The Truth About Racing Brake Pads: Are They Worth It?

I've been building and racing my 2007 Toyota Yaris for 3 years, but after 3 months of storage, it's looking worse than I thought. the cover I had didn't really protect the car, and it looks like mice got into it as well. nevertheless, I'm going to install new brakes and oil filter sandwich plate and get this thing ready for track again. but the real question is, how long is it going to take to get up to "grips' with these new brake pads and are the tires going to handle the new bite force I have command of?

Im doing brakes tonight, for Saturday event. Hope they are decent enough. Not race brakes, just something new as im still on original beakes from 2008, and 200k miles

I'm excited to see more content on the Yaris, also interested to find out what these parts are to make more out of the 1NZ. Mine needs the ball joints replaced, the driver side is making a clunking noise. Since mine is lowered, I'm going with the extended ball joint (15mm longer?), to swing down the control arms more parallel to the road. I think they're by Megan Racing? I'm also replacing the rear vertical bushings with polyurethane.

Mine is making a clunking noise on driver side I notice a rubber boot broken on strut tower! Let me know what you find out! Love my Yaris best car I ever owned!

@@aarontaylor2906 I know it's the ball joint. My suspensions are new, I went with Bilstein B8s and Tein's lowering springs, they're match made in heaven. I was also suspecting the sway bar bushings, but alas found out it was the ball joint which was the culprit.

Hey Joey, love the content fellow yaris guy here. Have you considered doing the oem big brake kit swap from the Corolla? I did it recently and made a video on my channel and I love the way it feels compared to stock. Keep the content coming!

I've been looking into it. Another Yaris race car I drove had it, and it made the brake feel a little squishier. I want to get more confident that it is going to be a better solution. Also I would do it with the rear axle swap from the Yaris SE so I could get rear discs as well, and do a manual proportioning valve to better distribute braking force. With all that, it's just become a bigger project than I want to tackle right now

@@RassoolRacing I completely understand. I went with braided lines so maybe that's why mine isn't squishy.

@@RassoolRacingI did the big brake conversion with braided lines on my yaris and felt the same. The brakes weren't better, the car just felt heavier in the front and the brakes felt squishy.

if you needed more power keeping the NZ, would lean on a Blitz supercharger or some TRD Turbo M OEM kit? I've heard of first gen Yaris TS with a turbo 1NZ doing 180 on stock internals

The tuning is the biggest issue out here. I don't have any sources that can tune a yaris without a stand-alone, so a 2zr is the easiest cheapest way to increase power for now.
@Dino-krfe
@Dino-krfe 11 месяцев назад
@@RassoolRacing why not a ZZ from a Celica or a Corolla instead? I tried a 2ZR powered Yaris, and it doesn't really feel like an engine that belongs to a hot hatch, but I might be wrong as my opinion comes from trying a TU5J2 powered Saxo
@RassoolRacing
@RassoolRacing 11 месяцев назад
@@Dino-krfe 2zr is drop in. I can run the xD motor mounts and ECM. 2ZZ is much more powerful, but id need to do some fab work and wiring to make it happen which just means the car would be down for longer. I don't get a lot of time to work on the car, so a weekend job becomes a 1 month job really quickly. 🥲

How are the drum brakes? Would you do a video in the future about them? BTW those new front brake pads are very meaty.
@RassoolRacing

I have spoken to SCCA championship winning Yaris drivers who did it all with stock rear drums. They're basically along for the ride.

I mean they are lighter but the difference in braking power is crazy, I put vitz rs full subframe onto my yaris so it has huge front and rear brakes now..The difference was pretty huge

@theslaughterproject9575 offroad yaris for the win! My lifted yaris is about to get a tube front bumper and winch. Curious if you've got some beefy tires on it and if so, specs?
