200 dollars for polyester in THIS economy…or any economy for that matter?
welcome back babyyyyyy! I decided to do some investigative journalism and give you a deep dive and review on some popular brands I’ve seen circulating online recently like djerf avenue, realisation par, Lisa says gah, and set active! who and how were these companies started? ethics? inclusion? sustainability? quality? overall would love some bigger size ranges so let’s make sure every brand is taking notes on that for 2024🙃 obviously these are just my personal experiences with these brands and my opinions but I’d love to know if your experience differs from mine or it was pretty similar! Let me know if you’d want this to be a series and really hope you joy! Talk to you later!!!xx

i live in brazil and i still dream of getting a realisation par dress without having to sell my soul :-( honestly is kinda annoying and sad that a lot of brands don't even consider latin america when brazil has one of the biggest influencer marketing in the world. they would make BANK here.

That’s actually crazy when you think about it - since Brazil is among the largest economies globally. Ignoring such a huge market seems quite silly, really.

This is crazy I didn’t know that! Not really that similar but it reminds me of when brands don’t cater to bigger sizes like they’re only hurting themselves and all those potential customers…also just make bigger sizes period lol

If it makes you feel better, I hope you can find a secondhand older model of the realisation par item that’s not sold anymore. I recommend those models/styles better!! I don’t like their newer dresses which are of poor quality and the silk is not the best representation of 100% silk that I’ve been used to. I even bought their sunglasses and the quality is not great at all :/ I got a dupe dress of realisation par Alba (secondhand) and it was waaaaay more comfortable and affordable for me to wear on any occasion.

I’m very picky with clothes, I need good structure, color, silhouette, material etc. I have to check everything off a list before I buying. It’s a blessing and a curse lol

Lisa says gah is also like 70% polyester. From their knits to dresses and skirts it’s just too much polyester for the price point!
@CarolineTucker

agreed! my friend and I were just talking about this actually! I’m very picky with material so I’ve purchased only cotton and wool items from them and really liked the stuff but the amount of polyester is CRAZY

While I love the body-positive marketing that some of the brands have, it’s sad when those brands put more into that image than in the actual product quality. Twenty-something’s don’t have tons of cash to waste, and you should be able to trust that your investment will last as long as you want it to! When the sewing is “off” or the fabric is too thin, or doesn’t hold up well, I wonder where else they’re cutting costs with their workers… It would be interesting to know how much their top white collar designers/managers make, especially vs the seamstresses.

I cannot stress enough how important it is that you mentioned the sizing of Realization. I have multiple dresses size M and then I suddenly cannot fit in an L? Hearing you saying that you sized up from a XXS to an M gave me such a relief and validation. Thank you!!!!

People toss around the word “sustainable”, using so many different definitions. Idk what the websters definition is, but to me, an activity is sustainable when it can be sustained indefinitely. So, purchasing clothing with any non-recycled polyester content is not sustainable-eventually we would amass so much plastic waste that we wouldn’t have anywhere to put it. Purchasing a certain high amount of natural fiber clothing is also not sustainable-if you’re purchasing new cotton clothing faster than new cotton plants can grow to maturity to replace the cotton you’re buying, then eventually we’ll run out of cotton.

I hate it so much when everybody links “made in China” to bad quality like wdym? A ton of stuff is made in china and even luxury brands have their goods produced, you can even find high quality fake goods because they’re made by the same factory that produces the real one or the one next to it. Just goes in to show that nobody really informs themselves properly. You can find the highest quality products made in china but you need to be able to pay the price. Don’t expect to pay 1€ and want the best quality out there, and then blame it on the “made in china” tag.

My opinion is none of these brands are worth it. They don’t look special, they aren’t special, and they’re too expensive. You should not be against being more mindful with your money. None of these “it girl” brands are worth the money.

relisation par dresses are acc pretty big in my opinion?? i’m a size us 6/ medium and they’re size small fit better, we have a pop up in sydney and most of the customers sized down because the dresses had a larger cut !! but idk might just be me 😫

I think that trends are interesting, because the marketing overall by fast fashion brands are aimed at making EVERYONE want to participate in it. And as such people who don’t really like the trend, like it doesn’t fully resonate with them, will still participate and then when the industry moves onto the next trend all those pieces will end in landfill. However, if someone creates a piece that’s on trend but made it last and of good quality, I support it. For example burgundy is so on trend right now, so some people will be buying burgundy pieces for maybe the first time and then decide it’s not for them and re-sell it (because if it’s made well then someone else can buy it and keep it forever). And then also there will always be people who have always been wearing burgundy, and will always wear it. Ultimately as long as a piece is ethically made and made to last, it doesn’t matter to me if it’s trending right now because for some people it’ll be timeless or become one of their staples regardless. But all with a pinch of salt xx

Of the brands you listed I have only heard of reformation- I got a dress from them for my sisters wedding and it was NOT that great and it was linen so it was WRINKLY and horrible within the first hour of me having it on and it was literally one of the most expensive pieces of clothing I have purchased in my entire life!!!! And then I sold it on eBay 🤷🏽‍♀️

@beautifulveins

Reformation does NOT fit my body at all. It’s one of those brands where I’ve tried on multiple of their dresses in store, even thrifted one, and zero of them fit my bust and waist. However; Realisation, even though their fabric is thin, is beautifully cut and looks fantastic on me so I would go for them for dresses over Reformation.

To be honest, I feel like personal brand clothes should be approached in the same vein as youtube sponsorships: don't trust youtuber or influencer who takes money to promote it, check reviews of common people first and only then try it out. If you even find it actually worth it without advertisement.

I think it’s fine to participate in trends only if they happen to already fit with your personal style. If you aren’t completely certain of your style it’s best to pass on trends because it can lead to waste and moves you further from figuring out what you really like.

I personally think wanting to participate in trends is not unsustainable per say, it becomes unsustainable if you go out of your way to purchase a new product just to be part of the trend. Trends and micro-trends are temporary, a capsule in time like you said, and I don’t think someone who really cares about sustainability would search the entire web for a pink jumper with a bow ( even though it is made sustainably). In most cases they will try to replicate the vibes and aesthetic of that micro-trend with what they already have, that is if they like it and want . Just my opinion ✌🏼
@TheMissyXo
@TheMissyXo 8 месяцев назад
Great video! ❤ I definetely think the only truly sustainable way to participate in trends is to buy secondhand items, unless you are absolutely sure you will love the trend/item also when it is not trendy anymore. In that case it would ne more your own personal style regardless the fact that the style or item is currently trending. Hope this made sense 😂
@CarolineTucker
@CarolineTucker 8 месяцев назад
Totally get you and feel exactly how you feel! Second hand all the way but if I’m buying a trendier item new I’ll usually wait a bit until the trend passes to be able to tell if a really want it or not!
