Too bad they [State of Massachusetts] don’t really embrace their culture well enough, I mean Boston does but not other areas that were historically touched by Ireland. Half of Massachusetts should be able to speak Irish Gaelic since there’s actually more Irish living there than in New York and California combined, sadly only Boston does but not the other towns, cities, or neighborhoods like the so called “most Irish town of MA”: Scituate.

I know people from Massachusetts are not fond of New Yorkers, But as an Irish American from New York I still feel a kinship with Boston Irish. We are Irish Americans have had a very interesting history

Honestly it isnt even like that. There will always be a rivalry between the two cities but we actually got mad love for ny out here we just know that we got better sports teams… and pizza… and pretty much everything else. Aside from disagreeing on those few things we like ny tho.

Lovely to hear. I know many Irish dislike or even Hate Americans. I know bloodlines mix and many people have 1 ancestry they pick as an over riding choice. But, many of us, our Great Grandparents etc. Are pretty dated Irish. At least many East Coast Irish. I did my DNA test and wss pretty shocked at how Irish I truly am. I thought I was 3/4 Irish. Because one of my Great Grandfathers came to the US via Germany. Come to find out, 98.7% Irish! 🤯 It's intestinal how many American-Irish love to learn of Irish history. But, rarely do I hear the opposite. It's really great to hear! 💕🙏 from 🇺🇸

@@catdooley4616 Care to offer some examples? If you are willing to be open-minded you will find hatred & racism in every community! I lived in black communities as a non-black person and it was there. I know blacks who have lived in Latino communities, and they experienced it there. it is part of the human condition and no one is immune to it!

My Irish ancestors immigrated through Baltimore and Long Island, New York, not Boston. Still respect how Boston imbraces thier heritage.

They were likely different waves of immigration. Most of bostons irish arrived earlier than the rest of the country. Ship rides from ireland to boston were cheaper than any other city during the first waves of migration. Once prices evened out amongst cities immigration did too. Boston had a massive amount of irish immigration but it certainly wasnt the only place they were going.

@@enishalihoward8119that's why they say they're irish AMERICANS and not just irish from Ireland. I'm not irish descended but I get what they mean. It's like me, I'm a Hispanic American but in latam, people don't make a big deal about this. I still speak Spanish so they respect me. It's usually the ones that don't speak Spanish that get some mean looks.

Thank you Julie for sending me to this film , we just celebrated St Patrick’s Day here in South Boston 2023 and it was a wonderful day hundreds of thousands of people of all nationalities enjoyed a great day to be Irish , our ancestors would be proud of what South Boston has to offer , what a lucky man I am to live in such a wonderful place, Southie is My Hometown

We do have a problem with giant co-operations influencing our democracy but compared to the struggles some of the other democracies go through I would call myself and America lucky. You talk as if America is like the Netherlands or south Africa in terms of wealth distribution, nah bro, We have one of the largest household incomes in the world. I am proud of my Irish heritage but I love my country even more

@@juice8431 America is the 4th worst inequality country in the world. The difference is Netherlands has a true democracy not influenced with bribes or as your law makers call them lobbying. You have a law that allows your leaders to be bought by anyone or thing. This is not democracy atall.

I was born in 1945. My grandmother professed to be English all her life. At my father's grave at age 96 I found out for the first time that my grandparents were tinkers and ashamed of it. My Dad who hated everybody had all the slang words for every ethnicity. I was raised to think english. Too bad. In my twenties in Boston I was helping someone find an apartment. stopped a man on the street. Did he know of any place. With a thick Irish brogue he said conspiritarially, well darlin, people use realtors to keep out the "Coloreds". Yep that's Boston in 70.s

I'm a musician who loves improv. I love the gypsy way of teaching music to the children. They gave them an instrument and they played along. Best way ever to learn music. It's in my blood and I teach that way myself.

And then upon fleeing we were faced with more shite from the American public system. We weren't considered white, and we don't identify as white because of it. We are Irish

"The True Story…"? It was with ward boss Michael Matthew Cunniff (1849-1914) alliance that Hugh O'Brien became the first true Irish-American (O'Brien was actually born in Ireland, as was Cunniff) mayor of Boston. O'Brien's election would never have happened with out the alliance with Michael M. Cunniff. Why this massive ommission? It's been in the public record for almost 150 years now.

Michael Cunniff was a personal advisor and confidant of Hugh O'Brien's. It was both he and Maguire who approached O'Brien about running for Mayor. And again, O'Brien would never had beome mayor without the help of Cunniff's. Irish-American's should really learn to care more about their history. This glaring omission on the part of the "The History Channel" constitutes a lie, and not the "...True Story..." that they proclaim.

Not that comparable i think, back then the reason to hate catholic was down right silly. And overall catholic and protestant still a christian belief. Different with islam that many still has strong backlash againts it. And the forming of isis and taliban didnt really much help.

The Catholic church considered protestants to be wayward (there is a better word for this, but cant recall it) Catholics. it was their intent to bring protestants back to Catholicism, by force if necessary! So, the fear & mistrust was real & palpable. Not a trivial thing! The catholic church WAS the super power back in the day.

Boston, namely the Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan neighborhoods, had the largest population of Jews outside of NYC till the 60's and they lived side by side with the Irish without problems. Then they got blockbusted.....
