The TRUTH Behind NBA Knee Injuries & How To Help Prevent Them

This video was inspired by the By Any Means Basketball channel. When we talk about injuries in the NBA, we say it's bad luck most of the time or maybe some players are physically built better. However, I believe that there is another reason why some NBA players are more likely to suffer knee injuries than others, and I talk about it in this video. Enjoy!
I make all kinds of NBA videos which include trivia, analysis, player stories, countdowns, conspiracies, and mysteries. Make sure to leave a like and subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

@Andy Hoops, this theory makes since to me, I'm 6'4", I'm now 40 years of age and played basketball my whole life. I have developed knee problems and couldn't figure out why. I do run on my heels and I'm convinced that's how my issue came to be. Now I know how to guide my son. Thanks a lot bro

I'm not a pro athlete but have played a lot of rugby, basketball and sprinting over ten years at a good league. Worst I've had is a sprained ankle which lasted around a week and a sore ankle from someone standing on my ankle with all their body weight. I land awkwardly a lot, I'm completely wreckless and think I'm invincible but run on my toes. Gotta run on the toes

This is 5 years old but I would hope by now you know it's actually because he's on HGH. He recovered from a 4-6 month injury in 1 month this year at age 38. Running has NOTHING to do with this kind of advanced recovery time. Only HGH with peptides can do that

Westbrook also falls over with a lot of grace and skill, players who try and fight falling over make really bad decisions. The art of falling needs to be taught to these players it spreads all the energy over a long slow amount of time rather than focusing it all on a knee or leg very quickly which is much harder to manage. I learned this in BMX where you constantly fall over you have to spread the energy as much as you can and over as long a period of time as you can that way it dissipates slowly and is much more predictable.
@forza8719
@forza8719 Год назад
I think that’s why Wade used to fall all the time. Take off pressure when landing gracefully.

I remember reading an article about how rose injuried his ankle in hs and he never let it heal properly so thats probably why his landing mechanics are so bad because his ankles couldn't absorb some impact so it went straight to his knees

Porzingus recent knee injury was preventable, he could have just gone floppy and to the ground rather than try and land on that knee really bad decision he made, big guys have to be way more careful with this, longer limbs mean more torque / leverage for injury.

First of all you can't jump off your heels . The toes will always be the last part touching the ground before the take off.Watch how athlete like Usain bolt run they only use their forefoot. obviously if you wanna jump high you will need a heel-toe movement but it will always be the last step

Rose had similar athleticism to lebron and westbrook. All those guys were incredibly explosive the difference is lebron and westbrook basically attack in straight lines, more or less. Rose attacked the hoop extremely hurky jerky and at weird angles flailing all his limbs about. No wonder he got hurt. I've never seen a player as both explosive and hurky-jerky as rose, not once in the history of the nba.

One of the most important videos of all time for any hooper up and coming especially, but also for us old school guys. THANK YOU. I remember being at science exhibit that weighs how much force you come down with. This lady was amazed at how little force I was coming down with in comparison to how high the jumpsor falls and it's because I was landing on my toes, almost lik a cat with control. I also think if you come down in a rhythm it helps disperses the force. Both Westbrook and Jordan have the grace of ballerina's. Jordan didn't have knee issue even with all that dunking until he was a Washington Wizard which by that time was a wear and tear thing.

Tore my acl just had surgery and really keen to learn running and also jumping and landing and general sports movement on whats best to do and minimise a risk of another tear. Thing like not landing on extension or on your toes as opposed to heels etc. All little things i need to relearn subconsciously to ensure i never land on an extended leg again from a jump (intercepted a pass via an extended jump. Was real loose and casual and landed too extended i reckon)

Been a pro basketball player overseas for 10 years and the past couple years I been ravaged by knee injuries, I am a big heel-to-toe runner and add in that I was a big track and cross country runner in my early years. And this would explain why my knees wore down so quickly. I wonder how hard it is to train your body to land on your forefoot instead of your heels?

Both feet aren't necessary, but landing and putting more weight on your forefoot instead of the heel is better. When I used to play in hs, I've had a lot of knee soreness because of my habit of running on my heels.

Andy Hoops Wow. I always run on the front of my foot but in cross country they taught me to land on the heel and roll your foot forward. I never felt comfortable with doing that though. I still ran on the front of my feet. I guess they need to update their research.

What if you’re flatfoot? I think that always causes problems in the long run.

Dennis Smith also playing with number 1 lmao D Rose, Penny Hardaway, McGrady, all experienced knee injuries and they played with number 1. This rookie is crazy good, like a young D Rose, cause he's not just explosive like Russel but he's agile too. But he's fucked if he keeps going like this

with running on your forefoot couldn't there be shin injuries that occur from the pressure being applied?
@simonlocke7837
@simonlocke7837 6 лет назад
Kyle StormCloud ... no , the force is applied to the calf area when landing and running on the forefoot . Landing on the heel causes shin splints as the tibialis anterior is worked very hard to slow down the forefoot towards the ground ... and this muscle is attached to the shin bone and it's what causes shin splints .
@ArDeeNY1
@ArDeeNY1 6 лет назад
That’s why you have calf muscles. They absorb the impact

I thought you suppose to run with your heel? And Land with your four foot , what is dorsiflexion? Is that the same as running or jumping with your heel?
@joecoolin24
@joecoolin24 6 лет назад
Junior Cancel Your heel is more for balancing and break. Your midfoot is more for jump and running. Problem is that today athletes don't have proper body mechanics and not learning techniques to run and jump.
@simonlocke7837
@simonlocke7837 6 лет назад
Junior Cancel ... sprinters run off the forefoot ... longer distance runners tend to run on the midfoot . But you can run long distances on your forefoot ... but practise is needed . Dorsiflexion is pulling your foot towards your calf . Pushing it down is called plantarflexion .
