This is so weird. The other guy had it for 2 years, who knows what conditions he kept it in. Im all for bashing DK Oldies when they deserve it, but this doesnt seem to be one of those times.

2 years of using a console and never opening it up to clean it you will see a decent amount of dust.

In the US, it is illegal for the manufacturer to void the warranty if a “warranty sticker” is removed. It’s just used as a scare tactic to keep people from tampering with the product.

I do electronic repairs and that game cube has never been refurbished.

So crazy! I was just at the store 20 min ago. And at the start they talk about families stop and want to see the store. Yeah... I was just in the store with my family lol passing by!

sooo from the 2 year of tech repair ive been doing and cleaning these consoles this is very common dust even for a couple years the dirt inside has alot to do with the home they are in. but if you see corrosion ,damaged component or a very think layers and layers chances are it was never properly cleaned

I wouldn’t compare a 2 year old console as a dk oldies one. I live in Vegas and I can dust and a week later it looks like never dust 😂

Rick kisses up to Joey too much and is afraid to talk bad about DK Oldies. They're the worst. If I were to overpay for a console, game, controller or anything gaming related I would go on Amazon.

Regarding DK Oldies, I think it's perfectly fine to charge a premium price for a premium product, but they clearly haven't been delivering that premium product, at least not consistently. There's no way that build-up in the gamecube is just from 2 years post-cleaning. You don't get little cobwebs and dust build up like that, even playing with it daily.

I've got a decent amount of stuff from DK oldies I checked and made sure it was all legit and it is all working great years after and the insides were clean and you can tell refurbished. I think people who have never actually bought anything from them just are like most internet people who dogpile on top of stuff just to do it. Not saying they haven't had issues, from my personal experience no issues.

This review has to be the dumbest review out there about the dkoldies gear. Its like comparing a CarMax "refurbed" car and bought by someone 2 years later and seeing what kind of work the mechanic did back then. idiotic.

So your buddy Phoenix Resale is selling at or in some cases above DK Oldies prices on Amazon. As far as I can tell he is testing and maybe cleaning but not refurbishing.

If a console is opened up and cleaned then sits on a shelf not being used, there shouldn't be any dust build up inside it no matter how long its sat. Dust is pullled into a console via the intake for the cooling fan, while in use

Well technically there’s three categories of stores like this, there’s your store that sells used consoles that you don’t mess with except maybe testing and blowing out the dust, DK Oldies that has refurbished consoles ( supposedly ), and a game store I go to called Classic Game Junkie in Glenside, PA that actually does repairs and tries to revive consoles. I like Classic Game Junkie because they’ll legit try to fix your stuff, might take some time since there’s only one repair tech and the owner who does the repairs, but still if it can be fixed they’ll do it. Repairs can be abit expensive, but you got to count for parts and labor to get it done.

Well your consoles are over priced too, I'll go on internet and buy any console you sell for less $$ so quit hating and just do your job

You should order some stuff from them to truely test if it clean a gamecube that sat for 1y or so is not a good example of there work ordering its streight to you then you have more proof just saying !

There seems to be a wide misuse and misunderstanding of the term “refurbished” which is being misconstrued to mean “reconditioned”. In most cases Refurbished electronics means that the device has been externally cleaned and reaccessorized, and reboxed/repackaged. What you are referring to about opening the console and cleaning it inside is part of a reconditioning process. This is not refurbishing. If all they are doing it cleaning it from the outside, reaccessorizing it and repackaging it, they are for all intents and purpose refurbishing the console, not reconditioning it (which is what you are really referring to). In this case they are technically not lying. I think that many people don’t fully understand the distinction between these two processes and get them crossed in translation.

I mean, two years is two years, but that's an excessive amount of dust inside the system for only 2 years to a year and a half. Regardless, I think DKOldies is absolutely NOT worth your money, especially for their ridiculous prices and blatant lies in their advertising.

by the way, are you still selling this gamecube in the store? You mention you don't sell consoles which have been opened up to still offer a guarantee to your customers. So are you planning to trade away this particular gamecube, since now you have opened it? :D

question time: They took the DK Oldies GameCube in on trade. but they don't opened consoles. but DK oldies opened it to refurb it. So, can they not sell it based on his own policy? Secondly, Rick opened it up on video...does that mean they cannot sell it since THEY opened it? Just curious.

DK Oldies just hoard consoles they snap up every Xbox known to man every Nintendo NES, every N64 ect every game cube. Obviously I'm being sarcastic but it doesn't help when there's 2 options either a "Refurbished" N64 for $550 or a cheaper console for $50 which one you gonna choose.

If you want $50 for a ps2 at a flea market / garage sale I’m passing. Reason being I’ve bought to many with bad lasers. They can go bad over the years even when just sitting. So I pay $20-$30 typically and when I do get one that’s bad I can still get $30-$40 out of it and not take a loss. Plus trying to sell a $90 ps2 takes forever

No. Never do PS2s and stuff need to be like $200! Anyone who thinks DKoldies "clean" it and refurbish it is clearly not watching even newer videos. Few weeks ago I had a subscriber say their Xbox 360 fried after a month of use and almost started a fire.

I ordered a NES from DK oldies and right off the bat no games would work. thought it was AV cables, TV, i even tried 5 different games and nothing. opened it up and found screws missing, and nothing was cleaned. I swapped out the 72 pin connector (they said it was new)and hadn’t had a problem since.

Favorite villain is Lord Zedd ofcourse. So if you don't refurbish consoles does that mean that you'll slowly stop selling OG Xbox consoles since those capacitors will leak and started to leak on a lot of consoles already?

Bestway to know is to buy from them directly. If that is a console that was owned for 2 years before dk. Thats actually pretty clean for having a bit of dust in it. But still dk is a ripoff i would never buy from them.

Why don’t you get a GameCube directly from DK and do a fair assessment? So much time has gone by since the other person got it from DK that it’s not fair to asses the condition solely on DK.

The reality is that everyone, even thrift stores, sell games for eBay prices unless you can get one that doesn't know what they have such as the difference between CIB and Loose lol.

I wouldn't think any console would accumulate that much crud in 2 years, unless it's a full dirt surrounded property and the windows and doors were kept open. That, or it sat on 30 year old carpet. That's a ton of crud. A smoker's environment could make it worse. I've never messed with that company, but I've seen plenty of videos about them, this seems online with what most everyone else claims. But hey, could be worse, Asus is trying to charge people a fortune for non-issue items during warranty claims. GN just had a great video about that yesterday

I've only got one thing from DKOldies and it was a Sega 32X. I tried to purchase it twice from two different eBay sellers but both times I wound up with a dud and had to return it. I saw that DKOldies had a 32X and it wasn't that much more expensive and got it from them. The unit still works fine. This is only anecdotal and maybe a lot of their stuff is way overpriced and maybe they do sell a lot of junk. Just my experience with them.

Opening a console and wiping it down with a wet wipe isn’t a refurbished console. Also charging $250 for an original Xbox because some cheap lazy guy cleaned it for 2 minutes is not worth my money. Id rather just buy it used, test it and clean it my self for 1/3 if that price 😂

Not taking opened and/or refurbished consoles in trade can be a double edged sword with a lot of the Gen 6 and up consoles. With GameCube, the laser can be unreliable due to failing caps on the disc drive. The Xbox is a disaster waiting to happen if the time clock cap is not removed and the caps replaced if bulging. The Xbox DVD drives are starting to have read errors due to failing caps on the disc drive. The 360 is starting to see consoles with failing caps more often now. With my personal collection alone, I have 3 or my 8 Xbox consoles (one being a debug kit) that have had the caps fail and all have had leaking clock caps. One needed trace repair to get the power and eject to work. I can’t imagine that it will be long before it is not viable to sell those consoles without opening up and doing necessary maintenance on them to keep them up and running. Any pre 1.6 Xbox without the clock cap removal is a waste of money to buy as it may literally be dissolving traces and nearby components from that acidic capacitor leaking and not being cleaned up.

I dont think you can fairly judge something thats been sitting for 2 years. Ive seen PS5s "recently bought" that are gross. Where was it sitting? Was it played? Way too many factors that are unonown but hey mentioning DKOldies will get you clicks so whatever.

I feel like you are being really unfair here. I've seen PCs that after 1-2 years have 10x the dust in them from not being cleaned. You can't stick the inside being dusty on DK Oldies after someone owned the system for close to 2 years.

Not a chance that has ever been refurbished. That dust is so caked on it's at least 5+ years old. I would guess most of the really hardened on dust was formed shortly after it was purchased new. DK Oldies likely only opens broken consoles, so if its a working item, there is a good chance the only dust getting cleaned is what is directly under the casing, if they even do that.

I don't know if you'll see this Rick, but to me refurbished means that something was wrong with it and it was fixed before being sold. Also, you didn't touch on the condition of games from dk oldies.. IE, you are expecting good condition and you get a beat up label.

Im not trying to hate but, its pretty wild to me that you just got a 2 year old console & went on about DK Oldies. Seems like you just took any excuse you could get to throw him under for cheap views. Not a fan of that bs ngl. Still would never buy from them because, im not gonna throw my money in the toilet when I can find em cheap on Marketplace sometmes & clean them myself.

I think game stores need to put more investment in these old consoles. Their entire market is dependent on people having these consoles. Without them the games are useless without one I’d just emulate. Also I wouldn’t touch a OG xbox that hasn’t been opened up unless it’s like 2004 or later. Even if it works that clock capacitor is a ticking time bomb.

Mr Burns is the best villain of the 90s. DK Oldies sucks. They show themselves cleaning consoles for content but don't do it for everyone. They also store consoles on the floor stacked onto each other. They invest very little into the storage. Your store looks like the way one would store and display. They show the disorganized storage on their videos. They also ship games in polys lol and skimp on protective supplies when shipping.

Not that I live anywhere near there, but I was curious, and it looks like it costs $50 for entry on Sat, or $60 for the full weekend, I'm shocked anyone would be willing to shell that much money out just to gain entry and still have to spend over ebay prices to the vendor there.

Dk oldies has a huge window return policy. As a store owner myself I would never offer that long. You don't know conditions of people's homes. I wouldn't buy from dk oldies but if you feel comfortable spending more with that free warranty go for it and leave them alone!

DK Oldies seemed to have taken the criticism and changed their ways so far. They also have a pretty fun facebook account so I enjoy that. I have done one order with them which was a rare Atari 2600 game I didn't have. The game came in safe and sound and looked clean so I don't have much of a beef with them.

Imo they never refurbished the inside of that gamecube, you should of seen the "refurbished" PS3 they gave to Jacob R which looked like a desert on the inside lol To be fair they may of changed now that everyone has called them out for not refurbishing consoles but I wouldn't buy from them personally

If dude had it for 2 years - how clean is his house? My house is clean and I have to clean my gaming pc at least once a year. Everybody likes to bash DK, but their still in business. They must be doing something right.

Buy a few refurbished consoles from dkoldies, do an unboxing and opening video in the same way and you'll see if they came to you with the internals cleaned and dust-free. That's the only way to know for sure. Any amount of time that the gamecube was running and stored openly could have contributed to the collected dust you found inside.

Do you only buy used consoles that have their serial number still on them? Otherwise you could be selling stolen goods. Very informative video thanks. :)
