‪@KurtTocci‬ loved by SO MANY on the internet, and before he was an internet sensation he worked in the service industry! Kurt dabbled in many areas of the service industry, but today we are focusing on Pizza Delivery employees. The job is pretty simple and self explanatory, so we want to focus on the actual treatment of the human beings doing this job. What are crazy things they see? Why do so many people treat these delivery drivers like dancing monkeys? When did it become okay and "normal" to treat other people this way?? Kurt and I are so excited to talk about it all!

Yes, I wish people would stop repeating misinformation about the obvious corporate hit job done in that case. I'm sure there was no ill intent by the guest but it's this sort of casual spread that furthers lies.

I recently ordered from Domino's and noticed it was almost an hour late. So I called the shop and let them know it was unusually last. The manager then informed me that the driver had a family emergency phone call that they had to take, and they would be there as soon as possible. The driver finally arrives and tells me the same story the manager told, and I said that I'm so sorry, I appreciate your honesty.

As a barista, I will say one of the main reasons we have a tip option, option being the key word, is because our regulars want to tip us, but don’t carry cash. I know my team never expects it.
@lianessmaldonado706
@lianessmaldonado706 2 месяца назад
Yes it’s optional and also not everyone gets a coffee. If you work at a certain cafe where people do a 1000 customizations to the drink it’s a lot of work especially when they want it fast and nowadays always expected to multitasks is what people forget. Them saying that was kinda frustrating as a barista

Just got out of the restaurant industry 2 years ago. I worked as a server for 4 years and i worked at Pizza Hut for almost 6 years as a driver, server, pizza maker, then manager. Drivers get minimum wage when you’re off the road. On the road is a bit less plus mileage but mileage isn’t anything. And yes you drive your own car pay for your own gas

One day my neighbors order pizza & end up cornering the young girl that delivered to them. She luckily got away without a scratch, but she quit the job as soon as she got back. What my neighbors didn’t know was that this girl was their landlord’s teenage granddaughter, which is how they got evicted & charged with attempted kidnapping.

Worked at a mom and pop Italian shop that literally had a 5-foot pizza for about 110 dollars. The lady from McDonalds was elderly and literally had to get skin graphs. Papa johns does not pay gas or give a company car. Drivers do not get the delivery fee as the company does. It pays around minimum wage or less. You can make pizzas as well as deliver.

adding on to the delivery drivers, they did not get the delivery fee but it went to the insurance for the drivers that are on shift but that only extends to those on shift as soon as you clocked out you were no longer covered by the insurance but that was just at my location im not sure about others.

My husband and I were waiting in line for our flight-so of course they have pre-board that goes first, as they need extra time or are disabled. The woman behind us was going OFF on one to my husband about them: “ Why do they get to go on first, I have a spot in line and I was supposed to be “first”, what’s the point of having assigned boarding if they are just going to let them on first.” My poor husband is completely uncomfortable with confrontation, so he just nodded and said “yeah” every complaint she had. I just smiled and didn’t respond, until she opened her mouth to say” why is he in a wheelchair? He doesn’t look like he needs it if he’s now walking on the plane”. Mind you, this woman was ELDERLY! She had to be at least 80! So at that point I just said, “well not all disabilities are visible, he might have something going on that we can’t see.” She went on to complain about how that’s still not right, because she paid for this ticket”. And my husband basically just turned around because he knew why was coming. I turned back to her and said” We ALL pains for our tickets, but maybe you should have more compassion for disabled people. I hope when you get to that point, that people complain and treat you just like you are treating them. And from the looks of you, that won’t be too long”. I said it quietly to her, didn’t raise my voice and didn’t make a scene. After, I just turned around with my husband and I could hear her scoffing at my reply. But damned if NOT one person said a word of encouragement to her.

I have a funny story: i was out at a very cheap restaurant with two friends. One of them is autistic and struggles with social cues. Anyways, so after we got our food the waitress comes back for the two bite check so yk she asks “how is everything?” My one friend starts telling her about the little things that could be changed such as the pickles weren’t crispy enough. Again, he isn’t the best at social cues, but do keep in mind he wasn’t yelling or anything he told her this calmly and he seemed to be trying to be kind at the very least. My other friend then smacks him on the back of the head then turns to the waitress and says “it’s great, thank you.” I wanted to do the same I just don’t have enough balls lol. I could just tell by the look on her face she was trying not to laugh and I don’t blame her cuz same😂

Once when I worked at Domino's I and one other driver took a huge order to an elementary school. The order was almost $1000 and we carried it in and helped set them out. They gave us $6 to split between us. Also schools got a 20% discount at our store. That was the worst delivery I ever took. When the store owner found out he gave us $10 each. I'm not exaggerating when I say the whole store was mad that day. I later found out that the school had mini carnival and were selling the pizza slices at half slice for about $2-$3 each. 😡

And stories like these are why I try to say thank you and give grace whenever I can. You truly never know what someone is going through, and giving someone who is serving you in any way your best manners and kindness can be enough to change someone’s day! 🙂

“People put people on blast”….I wish that would become a POSITIVE trend. I’ll start. One time, I was trying to pay for a simple bag of popcorn, but my card just wasn’t going through. The lady behind me worked at the bank my card was (not my location necessarily, but still local) and said something about having each other’s back when she paid for mine. I will never (ish) forget that small kindness. I didn’t NEED popcorn, but it was a nice little gift and turned something embarrassing into something heartwarming. ❤ Same thing happened at a gas station, but it was a complete stranger & a coffee…very sweet people in the queue BEHIND me - not just “paying it forward” (which is wonderful too!). ❤

One time a guy wouldn't take no at the drive through (he was pretty drunk and was making a demand involving the word p*ssy) and he absolutely refused to leave the window. Yes this is true about the West Coast even McDonald's employees make $20 an hour but if you can imagine it's still not enough to survive on... It's almost like minimum wage everywhere is half of what you need in order to just keep your head above water... So yes the wages are different but for somebody that lives in Texas they can rent a trailer for $500 a month all utilities included and it's a three-bedroom. On the west coast you're going to rent a place it's going to be 1800.00 a month & utilities are not included. We can't focus on the numbers too much just understand that everybody no matter where there are in the US if they're working in the service industry they ain't making crap. My caregiver makes $18 an hour while McDonald's employees start out at $20 an hour.

@judithsixkiller5586 2 месяца назад
The place in Texas must be in an area that's isolated from work and shopping or hard to rent out for other reason's. In Tulsa county there's a housing shortage and long waiting lists. If you're not willing to rent subsidized public housing in high crime areas ,a tiny old efficiency can cost 550 a month with absolutely no bills paid ,plus an extra charge is required in the summer for yard mowing.

I worked for papa johns and they paid .50 per mile, and you used your own vehicle. I made $11 an hour plus tips. Yes, Uber, you get any bonuses and tips, but they take a huge portion of what the customer pays and the amount thwy pay for trips, is ridiculously low. Like on lyft I took a ride for $100 that was 250 miles. I would never do again. You drive like 20 miles and get $8 and a lot of people don't tip.

I worked at Applebee's- the orders went into the computer and you either paid with a card or you had to punch in how much they paid with cash. The tip-out was printed on your receipt at the end of the night and it was a percentage of total sales but cannot go above $20 per server. I got stuck in the bar on mother's Day and had less than $200 in sales. My tip out was like $5 the district manager was there that day and said nobody had to pay anything above 20 but you had to pay at least $20 that day. I walked up and said that my paper told me much about was $5 cuz I only had $200 in sales and I only made $25 in tips. They were flawed asked me what section I was in and I told them and they said that I can only pay $5. Sometimes you have to let the higher-ups know what you made so they won't overcharged you on your tip out.

My mother was a waitress back in the 50s. I have no idea what her hourly wage was, but I do remember her coming home and counting her tips for that shift. A good tip for her was $5 in for one shift. Even though that was over 60 yrs ago, today I am a good tipper…20% plus more if the service was above and beyond.

I have 6 college credits in my name and have paid $180 for the 20-hour course, $50 for my finger printing, $20 to get registered with FCSR, and still have to pay $50 for my DESE Certification. I will be paid $110 per full day and I can only work 17 days a month because otherwise I would have to be given health insurance benefits, therefore I have to have another day job and a summer job. I am excited to be doing it, but the $300 he mentioned would be heaven.

I got dubbed “the social butterfly” by my kindergarten teacher 😂 😢the name certainly stuck aaallll the way through. (And to now depending on my mood) My precalculus class senior year, I had it with 2 of my bffs (I’m using their first name initial, H and A). Neither of us (me & A) understood anything she taught but my other bff H always did… plus she had such a strong southern accent that was hard to know what she was even saying.. soo we’d do our makeup in class 🤣. She’d get so mad at us and yell, “this isn’t beauty class ladies, this is math! No wonder you girls are both failing. Y’all need to be paying attention! These problems are one you’re going to have so solve for the rest of your life!” Naw, it’s because you’re a horrible teacher buuuut 🤷🏻‍♀️ we were at least respectful of course so we couldn’t say it to her face.. and who’s an esthetician now?? Me. Guess who’s the cosmetologist? My bff Holly. I was a good kid and student. Only ever had one after school detention _only_ because I forgot my English text book in my locker, which btw, was RIGHT ACROSS THE HALL FROM THAT TEACHERS ROOM!!! We only got 7 minutes for passing and our HS is huge. My class alone was over 700 and it was between 550-700 for 9, 10 and 11th grades. I swear high school is to blame why I walk so damn fast and have road rage while walking 💀

I used to deliver for a dispensary (in Canada, it’s legal nation-wide here), and when we were using our own cars, it was a percentage of the delivery fee plus gas. When the owners did the numbers, it was actually cheaper for them to finance a Tesla for us to deliver in, and we didn’t get extra for driving the car. I think that’s a fair trade since we were also making hourly and the delivery runs regularely went an hour or over. Driving your own car, you should be getting paid that delivery fee plus gas since driving for 2+ hours a day puts a big toll on your car, nevermind the gas it takes to get there and back, but tips were ours. It still amazes me that people that chose to pay cash wanted their $0.45 in change back though, especially if they’re ordering $200 worth of weed. And it happened a lot more than you’d think.

I am not sure if I missed this or if this point was not addressed. When people do not tip their server in a full service, sit down restaurant, servers actually pay out of pocket. I am required to tip out, what equates to 30% of my sales/tips each shift. Plus, the IRS assumes servers are making (last I checked 12% in CA but that was a few years ago so it might have increased) so if the IRS feels I have not paid them enough already in taxes, I will not get what I think I am going to be get back.

19:32 a couple months ago, late November, early December, I was early for a doctors appointments and I could feel my blood sugar dropping. I went to the hospital cafeteria, meaning the same or similar food the patients are getting, and I was asked to leave a tip. Normally, it’s 10-20%. The hospital had the audacity to start at 30%-45%, or custom. This cafeteria was grab and go, or buffet style, where you serve yourself and its weight based. I served my own food, I have had friends work hospital food service, so I know they get paid well, and I still have no idea what I am asked to tip for. I got a bottled Cherry Coke, a prepackaged bag of chips, and a prepackaged sandwich. Nothing I got was made anywhere near that kitchen. Why would I tip, and why is a HOSPITAL asking for a tip? I was so taken aback. People are literally dying upstairs, and this place had the audacity to charge those people’s loved ones extra for a tip! I wanted to get angry, but I know it was the hospital’s CEO and not the worker’s fault or issue.

Sometimes I like to back people up in comments sections. Like one time I was scrolling through comments on a RU-vid video and I found one that was a little rambly but overall harmless and a little fun because they were talking about how the channel owner made their day and someone had replied to that comment with "nobody asked" and a little extra to sort of hammer home that they were shaming this person for speaking their mind on a RU-vid video and so I replied to that reply "nobody asked you either, and yet here you are." And the original commenter liked my reply and I felt happy that I made them feel better after someone was unnecessarily rude to them and trying to shame them. And it does kind of go back to treat people how you want to be treated. If you dismiss and shame someone because "nobody asked", then you better be prepared for someone to return the favor, because no one asked you either. I do my best to be kind and do the right thing, but I can be so petty and mean if I want to be and think someone deserves it after their actions.

1:02:33 here my tip to those people easy to anger: if you need to say something, write it out, say the mean things, but instead of hitting send or post, delete the comment, scroll past, or whatever to not let the comment or message out. I am diagnosed with Emotional Intensity Disorder. A hallmark of the disordered thinking is a short anger fuse or easy to upset. I know if I’m angry, writing out what I want to say helps with my emotional regulation. However, I’ve stopped sending or sharing my angry or bitter thoughts. Typing or writing is an amazing, cathartic activity, and most mental health professionals will tell you that. On social media, we are losing that guilt associated with sharing not nice words, and that’s how most Karens have been born. Get those inner thoughts out of you, but don’t share or send the message. It really does help with emotional regulation, helps the person express their thoughts & feeling, but no one else needs to see or hear it. Type the message, let the emotions go, and move on. No one got hurt, and no one can use those messages against you, because they don’t exist!

Unless the persons you are delivering to know the work around... I give a dollar for their "tip" and as long as the words "and this is a GIFT to you" come out of my mouth, the driver does NOT have to claim my gift as a tip

There should be a law that makes people work in the service industry for few years when they are young.

In my culture tipping is really optional. I really don't understand the tipping culture of America. Our servers get paid enough so they don't need those tips to survive. I also worked in the service industry as a washer and cleaner at a small restaurant. I got paid enough for my work and a bit from tips, because we split them for everyone.

As a swede his argument of "if you don't want to tip make your own food" is kinda icky. I get why; due to your tip-to-live. Here we do not tip. You get paid for your work. Tipping in many stores/business is frowned upon since it makes them appear they won't do a good job unless they are offered money out of pocket. 😅 If we get offered to keep change where I work, we put it in the cat shelter donation box. How different countries are, so wild... 🤔 It is interesting at the very least but I personally prefer our own system. But I am very biased. 😂😂

If your job doesn't pay for gas, you can claim it as a tax deduction! Kinda scummy for them not to pay for gas though.

6 minutes in and I'm already triggered. "It wouldn't make sense to apply to a pizza delivery job without a car." PLEASE TIME TRAVEL TO 10 YEARS AGO AND EXPLAIN THAT TO MY SISTER THE SUMMER SHE WORKED AT DOMINOES DELIVERING PIZZA. She used my dad's car for that summer, so obviously he used mine, and I was the one paying for a car that I rarely got to use for a few months! 😂 for the record, I did give her shit for it then and I continue to do so every once in awhile just for fun. No familial relationships were harmed in the making of this anecdote.

Let me tell y’all a story OK so I’m on birthday we have the biggest wars side we can find and we always have pizza deliver so the pizza guy comes this has been happening. I don’t know two years now OK and until the pizza guy comes and my dad‘s like OK Will pay you an extra 50 bucks. If you go on the waterslide now OK we will still give them tip no matter what he was gonna get an extra 50 bucks in every year they said yes and afterwards we give them a towel to dry often and they take the towel with them OK it is just amazing. But it’s different we’re not we’re taking videos. Yes because this is been happening for so many years. And yes, we did ask for remission and all that but just wanted to remind y’all a good spirit and good mindset.
