IS THIS HYPE WORTH IT? For me, this trend of ice baths is one of the great stupidities of the moment since I believe that it represents the lowest ratio of benefit versus suffering of anything that a person can do in their daily routine. In fact, I think that the greatest effect it has on a person's life is to radically screw up their day. Due to my work in cooperation projects in remote areas, I have spent long periods without hot water having to bathe with cold water coming from the mountains: it is the biggest shit that exists, no matter how you put it.

I don't do the ice bath thing but I take the occasional cold shower. 4 degrees C out of the tap is close enough in my books. I really should do it more often because afterwards (and even during) I feel great. Physical benefits aside, it puts me in a great mood every time.

@EE-hj7cm
@EE-hj7cm 22 дня назад
On the surface level, these studies found that it slows certain activities in your body. So a direct effect would be to slow down hyperthrophic activities. However, it also reduces activities related to inflammation. So that is why it seems to be overall beneficial to athletes that train a lot, if it is done at a reasonable intervals.
@revert5651
@revert5651 22 дня назад
@@twiggmister1 If you take a cold bath up to like 2-3 hours after the workout it will decrease hypertrophy but im not 100% sure about how long you need to wait
@twiggmister1
@twiggmister1 22 дня назад
@EE-hj7cm ok, so at face value from what you're saying, sounds like the benefits can vary for each type of goal you have set for your body and workouts. For strict body building, just optimizing muscle growth, may be un-beneficial, but for calisthenics or other athletic minded goals, it sounds like it can have some benefits. which is cool. but still, my first question was because he claims in the video, that it does actually *increase* hypertrophy. rather than a different benefit that you're explaining here, that was found. that's what confuses me about the claim.

@spectrehub
@spectrehub 25 дней назад
Yea it says that in this video
@WordOfYah
@WordOfYah 24 дня назад
None of the benefits listed have anything to do with hypertrophy. You can still do it if you want the other benefits mentioned, but don’t do it after your workout if you want the most optimal hypertrophy. As mentioned, it helps with recovery via decreasing inflammation which is the very thing you want for muscles to grow. The best solution is to just not take a cold plunge after your workouts, simple. It doesn’t mean you can’t do them at all or else you won’t grow muscle, that’s not what that finding means. Anyways, taking a little bit of a hit to your hypertrophy is meaningless and well worth it if the activity in question helps you to be more consistent, disciplined and productive in all aspects of life. To add to the discipline, do it first thing in the morning. Hypertrophy might be everything to you personally, but your general health and mindset should take precedent over the rate at which you can pack on muscle.

There have been plenty of studies now that show that ice baths actually hinder muscle growth and shut it down. It help reduce inflamarion and muscle soreness and thats why athletes use it to recover from training and games so they can play the next game with less pain they dont do it to increase muscle gain or performance. If your doing it for mental benefits or to fight inflamation then go for it. But if your doing it to recover from a workout then your actually damaging your growth. Far better to use contrast therapy or showers. Alternating from hot to cold gets the blood flowing and lymphatic system moving while improving mood and enhancing recovery.

Also is an act of discipline, of course I dont always want to do it or enjoy it, but I do it anyways, good practicing for discipline in other areas of life. Sitting in ice water, but wearing a hat and gloves? 🙄 I didn't want to sit in a tub of iced water today, so I didn't! Never have, never will. And guess what? I recover from training just fine too.

You don't want to do it, and no one cares. So why do it?
@occultsymbols

There’s an area in your brain, the anterior midcingulate cortex, which grows when you do things that you don’t wanna do. That area is associated with will power. If you just go through life with the mindset that you’ll only do stuff that you wanna do you will have absolutely zero willpower. And that’s fine but be aware of that. Not saying you have to take ice baths but do something that you don’t wanna do or the area will shrink.

@@occultsymbols didn't ask for a lesson thanks. My observation is... By filming himself do this shit and broadcasting it, whilst simultaneously telling us no one cares, he is clearly virtue signalling by painting a lone wolf type persona . However by broadcasting it he has contradicted his 'lone wolf' persona, clearly indicating he needs affirmation and feedback, unlike the 'strong lone wolf' Point being, if your gonna better yourself and build character, drop the selfie stick and do the work. No one cares about your 'journey'.

@@Josewilliams94 I agree with that. I don’t like all this social media bullshit but that’s the world we live in unfortunately.
