As a kid growing up in the 70's, I always looked forward to Friday nights when "The Brady Bunch" came on T.V. It was something my whole family would watch together! Those were special times. The shows back then were very different compared to the shows now!

I was born in 1975, and The Brady Bunch and Little House on the Prairie were on constantly in my home. I haven't watched them in years but still have most episodes in my head. What a great show, mostly because of how the parents and Alice were portrayed by the writers and actors. Even with the simplistic plots and often absurd situations, the kids always showed respect to them. Great video.

I was standing in line in a bank in the mid-1980s in downtown Louisville, when I heard a woman in the next line over excitedly say, "Oh my, it's _you."_ I looked and Robert Reed turned around to her and with a kind smile extended his hand and said, "Bob Reed. Nice to meet you." I knew he was in town to act at a dinner theater just across the river in Indiana (about 75 miles from where Florence Henderson was born, btw.)

I was between the ages of 5 and 10 when The Brady Bunch aired in its original run. For many of us kids in that age group, Friday night was Brady Bunch night. While it wasn't popular with critics nor had big ratings overall, the show was immensely popular with kids and young teens, which was why it lasted for five seasons.

Robert Reed's role on Medical Center was as a pre-op transgender patient: pretty bold for 1970s TV! What was kind of silly was Dr. Gannon performed the surgery and apparently even though it was the first time he tried such a procedure, ol' Joe was able to do it all in one session! As often as I was able, I was a "faithful" watcher of The Brady Bunch every Friday night followed by The Partridge Family and ending my Friday night watch with Love American Style. I was there from its inception in 1969 till it ended in 1974. So it started when I was in grade school and ended when I was in junior high. Looking back I realize it was a show aimed at kids because almost all stories revolved around them. I am sure that is why most kids loved to watch it. I never thought much of the sequels even the reunion when Marcia and Jan were married. Reunions and sequels often don't work because it takes away how we remember when the show originally aired. I would rather remember a show the way it was even if it was corny. I also remember which scenes were left out of the reruns when they were shown in syndication that's how well I knew the show.

And a note I looked up the other day. Ronnie Schell is still with us in his early 90s. Florence Henderson has noted a few times in interviews about speaking with Robert Reed toward the end how he asked her to "tell the kids", which is very endearing! One thing Sherwood Schwartz did to forever tarnish Mike Brady's reputation as a TV dad was have him actually miss out on his first born son's high school graduation over some alleged "business trip" that was only mentioned in the last few lines of the final episode!
