Oh my lord, he brings up the Canadian Healthy Plate. I've lived in Canada for my entire life and if I can tell you one thing about Canada, it's that industry and its lobbyists have even more control over our laws and guidelines than in the US. Doctors get more of an indoctrination then an education here, I swear. Dieticians are taught to only use the established recommended guidelines, I fired mine after she recommended I eat 180-240g carbs a day and was worried about me eating 3,000 IU of D3 a day and said I'd get Vitamin D toxicity.

My doctor also freaked when I told him I was taking 5,000 IU w/ K2. Then I pointed to my test result, which was normal, middle of the field, and said "I've been doing this for 2 years". He and his family are now on low carb, after I passed him a couple of links to lectures by a cardiologist and others. But he was trained in the 80s, and is the last of a dying breed in our once amazing health care system (vs industry).

I hear you. Dieticians and doctors are bound by their licensing associations to tow the line. Our guidelines mirror exactly the American guidelines. Case in point, Canada follows ADA for building practices, American Disabilities Act, and American Diabetes Association, Food Plate formerly Pyramid……I am trying to become a Health Coach, can’t do what I need to do by joining Association for dieticians, they would not allow me a license if I recommend low carb currently. Its still early days.

Lord save us from " Registered Dieticians" and Nutritionists. I chat with one regularly when we meet while walking our dogs. She has no actual concept of Nutrition beyond the dogma that she has been taught. Talking about a ketogenic diet is like exposing her to kyptonite. To her it was all about calories in, calories out. She also scoffed when I mentioned lectins in plants and actually said..." I don't believe in them". Such ignorance and arrogance. She " doesnt believe in them?" Hmmmm....Try eating some raw castor beans and see how quickly the Ricin lectins will kill you. She kept feeding her clients " good carbs" and could not understand why they failed to lose fat mass. I stopped discussing nutrition with her because arguing with an idiot is pointless. They bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Two of my favorite YT doctors - Gil and Dr. Westman. Gil is a great speaker but is more along the traditional line of putting a lot of stock in the research to date. That is typically a very sound process unless you realize that a lot of these observational studies are not correlating to real life evidence of people doing the opposite and fixing health issues. And a lot of these observational studies are too broad to use as guidelines eg the one where people eating at McDonald's end up being unhealthy and the reason attributed is that meat and saturated fat are the cause when it is equally likely that the fries fried in reused vegetable oil and the soft drink are more likely to be the culprits.

My takeaway from this video…if you fuel your body with carbs, limit saturated fat to about 10%; if you fuel your body with fat, 30-50% fat is ok. But….there is surely a limit for each person eating low carb as to how much fat can be consumed before the extra gets stored as fat. Why would our bodies ever need to burn our stored fat if we are feeding it plenty every day for fuel? Gotta be a balance in there somewhere for all of us.

Interesting video. Just wondering if Dr Gil Carvalho would ever recommend that one should ever lose weight? Since your body stores excess energy as saturated fat and to reduce your fat percentage one would have to burn said fat. Metabolically speaking your body would convert your body fat as energy in the same manner as if you just consumed saturated fat from the food you ate. To be safe would he just recommend liposuction to reduce body fat instead? I don’t think the studies take this into account.

I can understand the error of blaming cholesterol for atherosclerosis, since cholesterol is found in the arterial restrictions caused by lesions under repair (cholesterol is a basic building block for all cells, so it must be present in the healing process). But saturated fat? how is it supposed to cause atherosclerosis? It doesn't swim about in the blood because fat is not water-soluble. Eating more, or less, saturated fat doesn't affect how much cholesterol the body makes either, if people still cling on to the "bad cholesterol" idea. So yes, let's not be bothered by the fear of eating too much saturated fat.

The analysis by Cochrane does NOT show an S curve since they use ONE data point on the low end with EXTREMELY large error bars. All it shows is a possible result that would need much more study. In essence, Gil is totally misrepresenting the value of the diagram as fact, as opposed to a very weakly studied aspect of values that could change drastically with more study. The idea that an S curve is "known" is a direct lie or misunderstanding of the paper.

It seems to me that the Canadian dietary "plate," much like the American "food pyramid," might be acceptable if you are PERFECTLY metabolically healthy. Unfortunately, a whopping 85% of American adults are metabolically UNHEALTHY. Therefore, the USDA should be recommending a low carb/keto/high fat eating pattern to improve the metabolic and cardiovascular health of the U.S. population.
@theprophet2444

The issue is mixing fat(no matter which one) with high amounts of carbs(especially quickly digested ones without fiber, like found in processed foods). But then again, why blame saturated fat, when you could blame sugar and carbs all the same? In German we have the word "Trennkost" for ages, which means to split the food. Split how? The idea is to eat your (starchy) condiments not with your (fatty) meat or fish but to wait a few hours with them -and it works quite well, people have lost weight that way and got overall healthier. I guess it's because of the randle cycle which proposes that our body can't digest carbs+fats well at the same time and it makes sense, since for carbs you will need insulin but for fats you don't and while insulin is high storing and burning fats is slowed down, asking for trouble.

Usually the Meta analysis takes many smaller garbage analyses and bundles them up into one large pile of garbage and then they promote it with the word Meta but it's still just garbage.

Not understanding the mystery of proper diet... In the wild natural animal populations: generally, a well fed herbivore has a high percentage of body fat, well-fed carnivores are typically lean, and the fattest of all animal groups are the omnivorous ones. Each group need a specific body type in order to survive in an unhindered environment.

Question about haeme iron: plant chompers guy says carnivore people accumulate it, it's oxidative- therefore bad, and the only way to get rid of it is to donate blood. ? Is it true, and is it bad ?

I am so ready just to give up, so far one weekend my morning sugars this morning was 219. Never had them that high before I ate some eggs bacon went up to 244, I am terrified. I’ve never had my sugars be this high on a ketogenic diet. I did it five years ago lost 40 pounds didn’t lose anymore took a year off because my doctor thought Ozempic, monjaro would do me good…vomitted up every day was sick every day started to try the plant-based Whole Foods plant-based my sugars were crazy on that so now been on ketogenic again for a week, but having terrible results this time and terrified. I do not eat anything I am not supposed to, I do page 4 to the t.

My sister is on Mounjaro injections and has lost a good bit of weight. Unfortunately, she hasn't changed her diet(still eats lots of sugar and carbs). The MINUTE she had to get off Mounjaro because of bad side effects, the weight came right back. Diet is the only (permanent) fix. Try going straight carnivore...meat, butter and eggs and see if that helps.

You need to give time to your body to adapt to using fat for energy. Coming from a high carb diet, it seems that your body is still expecting sugar as his energy source so your liver is making glucose and dumping it in your blood stream. Keep the carbs very low and up the fat a lot so you send a clear signal to your brain that fat is now the main fuel.

I don't listen to experts anymore when it comes to diet. I listen to evolution, history and instinct. Evolution says we evolved on saturated fat. History shows the same, and instinct tells me saturated fat is real food, and it makes me feel good. Science can be interpreted in any way you want to prove what you already believe. Instinct and evolution are never wrong...science is, all the time.

I believe saturated fat on a high carb diet probably is a problem but it’s the carbs and seed oils are the problem? Almost every developed country that has tracked seed oil consumption the graph of seed oil consumption and heart are identical even though some of them have not increased sugar intake?

Bottom line is that LDL rises for many folks on keto. How dangerous is it? The pros don't know. Everyone is on their own & has to seek assistance from their local pros. Just say that.
@kemosabe5120
@kemosabe5120 4 месяца назад
Not dangerous. That's a byproduct of switching metabolic pathways. LDL isn't a causal agent. When correlated with heart disease it's because it's there to repair the problem, not the cause of it. Calling LDL the cause of heart disease is like calling firemen the cause of house fires because they were at the scene every time you saw a house burn down.

Good points Dr. Westman. I do think though, that the church might say that the earth is the center of the universe, but the Bible never says that. There is a huge difference between church and the Bible. Churches pick and choose their beliefs based on traditions, not the word of God. Did you know it was written over 3500 years ago in the book of Job, that the earth hangs upon nothing? So they knew about gravity back then.

Great religion analogy. I saw a video by Dr. Eric Thorn (you had some videos of him on your channel), and he said that doctors can get defensive about low carb diets being healthy because then they start to question everything else they learned in medical school. Everything becomes unraveled and they wonder when it ends? What can they trust?
