30 Philistines eating pork and beef while semites eat goat and sheep. Interesting. While semites were nomadic people at this time, the philistines were not? Goats and sheep are more easily herded than pigs and cattle hence the philistines were more likely to be settled and basically expanded their domains by moving into the Palestine. The semite nomadism is clearly shown in many places in the Torah.
Nooo, you mean Bugs Bunny was wrong? By the way, I bet the word _Apache_ was the moral equivalent of Phillistean in some other native America language.
Robert Gotschall: Not really ... God never mentions Apaches in the Bible. The Philippines are like the present government Cabal the present day Goliath soon to come toppling down .
This guy is a hack. He bends things to fit his narrative. I did used to like him, but now, ah, no. According to him he finds everything! He found Jesus’ bones! He knows what happened in exodus! He’s magical! He does have good presentation, but......
He kinda seems like a rude jerk to me, using sloppy etymology and history to try to craft his point. And how many commercials can you stick in a 20 minute video?
DNA lineages link many of the Jewish communities with the communities descended from the Sea People. The haplogroups are actually the same. The other major Jewish haplogroup is an Egyptian one, which I believe is associated with the Levite marker on the Y chromosome.
Very annoying to keep hearing B.C. being purposely changed to try to rewrite history. You don’t want to believe, fine, but confirming the Bible and denying it at the same time is hypocritical. At least B .C. is used for the rest of the video!🌸😊
This Bible story is one of the most tragic, except Jesus's. When our Minister finished his preach about Samson and his death and what it really meant and his last words I broke into tears. It still does affect me. (I'm from the Reformed Church, we call our Preachers Ministers.)
@@Patchaddictedpolymath B.C., Before Christ, was accepted long before any atheist got offended. And, Peter Hitchens, I suspect, agrees with me. The Left destroys everything.
I don't think anyone say that the bible is all fiction. Most places and important people (mainly kings) were real. The problem is that it's written in an age when religion and history was the same. And most are oral traditions told over and over. And I'm sure that many changed the storys to keep the people interested... For the guys (munks) who wrote it down, this was normal and now it's up to us to try to sort out religion and poetry from real history.
The reason Samson was so strong is because of Adrenaline. If you read the book of Ezekiel you will understand why his hair was made long. It's to do with God flooding him with his sins, and he was in his blood, he made his hair grow long because no one pitied him. The blood and pressure causes Adrenaline, and it makes you strong. Adrenaline also heighten your senses. Also with David he had the 5 stones to defeat Goliath which represent your senses to fight in battle. But I am talking about spiritual battle. Jesus says when you come to your senses. Its bc they are heightened.
