I was reading a book entitled Buddha's Book of Mediation and came across the following quotes:
1. Your feelings and thoughts are like plants, garden and cultivate them accordingly.
2. When you care for the weeds they will flourish.
It lead me to reflect on the type of thoughts that I was giving the most attention too. To my surprise, my thought process was more negative than I realized. If we are not careful these negative thoughts, the weeds, will begin to consume our psyche because we are spending so much time tending to them. The scary thing is that we often become so comfortable with the weeds/the negative thoughts that we become fine with them. We let them consume us, we normalize them and we convince ourselves that they are a thing of beauty.
This is all fine and dandy until we wake up one day trying to figure out why we are unable to make any progress in our lives. We must begin to smother our negative thoughts and only cultivate those thoughts that are positive.
