My son was born in England with serious health conditions. He could not breathe and could not feed. From the second he arrived we had unlimited access to specialists, hospitals, emergency care, equipment and community support. He’s deaf and has access to free hearing aids, audiology appointments, ENT check ups. Sometimes it can be hard to get appointments but overall I feel his care is first class. I feel very lucky to live where I do and have the support we get.
What’s important to mention is that every country in Europe is different and has different standards on healthcare. I live in Denmark where all healthcare is free and for most of the time on a very high level. With that said in a country with only 5-6 million people the experience with some of the rarer diseases will be low. For my son we needed to go to the US for treatment and that was covered by the state as well.
Should have been titled...the truth about this one guy's personal experience. Meanwhile in other places of europe, we have full coverage private health insurance, zero co-pay, can see specialists in a matter of weeks for about 70 euros a month. Then the public system on top of that for free.
