i remember about 12 years ago when i just had graduated HS, and my aunt and uncle told me to come visit, so i left at 12am from north GA and drove all night just to watch the sunrise at Perdido key, it was amazing.

I've use a Penn Saugus 3000 on a 7' Ugly Stick light ML action for throwing spoons Penn pursuit 4k on a 7' Ugly stick cx2 an older spin fisher 4500 like yours on 7 ugly stick, penn 6500 on a 6'6" ugly stick catfish rod with 50# braid for throwing out shark bait, Cabelas salt striker 4000 on a 9' medium ugly stick. Then I have a big ugly Daiwa Df100A on a heavy 6' snagging rod, PennSSV 8500LL on a Penn 100# boat rod and finally a Penn 114W on a 5'6" Penn rod with rollers. Last 3care for shark fishing. I teach band in Arkansas and bring my graduates down every summer. Try to bring enough tackle for every to fish. I was just out there at pensacola beach fishing not to long ago, caught a bunch of reds. Then switched sides and when to Fort Pickens and Caught some bigger size reds. None the less, great video!!!!

I wasn't so relaxed while surf fishing on the countless occasions I almost died. I was drinking beers though, that part is correct.

I like a 8-9' Rod and 4000 -6000 size reel (Penn battle) with 15-30 braid to cast lures etc... the heavy 10' and 12' Rod set out for striper, drum , shark with large bait in Rod holder

Penn fierce and battle reels hard to beat for the money, also live liner reels so I can relaxe and not lose a rod

I’m bringing down my 9 1/2 foot surf rod with a stradic 5000 for the beach. Also a 7’ to throw my bubble rig for Spanish on the beach

I like a 8 to 9 ft rod to cast lures and 10 to 12 for large bait in a sand spike to keep line above breakers

You said you were going to talk about rods. All I saw was rod holders.

I use 11' and 12ft rods here in SC 50-80lbs braid

Great advice will be trying surf fishing this September when we come down!

I was in the same spot earlier yesterday but decided not to put the yak in due to the brutal wind.

When it comes to a good dependable rod Ugly sticks work great but they are not the greatest for repetitive surf casting with lures. The old Penn slammer shown much the same, good for bait and weight but They are heavy and clunky rods and reels that will bust you neck back and shoulders up. The old Lamiglas GSB is still the best and they make some really nice Custom ones at lamiglas these days, As for Reels kinda depends on the targeted species however i really like the Penn Torque 11 spinning reel. Like is to short to fish with cheap tackle!!! Time on the water is precious make the most of it by spending more for some great gear. IF the Torque is just to much go with a newer Penn Slammer 3 with the oversize bail feature built in! they Run about 200.00 to 260.00 and are still damn nice reels. Some say the newer Slammer 3 is the best 200.00 reel in the world. I know they won awards at the ICAST shows when they first came out and and improve even more but the Torque is just insanely fun!!!

Late to the party as I just found Yak Motley 2 days ago. My questions are about the pvc rod holders. How long are they and how deep into sand do you put them? Looked like in the video they weren't put that deep into the sand. Not that I'm worried about losing my rods, but... I have 0 surf fishing experience, so there is probably something about this that is common knowledge to surf fishermen. Army Strong!

I go to the beach with these three rod and reel combos. #1. 12ft Heavy Ugly Stick w Diawa BG8k #2. 7ft Med-Heavy w Shimano Socorro 6k #3. 7ft Med action Half-Hitch graphite w Diawa BG3k #1&#2 are set up in rod holders w standard surf rigs and various baits. (Live shrimp is my favorite) #3 is my walk around rod I cast lures and jigs with while watching the other rods. I want to make a few videos as you have. Need to learn the editing side more. Thanks for the informative video bud, I have a kast king sharky III 5000 On a 10' Ugly Stick Big Water medium heavy with 50 pound braid and I'm going to be using it for surf fishing and I wasn't sure if it was going to be sufficient. It should hold up nicely.

You need to bust out a few fish cleaning vids. Of the different species and different cleaning techniques

Hey dude, I have surf fished for many years. I just now have been concerned about something probably stupid. I am left handed and feel best when I am reeling on right hand. The reel is on my bottom and eyelets on top of pole. I still fish fine. IS this just an adapted way or am I setting up rod and reel backwards?

Shakespeare contender robot line I got mono for my first time out but when I went to pull some off to practice tying mono to braid it has way too much memory I'm going to braid

Would a 2000 series do alright jig'n or just cast fishing in general in the surf? Usually the wife an me use 5000s for bait fish and 8000s for shark. It's her favorite fish to target.

Thats not surf fishing thats called chunking ! Look up what true surf fishing is and it has nothing to do with having a rod in a holder on a beach !surfcasters like us here in the north swim to rocks climb structure to find trophy bass striped bass!
