No matter when I buy something from Marketplace, I always ask if they'll go lower. In this case, I would have just paid the $100 she was asking for and bounced.
Definitely no shame in the game. It’s the responsibility of the buyer and seller to conduct proper research. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Like they say, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure.
Hey Rick your content is amazing and I love it when is the next time your going to be in Texas I have a pretty big collection of stuff that I think you would be interested in
I give them my offer that I'm willing to pay, but I tell them what they could get for it if they put the time in to sell things off. More often than not, they just want to unload their stuff and aren't worried about getting rich off of it. Honesty and transparency will get you better deals than anything else.
Ex Dust and Fume extraction engineer/ fabricator here: You need to be conscious about airflow restrictions and inefficiencies ! your ductwork is already inefficient due to the 90 degree junctions and adding decorations to the vents will only compound that issue. Having a fan capable of handling an excess load is important, as well as 45 degree spigots coming off the main run to improve airflow and reduce pressure. something to consider :)
I believe what most of you here in the comments are "accidentally on purpose" forgetting is that there have been legit examples of sellers, who Rick himself has mentioned on this channel, that end up with a modest collection of games due to a death in their life. The seller may have no real knowledge about games, let alone how to even begin to research what they have in terms of value. If you are out "hunting" for games, like Rick does, you are most certainly going to know the approximate value of something you come across. Most of Rick's sellers only hunt for games to flip for a profit. It would seem Rick's character is levels above anyone here who agreed with giving the lady only the $100, or $120. Why? How many of you here remember the countless times Rick has been completely transparent and honest with his sellers? He will tell you exactly how much your game is worth (even if that means his profit margin lessons significantly) and will not low ball or cheat his customers! Rick, too, has a family to feed! Does he stay mute when a seller asks for far less than a game is worth so he can get over? Absolutely not! He has earned his success by demonstrating more virtue than most of you. Bottom line... choose virtue over value. In the end, you still made a damn profit, even if it is only a few dollars.
I found a cib gameboy game while looking through a lady’s collection. She had no idea it was worth 2-300$; ended up giving her about 150 after letting her know it was worth more than the $10 she was asking
I know this is an unpopular opinion but when I get a N64 game that someone wrote on back in the day I like leaving it on the game. I feel like it adds character and its part of that specific games history. Especially when its the name of the owner. I had my name on all my games back than.
They put the time and the effort into cleaning the games as well as the uncertainty that the games would work. Paying up is always a plus if you can / if you want too but it’s not required you satisfied her offer and gave some on top.
It’s your responsibility to do research on what you’re selling but if it looked like the seller was in need I would have paid a bit more especially if it’s a quick flip.
Retro Rick’s store was dead on arrival. Just a matter of time. Once you start promoting that you are a Bible thumper… gamers don’t believe in fairy tales !
I once got a marketplace deal for a boxed complete Mint NES with a bunch of games and a Master System 1 with a load of games, some of which were pretty rare heavy hitters. Paid the seller double what they were asking for the lot and I still got a amazing deal. If I know I'm getting a deal I'll usually pay over asking. I was always brought up with the mindset that you get back what you give out. Worked out pretty well so far.
They posted it they had the opportunity to look up everything if they wanted to. I would’ve taken it for the offering price which is amazing deal and that’s why we do this.
