Some truth. If he was 100% honest, he'd talk about the CPM. It's more like $4-$7 a view. He did say he won't talk about it... That's because he gets more than a 300k channel. Jesse from PVP and I forget the other big vlogger talked about in an interview.
I remember when I was a kid and my dad used to tell me to get my fat ass off the computer since it's a waste of time and then I went on to become a senior software developer at Microsoft making more money than he ever did by a factor of 10x. Now I have a 700,000+ subscriber RU-vid channel doing what I love and it's paying the bills. The only thing I would add to this video is that the more RU-vid comes saturated the more SEO drops and money earning potential does also drop along with it. The more people that do RU-vid the less money there will be to go around and the harder it will be for new people to be noticed. That being said though nobody should ever give up on their dreams and if they are legitimately passionate and want to do something they can succeed at it no matter what it is. Passion is the driving force behind success, it's not enough to just work hard. You need that passion!
I kinda disagree Barnacules. With every person that decides to create on RU-vid, there are 10 others who never do. RU-vid will keep getting bigger and the earning potential will keep getting bigger.
I'm 44, graduated with a film degree in 94. Never used it, and in my 30's started playing paintball. I invented a new way to film the sport, and today I have 25,000 subscribers, and 3,800,000 views on my channels... Just playing paintball. And I rarely make videos, but I have over 250 done so far. It is a TON of work, but I haven't paid to play paintball in the past year, EVERY game I've gotten to play for free because of my youtube "fame". It is a really fun second source of income!
You should keep posting videos man. Back in your days in the 90s, there wasnt crazy video software and the internet was still new. With all the info out there, you can do a lot.
This shit is hard man. To all of the creators who are stuck and not getting views, keep your heads up! It's not easy, especially when you are seeing no growth. But just keep creating and being yourself. You will find an audience, good luck!
Laark How? "just in case someone needed to hear it" isn't a bad thing, and I didn't reply to myself, or there would have been an @ and my username, it was just a 2nd comment addon that I wanted seperate from the first.
Army Strong Yeah, way too much negativity anymore, figured some positivity would be nice for a change. I know some people are going through a lot right now, like myself.
Hey bud just wanted to say thank you! This was the most straight up and honest video about the potential of being a RU-vid creator. I dealt with everything you mentioned involving negativity and no one believing in what you're trying to do. And because of that I gave up about a year ago and just started getting back into it again recently. I'm not looking back anymore I'm getting better and faster at editing everyday. I'm going to either make it or break it now, that's it. Peace!
Doing the math here, at this moment. You made 1,100$ telling other people how to make money from videos. That's really smart because, teaching people how to make money easily off youtube will gain a lot of views. See what I'm getting at? It's like selling a "Get Rich Quick" book. Then getting rich by selling the book. Very smart.
And it's only been one day. This video flew into my recommend list and I've watched nothing that would really put it there. By the end of the week this will probably be close to 3 mill and made him about $3k
+chris s exactly, I wonder if you tune has a pension plan or benefits. I'm all for RU-vid but how is our world going to survive if everyone just wants to be a youtuber.
The problem is EXPECTATION vs. EXECUTION. Most people come into this thinking they're owed something. The entrance fee is ZERO therefore you need to bust your butt to make something out of nothing. Successful YTers just make it look easy. Im having a blast with my new channel but man it's tons of work and WELL WORTH IT. It's my creative space and I think im on to something amazing. It's a combination of passion and execution that drives me. :)
Made my first video last night, kind of shitty because the video i made before didnt record (Which would have been a lot better, this one seemed forced because it totally was) He motivated me as well !
Brendon Just keep making videos. Overtime they will get better. I'm gonna start uploading everyday starting August. Getting practice everyday will probably help.
+Brendon Keep up the good work man! Look at me i'm 12 and in 1 year i got 150 subs , i know i could already be at 1,000 but nowadays we're competing with Hollywood and Big Stars, but that would'nt keep me from stopping, noone can stop you and if someone pulls you down, pull yourself up and be the best you could ever be

He left one thing out though. He only gets payed 70 cents - 2 dollars on every monetized view (Aka the viewers that get ads in the video) not everyone gets an ad when they watch the video.
Mirich Teny you realize that was factored in right? you definitly do NOT get 70 cents to $2 for every monetized view, you get that per 1k views... thats also why he said certain months are better, because theres more adds being produced (higher add budget = more monetized views because an add that might only play 10k times/day in one month, is playing 50k times per day a different month, so more adds to select from, so more monetized views)
You are one in a million. Making money on RU-vid is HARD AS HELL! I have one video that has 300,000 views but then all my others have like 500 views and I can't make a living off this site. It's great that you got lucky with your series but the majority of kids shouldn't focus on this site and should stay in school.
Naw, I'm good. I'm glad you believe in statistical improbabilities, but the majority of people can't make a living off of RU-vid and that's a fact. That's the reason why I do this for fun and have a job and go to school.
+NowAndBecauseTV no such thing as luck, only hard works in anything you want to do, so chase your dreams and never fucking quit that's how you succeed ain't no way around it💪💯
make a video about your boring life. other people with boring lives will watch to compare who's life is more boring. Ask people to comment about how boring their life is. people will watch the most unexpected things. Others will watch to either talk shit or because they don't believe the video is actually going to be about a boring life. Either way you're getting views.
1. I've been on the fence about your psycho kid series but impressed with your dedication 2. Props for posting a video like this 3. I still can't believe people don't realize the simple mechanics and math of making money on RU-vid 4. Yes! This is an amazing time to be alive. To be able to make a living on your own with a few simple tools and on your own terms is amazing. 5. I will continue to watch your channel.
I agree, it is a lot of workand dedication. On my channel (not this account) I would be recording for like an hour then editing out fails or boring stuff or speeding up the vid at a certain point, adding music to it, then haveing to wait an hur for it to render, and another 20 min for it to upload. Then you need to add a title and then a escription with links to sites you may have used, then adding tags to it so its easier to find.... its alot and can be overwhelming at a young age.(14)
+Keith Hopkin You said allot there. But on point #3 you have to remember that most of the audience are children who have to have this broken down to them
I’m trying to go full time, doing what is fun for me: mmos, rpgs, Puppet cringe comedy, mmo parody songs, graphic novels in video form, and having a blast, the snowball effect is real if you stay true to yourself. I’m still very small, about to hit 4k but that’s in 1 year of trying. Push guys! You can do it! Don’t give up!! Amazing times, great vid!
Very inspirational words, Jesse. My biggest dream of all is to be a RU-vidr and Director/Writer in film. I have so many ideas I wanna put into film and such. I actually plan to do some web series' on my channel soon, one of them being a series I wanna release next year in October. A Horror Anthology series that takes inspiration off of American Horror Story, the Silent Hill franchise, and more. The series is called Legion of Horrors, and I hope for it to do well because it's something I've been thinking about a lot, and how I want to do it, what I want the monster of the first season to look like and be capable of, and more. This video further influences me to pursue RU-vid and Film as careers. It's something I have a lot of confidence and passion about. Thank you so much for making this video. It clears up so many unanswered questions, and I believe everyone needs to see this video, and when they do, they'll further understand how it all works, and they'll too get inspired. :)
I've been wanting to do RU-vid since i was in 5th grade. I used to make videos and show my classmates but my teacher shut me down. I stopped doing videos and i just barely started making videos again. I just graduated highschool and im finally doing what i wanted to do. I don't know why it took me so long to return to RU-vid but im so happy i did. I decided to follow my dreams, yeah the money would be cool but for the time being i enjoy making the videos. Thanks for making me realize that this dream could become a reality. Having the job of entertaining others is what i want to do. Thanks Nuggets for making me realize that this dream is very very very possible. (:
do what u gotta do n youll make it happen i believe in u but if u ever need a laugh u should def check out my channel! I only make vids to bring people laughter n entertainment hope u enjoy! 1000!
You all don't realize that we can help each other to become millionaires. Everybody can subscribe to every channel and help everybody become millionaires.
Lol no. That would require almost infinite time which none of us have.... And then RU-vid surely would come out with a policy against thus making our time spent doing this useless. Good luck though!
you are so real and i love that. i started youtube 2007, deleted all my videos cos no one ever watched. if only i knew, to just hold on and keep doing it. i wish i had the knowledge and wisdom i do now. not giving up.
I made a couple montages in the past under the channel of F051, if you want to see :) created the montages for my personal stuff and ended creating an account (now forgotten lol)
I get quite a few videos 10+ mins with midrolls that do very well. Say 5K views - makes $20. (around $4 per) Yet out of those 5K, only like 2K are monetizable, so the CPMS are insane. ($10 per) Usually the range you mentioned is more accurate but it's applying to "Total Views" which may confuse viewers. If you get 5K views, chances are 50% aren't monetizable. (Mobile, other forms etc) Videos under 10 minutes get hit hard.. 5k may may $5-10.
Your an inspiration man, i just wanted you to know that, you probably won't read this, but if on the off chance you did your so down to earth, no bullshit just truth and passion, i work 40 hours a week as a baker i start work at 4am and leave work at 3pm most days but i still manage to spend 20 hours working and editing a video once a week, its such a strain and hard work but seeing videos like this keeps me going. keeps me motivated so Thanks man. :) keep up your passion.
Planet Chucky I personally knew someone who worked 80+ hours a week at a convenience store; he bought a motorcycle, a ranger rover (leased) and went on a trip to Dubai, all at the age of 19, before he sadly passed away from a motorbike accident. He was one of the hardest working people I ever met; whenever I meet/hear about hard working people, I always get a feeling of respect and acknowledgement for them
+Bape thats tragic man :( i hope your friend found some peace and happiness with his bike and his trip to dubai, because if he worked that hard, he dam deserved it, I only have my girlfriend and my subs supporting me, nobody understands why I do RU-vid and strain myself, iv not even earned $100 yet of 2 years of hard work, but i still do it, because I enjoy making people laugh and I enjoy making content :) thank you for your respect
this is so motivating, i do youtube for almost 2 years, since the last 2 months i have been uploading daily and livestreaming daily. I dedicate my life to it. 2 weeks ago i went viral with pokemon go and gained 8K subs. 400 views a video now but yeah i surely do see that it is possible. I will never stop. thank you so much for the advice. It reassures me of my career choice. I never comment about my channel but this is clearly imo a genuine comment for a video like this so delete it if you think it is self-ad but i mean it genuinely.
The problem is everything has been done on RU-vid by now. There's like a billion people trying to make it on RU-vid. So doing something no body has done is extremely difficult. Now years ago it was easier bc most were just watching, now all are trying to make it a job
You can say that about books, games, movies, etc. It's just about having enough vision and initiative to think about it. There's only 1 you and nobody else can exactly copy you.thats the beauty of YOUTube.
Unless you're planning to do vlogs, I can't see how it would be annoying. If you're pursuing gaming it's more about your personality. Or you could be those attention-seeking nonsensical prank channels. There's a lot of things you could do in your own way.
Finally a video that 💯 and STRAIGHT UP!!! THANKS MY BROTHA!! Just started my own page highlighting in a humorous way skateboarding, Skateboard sneakers, skaters ETC etc
I would love to see a educational, or tip series jessie. That would help a lot of us small youtube channels struggling to get the right info, because there is a lot of false info out there. and it is hard to figure out all the right things a youtuber should be doing and what we should do and so on.
THANK U for motivating me to keep making videos but I know that I won't grow at all because I can't do much to get equipment but thank u for motivating me even when my family don't want me to but I want to do what I want because of passion
Kids, a film degree is about as useless as an arts degree. Jesse hit the jackpot. He's a very talented guy but the % who walk out of school and make as much money as he did is like winning the lottery.
Thx this motivated me alot and my parent's don't believe in me but I'm never going to give up on RU-vid and also you should make a series on how Gamer RU-vidrs can make big money.
Broo do me a favor, please make more of these videos especially on this topic! See if you have the time man it'll be much appreciated if you take ur time off 2 make more vids like this and believe me im not the only one that thinks thay
Just found your channel and subscribed because of this video. One thing that my family keeps telling me is that I am doing great for a small RU-vidr but I need to make my videos shorter in length. If a video is only being watched for 5 minutes then I need to make the video between 5-10 minutes. Then I look at my content and I say to myself, how is that even possible? When your knee deep in a game and really enjoying it, but your viewer & watch time report says you need to slow down, I really don't know what to do. These days it's all about the watch time and subscriber count to re enable monetization again. It sucks because one day your gaining a lot of views then RU-vid comes along and says out loud the little guy sucks and we're going to promote professional youtubers instead. That's how I viewed the entire monetization changes and it's hard to imagine differently. Now imagine your playing Minecraft, Rising World or some other survival crafting game. You want your audience to be immersed in the detail but not so much so as to where they get bored and leave. How do you edit a video such as these or even Fallout 4 for that matter where the audience really wants to see what your next decision is. How would you shrink a 30+ minute video into something an audience will enjoy it and remain there long enough to leave a comment or even subscribe? These seem to be the biggest problem with gaming channels we don't know what to cut or where to cut let alone when to cut back in to make the video enjoyable. Do you have any tips for gaming channels?
I've wanted to do RU-vid as a career for the longest time - more than 5 years now. This was very inspirational. I'll keep on keeping on :) Thanks for the video :D
Stavros Gazis View botting some creators were caught for paying people to boost their view counters with hacking tools, it's not uncommon to see people why lie about business.
Thats using the 1$ figure. He is probably at like 1.20-1.45$ as off it is mid july, last month was hot so it is slowing down alittle so more like 800 off this video. Its crazy
That's great, he can say"I have a job where I make more than $100 in and hour!" That's good for him I feel good for him, jesse deserves it because he worked hard and good came outve it
Top 1000 youtubers make 100k+ salaries. Compared to 7 billion people on the planet, 1000 is not a lot...... You have to be extremely extremely EXTREMELY lucky to make it big on youtube.
Well, you only have to be lucky to make it big on RU-vid if you're successful QUICK. But, you can still be successful by making videos and growing slowly. My other channel is successful with viral videos and it took me about 2 years to get my first viral of 2 million views. But that's something completely different than my new channel non-gaming related.
Chthonian121 Another suggestion. Stop being so fearful to show your face on camera. If you're going to be in the RU-vid game, don't let your fear of looking stupid hold you back.....
It's true man i'm making x,000 a month living in the Philippines with my family own schedule... exactly we're not special at all regular people just like everyone Just start now and pick a niche "category" that you're good at or you love to pursue don't stand by and stare while the parade passes by.
Yes, anyone can DO IT...but not anyone can succeed at it. I have laid out what I think are some basic requirements to make it on YT and you'll see that not everyone can succeed ... + Things that will help you. - Things that will hurt you. + Be gorgeous (this is obvious, includes 5-10% of us) + Be interestingly ugly (people can relate, includes 10% of us) + Have a very new/unique idea/talent/have a viral video (Includes 10-15% of us) + Be famous to begin with (Actors/Singers/Kardashians...includes 1% of us) - Look like an average person (this cuts out probably 90% of us) - Have no special talent (cuts out 90% of us) - Don't have HD gear (cuts out at least 50% of us) - Do not have a lot of time to devote (likely cuts out 20-60% of us..but I will admit, this one is our own fault, and if we are devoted enough we would make time, but it still won't over come the cons above.) So yeah, while it's not impossible to succeed at YT, it's incredibly hard...and MOST successful YTers got into it before the big boom happened. You guys started before there was $$ to be made. Now, everyone wants to be a YTer. Any of us can upload a video...but most of us can't go anywhere with it. *I think that most people would agree with my pros/cons about it...and it's why most just don't bother*...but it is good to stay positive =)
maybe it would be good to add just being likable. Look at markiplier, he's attactive and just plain seems like a nice likeable guy. He doesn't really do anything impressive as far as editing or gameplay, he's just kind of a friendly guy to watch play interesting games.
Cat Yeah, but it seems like vlogs tend to get the most subs and viewer base. I don't know of many successful channels that don't have a face cam other than like ASAP science..
That doesn't mean you're gonna get attention. I just hit 600 subs which I'm happy for but it is so difficult to get noticed. 600 is nice and all but when I look at other people, I'm nothing.
Your videos are decent but if you want your channel to grow you should do something that people want to see, like what's popular right now (pokemon go for example). A lot of people talk about Pokemon Go so you have to do something special to stand out tho
Most coolest Real Video I've ever seen. I have Lots of Big RU-vid Friends they all make Shit Tons of Cash i.e Roman Atwood, Dennis Roady,Crazy Russian Hacker (Tarus,) Tom Mabe , Scary Snow Man ,Furious Pete and more ... this is By Far May Favorite Video Ever! well stated !
I would like to see a step by step process of how to begin your channel (i.e. choosing a name, brainstorming ideas, programs used, finding people to help, etc.) and how to nurture it as it grows. This was a very good informative video.
It's called creativity, and come up with an idea, there's now "step by step" u sound like the smart character that gets so lost in steps to learn, that u fail to think to come up with ure own.
Yeah, overall there isn't really a 'Step By Step' way. You just do. And some people aren't just made for RU-vid. A channel name shouldn't take too long. You should go to channel name generators. Find something you like (could take hours) and then change it a bit. I got 'TyAheadFilms', and that became TyFilms. It took me about 30 mins to find the name generated. And then just find the content you can do. A lot of people mix talents with hobbies and passions. If you're good at quickscoping, do a channel of montages and commentaries. If you're good at tech stuff and you can explain things, do tutorials on that stuff. Maybe you're good at presenting and DIY's. There are so many things to do a channel on. Then you need a good profile pic and banner. I have made 3 profile pictures and 4-6 banners until I finally settled. A good picture and banner can make the difference between a user and a creator. Then you need consistent uploads. At least one every 2 weeks, but even that's inconsistent. You need to customize your layout. Make a channel trailer, change what subscribers can see and make playlists. Playlists are key, because they organize your content and get more views because your channel can be navigated easily. This is a long comment so I'm going to end it here, but a big thing that will gain you subs and views are collabs. find someone with around the same content and subs as you. And lastly, waiting. It'll take a while to get noticed. I'm still waiting, and I'm saving up to buy a new mic.
Thank you so much for making this video! I've been looking for a video just like this. You are giving me so many great ideas about my RU-vid channel. I've had this RU-vid channel for a good year or two. And I decided to actually try RU-vid AGAIN. Now I want to make more videos! Thank you again, much appreciated!
