shoutout to my fellow very real and very different commentary creators

Saying “all commentary RU-vidrs give the same takes” feels like an odd gripe especially with the whole Colleen balinger drama. I think everyone should have the same take of “this woman did a bad thing” considering the thing she did was bad.

In stead of apology videos let’s normalize confessing-to-your-crimes videos

i think that commentary youtube is extremely over saturated. They’re not all the same, but there’s just too many for these channels to grow. It also causes a lot of dog piling and seeing the exact same video over and over. But saji is definitely a diamond in the rough.

Ironically, this is a very unique and clever video. Taking your anxieties about not being individual enough and making it into an entertaining video is a great idea.

When you started talking about not being a clone, I wondered if multiple commentary youtubers were going to all post this same video with the same script. That would fuck me up

I think in some instances the “topic redundancy” of certain commentary sub-spheres is what forces the uniqueness of each individual creator. The entire community is like one large debate team. Yes, they are “debating” on the same side of a given topic but they’re bringing up different points, evidence, and arguments in different styles (whether that discrepancy from the norm is editing style, deliverance, succinctness, etc). Seeing the same topic innumerable times but with different specific takes isn’t redundancy; it’s informative in the sense that each creator, with their unique lived experiences, will bring a different consequence of the topic to the table.

there’s going to be multiple creators in each genre of youtube. whether it’s commentary, gaming, volging, etc., there are going to be multiple people. that’s why a lot of the times it seems like all commentary (or any youtubers) do the same thing because there are so many, it tends to dog pile.

i just think that thumbnails are designed to cater to the algorithm and despite being similar, commentary youtubers have different styles of editing, comedy, layouts, etc.

Of all the videos to complain about lack of originality, they chose the one were everyone has the same reaction of "wow Colleen is awful" like of course people are going to have the same thoughts on the matter, what she did is terrible. Plus the thumbnails being similar makes sense because her entire video looks like that.

okay but I wanna say, you are the first brown commentary creator, and as a brown person it literally made me so happy, because representation but also you're so aesthetic like you like steve, have record players, like music, have curly hair like while it may seem that their is a struggle to feel different, your still like special even without trying. Idk what I'm trying to say, but when I found this channel that was the best thing ever. :)
