Personal training is unfortunately a field that many can give a bad name. From the “fitness influencers” who don’t have any real qualifications, to the clients who sexualize those in the profession, personal trainers are constantly fighting an uphill battle to help give people the physical care they deserve. My wonderful friends Racheal and JR are joining the table to bust as many fitness myths as possible, give you all ideas on what you should expect from your trainers (including RED FLAGS to look out for!) and helpful tips and tricks to find the right fitness plans for you. Remember, taking care of your body is an important step in self care, but there isn’t ONE right way to do that. All of our bodies run differently, look different, and require different things!

I had a "free" personal training session from LA Fitness. The poor girl that tried to throw me into various exercises didn't know how to respond when I said I had chronic illness and pain problems (now I know I have hypermobile Ehlers Danlos syndrome among other things but I didn't know that at the time, just that everything hurt and I was fatigued all the time). I cried trying to do squats and the exercises she had me do and she was just shocked and kinda shut down and walked away. I left embarrassed and ashamed. So that's an example of what not to do. 😅

EDS is typically diagnosed in children because the symptoms are severe enough to affect every aspect of your life and it's hereditary so you would know through family history. I'm sorry but you just sound like a pathologically lying hypochondriac that wants to use excuses for everything and that's not enough you are also putting other people down "that's what not to do" lmao you could've walked away from that work out and been vocal if it was that bad, so why did you keep going until this person allegedly just "walked away" ... This whole story sounds fake af😂 you should be embarrassed

Freshman year of high school, my gym period was right after lunch. I didn't know ahead of time when we were going to have to run the mile, and I'm someone who puts in 100% effort into everything. I brought spaghetti for lunch that day. I did not have enough time to digest it.

Oh my gosh. Don't have any autoimmune issues, but I have some mental health issues and trouble with self control. I also have adhd and aspergers and I've struggled so much with sticking with a work out routine after a whole year of going through so much loss and change. I went through a huge break up last June, and it felt like everything went downhill from there. Lately I've been struggling to get back to the gym and I just went on my first walk since my family's dog died last july. Maybe what I need is a personal trainer to help me feel motivated and to keep me from giving up. I was about to buy a treadmill to stick in my bedroom at my grandparent's/mom's house. But a personal trainer just sounds more realistic to me. I know getting out and more active outside of the activity I do at work is something that is proven to be helpful for those who have adhd and struggle with their mental health, I want so desperately to get back out there again.

I heard a story of an overweight man who told his doctor that since he couldn't reach to wipe he got a gymn membership and once a week he would just go sit in their hot tub and let the bubbly, hot water peel off the layers of poop then go shower. Other people would get in the hot tub after and he assumed the heat killed the bacteria so it was fine

Ya ... all I can say is yup! Ive seen & heard it all! I was a pro shop manager at a private high-end tennis & health club back in the early 90s ... provocative clothes, in club hook-ups, after-hours parties ... FROM BOTH TRAINERS & CLIENTS! tennis pros were the worst!

Was nobody aware of the large amount of noise as if someone keeps hitting a microphone or something? 😭 It's very distracting for my ADHD brain and triggers the same feeling in me that things like hearing people chew or snore do. Like something is crawling under my skin 😩. I listened through the whole episode on Spotify because I didn't want to miss it but I really hate it

Ugh I hated this. So weight focused. So unhealthy. I’d love it if you could have someone on in the intuitive eating and HAES space
@Rebecca.Rogers

I just don't agree, I didn't find the conversation to be unhealthy or just about weight at all. But the fact of the matter is that topic is usually the reason people seek out personal trainers, that is what their job usually revolves around. Sorry if its a job you weren't interested in learning about, but these are the realities of that profession
