I always see Jared’s Evo sitting in that parking lot and I always wondered why it never moved 😂, I now have my answer

man jared is seriously lucky to have a best friend like you in his life. there is a reason I don't beat the shit out of my subaru. I blew up my first motor back in high school and learned quick having to pay full price for a new motor is not cheap and I can't afford to do that every year or multiple times a year

I doubt it was from running lean, could of been a worn valve spring, reused worn valve, worn keepers, or valve adjustment out of spec, usually running lean leads to melted pistons.

My old man always said you'll appreciate it more when you buy and build it yourself. Clearly Jared needs to learn this lesson...... just sayin

Low fuel not good on any boosted car, Fuel prices don’t help either as people tend to run their tanks lower

A dropped valve has nothing to do with the car running low on fuel. It's a mechanical issue. A. The car was over revved, valves floated and kicked a keeper, B. A keeper randomly broke C. The valve springs pressure was too weak for the power the car was making. D. The head lifted and allowed coolant into the cylinder but since the pistons and rods are built, it would find the next weekest link. = valve and break it.

Devin? That will be the dreaded HIGH RPM VALVE FLOAT (not good enough springs to handle the power range) this can either happen right away or when ever you decide to over rev it, or money shift. you don't just drop a valve cause of lean a/f that will only cause detonation and damage the piston, or cause excessive blow-by.

Damn jared I know gas is expensive, but so are motors. Devin is a good friend.

A dropped valve is usually due to a component failure, not sure how running it lean would do it.

Curious: How would a lean-out cause a dropped valve? I can see it causing detonation and damaging a piston or the plug but breaking the head off a valve or a keeper letting go doesn't sound like a mixture ratio problem. Maybe the thing was over-revved on the dyno or saw a money-shift...

Cars fuel until they run out of fuel then they stop, they don’t ‘lean out’ Worn component is more to blame or faulty component. If it’s a lean issue then need to refer to the map or a component like the maf or o2 sensor

Been in that same situation two times with my 1.8 20VT The first time my engine dropped a valve was during a strong 4th gear pull and that leaded to a massive Engine carnage plus the Turbo failure itself. On almost full tank of 100octane fuel. The second time my head was built and the supertech valve manage to drop itself on cruise speed of 50km/h after 1year of massive daily abuse without single hesitation dunno why 🤷‍♂️ Right now it’s my 4th and last built of my Engine ever again and this time I do the best, that can be done to a 1.8 20VT And still wonder if it’s gonna hold up. Bills are massive, don’t play with such toys if you are about to destroy 3 engines for year and half like me.. That’s stupid and I do regret it!
