I absolutely love the subliminal messages to buy EMF audio you did there!!! BRILLIANT!!!!! 🤣🤣 (said in a calm smooth voice” 🤣🤣 had me cracking up at the end
Rockville done 0 testing or research on their own woofers and it's biting them in the ass.Instead of going at their build house for sending them BS they go at the customers.🤔🤔
Tony Melo the problem with China made products is 98% of raw materials they get is not spect. The materials is not tested because who is making it has no regulations. That’s another reason why they can do it so cheap. For an example, they don’t X-ray their welds. Only because they don’t have to.
Thank you emf .. Im glad you spoke up for EXO.. Hes a great guy and he was doing us all a service with education.. Just as you have as well. No bash just plain out open up eyes where was needed.. I belive with all these faults you and exo pointed out ..You have done more than enough to help them fix and start over .. If the public forgives ... Skilled labor isnt cheap labor and cheap labor isnt skilled labor. EMF compliant only 😂
Blowville needs to Just eat Crow and go back to the drawing board ...rate their subs at the point of stable and not at the point of where it blows and just Forget about the CEA rating. I have no clue why they're so stuck on that rating that means nothing they need to do some true real tests and give it an honest rating. And this is why the car community is so tough on this industry Because they're tired of getting taken advantage of from companies that pulls stupid ship like this and wasting our damn money on crap! Thank you so much for doing this EMF!
To play devils advocate even this test EMF did is misleading as the Q and resonance of the ported enclosure will have more to do with whether it survives or not. If the enclosure is being driven near its resonance, the sub will experience the least amount of cone movement due to the high Q there, and its impedance will be at its lowest point, and the current conversely at its highest. As the power dissipated increases with the square of the current (P=i^2*r), and theres a lot more of it now at resonance, the voice coil can rapidly overheat due to the relatively small movement of the voice coil combined with the high current draw. Theres a lot more to rating a sub then just what it can handle, and there's no real safe way to actually ensure a speaker will survive rated power in all circumstances. EMF's subs could easily suffer the same fate and fail below their rated power limits if the conditions are right.
If I was having trouble I would have no problem asking a successful company for advice as to why it's not working out but the people at rockville are just stupid plain and simple
CEA is for amps not subs and speakers. My brother used to have 2 ten inch Sony Xplods and he pushed 1000 watts on those 2 subs, it did not blow but made the voice coils hot but not hot enough to cause failure but it would still blow on a road trip. Sony Xplods are budget SPL subs able to handle a lot of abuse for it’s cheap price.
I thought I was losing it when a hat popped onto your head during your non-threatening voice portion of the video and then again when it changed colors lol.
That would actually likely be incredible for their business. It hits the target demographic while moving enormous volume. Returns would be the only downside.
Thank you EMF, I've been in audio for 30 plus years and have never been so ticked at companies like the one you did on tested subwoofer, their are compliant testing and there is other compliant testing, but in the end it all comes down to what the real true power of the driver is really made to handle, true wattage will always prevail in real world settings, given you know the threshold of the units limit, again keep up the awesome work 👍
Off brand product fooling the public by combining two name brands people will say oh that sounds familiar I heard that before let me get one producing inexpensive Chinese garbage without doing any of the research and development themselves basically just Mass producing and copying all this hard work making a huge markup on their brand.
😂😂😂. I got 2 of there 10's. Both have there own amp. I got 2 rockford 600x1 amps they are taking a beating an holding. Now the ones i have are svc 4ohm shallow mount in a seald box. Been beating on them for some time now with no problem i play songs from 15hz to 60hz with no problem. I prefer a different brand but they are doing good so far. Ill putt them in a ported box an see how they hold up.
@@happys104092243 not saying they're stuff is shit... but you have to admit they're just looking worse every single time they try to "justify" their product
I think they just don't know and have willful ignorance. Like the info sheets and website. That seems like a translated Chinese manufacture spec with some American editing along with it to make it sound legit. No one talks that way and I would be embarrassed to put my name on a product with a description like that.
I think on the spec sheet aluminum coil is referencing the coil Former, and the wire itself is OFC. It does look like the former is indeed black. With regards to the cast aluminum basket increasing efficiency you can typically have tighter coil gap due to stiffer structure - so that does improve efficiency.
The gap has nothing to do with the basket. Suggesting you can have a tighter gap because of a basket would mean your top plate is flexible. If anything, the motor would provide the basket with more rigidity, not the other way around.
That was a very informative video. It was funny when you were summarizing the testing at the end and you kept changing the koozie color and your hat color.
My friend had 2 rockville 15s. Pushing literally 2000 watts to them. 1000 per sub. Set with the correct tools. The subs caught fire and burned his car and everything inside it after an hour of playing. The setup was done correctly. He had the same setup prior to the rockville subs and was running them for a few months. The only thing changed was the rockville subs were put in. Paralleled at 1 ohm final impedence.
I am glad I subscribed to this channel. Not because or garbageville nonsense, but because of the true knowledge given and how you actually explain stuff. Actually makes me want to buy your products!
Sounds like Chinese translated. I’m sure it’s black aluminum formers with ofc wire. Either way it’s a junk sub that could’ve been a great bargain if they changed a few things.
240C is 464F. Note my comparison was the coil, not the dustcap. Those are very different numbers you'll get. The claim was coil temperature so I tested the coil.
@@EMFAudio Paaa haaa haaa ha ha! It couldn't take 240 degrees farenheight! They can't even claim a typo as a saving grace. Maybe they can plead dyslexia as a defense and claim they meat 042 deg C.
I just noticed I said 350. I was trying to do quick math in my head while watching the video. I think I meant about 450. 464 is crazy hot. I’d think the paper cone would start smoking at that temp. Lol.
Yeah i would really like to see that TESTS done i heard some ok things about the Rockville Destroyer but that doesn't mean it will take the power that it says Either way i wouldn't buy one il stick with EMF AUDIO and SUNDOWN AUDIO there my go to car AUDIO company AMAZING PRODUCT AND AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE [✌🏽💪🏽🔈✌🏽💪🏽🔉✌🏽💪🏽🔊 ]
I believe the intent was to say it's an aluminum former with copper coil, but they also said it was a 240 degree American made coil which isn't not either.
Instead of ripping on Rockville in this comment, (as I usually do) I just want to say, that you guys at EMF are truly doing a great job. Really. Thanks for the time, effort and accurate information. How it should be.
EMF hat, drink holder, shirt and key chains.... dang you started representing hard at the end lmao. Can I join your squad? You make it look gangsta! We can pull up on Rockville right now and shake their building to the ground, I make the tracks and you bring the Boom lmao Love the video and thanks for sharing!!!
Reminded me of the cool professor; we had fun and definitely learned something. This is a historic moment for car audio. There are those with the equipment to verify the quality of their purchases and share it with those who are at the mercy of a company. Those who say the hobby is loosing steam most live under a rock. Keep up the good work my friend and God bless. P.S. those 3 thumbs down must work for rockville.
It was badass that you checked the T-S parameters prior to break in. People have been VERY curious and asking for Thiele-Small for a while. Trust no one. I can surmise that the reduced damping of the elevated Qms caused the increased Vas. With time both may increase a little more. At least the sensitivity was a bit higher.
I thought this too. It still means they aren't very involved in the whole process of designing, making, testing, and doing the paperwork. It all sounds like Chinese something.
For some funny reason I want a EMF hat and lanyard now :) :) Exactly why I really like the 12s I have in my trunk build. They come from a great company that took the time to properly test and did not cheap out on the quality of the driver build. I have absolutely Nothing against any other brands (There are a ton of great companies out). But they have to be legit, this was a very nice presentation. I went for popcorn because very entertaining and the facts are there. PS I almost fell out reading the description too.
Great idea, genius ways to upgrade your bad buying mistakes......they just need to duplicate the garbage and fix the problems, then they can profit on recone kits......all day long, night too
So what I learned is on around 300 to 500 watts this subs good to go and sounds good as well. So know this going in and you're golden. Still not bad for just over 100 bucks. 🤷♂️👍
Bruce is an awesome guy and he doesn't sugar coat anything when it comes to his reviews. I tried so many times to buy a Rockville K9 and they were ALL out of stock. I'm glad that they were after seeing Bruce's videos. I have a Rockville 15 in my wife's car, but it's in a tiny box powered by a terrible eBay 1200 watt amp.
EBay does not produce any products neither does Walmart. Both carry excellent equipment and garbage equipment depending on what you purchased from them which is why I don't understand when people say oh I got a garbage Walmart woofer if you go to walmart.com you can get just about any brand name woofer or any other component that you would like at a good discounted price with an honest return policy of 90 days. Just saying🤪
I had a W65K9D2 hooked up to a 600w 1ohm amp and bumped it from San Diego to Los Angeles and on the way back the surround ripped halfway off and I glued it back together with E6000 and it still bumps to this day! I got that magnet extremely hot after 6 hours of abuse with rap music. The max rated was 1000w but I'm surprised it can handle half of that.
@EMF are you subliminally trying to get me to want one of those hats at the end with the color change?? No , well it worked! Lol enjoy your videos and I'm glad I came across you keep up the awesome work!!
Remember guys this is a cheap subwoofer manufacture trying to step up their game. No one should be upset about this if anything it helps the guys that can’t afford the pro stuff and it still sounds good so my hat goes off to them as a very reasonably price speaker manufacture to go the extra mile even if it’s not perfect.
Lol, good god who wrote that crap??!! 😂😭ROFL Thank God 🙌 I never bought one!! How do you build a "black aluminum coil made out of OFC"???????? Lol, love it. I can't believe people don't see this stuff instantly. I guess they're aiming for the beginner bassheads!
I wish Sean would stay with EMF. I liked the guy and his videos. Very informative and a straight shooter. I bet Sean could rebuild that bastard into something awesome.
I loved every second of this vid man thanks for your time EMF and well done on a stand up analysis and breakdown of the speaker ...in a nutshell they're crap 😃😂😃😃😃
I loved the changes yo the hat and beercozy. To address the team at Rockville I tend to think there in it for the job meaning there not true audio lovers. I understand as a company you gotta make money but I see the companies who succeed in this industry are guys who are in love with this industry. I loved the video. I thought the sub would let go around 600 watts on a tone. I still am left wondering if they will make changes or continue with this farce. Next we will see there boxes are cea rated.
You know Rockville will continue this K9 dick dance. They are in too deep now. They fucked up and now have to stand by subwoofers that were apparently not tested correctly before release. The refunds have to be epic scale.
10:23 "failed under rated power" was the death knell for this entire brand. They have been exposed. Thanks for this viddy, I had never thought of some of your points. Two thumbs up
Nice test. I think what is going on is that, because of the constant 60Hz (without rest every second or so ), the voice coil does not get sufficient cooling. It is possible for another brand that it handles cooling different and not go up in smoke. It would be nice If you can give some more in dept background on cooling of a voice coil, would be great, because not much to find on the net about it. Thanks.
This is a lot of work to call a spade a spade 🤭 but I enjoy it. Also, let's not forget Rockville wouldn't get any smoke if they just had ratings that made sense. It seems to still work for them, look at their ratings on Amazon. I guess going with the "Cheap Chinese nonsense! with *insert large number here*" approach still works.
What a amazing test with incredible detail.. The amount of work and years of experience shine in this video. Too bad you have a legit business to run.. We need more people doing test like this on other brands but who knows.. Rockville should take you up on that r&d testing. They love your subs apparently.. Thanks for these EMF!
EMF Audio that's crazy! They lowered the price I haven't check it in like a month but for a month these were higher in price! Maybe they came to their senses
@@jOhnVd0e yes i'd be curious if someone made a custom setup using the Rockville subs and seeing if a great or decent system is possible example Amp: 2X Orion XTR 2500.1's 3000watts@1ohm(tested by BigDwiz) each. Subs: 12 X Rockville K9 D2's only at 300watts each or 3600watts total all in an 35hz tuned 4th order. i mean they have done 137-142DB from a single sub so what would 12 do on low as hell power?
Read the Amazon reviews. People have literally blown up their amps using Rockville's wiring diagrams which literally told people to Dead short their sub. They should be sued that is criminal.
As the old adage goes, you get what you pay for. Rockville is a flea market brand pushed my non-technical muppets which you can tell have never actually designed or installed a car audio system. The only reason that people buy their shit is because Amazon pushes them as a recommendation. In my opinion they are one notch above Boss Audio, which is not saying much.
So, it's basically a 600~750(?)W 12" sub for US$114? That's not too bad. Bear in mind that an Alpine Type R with the same RMS rating will set you back another $100 on top of that. Had they marked the K9 as a 600W sub, it's likely none of this bruhaha would be going on. (Interestingly enough, the Alpine Type R "black cone" version went through something similar, being a "1000W RMS" rated subwoofer that turned out to be more of a "750W RMS" subwoofer). Your measured t/s parameters for the K9 actually look better IMO than the published ones (lower Qts, lower Fs, higher efficiency). That high Le is a bit horrible though, and I'm going to bet that "28mm" Xmax rating is p-p rather than the more common peak rating (so "real" Xmax is likely half that). Excellent video BTW. I thought you were going to relate coil temperature to coil impedance and use that to determine when power compression started to exceed 3dB (at which point it makes little sense driving the speaker with more power), but that might have been a bit too technical for the crowd here, plus it's likely that coil's insulation failed before that point was reached.
Yup, nothing about this testing was good or bad it was facts vs claims. Though, power handling doesn't indicate performance either, it may sound like garbage, didn't get to critical listening.
That Rockville team is using so much word salad to run a spiral of terms across countless detours to avoid saying "our ratings are completely meaningless" while sort of admitting without saying it by the white noise part... It sounds as absurd as this, "I test my boats to CEA2006 seaworthiness ratings, and you people assume that means it will float in a lake. The CEA2006 test matches a boat cabin on land with watertightness during a rainshower" .
Brilliant....Relaxing AND informative. Good job calling them on their nonsense. Rockville Guys are business students trying to sell an inferior product to some bassheads who wont stand for their subs Fuckery. #emfratingstandard
SA12D2** You said SA15. I know that doesn't matter and was petty to point out, just dont want anyone to hear that and try to discredit anything you said... you know the internet these days. Thanks for this video, though. Really enjoy all of your videos. I'm here every time you post a video. Love the information you share. Keep on keeping on. "Be excellent to each other and bass on, dudes!"
U MY FRIEND ARE AN ABSOLUTE GENIUS I LOVE THE WAY YOU SCHOOL THOSE COMPANY'S THAT TRY TO MISLEAD THE CONSUMERS IT'S SO AWESOME THE WAY U USE UR CALM VOICE I LOVE UR VIDEOS AND ALL UR PRODUCTS I GIVE UR VIDEOS 💯PERCENT 👍🏼👍🏼 [✌🏽💪🏽🔈✌🏽💪🏽🔉✌🏽💪🏽🔊 ]
It sux rockford fosgate is mentioned with those brands. I've had 2 p3 12's that's rated 600 watts a piece on a taramps hd3000 with the gain well over half wired to 1ohm for well over a year and they still sound amazing. Their amps do rated power to which has been proven.
Gain position IS NOT an indication of power output. You very well could be making 500 watts total in that gain position, or you could be clipping it to death from the gain position being too high.
I know gain is not an indication of power, I'm not trying to pretend I know more than u about this stuff because I don't but I'm not an idiot either . I was only saying wat I've had my taramps on over the years .and no I'm not clipping any of my subs . My whole argument is full bridge can sound good on subs and be reliable. I paid under$300 for both of my taramps and while your amp is better all around, at $500 for a 2k on sale for an EMF amp,the taramps smart 3 will always be a better value. I also have a stetsom vulcan 5k and the EMF 2k is still $100 more than the stetsom vulcan 5k while your amp is on sale. I'm not saying your amp isn't worth it ,it's just to expensive for a lot of us. U can keep speculating on wat u think clda be happening with my systems and my full bridge amps but nobody has ever got in my cars and not been impressed with how loud and how good they sound
I know your a car audio genius and I'm not being sarcastic, but not all of us are complete idiots when it comes to car audio. I'm only saying that because u capitalized IS NOT in your comment. Why can't u admit that a full bridge amp can sound good on subs I admitted your amps are superior and even said I'd trade my taramps for one in a heartbeat . But you keep trying to make me seem like I don't know wat I'm talking about any of this..I've always supported you and I never acted like an ass whatsoever so u don't need to do that
I had no problem running 2 12inch k6 subs on 1,000 watts rms for almost a year. I just wanted more sound quality subs so changed them out. At time I paid about $44 for the k6 each from audio savings, have no complaints. I'm also not doing spl though, so big difference. If they put just a little more into these k9s they could be really good, not sure why they skimp on random stupid things. The Rockville Amp dynos, show they do product the certified rating they claim on box or within a couple watts, not the like boss numbers etc. Very good info in this video, I'm not running any Rockville products now, but I can say the amps are good for the price, seen price rise some, so they are not as good of deal like in past.
The subs aren't failing because they were used "for SPL", nobody is using them for SPL, they're just being used. If you're using them for burps they're far LESS likely to die than in a daily application.
That's exactly right man . A design that is not great but could be. Rockville, take your time and do it right. Emf audio, along with other audio brands have put in the wrench time. CEA compliance is not working in the standards these days cause you can have the test fixed to say anything. So how is the customer going to know if the audio equipment will do what is state on the product information form. There are a lot of companies making claims that are not true with the products they sale. If you are going to jump into the audio world. You had better put you products where your numbers are. They will test. People just want true specs.
I'm late...I pretty sure you are right...but there are always little changes that make me question....There was an original 40Hz to 60Hz switch because it was "harder on subs". I get that in a certain enclosure it would move less and thus heat up more, but you never quantified why it was "harder". Then in this test you switched to a ported box...maybe you mentioned tuning...I don't know I had to fast forward alot...there was alot of exposition versus data. But what I don't see is you taking a your Lowballer sub and putting in the same enclosure, running the same test and it coming out unscathed at the point where the rockville dies. Overall, it really doesn't matter to me...I'm not buying a Rockville sub, the CEA/RMS/Peak BS simply ensures I will never buy one. But I might buy an EMF Lowballer if and when I take out my Sundown E15 v2 with my Skar 1500.1. But these videos give me no motivation to do such, because to the outsider they still only seem to be trashing a competitor and not actually proving your subs are better. Show me your subs performing the same test better and this 40 min video will mean something...
60 hz the sub moves less than 40 hz in nearly every application, the less it moves, the less it cools. I'm pretty sure that was mentioned in the video. The box is tuned to 30 hz I think, which again may have been mentioned in the video. To your own admission, you're bringing up things that can be answered by actually watching the video. In regards to doing the same thing with the Lowballer, you might notice the video isn't titled "which is better, a Lowballer or K9". The point of the video is focused on that sub and the claims of 2 other people, us being a third party. The Lowballer was mentioned as a point of reference in regards to what Rockville said COULDN'T be done, which can be, and it did. You didn't see us trying to show our subs are better because that isn't what the video is about. I'd recommend watching the entire video, starting with part 1 in it's entirety so you might understand why this video exists.
I feel you man. I feel the same way when my coworkers compare their chevy Malibu’s to my Audi A7. It’s just a joke. Need a cheap sub, get you a low baller or a Skar sdr.
