Hip Replacement is major surgery, but the basic steps are easy to understand. Total hip arthroplasty (THA) replaces your worn-out and damaged hip with an artificial hip implant. There are several "surgical-approach" options for #hipreplacement surgery. In general, your surgeon makes an incision near the hip joint, removes the diseased or damaged bone/cartilage, then inserts an #artificialhip into place.
.
Anterior Approach Hip Replacement is a minimally invasive way to perform hip replacement surgery. Direct anterior approach (DAA) hip replacement is designed to minimize soft tissue trauma and pain, speed recovery and minimize the risk of early hip dislocation. The direct anterior method is considered “muscle sparing” because it does not involve cutting into (and later repairing) muscles and tendons to reach the damaged bone and tendon. Instead, the surgeon gently pushes the groups of muscle and ligaments aside, inserts the implants, and then moves them back to their proper position. By minimizing healthy tissue trauma, anterior hip replacement patients often go home the same-day of surgery without activity limitation.

Hip replacement changed my life! The limp and pain is gone. I can walk long distances and do exercises I couldn't do before. When I first saw Dr. Calendine, he asked me what took me so long to come. Looking back now, I do wish I had done it sooner. My quality of life really suffered in those 7 years that I limped around.

Both hips done. Oct 23 and Feb 24. Damage due to severe dysplasia. Now at 50, I had forgotten what walking without pain was like!

I had a hip replacement and revision of this replacement within eight months. In the first surgery too much bone was removed from the area of the acetabular cup. I noticed after 3 months my range of motion was decreasing and I had worse pain than prior to surgery. After a barrage of scans it was discovered I also had a peri acetabular fracture. However the original surgeon was doing nothing to suggest a fix. I got a second opinion, had the revision with bone graft and am doing much better. The experience initially left me jaded as I never had the pain free feeling everyone seems to talk about after hip replacement. Luckily after a successful second attempt I’m confident in the replacement. I’m a strong advocate for a second opinion. Thanks for the informative content 👍

I had my first hip replacement (right side) five years ago. I was seriously injured as a high school wrestler and had dealt with the pain from 1980-2019 through chiropractic adjustments. After surgery, my pain went from a 4 to a 1. All lower back pain on that side was Gone! At the sixth month point, all pain went away. Im having my left hip replaced next week, and I can't wait for the reduction in pain. If you are worried about getting a hip replacement, I can assure you that it's the best thing I've ever done for myself! John McHatton

At nearly 59 I'm dreading both my hips being replaced. Severe Osteoarthritis to both hips. And surgery could be up to 6yr wait! I experience agonising pain, with very little help from my gp. I need physiotherapy before I can even be put forward for operation. The thought of surgery horrifies me.

My hip has been giving me hell for the last month. Honestly feels like I’ve just given birth and I’m walking like John Wayne. Had to be given Morphine for the pain while waiting for an MRI.

Have you had a case(s) where failed foot surgery and the resulting change in gait caused hip problems? Could this accelerate the arthritic condition present in a hip joint?

@@BoneDoctor_RU-vid so very kind of you to respond, it’s been 3 years of pain from the first foot surgery, during that time 2 more foot surgeries tying to resolve what was done without an improvement. A few months ago the hip became very painful. Results from CT scan: DEGENERATIVE CHANGES: There is severe degenerative changes of the left hip there is apparent bone-on-bone articulation anterosuperiorly. Multiple moderate size subchondral cysts are noted along the acetabular sourcil. SOFT TISSUES: CT technique limits evaluation of the muscles and tendons. No soft tissue fluid collection or mass. No retracted tendon tear. Visualized portions of the pelvis are unremarkable. No presacral fluid or free fluid. No adenopathy. IMPRESSION: Severe osteoarthritis of the left hip, with a bone-on-bone articulation anterosuperiorly. I am told that an orthopedic hip surgeon is my next stop, appt. Is in early June. It’s been hard, first I can’t work due to the foot as walking 5+ miles a day was the minimum. Now I’m semi house bound as I can’t sit in most chairs or a car seat long and after resting a couple hours I get maybe 20 minutes of ability to walk before the pain becomes overwhelming. OTC medicines don’t touch this pain and I’m wary to take a lot of the medication which was prescribed for the previous surgeries. Thank you, your willingness to answer and inquire very touching.

Greetings, I am writing from Turkey I am 20 years old. My knees have been hurting for 4 years. As a result of the MRI, I was diagnosed with bone marrow edema in the medial condyle of the femur, but I suspect pilica and cartilage damage.Could the MRI image have been misinterpreted?

@@iamtuben2 I was in the same situation as you almost 6 months ago. Worried about my Anterior THR on my right hip. I had been in SEVERE pain and limping for roughly 2 yrs. Turned out I had severe osteoarthritis in my hip. You will be so relieved that you're getting it done. I am SO GRATEFUL for my surgeon here in Indiana. Just follow all the instructions the doctor and nurses give you. Everybody's case is different, but mine so far hasn't been all that bad. Just remember you're not gonna be 100% right away. I read in a THR that you are not really totally healed till like a year after your surgery. Good luck to you! Let me know if you have any questions you might have for me about my experience.

Hii Pallu ji.. My name is yogesh joshi & i live in delhi and i am 36yr Old male, i am afflicted by AVN Hip Since 2008 and now in Sep 2023 i have done my right hip ThR at inderprastha Apollo, delhi under the docter Rajesh malhotra. So, if docter advise you for Total Hip replacment(THR) & really patient not able to tolerate the pain n cann't walk. So you can go with total hip replacement but when you go there is new technique known as Direct anterior approach in which docter doesn't cut the around muscles of hip n replace the , u cn read & research more about this on google.
