"I've been drinking Athletic Greens for two months and I feel amazing!" Please don't be convinced by stuff like this. Placebo is a hell of a drug, and it feels better to believe AG1 did something then to admit you got took for $100/month. And even if the results are real, it's likely the person had an actual deficiency in some basic essential micronutrient Athletic Greens supplies. You can get all those vitamins and minerals plus some from virtually any multi.
Indeed. To convince oneself, that *such* a huge investment was in some way justified, one would make oneself believe in anything, in order not to feel crap for throwing away so much money. 🙂
Thank you for this, I was durn close to trying this multiple times! When companies leave key things out while overloading others, I have to avoid my multivitamin or something for the day so as to not overdo certain vitamins. Missing D would be insane to get athletic greens in. I can go a bit too high in my Bs or D for the day but I won't superload any of the fat solubles like E. They sabotaged their own product.
TL:DR- the product is only good, not perfect and its way overpriced. I'm not a vegan and have no interest ever in life turning to veganism, but I was looking for a product to replace having to eat a lot of greens. Is there any products you actually approve of to fill such a niche? And if not, what's the best option of the "not good enough" products? I literally don't have the willpower to eat much greens, the textures and flavors I find vile.
Ag1, Raid shadow legends, Raecon earbuds, VPN networks,.... Wouldn't download them for the sole fact every single RU-vidr promotes them but nobody in real life seems to have/use them..
I am not a vegan nor vegetarian but have a low carb, low GI lifestyle as a pre-diabletic. But to answer a couple of your questions regarding influencers, I discovered Athletic Greens back in 2013-14 when it was simply known as Athletic Greens. I have taken and enjoyed on and off for years because the cost is, indeed, prohibitive. While the mix isn't fully dissolvable and requires some stirring or mixing while drinking, I don't find the taste terrible or the stirring before a drink a problem. When I bought AG1 last, it included a bottle of d3+k2 which could be added to the drink or in some other liquid. My point is that it has been around for quite some time - long before influencers - and seems to meet the needs for some. If I'm only going to take one supplement and compare how I feel with a good multi vs AG1, I feel better with AG1. But the price is ridiculous. And your points about the actual benefits are pretty solid! Thanks.
Good for her for declining the sponsorship and instead doing her own research on the product. This could have easily been a cash grab on her part, but she instead used it as an opportunity to actually investigate AG1 and share her findings with us👏
Investigating would have included using it herself! And if she’s so smart why doesn’t she make her own organic compound that’s better? If she knows so much she would tell you where and how to source all of the organic material that you would need to create this compound. This woman is full of crap.
you're my favorite youtuber and although I'm not vegan, you changed my perspective on food entirely. I incorporate balanced plant based meals in my diet daily. so much love to you from Egypt!
@@Doe3Love8 I do try to buy bulk for things like oats, rice and beans but that's not always possible or ideal (sometimes you get an inferior product, and also you need some room to store it). Even when I do I can only save about $50-150/yr doing that so it's not a huge savings but it does add up. It saves on waste though which I like; I got a 50lb bag of oats that came in a giant paper bag -- great!! Throw that right on the compost when it's finished. I think the oats are pretty low quality though so not sure I'll do it again with that brand. If you want to save money, the produce section is your friend. I go to the grocery store about once a month and I get everything I need for that month, lots of fruit and veg and misc things like seeds for granola or soy milk or tortillas or pasta; whatever I need. Now the trick is in keeping your fruit and veg fresh for that 3-4 weeks. Most people know if you cut the dried-out root-ends of veg and put it in a water pot it will last a lot longer. Fewer people know that if you do that same thing but in your fridge you can often get 3-4 weeks out of it if you use the wilting parts of it continually throughout that time. I had to rearrange the shelves of my fridge to make enough headroom to do this. My original layout was more conducive to lots of little packaged and canned foods. Lastly, I don't go to back to the store until my fridge is completely empty; like I-just-bought-a-new-fridge empty. This cuts down on food waste a lot and as a side benefit you never end up with some random piece of rotting food in a corner stinking up your fridge! This method of shopping relies on knowing how to cook. The most expensive things you can buy are frozen/pre-prepared meals and bottled/canned stuff. You pay a premium for that luxury (and also a garbage collector!). I like to have a salad and a pot of beans in the fridge continually to use as base ingredients for other dishes. With those I can make tacos, burritos, just salad, and beans to throw in veggie rice/pasta. Veggie rice and veggie pasta are my staples. Just cook the rice/pasta in the final pan and when it's done put in whatever chopped veggies you feel like to steam with the lid on for 2-4 min. After that add in any herbs or spices or spice-blends/pastes (I found an indian one I really like that makes anything taste like curry). The key is to cook the veggies as little as possible. They should retain their bright color and firmness. There are so many flavors and combinations possible with this. At the 3 or 4 week mark a lot of times I'll end up having to use a lot of cabbage and onions for my veggies lol. But you keep learning how much of things to buy the more you do it. It's nothing fancy but it tastes good and is satisfying. I certainly still have many things to learn and improve on in the kitchen! I kind of rambled here but maybe something in all that will help spark some ideas of your own. Best of luck!
@raspberry OK I just finished reading it ! And I SS and I handwrote notes lol Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! That's so smart abt having the fridge be empty! Thanks for all the tips !
@@Doe3Love8 Np. Don't try to change everything at once though. You risk overwhelming yourself and getting discouraged that way. Pick one thing at a time that most interests you and get it under your belt before moving on. Relaxed consistency produces better outcomes. And also if you come up with some crazy idea you think might work, try it! I think life's more fun to live that way. Take care my man!
I got the ad right at the beginning. I had to laugh. I thought it was so funny. And even so, I almost thought I clicked the wrong link, which might be the intention of the ad. Wouldn't surprise me. You really know you're being manipulated when you get a promotion for a product that's being given a thumbs down review. I consider that a big FU from the manufacturer to the reviewer and her audience.
I'm so glad you're talking about this.... After seeing soooo many ppl promoting the product, I checked it out, and the price tag alone scared me away. I'd rather just eat more fruits and veggies.....
I’ve actually used this product off and on for a while, and honestly I enjoy the taste! It’s much more palatable than most greens powders. They also generally send a bottle of vitamin D&K2 alongside the powder that you can add in when you’re mixing with water. However, I do agree that the price is quite high, and I really appreciate your in-depth scrutiny of the lack of clarity regarding ingredient details/dosages with AG1. I haven’t renewed my subscription in a bit, and I’m thinking that I may be better off with a more individualized and cost-effective approach for my supplementation after watching this!
This is a wonderful example of not selling yourself. She could have taken the money and said nice stuff about AG1 but she did the right thing and did a review she believes in. THANK YOU!
Dear Swayze. It is not too late. Even after all of these years and spreading so much misinformation about nutrition. You can still save yourself. Please read your own book. It is not the worst thing, that you have ever done. It is the best thing, that you have ever done. I really cannot understand you. It is not worth the money. If you go back to proper nutrition, which is a 100% organic raw vegan diet, then I will allow you to "juice" my "cucumber."
I started taking Deva's multi because of Swayze's suggestion so it's good to hear that they are still a good supplement, since they are relatively inexpensive
@@alohaXamanda I mean you could always not take it as often. I used to take it but when I developed photosensitivity they told me I could be taking too much B6 and then I saw that deva has 750% of the daily value and that could *potentially* be the cause. I like that it is cheap, but some of the doses are just crazy high, so if you take it I wouldn’t take it as often.
@@veronicasigchoespinoza3202 This is really great advice, thank you for pointing this out! I have photosensitivity in general and I never go to the doctor to check my levels (anxiety) so I would not have thought about this
@@alicezanini6123 I recently watched a video about their concept. Just read reviews of their customer service - it‘s bad 😅 30 day free trial, but if you don‘t cancel after 14(!!!) days: voilà, here‘s your 12 month subscription.
I happen to enjoy green, grassy sludge. I'm not kidding. But I concoct my own meadow-in-a-blender... throwing in whatever moves me: a few fists full of arugula, some lettuce, maybe a stalk of celery before it wilts, a spoonful of flaxseeds, black cumin seeds, water and a drop of apple cider vinegar. I swear I love it! It tastes like I'm drinking the great outdoors.
I tried AG1 and kept using it because of the changes in my performance (recovery), sleep improved, skin drastically improved for the first time in my adult life, and most of all digestion improvement (!!) I can afford it, I tried it and loved how I felt using it and it tastes good.. (yes it actually tastes good) so yea just need to be the voice of dissent in a sea of haters. My husband had similar results to mine and he, too, said the digestion changes are worth it alone.
Yeah but pills are more spooky! It reminds us of experts and pharmacies... And big pharma oh no! Whereas green juice reminds us of mowing the lawn and poison ivy.
I have refused to use ag1 for a long time, even though a few of my friends take it regularly, A friend of mine gave me his travel packs for free and insisted I take it, I've taken it for 4 days(as I was only given 4 travel pscks) and I have to say I just ordered my first monthly subscription, I've struggled with feeling lethargic throughout my days, moody when stressed and just an overall feeling of low energy, since I've been drinking ag1 in the mornings my sleep has been noticeably more peaceful, my energy and mood have improved more than I would ever expect, It smells like an energy drink lol, the taste is rather bland, and yes it has a slight chalky consistency but overall the benifits I've seen are worth the 2 minutes it takes to chug the cup, Just my personal experience, but as someone who went into using it expecting it not to do much I'm sold
I emailed this company a few years ago. I told them I had food allergies and intolerances but that I needed something to prop my system up. They replied telling me that the Soy in the product was 'deactivated' and my system wouldn't react to it. I did react to it.
Yeah, similar to what you said about only hearing about a product through influencers, another red flag is definitely a product website having such an aggressive sales pipeline that throws add-ons at you without much context. Companies that aren't cash-grabs relying on temporary hype will take a softer approach of showing you why you want their products, whereas companies that don't expect repeat customers organically will try to funnel people into making a purchase as fast as possible and slip a subscription service in there with a lower price to basically trick people into giving them repeat business. Thanks for talking about this. These hype-based products don't get called out enough imo.
I don’t see the difference between Athletic Greens and the green powders you can get at Whole Foods. For what they all cost you might as well get some fruits and veggies from the store, and make your own juice. Some spinach/cucumber/broccoli/mint/apple/ginger, some pineapple or orange if you want some extra sweetness, and there you go.
I started taking Athletic Greens off of the fact that Andrew Huberman uses them as a "paid sponsor". I feel great after taking AG1 first thing in the morning after being up for an hour or so. Thank you for talking you made me think about it.
I would feel very weird promoting a product that I wouldn't buy for myself. And I can't imagine anyone organically buying such an expensive product even if they actually believed the claims
For the most part, those multi-million-subscribers' _influenzas_ do not really care for the "minor" stuff, such as integrity. For the correct amount of money, they are likely to promote absolutely anything. Should not wonder if, in five or ten years, we'll see a large number of them in politics. 😕
There are some advantages to something like a greens powder over a multivitamin. The form of the nutrients can be more absorbable and you also get other healthy plant compounds that are great antioxidants and anti-inflammatories. That said, it doesn't mean it's a substitute for a healthy diet or for a supplement regime that's tailored to individual needs, according to a medical professional. I've been taking barley grass powder for a while now, and it's made a big improvement to my health. I live with several pretty severe chronic illnesses and I find the barley grass helps add nutrients to my mostly-vegan diet, especially on the days I'm too sick to prepare healthy, balanced meals. It's given me more energy. I buy unflavoured barley grass powder in bulk, because that is cheapest for me. The taste is... well I wouldn't say it's pleasant - I call it my Swamp Juice lol - but it's much less unpleasant than other green powders, especially wheatgrass. I will continue taking it because it makes me feel so much better, but I can understand if for some people, these sorts of supplements are not worth the cost.
Thank you for this! Seeing trusted RU-vidrs like Dr. Dray promoting this again and again (‘She’s a doctor so it must be good!’) annoys the hell out of me. And the price is just insane.
Yes, this bothers me about her too. But what should we expect? She is a big proponent of consumerism in general, via her frequent 'shopping in national chain stores' videos.
@@heidih3048 I wouldn't mind that she takes us along to show us cheaper options. I don't live in the US so those could help me find products I don't have available locally but it seems like the US free time sport of shopping for the sake of shopping because you lead an empty substanceless life and have nothing else.
I’m currently still using it…. But after your video I’m canceling my subscription. It’s not like I feel it doesn’t do anything for me. But it doesn’t do enough for it’s price. The taste isn’t that bad to fair. It’s taste like pineapple with a bit of earthy tones I don’t mind drinking it. I feel like I should’ve done more research and your video made that pretty clear. So thank you I’m gonna save some money again and probably feel the same. 😂
Thanks for this breakdown! I've been suspicious of AG1 since it became every YTer's sponsor - that automatically smelled like a scam to me; so now I know it's a dodgy, overpriced one. I make my own green powder from dehydrated greens - I know EXACTLY what goes into my body. I also make a lot of my own spice mixtures for the same reason...
Hej, I took Athletic Greens (before they rebranded as AG1 and before all of the crazy marketing) for several months. The taste was really ok to yummi. Not comparable to other greens powders I tasted. I recognized several positive effects, no sleepy afternoons anymore, I needed less sleep in general and felt pretty good in my body. Other people who tried it confirmed my experience 🤷♀️ I stopped taking it regularly because of thoughts around dependence (mental and kinda physical dependence - > body gets used to and then needs the high dosage if vitamins and stuff) and the price. But I canceled the description when they rebranded as AG1 I felt annoyed as hell cause it felt like nearly every ad on yt was from AG1. Still feel it this way. The huge ad campaigne reminds me of brainwashing people like me who already eat pretty well 🤦♀️I actually lost my trust in this company due to that 😅 now they seem like a scam to me
@@Max4Z They probably didn't. The body develops tolerance to substances when those substances affect receptors for hormones and neurotransmitters. This is because when your receptors are being impacts, your body makes more or less of them in an attempt to maintain homeostasis, which results in needing more of the substance in order to achieve the same effect. For example, caffeine dependence develops because caffeine makes adenosine receptors less sensitive to adenosine. Adenosine is what makes you feel sleepy, so this is part of why caffeine helps to wake you up in the morning. The body makes more adenosine receptors to try and compensate for the decrease in sensitivity. This counteracts the effect of the caffeine, so you need to drink two cups in the morning instead of one. Vitamins don't do this because they don't act on our receptors. They play a role in chemical reactions in the body, and chemical reactions
Regarding all of the micronutrients, why not just take a generic multivitamin, instead? They’re usually $10-$15 and contain around 300 capsules. This is like a powdered, overpriced multivitamin 🧐
There's a part of me that wishes I could just drink a magic powder and get all my nutrients, but when I started looking into AG1 I was kind of like, this is a LOT of every vitamin... on top of the food I already eat. At best I'll pee it all out, at worst it might cause problems, who knows? The price was the nail in the coffin lol
my boyfriend got this stuff cause he is prone to falling for wellness marketing. but he’s terrible at taking anything daily, so now we’ve racked up 4 months worth of this stuff. i’ve been drinking it just because it’s sitting in my fridge, it’s definitely tasty i’ll give it that!
Haha that’s hilarious. You’ve got a gold mine in your fridge. I don’t have a lot of money and was super mindful of when I took it to to take full advantage, savouring every scoop. Amassing 4 months is amazing to me !! 😂
@@evedotcom he remembers to eat a gummy multivitamin daily but the athletic greens is completely untouched. I’m on a student budget so it’s been a real treat to enjoy his stash of AG1!
I was SOOOO CLOSE to getting AG1 because of Andrew Huberman...even though he admitted he wasn't sure if it was effective. AND when I went to their webpage, I noticed what YOU did...no info, just a grab at getting the sale done. On top of the price...I just couldn't do it. I also have tried drinking spirulina and the package that I bought actually said that it was "DELICIOUS!" OMG it tasted just like a funky, abandoned aquarium smells! ooooooof!~
I use AG1 and really like it. The powder dissolves easily and tastes not bad. It expensive, but I've tried other super food shakes and feel this product is better than the rest. Vitamin D is an oil so not possible in a dry powder.
I wondered if there’s anything special about their product. I was surprised not more of the ingredients were organic. What’s the thing about their product that sells people on it?
I don’t like that you don’t know what is effecting what. When you take individual vitamins, you can isolate what is helping you versus what is not. No Vitamin D is a problem for me. Very little Vitamin B12 is a problem for me. No Turmeric No Alpha Lipoic Acid Very Expensive Thanks for your honest review. You confirmed what I already knew.
I tried it for a couple months, and idono if I felt much benefit, except I started to feel shitty until I stopped it. Honest to God. Doctors and I concluded it was the ashwaganda. Which is controversial to take everyday. I did like the taste and the texture wasnt that bad.
My husband bought this and was very much sucked into the marketing around it - he was convinced you could not get any other product that was a good as this one. We are based in Australia, so it cost us even more than $100 to order some (we paid $180 AUD for one month supply 😮). HOWEVER, what I will say is that my husband is super lazy at getting good food into his diet, and I wasn’t against him trying something that might “boost” his lacking diet 😂. That said, I ended up finding a product VERY similar that you can buy here in Australia for a fraction of the cost ($60AUD for about 1.5 month worth). I got him to compare the ingredients/benefits and when he could see they were near identical, he switched over. I completely agree that you can (& should) get all the vitamins and minerals for just from having a healthy diet, but I know my hubby will never go to that effort, and I do think having something like this as a booster for those who don’t eat particularly well is not exactly a bad thing. I’d def shop around and find a cheaper alternative to this overpriced product!
@TheSparkleina Both were fine (the AG greens, and the cheaper one I found). They both have powdered apple in it which gives it a pleasant enough flavour.
Agreed. The issue with telling people to “just eat your greens” is a bit frustrating considering most people seek these products since getting all nutrients from greens isn’t realistic.
When COVID first broke, I had just started chemo and a friend had some leftover "Huel" powder. They said "I didn't like this, you might. Please stay out of stores." So far, so good. I have one smoothie-thing for breakfast, and like the taste.
It seemed dodgy to me too, but enough scientists I trust take it (namely Andrew Huberman) for me to justify giving it a go. I actually found it legitimately tasty when I added lemon juice and ice, to the point I was excited to have it each morning. I took it at a time when I had just started working intensely after being unemployed and had other lifestyle changes all at once so its hard to measure just how much better I felt from it. It was nice to feel like a lot of my bases were covered and I was getting this big boost of nutrients. I stopped taking it because it was so pricey, though I had planned to buy it again when I was in the financial position. After watching this I’m not so sure! Thank you for sharing alternatives that you use, I’m going to look into them 💛
Just did some calculations in Australian dollars and for the supplements you take it comes to about $50 a month, as opposed to AG1 which is $150 !!! Insanity.
Thank you for the honest comment! Honestly, I feel like it shows us that even a person like Huberman is not infallible. My partner had a similar experience to the one you described with a similar product ($60/month). He tried to convince me to take it as well. Instead, I started taking a multi, and drank a tall glass of water with a little lemon juice first thing in the morning while sitting down and just staring into space for 5 minutes. I got the same benefits he did, for less than $10/month. I think just the effect of proper rehydration after sleep, a little ritual and a multi will cover 90% of the effects of these expensive supplements.
Thank you! I was looking for a B complex and considered this drink because of all the hype. I also heard Joe Rogan takes or owns AG1. So thought it would be a 'good'. But, I don't have the $ that Joe Rogan has and I don't like the mystery around the ingredients. So thank you so much!
very good video! Thanks for the fact checking. I bought 1 bag, and for 2 weeks, if you asking for changes, hmm. not significant changes, but i do feel a little bit energized, i said "a little bit", because i used to easily feel tired, but now seems the tiredness is gone a little bit, so most of the time, i am on normal energy. But still, this is hard to say, because 2 weeks ago, i started to go to the gym to do proper weight training... previously i was home gym. so, maybe have effects, or maybe not...i really cant tell, could be placebo. my other half said. it has 0 effects... but here is thing, it is already quite honest about the ingredients, 99% of the green powder there do not tell you how much VITAMINE are there, and when they do, it usually just pathetic...AG1 is the highest one. any recommened green powders? i think the most value from green powder seems to be encourage you to drink 1 cup of water in the morning, really.... any kind of vegetable consumption would be way more beneficial.
I liked the idea of AG1 so I went and got a generic greens powder for 1/3 the price, works well in my daily fruit/protein smoothie. Plus I put definitely more than 1g of ginger in it :D
$100 = 2 green beans What do you think about the powder plant protein called Pure Food? They claim to be a small business and shows very very very limited ingredients. I'd be curious to hear from an actual some what real person
As a small reward your video triggered me to subscribe to your channel. Good work here. Trouble is, anyone who is paying $108 / mo for this without real investigation will not see this.
The lead part is really concerning. Lead can accumulate in fatty tissue and if you later for some reason starts burning that fat you can get a much higher dose which can lead too lead poisoning.
not telling us the amounts should be against the law, we should have a right to know the exact measurements that go into our food and supplements. I hope it changes someday
Yeah, AG sponsors a pundit podcast I listen to. While I'm not suspicious of them politically (maybe I should be...), every time I hear the ad, I immediately think "there's no way you understand what you're saying." Then again, I'm also that b* who makes it a rule to NOT buy from a sponsor brand.
I drank AG1 for over a year! It does taste AMAZING, I do not like vegetables, which is why I chose a Greens powder. Gives me great morning energy to power runs without needing caffeine. I feel awesome, less bloated, etc. I stopped drinking it due to expense and have been trying to find a cheaper alternative. However, I am now figuring how to work the expense back in because it IS the best Greens powder. Stop hating with your ignorant review of a product you haven't even tried. You sound stupid.
I’ve been drinking AG1 for at least 2yrs. So, well before the shilling began. It seems like they recently hired a new marketing team and that’s why AG1 seems to have come from nowhere. The taste was not great at first, but it’s an acquired taste. It does require much stirring. I still supplement B12 and D3. Vegan for 6yrs.
2 yrs has it worked better for u than a supplement or green powder? I always have some form of green powder during the winter because I don't want a salad and hate cooked kale and spinach 😖
@@forever_seeking it’s honestly difficult to know how well supplements are working. But recent blood tests show all my levels are perfect. My hair, skin, and nails are great, too. In fact, I struggle to keep my nails short. They are so hard, shiny and long. Take that info and do what you will ☺️
I’m so glad to see you talk about this brand!! I see it everywhere and haven’t bothered to look into myself because I’ve been fooled too many times by these expensive green drink products to fall for it again
Sooo this is cheesy. But! You’ve really inspired me, since the beginning of the year I’ve been transitioning to a more plant based diet. With veganism as the end goal. Working 60 hours a week on a construction site, it’s been difficult. But 99% of my meals at home (and take to work lunches) are vegan! And meals out are vegetarian/vegan if there’s an option. I don’t really discuss my diet with others because I work in a very male saturated work environment. But my mom is kind of coming around to it and since I’m the main cook in the house, she’s enjoying some of the meals I’m making now! You’ve really inspired and showed me going vegan doesn’t have to be hard and it doesn’t have to encompass my whole life. Thank you so much!
Thanks for your video. I hope I’m allowed to subscribe as I do eat some meat but love to listen to all side of views and make sure to know the exact origins of my all my food.
I actually tried it myself so I can tell you that it tastes good it's not gritty it mixes very easily and after several weeks I have noticed that a lot of things have improved for me my sleep, my gut health and my mental ability, and more energy. I'm able to focus better and longer and I've become more productive. So while you're snarky intro confesses that you haven't tried it you may want to just try something first before reviewing it because it's really good.
I have been using AG1 for months. I like it. I used to manage the different vitamins I take, but taking so many capsules and tablets is very irritating my stomach. Then I started looking for multivitamin, and they irritate my stomach, too. At least AG1 doesn't do that. I like the powder to liquid format. It's gentle on my stomach. I don't mind the price because I add everything up of all the supplements I take, it's expensive anyway. As for the taste, it tastes like candy comparing to traditional Chinese herbal medicine. One taste of that, you'll shut up about everything else you used to complain and stop being a baby. I can understand why they don't add iron in it. Not everybody needs iron. A healthy non-vegan/vegetarian male does not need to supplement iron. They actually will get into trouble if they have too much iron in their system.
Great comment, and similar experience. And I was spending more than the $79/month subscription on supplements, at one point taking 40+ pills a day to get everything. AG1 is actually cheaper, tastes good, and makes me feel good. Maybe it's not for everyone, but I like it.
My partner is such a sucker for these things, currently buying Rheal Clean Greens 🤦🏼♀️ I'd love a video debunking them so I can finally convince him he'd be better taking a multivitamin 🤣
I don’t know if this is in your realm, but I was wondering if Linda Sun has a lot of illegal sponsorships? Like I feel like she almost never mentions in a video that something is an ad
With my subscription to AG, I got a a bottle of vitaminD with vitamin K2 in an oil with dropper. I’m 76 years old and not very energetic. Every day I feels exhausted around 3 pm and take an 1 ½ to 2 hour nap. about 6 or 7 weeks after I started taking AG it hit me that I was not taking naps and I started to clean my condo more often. I went out for walks. I feel much more energetic
They ought to offer a sample pack so people could see if it's even drinkable or not. The fact that you have to jump right into an investment of that amount shows their true colors.
Ive tasted it- it actually just tastes like green flavored water. The taste is not nearly as intense as green juice. Its kinda sweet but it just felt like i was consuming expensive dirt water
Yeah - a lot of those are sketchy. Keep in mind that an issue with a lot of supplements is absorption/bioavailability. It is complicated like all things nutrition. Some stuff is better absorbed in combo with other stuff. Some stuff is blocked when in combo with other stuff. Some stuff is better assimilated better in some gut conditions. The 'science' on multis is pretty sad. 5 years ago, it seemed like folate is the only one with a solid 'yep, it works...it works like it's 'sposed work. Seems because it was 5 years ago on a show where a doctor reviewed supps and I recall being disappointed by fish oil supplements. A caveat here is that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. The fish oil supplements "don't work" thing was based on studies looking specifically for better cardio/vascular health as measured by morality in the groups. Some, I think showed worse outcomes, but that was just a "hmm..we need to look into this further" than a actionable conclusion. In general, foods seem to be the best source of nutrition. Big surprise. :) It is also kind of a bummer that even food varies a lot. How is it prepared? Cooking makes some stuff more available and destroys other stuff. Then you have your 'anti-nutrients' that block absorption of some nutrients. (see Oatmeal and Beans for details) In short, the more I learn about nutrition, the easier it is to focus on just eating a good mix of unprocessed stuff. Oh yeah, I think fiber supplements like psi husk and inulin did what they were supposed to do, but, again, these were studies conducted within the 'science' framework, so they were very specific about what they were measuring and didn't claim that they were magic. They showed that some members of the microbiome increased and others decreased and that some had an immediate effect on bile secretions. So I remain hopeful that we'll eventually figure out the best synergies for diet and supplementation, but right now, the 'just eat food, mang. Unprocessed. For meat, hunt stuff in the wild 'cause they are not fed filler calories like corn" Even effin eggs have a huge variation in nutrient content. Factory farmed ones can have significantly lower levels of the omega 3 stuff - same with factory beefs. It is unfortunate that the amount of a nutrient is very misleading because sometimes it is just a precursor like beta carotene which is semi-crap compared to cod liver oil's payload of vitamin A. I am also kinda bummed that meat seems to be part of our evolution and it seems to be a better source for several key vitamins. again, I am hopeful that we'll eventually crack the synergies. Meat just seems super wasteful and even more so if you insist on free-range stuff. Is our future in insects until we get the biochem figured out? I am not a vegetarian or vegan, but I most often eat that way and really don't love meat or the idea of it. It is just kinda ugly that we are very much predatory creatures. We are capable of such evil badness and it is hard to make peace with that. We're killers. It is part of how we survived this long and will probably be our undoing. Fvck.
I still have a full bag of spirulina, I tried to drink a teaspoon dissolved in a glass of water with some lemon juice. It was horrible. it's been like two months since then and I don't have the courage to try it again.
8:57 XDD Me I put some lemon in the water to get vitamin C, I use cronometer and I'm always at like 20% daily recommended of vitamin C (not counting the lemon-water)
I was just wondering about the dosage concerns. Imagine you decide to not take supplements, and get all your minerals and vitamins from food. In order to do this, you pick certain foods over others because you know which foods contain nutrients that you need/want to eat at that time. There is absolutely no way to know for sure how much of those nutrients are actually in that piece of food you are eating. I know there is vitamin C in fruit, but how much exactly my orange has, I cannot know. You just eat the orange and expect the vitamin C to be absorbed, and if it is too much, you pee it out. That is how I look at Athletic greens, I don't know the exact dosages, but I do know that it contains a bunch of nutrients. The ones I'm able to absorb, I use, the rest I pee out. I don't think this nutrition is an exact science, these dosages depend on each person individually and on specific circumstances. When it comes to cost, I don't drink it every day, I drink it mostly at work when I know I have late meetings and I can't cook for myself. That is my general approach to supplementation, I take what I think I missed that day. If I exercise, it's magnesium. If I spend lots of time inside, then high dosage of vitamin D ( which you get for free with AG1 btw, a year long supply of Vitamin D and Vitamin K2, just use Lex' or Huberman's link ) I usually do 2 months with 1 order of AG1, which comes down to 43 euro per month. Considering the vitamins and peace of mind ( I tend to worry about my nutrient intake ), I would say that's worth the cost. I think buying supplements is like buying a new mattress, do you really want to save money on something you use every day?
Tried it. I had an allergic reaction. I've never had an allergic reaction to food I've eaten so this was a "new experience." It tasted okay. Not bad or horrible. In searching online it looks like I wasn't the only one to experience this. When I reported this to AG1 they contacted me pretty quickly; refunded and cancelled my subscription too. A part of me feels I should probably report this higher cuz there's gotta be more to this.
What might be the most amusing thing about this AG1 stuff is that, between a bulk section of a store like Sprouts and a high quality multivitamin, you could make basically the exact same mix for yourself and it wouldn't come anywhere close to the cost.
A lot of people mentioning this Huberman guy, a quick Google shows he literally works for AG1. Sounds like he doesn't disclose this, which is enough of a red flag. I work for a reputable supplement company, this is over hyped nonsense.
I'm pretty sure unless you have absorption issues in the gut, 1000 mcg B12 once per week orally is plenty. This is what I take and my blood results are optimal for B12.
I haven't tried AG1 but I've tried similar (thankfully cheaper.) the sediment thing is real. I think some of the powders are just not finely ground enough which I don't understand. The taste wasn't grassy at all. Honestly just neutral tasting, but not like water lol. I mix it with some juice. I want the idea of this kind of thing to work because I want to take adaptogens but taking huge smelly pills everyday, possibly multiple times a day was getting so uncomfortable. Some multi's and adaptogens like ashwagandha just have a a smell I can't get over. A few pills here and there is fine but I can't do that everyday. I did really well on liquid vitamins but those are just as expensive and don't have the adaptogens. Now that I've learned the quantity is so low of these supplements it's probably like not taking them at all, I don't think I'll purchase it again. I personally liked the convenience of it and the one I take does have vitamin D and iron and I think is more nutritionally complete than AG1 from a multivitamin standpoint.
